Three bios beeps from new macbook...

New to macs ... Just bought 2 new macbooks. One is working as it should. The other produces 2 beeps - then three beeps, three beeps, three beeps, three beeps ... till i turn it off.
My PC experience tells me that there is a memory problem (not seated properly) or other malfunction requiring attention.
I am hopingthis can be resolved without returning the unit... but need some advice from those with more experience with this error to help figure out how to resolve this...
Thanks - Wayne

Hi,
You're right. Three beeps is an indication that no memory is being detected. Two beeps means incompatible memory - but that is probably a spurious result due to no memory being detected.
If your vendor did a memory upgrade for you, the vendor may not have pressed the SODIMMs firmly into the sockets. It is a fairly common mistake on MacBook memory upgrades; the RAM sockets are a very tight fit. In fact, a lubricant is applied to the SODIMM's pins, and you may see a white lubricant residue on factory-installed MacBook memory when you remove the SODIMMs.
Check the MacBook's user guide and follow the steps for memory upgrade to verify the SODIMMs are properly installed. Upgrading memory is discussed on page 33: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/MacBookEarly2008UserGuide.pdf .

  • Video/Audio from new macbook to HD TV?

So, I'm wondering how i can connect the new MacBook to my HD TV which supports HDMI. Can i connect a mini DisplayPort/HDMI adapter and get both video and audio into my TV?
I haven't seen any adapters of that kind in Apple Store.
Is there perhaps another way to archive this?

Barring some other adapter being released, either by Apple or a third party, you'd get the Mini Display Port to DVI adapter and then use a DVI to HDMI adapter/cable. You'll also need to connect the audio to the TV separately, so check to make sure your TV will allow audio from a different input when using the HDMI input for video; not all do.

  • Can't back up to old Time Machine from new Macbook Pro.

TM wants to copy everything to external HD, not just back up the changes as per how i did it on my older 2007 Macbook. The external 320GB HD has only 13GB left and is trying to send all 300GB from new machine to it, not just any changes i've made in last few days since getting the new Macbook Pro.

As r8er says, Time Machine will do a full back-up of the new Mac -- you cannot prevent it.
Also, that's much too small a drive.  See #1 in

  • Moving music from new Macbook to iPhone4

I recently bought a new Macbook, which replaced an old PC laptop. I also have an iPhone4 which I prefer to hold most of my music.
I moved all my music libraries from my old laptop to my new Macbook and all my songs appear in my new iTunes, with checks next to each song
    indicating they are available.
Last night I wanted to update the music on my iPhone and went to sync my music. I chose to sync certain songs only and checked the artists I wanted moved to my phone. It proceeded to leave off roughly 1,600 songs and erase the contents of my iPhone music, including playlists and ringtones. All of my songs appear in iTunes, so I don't mind remaking playlists but now my phone has almost no music.
I have authorized the iTunes on my new Macbook, so I can't figure out why it wouldn't just update the music.
I have read through a bunch of other threads but they don't seem to indicate a step I may have missed.

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7 A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others as well, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

  • Editing iWeb sites from new MacBook

I just bought a new MacBook, and how do I transfer all my photo galleries under two site created in iWeb on my old PowerBook to my new MacBook? Is there a way to edit sites that I haven't created on iWeb on my MacBook that are hosted on my .Mac account that I published from iWeb on my old PowerBook? I still have the PB and I would prefer not having to go back to it to put new galleries under the old sites.
    Thanks for your help

You'll have to copy your domain file over to the new computer.
Open a Finder window. By default, the Finder opens a new window showing your local user area. Starting at this window, the iWeb Domain file is located inside the Library folder, inside the Application Support folder and inside the iWeb folder. It's called Domain.sites.
Copy this to the same location on the new computer and when you open iWeb, it should see and use it.

  • Transferring photos from new Macbook Pro to older laptop

My new MacBook Pro has Thunderbolt and 800 Firewire and I need to back up 26 GB of photos to an older laptop MacBook with Firewire 400.  I dont want to do it over the network which is too slow for this much info.  Any suggestions?

I do this kind of thing quite a bit, and it all depends on what kind of storage options that are available.
    1. I have several pen drives, a few 16gb in storage, that I use to transfer data from one computer to another. If you have 26gb of music, the transfer should't be too long.
    2. I also own a few Seagate portable drives, which are great for transferring data. It's also fairly fast. I use a USB to USB2 cable to do the transfer; my cable came with the drive.
One easy way to figure out which cable you need would be to visit your Apple Store; they should be able to tell which cable to purchase.

