Three monitors?

I recently got a used iMac, which I got a really good deal on because the display had stopped working.  This was no big deal for me because I had an extra monitor, so I just bought an adaptor for the iMac's monitor port and hooked up my extra monitor.  Now I just use my iMac as though it were a standard tower computer, with an external monitor.  It's a much better computer than my last iMac, except for one thing: On my old iMac, I had gotten used to using two monitors, mainly so I could use my second monitor for the canvas window in Final Cut Pro.  But I can't do that on my new iMac because it already sees my main monitor as the second monitor.  I have mirroring turned on, since the internal monitor is dead.
So I'm just wondering if there's any way to connect a third monitor, which would really be my second monitor, since, like I said, the primary monitor is not viewable.  Thanks.

Coincidentally I have the same setup on an old iMac which monitor has been dying for more than three years (still can seee some stuff in it, but very poorly). I attached a second monitor to it and mirrored it. Everything works fine. The lesson learned was to buy AppleCare while you are still within the allowed period. The monitor went bad when I was no longer eligible to purchase it but would still be elligible for free repair had I bought it initially. Every mac I bought after comes with AppleCare almost immediately after purchase.

  • Three monitors with one video card???

I have the H520 (Intel HD onboard graphics, HDMI and VGA out, i%, 8GB RAM< 2TB drive) driving two monitors. I have a business need to deive three monitors.
I spent 12 hours trying to get an EVGA GT 640 sc to work, having tried many approaches per EVGA support, such as disabling Secure Boot, Quick Boot, ad infinitum. Nothing was successful (for long), and that card goes back today.
I don't mind buying an aftermarket card that would frive, say one HDMI and two DVI out, but I was told by Lenovo TS that "some of the computers allow an addon VGA card without disabling onboard video. Simple VGA or better, DVI would do nicely.
Does anyone know such a card (I am prepared to install any power supply needed), or if a VGA card can be used with the onboard grapics chip? I only need VGA on the second and third monitor, and if a simple card will coexist with the Intel HD onboard that would be my first choice.
    Thanks.

Thanks, Ex, I have seen those, but:
    1) I am already USB-slot restrained (planning to add a USB 3.0 card, if the system allows), and
    2) I have not read up on it, but wonder hor USB (especially 2.0) could provide the bandwidth of PCIe x16 or even x1.

  • Three monitor setup

I have an Envy 700 339 desktop running windows 8 I want to set up three monitors ...PC existing card has 1-dvi, 1-hdmi...monitors are samsung 27" hdmi and have dvi/hdmi in/out
Do I need another card for optimum setup or am I missing something?
I purchased an hdmi splitter which works great for duplication but not for extended desktop.... I am not a gamer so I am not looking for fully extended, but simply two more monitors for moving windows around and other applications etc... My apologies if this is a rudimentary question I'm no techie for sure

  • Three monitor setup, Only use one of them?

    Hi!
Before i buy a third monitor I want to make sure everything work as expected. I need to be able to switch between the monitors so sometimes I want all of them to be active, sometimes only two or one of them. How do i switch between those modes?
I have two now and its easy in Windows + P where i can choose "PC Screen only" and "Second Screen Only" or extend. How does it looks with three monitors? What i want to switch between First & Second and Second & Third ?

  • Three Monitor Save, Two Monitor Hang- CS6

I have three monitors running from my Dell M6600 at work.  I save a Premiere Project with any panel open on the third monitor. Then take my computer home where I only have two monitors and open the project file, Premiere hangs.  It will never launch the application fully.  It opens to the point where it would normally load project data, and then hangs.
As a workarround I have begun making sure I save the project with all panels on two screens.  However, if I forget then the only solution I have is to go to work to open the project.  (Or get a third monitor at home...)
I would love to be able to edit the project XML and remove or reset the panel layout.  Anyone else experiencing this issue?  or know how to "hack/workaround" the project file?

    Jim Simon wrote:
I don't think that's correct.  Each project loads with the last saved window arrangement, named or not.  So he'll need to rearrange the windows before saving at work (or get that third monitor at home).
I'm just going by the help file:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html
"If a project saved with a custom workspace is opened on another system, the application looks for a workspace with a matching name. If it can’t find a match (or the monitor configuration doesn’t match), it uses the current local workspace."
But like I said, I haven't tested it out myself.

  • Distribute video output over three monitors (+ another)

    Hi there,
I've got a triple beamer setup + a Cinema Display. My Mac Pro has two ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT cards. What I need to do now is use the monitor as an operating monitor and combine/distribute the triple beamers in such a way that I can play one 1920 x 480 video file over all three monitors simultaneously, for an event.
The two ATI 2600 cards are especially in there to be able to do this, but when I try to combine the monitors through display settings or through the Quicktime settings, it just doesn't seem possible. VLC won't play my ProRes 422 material, but I could re-render off course when the video is done.
Is my only option a bloody €200,- video splitter, or can I do this 'the software way?'. I find it so hard to imagine that what I want wouldn't be possible with all the hardware power I've already got! Friendly greetings, Douwe.

If you click the "?" in the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference, it will tell you how to set three out of the four displays to mirror mode, leaving the fourth separate.

  • Aperture, Mavericks, three monitors

    Anyone?
I have a (late '13) 15" rMBP, and two external monitors.  I would like to do two things, neither of which I know how:
    1.  Use the keyboard and touchpad of the laptop, but turn the laptop screen off and use only the two external monitors in a dual-monitor set-up.  (Clamshell mode works great, but then I need an external keyboard and pointing device.)
    2.  Use all three monitors, with Aperture on the two external monitors (as primary and secondary) and either use the laptop screen for other windows/HUDS, or other programs.  The problem here is that with two external monitors, Aperture mirrors the secondary display on the third display.
I had no touble running a three monitor display on Mavericks.  The two external displays have DVI ports (iirc).  With one, I used a DVI-MiniDisplayPort dongle.  With the other, a special cable I got from NEC to goes from DVI on one end to MiniDisplayPort on the other.  The MiniDisplayPort connector fits in the Thunderbolt ports of the MBP, and works.  (I've been using the monitors separately in dual-monitor mode with the laptop for a while.)

if i plug in a monitor to my 2nd vid card aperture crashes too ...
i would like to be able to put aperture on three monitors as well ...
apparently we are in the minority ... i have just taken my third offline totally ... and since i use PS less and less every day and added a 30" it hasn't really been a factor for most everything else ... but i would love to have my image on the 30, my browser/project view on one 23 and the huds, etc on the other 23 ...
maybe some day, the kinks will work out ...

  • Three Monitors in a Power Mac

    Dear All,
I have a Power Mac with the ATI Radeon HD 5770 card, I need to connect three monitors to that card. The main one and I need the second and third monitor having the same video or image, I already bought a DVI splliter and did not work, and also I used two mini DVI connecters and the regular DVI with three monitors and I am not getting the three signals.
Thanks a lot for your suggestions.
    ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics

The Apple articles tell you the path Apple has laid out for your success, but not the entire picture.
To drive three displays off these cards, you need all converters to be ACTIVE, POWERED converters. The signal levels must be re-driven, and the Driver circuits to do this cannot quite get enough power off the card itself to do this.
This article on AMD/ATI web site has an additional descriptions and "Rules" in the paragraphs at the top of the page. The tables below list some qualified adapters under the correct headings.
Read Carefully: DisplayPort is not MINI DisplayPort, and there are headings for ACTIVE as well as PASSIVE included.
Also note that Amazon searches do not always return EXACT results.
"Dual-Link" contain double data signals, for servicing SINGLE displays that are wider than 1920 wide.
The Mac is completely capable of Mirroring displays in any combination on the same Display card.
The USB-to-DVI box BDAqua cited is an interesting way to get an additional display output, but is probably not needed since your 5770 can already support three displays if you use the right adapters. It is said to be s-l-o-w.

  • Using three monitors with keynotes?

I have three monitors on my mac book and want to use the presenter view on two of the monitors and the show on the third.  Is there an app or patch I can use to do this?

    Thanks very much, perfect!
Only thing is you don't need to press the "?" button. But it seems a little temperamental when you option + click + drag. I found you to have to deselect but clicking anywhere in the window and reselected the window you wish to mirror (which I assume press the "?" does the same thing).
I never thought it was going to be this simple, I was sure I would need to install a third party app or something.
    Thanks again!!!!!!!

  • Does anyone have three monitors working?

A friend of mine who enjoys the piece of mind of using Linux, but not the poking and prodding recently "inherited" a good monitor in addition to the two he already had.
He has two Nvidia cards. One came with the computer and has one out while the other card is much nicer and has dual outputs.
Has anyone gotten three monitors to work in Linux? I googled, but it seems that most of the things I read are from 2004-ish, and it wasn't so good back then.

    AFAIK
one screen on the old card, one screen with 2 monitors on the new one and in the ServerLayout section you declare both screens ala
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "MEGAMONITORZ"
    Screen "OldScreen"
    Screen "NewScreen" LeftOf "OldScreen"

  • How to fix three monitors after installing latest Mac update?

I installed the latest release, OS X 10.9.3 (13D65), and now my three monitors are all messed up.  I tried going into sytem preferences and looking at the monitor set up there, but nothing helped.
When I move my mouse, I never know where it is going to show up, and it does not move properly from one screen to another.
    Any ideas?

Try this: download and retrofit (force install) QT 7.1.6 using Pacifist, then run the 10.4.10 Combo Updater for Intel Macs. Make sure it is the "combo" updater. Be sure to restart in safe mode after using Pacifist and then install/re-install the combo update (while in safe mode). For all those "non-techie" people (like myself), please try this if you already haven't and please read the instructions for Pacifist - if you use Pacifist correctly, it will ask you if you want to replace (vs. update) all of the Quicktime components (yes, you want to replace), so you will know that you are accomplishing what you need to. The first fix I tried was just to reinstall the Mac OSX10.4.10 combo update for Intel Macs and this did not work, but when I used Pacifist and then reinstalled the MacOS X combo updater (do not get this confused with the update that is not the "combo" one- (use the links), it worked! I am not a web developer, so did not have to deal with the Java 6 stuff.

  • Three monitors cause Aperture to crash immediately

    Hi all,
On a Mac Pro, I have two video cards. Two monitors are plugged into an ATI 1900XT (20" portrait and 24" landscape) and one 22" in an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT.
All applications behave wonderfully except for Aperture. When I launch aperture, it crashes seconds after displaying some thumbnails. If I unplug the third monitor (the one on the 7300 GT), launch Aperture then plug the third monitor back in, Aperture crashes right away.
Does anyone have any experience with a similar set up ?

  • Connect 2014 MBP Retina to Three monitors

    Hi all,
I've been attempting to connect my MBP (integrated and not dedicated graphics card) to three external monitors unsuccessfully though I am unsure why. I have done some research and discovered that it only 'supports' two external screens, though I am unsure why this is the case? I Can connect three monitors to any HD 4000 + chip without any issues and the integrated graphics should be more than capable of handling it? Upon connecting a third a random screen will just turn off.
Is there any way of disabling the integrated screen in favour of an external? so running 3 external rather than 2 + integrated?
Is my only option here to use a displaylink adapter? I'm failing to see why the laptop has three display outs. If you can only use two.
Thanks for any help, or explanation provided.
    Best.
    Swires.

Leave the TBD connected to your laptop and do 2 types of resets (google) PRAM and then an SMC reset.

  • Can the new 2014 Mini (with Yosemite) be connected to three monitors?

Can the new Mac Mini drive 3 monitors simultaneously from the two mini displayports and the HDMI port?  When reading the specs I remember reading that it could drive 2 monitors via the mini displayports.  I'm wondering if it can also drive a third monitor thru the HDMI port at the same time.

No, natively the Min can't drive three monitor.
For a third monitot you need an addition adopter like:
