Three monitors with Mountain Lion
Under Snow Leopard I had two monitors connected to my iMac and all three screens worked just fine.
Then I installed Mountain Lion. The Imac can only find one of my two other monitors.
What can I do to access the other monitor as well?
Thank you for replying BDAqua.
If I make the right or left monitor my main monitor the the files drag to the approprate place. When I switch it back to the center montior being the main monitor then the issue comes up again.
Could there be an issue with which monitor is connected to which port?
It's just weird.
What else can I try?
Shawn.

Multiple Monitors with Mountain Lion
"Detect Displays" doesn't work with Mountain Lion so I am unable to use multiple monitors without jumping through a million hoops. Anyone else have this problem? I think Apple needs to FIX THIS!
There is a third party menu bar application that seems to restore most of the functionality that used to be available under the Display icon in the menu bar.
Also, you can still switch between mirror/extended desktop by hitting Cmd-F1.
If, somehow, your mac fails to automatically detect a connected display, though, I don't know any equivalent to the old "Detect Displays". It usually does detect them automatically, and in the very few occasions it hasn't, disconnecting and reconnecting the cable has worked for me.
All in all, not ideal, and I wished they had kept the functionality; but all is not (completely) lost.
Save As... is back, so here's hoping that "Show displays in the menu bar" will return as well. -
Best rgb and gamma settings for external monitor with mountain lion
Hi,
I'm using an LG LED 22 inch monitor with my MBP mid 2010 via minidisplay to hdmi. on OS X side the settings have been default. On the LED side the settings , if set to preset RGB it tends to fade the whites a lot. when i set to user definied and let the preset rgb be at it is, the colors are quote decent. currently they are on R 50, G 58 and B 59 and Gamma 1. Which is the best RGB and Gamma value for OS X Mountain Lion?Welcome to the forum.
First off, you need to go and buy a hardware monitor calibrator, such as an OptixXR or similar. This will build a custom monitor profile for your specific screen. Without this starting point you can forget ANY attempt at accurate colour matching.
Never (and I mean never) use a working space such as sRGB or Adobe98 as your monitor profile, that's not what they are designed for. Working spaces control what colours are possible in the image, monitor profiles control how those colours are shown on screen. Aperture uses it's own working space so you don't have to worry about that too much.
To answer the rest far too briefly, I'd suggest setting the proofing profile to sRGB and of course use sRGB for the export preset. The gamma setting you will have to adjust depending on how dark the Lightjet prints look compared to your screen. You will have to do test-strips to start with.
Your images looking crap on flickr on Windows machines is partly because Windows web browsers generally do NO colour correction, and only partly to do with the different gamma.

Three crashes with Mountain Lion
Hey!
(I apologize for my english, sorry!).
I've just installed Mountain Lion from scratch on my MBP (2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - 4 Go 1067 MHz DDR3 - build 12E55). I used Migration Assistant from a Time Capsule to recover my files and data and now my MBP is crashing now in several different ways:
1) Mail after 30'
2) Calendar when I want add a new calendar
3) System preference when I click "Mail, contact and calendar"
I didn't find the solution on the web. I've tried many things to fix with Onyx, "utilitaire disque" (réparer les permissions du disque) and so on... but nothing works effectively!
Here, the crashes reports :

Displaying the number of files in a folder with Mountain Lion?
I recently purchased a new iMac with Mountain Lion and I pretty much hate it. I have been a fan of just about EVERY update, so I am not resistant to change. I just think this is an inferior product. It is slow, clunky, and the update alerts remind me of everything that I hated about PCs. Meh.
Anyway, one of the main problems I have with it is that in previous versions, when I opened a folder, there was a little bit of information at the bottom of the folder that told me how many files were in that folder. As a photographer, I use this information ALL THE TIME. I realize I can click on the folder and "get info" to see how many files are in it...but this is extremely inefficient (especially considering how slow the brand new system is -- in spite of the 3.4 Hz processor and 16GB of RAM).
I can't seem to find anything in the preferences that allows me to change this. If there is a way, I would greatly appreciate it if someone would tell me how! Thank you!Active Memory: 1.88 GB

HELP... Since last week, I can not awake from sleep. After reading a review I downloaded Deep Sleep, but after the first deep sleep, my MBP (late 2011 with Mountain Lion), developed a problem restarting from sleep. I straight away uninstalled Deep Sleep, but the problem has increased.
Now when I try to awake from sleep, a grey screen with the apple logo appears with a progress bar underneath it, which slowly moves to the forelast indicator, then it stops and a audio signal starts. Three bleeps and pause.
Then when I press the on/off botton and restart the system, the underneath error reports appears with the heading RAPPORTD unexpectedly failed.
Can any one help?