  • Purchased music not syncing from new macbook

So I had a powerbook g4, and recently purchased a new macbook, and firewired my PB to the macbook, and all data, apps, etc came off without a hitch. What I did notice however, is that all the music in my itunes that is purchased will no longer sync to my ipod classic. I've updated the ipod and itunes software. I can listen to and play the purchased songs on my macbook, but won't sync to ipod.
If I hook the ipod up to powerbook, the songs load right away, but I want to use my new macbook for managing all my music.
I've repaired permissions on my macbook 2x, but nothing works.

  • No video mirroring AppleTV ver 2 or 3 from new Macbook Air (very latest)

I have both a 2nd gen and 3rd gen apple TV and a brand new Macbook Air with Mountain Lion plus all updates installed on all devices. I can see both Apple TVs in myAirplay menu and can select either one. In both cases the sound works but the TV video goes blank and then later returns to the screensaver while the sound continues to stream. I have tried every possible resolution setting and nothing seems to work. The Apple TVs have hardwired ethernet and the Macbook Air is using wireless through my Airport Extreme (less than six months old).
Any ideas on what the problem is or how to resolve?

I'm in a similar boat to you, wondering whether I should replace my 2006 MBP 2.4 C2D 4Gb/160Gb with the top spec 13" MBA, or wait unti the next MBP refresh at the end of the year / begining of 2012.
FWIW, I think for your needs a MBA would probably do the job quite admirably... it should be able to handle rippng and Handbrake with no problems (faster than your current set up, but not as fast as a MBP).
I guess the real test is how well it can handle HD editing. I'm sure it will be fine for the occasional use, but then again a MBP would be better.
Personally though, I think you'd probably get more use and life out of a MBP. Mine is still going strong and it is more than adequate for my daily uses, but it's time for a change anyway.

Need to authorise new macbook pro

Use the Deauthorize All command documented in this article, or if it isn't an option, the 'contact iTunes Store support' link at the bottom of it.

  • Photosmart c4280 prints gibberish from new Macbook Air using OS X10.9

I can't seem to get this to print.  It will print page after page of a single line of gibberish for a simple print request.  The machine is a new macbook air with 10.9.4  Wife's IMac w/10.6  prints wirelessly with no problem.  As does my son's windows 7 powered PC.  So I'm not sure where to turn.  I've already done a reload of the driver with the same results.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, plugging the printer directly to the computer worked!  Not ideal, but it is workable.  Not sure why that is the case because the computer has no problems connecting to the internet via the router.  I guess it's all over my head!

  • Clicks and Beeps from my macbook AIr...

*I just got my macbook air in december it is a 1st gen i got it on clearance at best buy for 1039.00 it was new in box..i have been using it and it is working fine. my only issue or what i cant tell why it does this is it makes these click noises is that normal ??? and it also makes this litttle beep noise randomly. i don't know if it is normal or something i should be worried about i have taken it to the apple store and asked them what it was they said it was normal but then again they didnt hear the noises ..please if some one has some info it would be great thanks

I think the problems you had may have been unrelated or just random symptoms of one big problem. When a modern Mac laptop shuts off on its own, as yours did, that's heat. Either the Mac is perceiving it's too hot, or it really is to it. An overheating Mac can cause all kinds of crazy problems.
Most people I've noticed w/ clicking and beeping Airs have isolated it to the HDD, and they are having no problems with their Airs, or problems that can be directly related to the HDD.
Frankly, I have no idea what's up. It may be nothing or at least relatively trivial. I just did some checking and discovered the sudden motion sensors in Macs often make a clicking noise when they activate or deactivate. Probably the hard drive locking down or releasing. And sometimes the sensors lock the drives when there's no need, out of extra sensitivity. Factor in, I'm guessing, when my Air automatically spins down the HDD in a period of disuse, it probably locks the heads, too, with the same mechanism the sudden motion sensor triggers. So I hear the click sometimes when the HDD spins down or spins up, when the lock releases it. If I set the HDD to never spin down no matter what, I never hear the click.
The beep, I don't know. Laptop drives can make some weird noises when they spin up or down. Some of those noises are indistinguishable from a beep. Whether or not these noises indicate a defective or failing hard drive, that's up in the, well, air.

  • Airplay Desktop from new macbook doesn't play audio

Airplay video is working fastastically from my new 13" macbook pro, but it's not playing any audio. My iPhones and iPads don't have this problem, plays videso and audio to my appleTV and audio system without problems - but I can't get any audio to get there from the my laptop. Any thoughts?
I have tried to go into the audio output system prefs where it gives me an "apple TV" option, but when I click on it nothing happens.

    Hey everyone,
I have a new 2011 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard (10.6.7) and an iMac G4 running Panther (10.3.9).
The iMac doesn't have an AirPort card and the easiest way to get internet on it seems to be Internet Sharing.
I want to setup Internet Sharing from the MBP's Airport via ethernet to the iMac's ethernet, but am having trouble configuring the IP addresses etc to get the iMac to comply.
Your help and advice is much appreciated
