Three beep startup error even with new RAM.

I have a three beep error at start-up on my Mini.  I reseated my original RAM with no improvement.  I replaced the RAM with OWC and still have the three beep error.  Is the video RAM or the memory controller bad?

I ran for years with the stock 4GB, 2x2GB, in the Mini.  Recently, occasionally at start-up I would get a flicker but would boot fine.  I was using it and it went dead, black screen.  I got the three beeps when I went to restart.
I imagine replacing the RAM slots themselves involves major surgery since they're probably soldered in.  Maybe would clearing the connectors on the slot help?

  • Constant Kernel Panics.. even with new RAM?

So I was at the genius bar yesterday and they told me they were going to run a huge diagnostic test on my late 2008 Macbook Pro. They assumed it was the RAM and gave me good info on where to order it from. I ordered 8gb RAM because I figured, why not upgrade?
They called me today, said it was the RAM malfunctioning. I go back to the store, they put in the new RAM.. I come home and everything is GREAT. woohoo! and then... a few hours later, it started again. I mean really?
I just added 8gb new RAM and am still having kernel panics. what is going on?
It's so random. and It doesn't make much sense.
    Any advice, anyone?

  • Playing around with cfschedule, getting a time limit error - even with requesttimeout

    Hello, everyone.
This isn't critical, I'm just playing around with the cfschedule tag.  But it's still annoying to get a time limit error, even with the requesttimeout attribute set to 10800.
    <cfschedule action="run" task="Collection_Daily_I" requesttimeout="10800">
Less than one minute after loading the page, I get:
The request has exceeded the allowable time limit Tag: cfhttp
    ^_^

I tried something else here. I noticed that on the last circuit you posted you had a resistor tied from ground to the clock line in addition to the one tied back to VCC. This would be R4 in the origianl schematic. I also noticed that in this circuit I saw no double tripping of the clock signal but it did have a sloping rising edge. I am assuming this is what you are refering to as being dirty. Not a clean square wave by any means.
I removed this extra resistor from the clock line and re-added the inverter and this seemed to clean up this slope. I do, not know what  purpose you may have had for this resistor but I believe that to be causing the sloping edge. I was incorrect about the inverter. I just know that in the original configuration I didin't get the double clocking when it was removed, but I failed to notice the sloping of the edge of the signal. Now with this new information I hope this will get it the way you want it.
I will repost the circuit with my modifications. Let me know what you think. Just so you will know I am using asll default settings with the exception of the digital setting which is set to REAL.

  • Problems with new RAM

I bought new ram for my macbook Unibody (7.1) to update from 2gb (2x1Gb) to 4gb (2x2Gb). I replaced the old ram to the new ones, but when I turn the computer on it produces five beeps and continues doing that until I turn it off. But when I put one 1gb old ram in one slot and in the other slot a 2gb new ram it works perfectly and it says that I have 3gb (that means that the computer also recognized the new ram).
The new ram came from a mac mini, and they are 1333mhrz while the old ones are 1066mhrz, but I heard that when the ram admits more speed than the slot speed they can be used with te speed from the computer (if my macbook has 1066mhrz slots, then, the 1333mhrz ram will work at 1066).
    Can you help me?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're users here and do not speak for "Apple Inc."
Macs are notoriously 'picky' about RAM memory timing!
Although what you suggest about RAM timing might work in SOME computers, your Mac obviously does not work with the 'faster' RAM inserted in both memory slots, hence the black screen and 5 beeps.
Indeed, some sellers label faster RAM with a slower spec, and indeed some computers don't have a problem with that, but it is not true in this case.
    You have several options:
    1. Go back to the original 2x1GB RAM modules.
    2. Use one of the 2GB with an original 1GB module for a 3GB configuration. It's still a 50% increase in available RAM for your system from 2GB. If you start getting frequent Kernel Panics, that is an indication that the faster 2GB RAM just won't work in your system.
    3. Purchase two of the correct RAM modules with the proper specs. Your Unibody can hold 8GB or even 16GB if you're running OS X 10.7 or newer: http://blog.macsales.com/16302-some-2010-mac-owners-can-get-more-ram-than-they-t hought

  • CP3525n no Ethernet function even with new Formatter Board.