The subject of buying/selling a Mac is quite complicated. Here is a guide to the steps involved. It is from the Seller's point of view, but easily read the other way too:
SELLING A MAC A
Internet Recovery, and Transferability of OS & iLife Apps
Selling an Old Mac:
• When selling an old Mac, the only OS that is legally transferable is the one that came preinstalled when the Mac was new. Selling a Mac with an upgraded OS isn't doing the new owner any favors. Attempting to do so will only result in headaches since the upgraded OS can't be registered by the new owner. If a clean install becomes necessary, they won't be able to do so and will be forced to install the original OS via Internet Recovery. Best to simply erase the drive and revert back to the original OS prior to selling any Mac.
• Additionally, upgrading the OS on a Mac you intend to sell means that you are leaving personally identifiable information on the Mac since the only way to upgrade the OS involves using your own AppleID to download the upgrade from the App Store. So there will be traces of your info and user account left behind. Again, best to erase the drive and revert to the original OS via Internet Recovery.
Internet Recovery:
• In the event that the OS has been upgraded to a newer version (i.e. Lion to Mountain Lion), Internet Recovery will offer the version of the OS that originally came with the Mac. So while booting to the Recovery Disk will show Mountain Lion as available for reinstall since that is the current version running, Internet Recovery, on the other hand, will only show Lion available since that was the OS shipped with that particular Mac.
• Though the Mac came with a particular version of Mac OS X, it appears that, when Internet Recovery is invoked, the most recent update of that version may be applied. (i.e. if the Mac originally came with 10.7.3, Internet Recovery may install a more recent update like 10.7.5)
iLife Apps:
• When the App Store is launched for the first time it will report that the iLife apps are available for the user to Accept under the Purchases section. The user will be required to enter their AppleID during the Acceptance process. From that point on the iLife apps will be tied to the AppleID used to Accept them. The user will be allowed to download the apps to other Macs they own if they wish using the same AppleID used to Accept them.
• Once Accepted on the new Mac, the iLife apps can not be transferred to any future owner when the Mac is sold. Attempting to use an AppleID after the apps have already been accepted using a different AppleID will result in the App Store reporting "These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID".
• It appears, however, that the iLife Apps do not automatically go to the first owner of the Mac. It's quite possible that the original owner, either by choice or neglect, never Accepted the iLife apps in the App Store. As a result, a future owner of the Mac may be able to successfully Accept the apps and retain them for themselves using their own AppleID. Bottom Line: Whoever Accepts the iLife apps first gets to keep them.
SELLING A MAC B
Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
side.
4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
4. Install OS X.
5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
6. Shutdown the computer.
B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
it is three times faster than wireless.
1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
Utilities window appears.
2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License. -
Is anyone else experiencing frequent blackout problems on an external monitor in Mountain Lion? I called Apple Support and got a temporary fix by removing preferences, but frequent --several second-- blackouts are back. Will an HDMI cable alleviate this?
I have been experiencing this, but with Lion, not Mountain Lion. It is driving me nuts!
I am using LG L246WP monitor via HDMI to DVI on MacPro1,1. I have tried changing cables, even tried VGA to DVI (no blackouts with VGA, but not sure I can trust that, because there is no set pattern of when it will blackout!).
I did try another monitor for most of a day - no blackouts/flickers, and as soon as I hooked up my original monitor, I got blackouts, which led me to believe it is the monitor.
I have searched and read several forums on blackouts, each with different configurations, so at this point I am not sure what it is. I even replaced my Graphics/Video card, because someone on Apple forum said most likely that was the culprit, but still having same problem (even as I type this!).
It is like something is intermittently interfering with signal??? -
Restoring MPBR with Mountain Lion instead of Lion
Help i'm trying to restore my MBPR 15" and when I go to the restore panel on startup it only restores to regular Lion not Mountain Lion. The Macbook came with Mountain Lion and i'm not selling it. I just want a fresh copy of Mountain Lion and I really would not like to buy it off the App Store.
ThanksDid you ever register the computer with Apple? Register Your Apple Product and Your Support Profile for Registered Purchases.
I'm really not sure what you are doing, but here's the correct process if you have a Recovery HD:
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -
I upgraded my OS and now my Canon LIDE 100 scanner won't work. I've downloaded (countless times, then deleted) what is suppposed to be the current driver, the one that works with OS X 8.2, and I've even worked via telephone with a Mac support person doing this. What downloads, however, is some sort of partial driver (and sometimes nothing, but when I get something it's this partial driver). The icon from the download shows a scanner, not the design for the scanner control panel. And when I open the icon, I don't get anything. The scanner itself will work manually and shows as connected to my Mac, but the image does not transfer, nor is there any means for specifying where the image is to go on my Mac.
Could someone tell me EITHER--
(a) a better place to get the scanner (than Canon's web site) or a way to download it that works,
OR
(b) what scanner does work with Mountain Lion.
I should add that my printer and backup hard drive work fine with OS X.8.2. Neither even required a new driver.
I'm an academic and need the scanner DAILY for my work. Not having it really impedes all sorts of ordinary activities.
Thanks1If you have not already done so, delete your existing scanner in System Preferences > Print & Scan, and add it again. This ensures the proper drivers will be downloaded and installed. I think Apple would have already had you do this though.
As of Lion, all scanning functions that required proprietary software in the past are now incorporated natively in OS X. Your existing Canon scanner should still work.
You no longer require any specialized scanning utilities from Canon. Any such utility you already have may not work.
You can scan three ways:
Preview > Import from Scanner... (Preview is in your Applications folder.)
The Image Capture program, in your Applications folder
System Preferences > Print & Scan > (select your scanner) > Scan tab.
All your previous capability should still be available, though it may be hard to find. -
Buying a new mac with mountain lion grants free upgrade on others?
I currently have three macs running lion. I am about to purchase a new mac with mountain lion. Does the purchase allow me to download the OS in app store, which in turn would allow me to upgrade my other macs to mountain lion free of charge?
Before you buy your Mac, just check to make sure it doesn't come with Mountain Lion already installed. If it comes with Lion, then you will have to download Mountain Lion from the App Store, and then you will be able to install it on all your Macs.
I believe the same applies for iLife, if it comes pre-installed on the Mac, then you probably will not be able to download it on all your other Macs. -
Camcorders compatible with Mountain Lion
I have been searching for a camcorder to replace my Flip Nano, but the search has been more difficult than I had expected. Another section of this website suggested that I post my question here. Here's what I had posted there:
"I'm in the market for a new camcorder because my Flip Nano is incompatible with Mountain Lion and always will be. However, selecting the replacement is more difficult than I had anticipated. First, there's the matter of selecting candidates, but the search doesn't end there. The question then becomes, will the new camcorder be compatible with Mountain Lion? So far, I have asked three of the sellers about this and two have told me, surprisingly,"I don't know" (the other hasn't yet replied--Has now. Can't help). I'm looking for some shortcut that will make the selection process easier. Can I assume that all camcorders made by the same manufacturer, Sony, for instance, respond in the same way to Mountain Lion? Is there another way to get the information I need? Fortunately, I only have this problem with the two applications/devices that I'd like to keep, and one of them is working on the fix. My only regret is that I installed Mountain Lion, because I preferred Snow Leopard."
In another rmessage, I said the following "...So, my conclusion is, it's not very easy to find camcorders that are compatible with Mountain Lion...unless, unless there is a site for Mac/Mountain Lion users that contains camcorders, and other things, that are compatible with Mountain Lion. or that aren't. Could this be such a place?".
There you have it. Does anyone have any ideas?AppleMan1958 wrote:
Mountain Lion does not work directly with video cameras. You need an app like iMovie or Final Cut Pro to import video.
Here is a list of video cameras supported by iMovie.

Thank you; however I now find that Flip4Mac has been upgraded to work with Mountain Lion (Why didn't they tell me?). Anyway, I have now downloaded their upgrade, and while I haven't yet tested it, I'm hopeful that it will solve the problem. -

I have Minimac with OSX Server - can I reload it with Mountain Lion?
I have a minmac and runs OSX Server. I do need the server control so can I go ahead and restore with Mountain Lion?
Actually, when you install Mountain Lion client, the Lion version
of Server and its components will be quarantined as an incompatible
app and could then be disposed of.
So either delete before or delete after willl work. -