Hello. I have an HP CP3525n. There is no LED light or response whatsoever when I connect to the ethernet port of the printer. The original formatter board is CE859-60001.
I ordered a new one from HP, CE859-60002, however I am assuming it should be fully compatible even the chips on it have the same model. Still there are no lights coming on from the Ethernet port, after using different cables that work fine on my PC.
I updated the firmware to latest version (via USB cable). I printed out the entire menu tree for the printer and I don't see any settings that is related to networking (usually have to access to them over the network).
I do not have an EIO card, but I'm assuming it shouldn't be required (?). There is a small panel in the back of the printer that I can open to peak inside the printer to see the internal board, nothing look damaged, but perhaps its something inside there that is damaged that caused the Ethernet to no longer work even with a new formatter board?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I fixed the issue, it was very easy. Just had to hold the "Check" button while the printer is turning on and wait for three LED to flash, then enabled Embedded LAN.
Now I am having a problem with an HP 4250. It have a board that do not have ethernet. I swapped it with another board that does, on the first boot I can see the Embedded JetDirect menu. But it was on static IP so I switched it to DHCP, then turned it off and on. The next time it turned on, the Embedded JetDirect menu disappeared. Even accessing the secret menu when the printer started, there is no option to turn on LAN. This is even the Ethernet port light is on.
I updated the HP 4250 to the latest firmware from here and it doesn help. I have a feeling this firmware doesn't have network function maybe?

  • What causes Media not present error, even with disc inserted

I have a 2 hr  video project that I would like to place on a DVD in NTSC format.  I get an error msg "Media not present" even with DVD inserted in burner.  I have checked "Fit content to available space".  Is the 2 hr project too long to compress onto the DVD, or are there other possible causes?  I did a 1 1/2 hr project with no problems.  I have plenty of hard drive space.

    download orders
What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system is it running?
The problem is the disc in the burner tray not being recognized by Premiere Elements. Another frequent related issue is Burner Location: in burn dialog being empty when the Premiere Elements does not recognize the burner.
In the problem that you have,
    a. Have you tried other brands/types of DVD discs?
    b. If you start a new project and take the new Timeline content to DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, does the problem remain the same?
    B. Have you tried program uninstall/free ccleaner run through/reinstall with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
If you are in a time crunch, you should consider burning the Timeline content to folder and then taking the VIDEO_TS Folder from that
saved folder into a program like ImgBurn for the DVD-VIDEO on DVD production.
Please review and consider and then we will supply you with how to details. Looking forward to your results.
    Thank you.

  • Disk Utility error -9972 with new external hard disks

My Powerbook 15" (1.67MHz, 1.5 GB RAM, 100GB drive) is partitioned into two volumes:
    - OS-X 10.3.9
    - OS-X 10.4.3
Each volume has its own Disk Utility:
    - Disk Utility 10.4.4 v.145.7 (part of OS-X 10.3.9)
    - Disk Utility 10.5.3 v.198.5 (part of OS-X 10.4.3)
In order to make backups I use an external hard disk enclosure:
    - Macally PHR-100AC, firewire + USB2
Recently I bought two new 250 GB hard disks and built one of them into the external enclosure (jumper setting to master) and connected it with firewire and formatted the drive as Extended Journaled. After that I made Verify Disk and got bad error messages and could not repair the disk.
    Funny thing (reproduceable):
Using Disk Utility in OS-X 10.3.9 and formatting as Extended without Journaled: NO errors
Using Disk Utility in OS-X 10.3.9 and formatting as Extended Journaled: volume bitmap errors
Using Disk Utility in OS-X 10.4.3 and formatting as Extended without Journaled: bad errors
Using Disk Utility in OS-X 10.4.3 and formatting as Extended Journaled: bad errors
Using Disk Utility in OS-X 10.4.3 and formatting as Extended without Journaled and verifying using OS-X 10.3.9: bad errors
    Bad error messages:
    - incorrect key length
    - the underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)
    - stopped repairing ... volume could not be repaired
    I tried:
    - to build the second new hard disk into the enclosure: same errors
    - to install new firmware 4.73 into enclosure (compatible to 10.3.9): same errors
    - zeroing out all data: same errors
    - to use Techtool Pro 4.0.6 (compatible to 10.4): same errors
    - to restart the mac using both partitions: different errors as described above
    - to disconnect, shut down, restart the external enclosure: same errors
    - to use another firewire cable: same errors
    - to format the external disk again and again: same errors
    - to find any discussion or knowledge base or faq: nothing
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    ibond

Your post on -9972 was very helpful. Thank you.
In the meantime I bought another enclosure (Macally PHC-500BC) and installed the same firmware 4.73 and tried to use it.
Surprise, surprise! Everything is ok with no errors. All my hard disks are working perfectly.
I suppose my 100AC is a faulty enclosure and needs replacement.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Satellite L30 10Y doesn't boot with new RAM modules

    Hi,
just regged with this forum as I am having a memory upgrade problem.
I have read through a few of the memory problems on here and all users say its a comaptible memory issue. I had Hynix 512MB RAM in my laptop and I purchased 2 x 1GB of Hynix memory both of these are matching sticks to the installed memory but when I installed them my laptop wouldnt boot at all. It would only boot if I had one stick in at a time.
I tried switching top and btm ports and even when one stick was installed it says in XP, Vista and Windows 7 (yes I have tried all systems) 896MB available. I even tried using my other Hynix stick but it only booted and showed the highest stick of 1GB (896MB usable in Windows 7). After reading all the threads I'm just wondering if this is a hardware fault or is there a fix in the Toshiba world or perhaps in the Toshiba world the L series is nearly obselete and not worth the bother to help out the people who unwittingly bought thier merchandise.
I apologise for being a bit down on Toshiba but a laptop which states what it can run and doesnt a company should hold its hand up and say yes there is a fault and help deal with the problem.

You are seeing 896MB because the rest is reserved for the Graphics Card VRAM.
Sometimes RAM can simply be not compatible, due to timing incompatibilities or RAM chip/controller design differences.

  • Power Mac G5 Refuses to start with new RAM!

I have a Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8GHz June 2004. I know I read somewhere online that it takes 1GB sticks of RAM, and that it has to be dual channel. I went to Best Buy today and got myself 2 sticks of 1GB DDR PC3200 "Compatible with 400/333/266MHz" Dimms, and installed them in pairs. When I start them with or without my old memory, my mac starts up, makes no noises, but the fromt white LED light blinks 2 times, and does this repeadedly until I shutdown and install the old 512MB sticks. I need to get this new RAM to work in here, I just paid $112 total for 2 sticks, and I am not ready to go back to the store yet. Is there something I am missing here? Something I am not doing right?

Not all RAM is created equal and seldom does over the counter PC RAM work in a G5.
Buy and install ONLY guaranteed Mac compatible RAM.

  • Windows has stopped working error message with new iPad2

Can some one please help me. I have the latest iTunes software 10.4 which has been working fine up to today when i tried to get my iPad2 up and running. I have also updated my iPad to the latest software as well. When syncing either books or photos, the program will work for some time anywhere between 50 & 150 books or 300 & 450 photos and then I get the error message that iTunes has stopped working and windows has shut it down. I am running win7 64bit with 6gig RAM on a HP DV7 laptop.

How much storage space do you have available on your iPad 2? if could by running out of space.  Also try restarting your iPad 2 by holding down the on/off and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo.

  • IMac G5 17" won't boot with new RAM

I tried to install 2 GB RAM into an iMac G5 17" - the computer won't boot at all. The sticks are fine (DDR PC3200 - tried them in a different computer), I reset the PRAM, all to no avail. With the original 256 MB stick, it boots fine, but with the new sticks in either slot or together, all I get is a black screen, no tone, and the fan goes on high. The firmware is up to date. What next?

I have a similar issue with my i5 since installing an additional 4GB (2x2GB) RAM from OWC. It runs fine normally, but if I ever need to reboot the iMac, it usually hangs at a black screen and never chimes. I have to pull the RAM, reset them and then it'll boot. I wonder if there is some timing tolerance problem with mixing RAM (with Apple's Samsung pair).
This morning (after installing 10.6.6) it wouldn't come out of sleep and I had to pull the RAM again. That's actually the first time it wouldn't come out of sleep.

  • 6 GB ram and hard-freezes & blue-screen. even with new drive

I'm on Vista 64 SP and have the X-Fi Platinum. Just upgraded to 6 GB ram from being on 2 GB previously, and now I consistently get hard freezes and blue-screens any time I attempt to do anything half-way audio intensive (try play a game or listen to some music in winamp). I'm on the latest march drivers from creative. Even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the creative drivers all together. Still no luck.
I know that it's the X-Fi causing it too because if I disable the card in the device manager and use my usb headphones instead i get *no* lockups or blue screens whatsoever. As soon as i reenable the card i get lockups again.
Does anyone have any suggestions or is this still a case of poor 64-bit code from creative

i'm pretty sure its not the ram. i ran ram tests, and close to maxed out my physical ram usage by loading large applications, and have spent many hours now using the ram with the x-fi disabled with no problems.
looks like someone else is having the same problem with the new drivers. see my reply to their thread:
