Three questions on audio volume, widescreen, export

Hello,
I am in the heat of building my 40 minute slideshow imovie hd6 to idvd 08 project with some important questions.
first question: I have lots of voice audio and music loops which have been nicely edited, cleaned, normalized - all WAV files, high output, no distortion. I imported these to test into imovie then idvd and played on TV, and it was really LOUD. And some of the voices distorted a bit, and the music almost blew my speakers. I had the volume way down. Is idvd normalizing all the audio? What is happening? If I understand it, I can workaround it in Audacity. Just drop the gain a bit?
second question: I am confused about the standard vs. widescreen. I have been thinking about doing the project in widescreen, the dvds will be distributed to folks, free of charge. My format is PAL, I live in Spain. A film making friend told me that 50% of people had widescreen tv's these days. I'm confused.
third question: I want to both make a dvd with idvd and also have a master copy to give to production company who would rather have it in .mov format to make copies. What is the best way to export getting maximum quality of image and sound, but that I can transport to someone?
thank you,
Jenifer
ps I have crossposted to imovie hd6.

Hi
1.
iMovie 1 to HD 6 mainly are intended for two kind of materials (as I get it)
• Video - StreamingDV (as from a miniDV Camera) and via FireWire
• Audio - Except from Camera also .aiff 48kHz 16-bit
I would
• Convert the audio to .aiff 48kHz 16-bit
2.
Don't really understand. Most DVD-player can be set to match the Play-back device
eg Widescreen or CTR-TV
3.
DVD is a final product with a very reduced quality.
I only use miniDV tape and standard 4x3 TV-video as my material and to keep Maximum
Quality I always Copy-back to tape and deliver this. Then the reciever get's
100% of original quality.
If You use 16x9 HD then I don't know if Copy-back to tape is a working solution
for You. There are HDV-Cameras using a very similar tape as miniDV and this
should also keep Max Quality.

  • Three questions about the CS4 SDK Exporter

Hello. I'm working to make an Exporter Plug-In that supports "Pro CS4" and "Elements 8.0" single binary.
Please give me any advices to complete it. I show you the questions as follows:
How can I get the slider screen without checkbox (in parameter GUI)
How to enable an Exporter Plug-In at "Elements 8.0".
What is the difference between ver.4.0 and ver.4.2 in exExpoterInfoRec.
    Details below.
    1st:
        I tried PrSDKExportParamSuite::AddParam() with exParamFlag_slider and exParamFlag_optional.
Both cases parameter GUI shows slider with checkbox. Please teach me a method to use simple slider (no checkbox) in parameter GUI.
BTW, Standard plugins are seem to use "Premiere Export Private Statndar Param Suite". Are you planning to publish it?
    2nd:
The Premiere Elements 8.0 never shows any additional Exporter Plug-in, including SDK sample (ExporterSDK.prm).
Please tell me if I need special installation procedures.
    3rd:
I found that the exExporterInfoRec is difference between 4.0 and 4.2. The exExporterInfoRec[ver. 4.2] is defined in CS4SDK_r1. But I can't find any definition of exExporterInfoRec[ver. 4.0] in the SDK.
An Exporter Plug-In is build with CS4SDK_r1 never work on the Premiere Pro CS4 (4.0) / Media Encoder CS4 (4.0). I need definition of exExporterInfoRec[ver. 4.0] to support CS4 (ver. 4.0).
    Thanks.

Below is the definition of the return values in Premiere Elements 8. The red values are unique to Premiere Elements 8, and shifted the subsequent return values 2 values higher than their definition in the Premiere Pro SDK.

Obviously, this wasn't the right way to add these new return values.

  • "Determining Audio Volume" question

    Hello,
While fooling around on iTunes, I somehow changed a setting so that the rectangular window at the top of the screen, which normally shows the song being played, the status of syncing, etc., now shows the message, "Determining Audio Volume" and appears to be running through all the songs on my Mac. I can click the "X" to the right of the window and that stops the activity for the time being, but the next time I open iTunes, it starts all over. I can't figure out how to stop this activity.
    Any suggestions?

Let it finish? How many years should I wait? iTunes is totally disabled by this "feature". If I stop the Determining, the program freezes and I have to force quit. If I try to select a song while it's doing this, the same. I have un-installed and re-installed and gone back to prior versions and used previous libraries and yada yada ad nauseum. Why is support so poor? My impression is that this application just ties itself in knots that cannot be untangled. I have no videos, no podcasts, no state-of-the-art stuff, but I do a lot of live recording (mp3s and WAV files) and want to archive and manage it in iTunes (what alternative do I have?), and it seems utterly deficient for that task. Whenever I try to play anything on the computer, the audio defaults to iTunes, and that's the end of that. I've tried Audacity, but it's slow and cumbersome and doesn't burn audio cds.
Why is iTunes so problematic, and why do we have to wade through thousands of discussions with helpful titles like "help" to look for solutions? I've had Macs since 1984, and this is just sad.

  • Reset audio volume

I'm not sure where to post this question, but here goes. Is it possible to reset the audio on my mac so that the sound volume of video clips and movies is raised? I regularly encounter video with audio volume that is too low, even though I have the volume level in System Preferences set to the maximum. I find the problem in DVDs, QT, and YouTube, etc.
    Thanks, Caoim

Might be corrupted sound preferences ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy paste the following;
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Click Go then move both .plist files from the Audio folder to the Trash.
    com.apple.audioDeviceSettings.pllist
    com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
Restart your Mac. See if that made a difference ...

  • Mismatched audio levels on export

Forgive me if this has been answered, but I've been searching for the answer and cannot seem to find it here.
I have two projects that are essentially the same.  Both are templates for a news teaser that we create every day (there are actually seven).  One of them, however, consistenty exports with a lower audio volume than all the rest, and I can't figure out why.
I'm using Stereo channel configuration for all projects.
The volume levels are exactly the same in every corresponding clip within each project.
All projects are using the ProRes codec for audio rendering.
Even the audio meters show consistent levels.
The disparity appears ONLY after exporting, and it is the exact same project every time.
Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts?

Try to re-drag the audio file into the project. FCPx is really bad with audio. Many times after altering levels, say lowering by 6db... Then dragging the slider back to 0db will STILL playback @ negative 6db.
Re-dragging the soundclip to the timeline normally fixes this. Sometimes I even have to create a new project, and copy paste from culprit to new project.
If you are using .CAF files on ML you are asking fro trouble as OS X cannot handle those files properly. The way to deal with those are to open them in Logic Pro (if you have it) and export the file to WAV

  • Three questions about Droplets

My first question is about a comparison between using Image Processor from Bridge to run Actions in Photoshop versus using Droplets in Post Processing from Lightroom's Export.
As I understand it, using Image Processor will run my Sharpening Action on the Camera Raw file before it converts it to a JPEG. Using Lightroom's Export with the same Action as a Droplet will convert the Raw image to a JPEG first, then run the Action. How much of a quality impact will this have? And should I care?
My second question is regarding using the Droplet itself. When I set up my Action to include the "Save" and "Close" steps, it will run properly when I am Exporting a single file from Lightroom. It will first Export the file, then Photoshop loads, the image opens, has the action applied, and then the image closes, and all is complete. I have even run this successfully when I start with two files simultaneously selected. Both images get Exported, and then the Droplets are applied.
My problem is when I try to start with a full folder (approximately fifty images) selected. The Export completes correctly, but Photoshop never seems to apply the Droplets. Photoshop just sits there. Any ideas what is happening?
My third question is about where I might be able to find a detailed tutorial about all of the considerations in setting up and using Droplets. The Photoshop help files are very abbreviated for my liking.
Thanks for your help in these three questions.
    Nick

i >"As I understand it, using Image Processor will run my Sharpening Action on the Camera Raw file before it converts it to a JPEG"
Wrong I'm afraid. The RAW file is/cannot be affected. The sharpening only takes place after conversion to the editable format.
Sharpening (and I'm assuming here that we are talking about
    i output
sharpening) should always be carried out as a final part of the editing process
    b after
resizing an image for it's final destination. the same image destined for a 20x16" print would require a different amount of sharpening to a version for placing on a web page.
The amount of sharpening required by an image is also dictated by content so you can see how a fixed amount of sharpening applied via an action/batch/droplet will rarely give the optimum result.
Capture Sharpening, on the other hand, is intended to compensate for the softening of image detail inherent in virtually all image sensors. This is best carried out by Lightroom and can be applied at the time of import via a preset.

  • Audio sync problem: exporting from FCP to Pro tools or soundtrack pro

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Cut Pro sound export for mastering.....sync problem
    Hey,
I'm editing a 30 minute film and I have done most of the sound edit in FCP and Soundtrack pro and I want to now bring all the sound into pro tools to master the sound but every time i export sound into pro tools it seems to stretch by two or three seconds.
I have tried OMF, AIFF, XML, and Quicktime audio file sut to no avail!!!!
There are 50 tracks in the file so it is quiet large. It's not that there are handles of the file also as when I sync the file with the audio track with the video it syncs in one place but it is still out of sync in another.........It's as if the audio has been stretched!?!
If anyone has any advice it'd be much appreciated
    Keith

Try mixing down the audio first. Sequence/Render Only/Audio mixdown.
You could even try exporting the audio with the Export QT movie command using "current settings" and reimport that file, Add that mixed down file to a copy of the sequence. If it syncs in FCP I'd think it will sync on export too.

  • Low audio volume in DVD SP

I've been experiencing low audio volume with burned DVDs in DVD SP 4.
The audio volume is fine in FCP, and also in the self-contained exported QT file.
But once imported into DVD SP and burned to a DVD, the volume is almost cut in half on multiple projects. The DVD's are short (< 30 minutes) so the audio is left as an AIFF file rather than converting it to an .ac3 with Compressor.
I don't see any way to control the volume in DVD SP.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Richard<br>
    G5 dual 2 gig   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   4.5 Gigs Ram

There's no way to control volume in DVDSP.
I had the same problem, but I had an ac3 file through Compressor. And there was this feature in it called "dialog normalization" that I had to turn off (setting it at -31dB), and my levels were good.
If you can't solve your problem with AIFF, maybe try ac3, and see if it suits you.

  • Audio volume problem in Premiere elements 12

How can I reduce or increase volume in the soundtrack???

Sorry for my English but I hope you understandthe following.
I have for the moment no time to go through your comments and ideas, but I certainly will do the coming days.
For good order I’ll explain my problem more in detail: (working with Window’s 7)
When I use Tools>smartmix, I change Audio 1 in “forground”, Comments in “foreground”, Soundtrack in “Background”, Audio 2 and 3 in “Background”. So far so good!.
Next step is: edit>preferences>audio>smartmixer, and the only thing I can change is “milliseconds (i.e. 10)”, “mix pause (i.e. 5 sec)”, and “reduce background in % (i.e. 90%)”. So far so good again!
The volume sound  of the audio track is indeed reduced when there is a conversation in the clip, but not enough, so still too loud, certainly when the conversation stops, the volume sound is far too loud.
    What do I want:
    a)      Remain the original volume from the conversations etc. in the clip, so don’t change anything in here.
    b)      Reduce the volume to the level I like!
I realise, this looks an easy and simple question, but I can’t fide out  hou too lower only the volume in a soudtrack!
Waiting your reply and many thanks in advance

  • No audio when I export as a quicktime movie

I am exporting my movie from FCE as a quicktime movie, but there is no audio on the exported file. Why would this be?

The audio tracks are switched off in the timeline. You're not monitoring it properly. Where are you watching in the video? In the QT player? In FCE? Somewhere else? Are there any meters in that application? Are they moving? Is the volume turned up?

  • Please help,Three Questions for Tuxedo

    Hi All
I am new to Tuxedo, I ha ve three questions about tuxedo:
    1. My Tuxedo is running on Linux, Can it connect to Ms SQL Server running on another server? How?
    2. I want to use C++ to program for Tuxedo server, but I found all samples are developed by C language. I want to know, Is there any special settings or switch
    for C++ language when I program,especially Buildserver.
    3. If there is proxy server between Tuxedo Client and server, is it feasible?
    thanks
    Kevin

    Kevin,
    1. Most modern databases offer a way for a remote database client to connect to a database running on a remote site. (For example, Oracle database provides the SqlNet=db_link parameter to specify a networked connection to a remote database.)
I'm not familiar with MS SQL Server, but from documentation and previous newsgroup postings it appears that when using SQL Server with the XA interface the application administrator uses the guidgen program to generate an RmRecoveryGuid parameter that is specified as part of the OPENINFO string in the *GROUPS section in the UBBCONFIG file.  If MS SQL Server allows these RmRecoveryGuid parameters to be used on a different machine, then it is possible to access the database from a remote machine using the XA interface.
(If accessing Tuxedo without using XA, then the application is responsible for connecting to the database in the same
    2. Many customers use C++ to implement Tuxedo applications. The samples/atmi/xmlstockapp application is a sample ATMI application using C++.
When using C++ with Tuxedo you will need to set the environment variable
    export CC=name_of_C++_compiler
and you may need to set
    export CFLAGS=any_additional_compilation_flags_required
    3. Customers can use Tuxedo across a proxy server or a firewall. When configuring the workstation listener for this case you will probably need to use the -H external-netaddr parameter as described at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15261_01/tuxedo/docs11gr1/rf5/rf5.html#wp1534543

  • More finegrained audio volume control? (Harman/Kardon USB SoundSticks)

    Hi,
I've been asking this question for every major release since 10.2 and I am near to just give up on it. I use the Harman/Kardon SoundSticks (the older USB model, not version 2 with the regular audio jack) and since 10.2 they are simply too loud. Since the speakers themselves do not have any volume control knob it has to be a software solution.
With OS X's sound volume keys I can only use "1 bar of volume" when in front of my Mac and even that is too loud. The only solution is to turn it off completely or to lower it a little bit via the volume control slider in the menu bar. This results in approximately "3/4 bar of volume". Moving it just a tiny bit down from here results in muted audio.
Is there any way to just reduce the overall audio volume via software? Sure, I can do it app by app, but I really need a systemwide solution!
    Thanks
    Björn

Then maybe you're really lucky or just like the high volume setting. This problem exists for years now and it's definitely not caused by my hardware/software. It was the same with the following Macs:
    - Power Mac G4
    - iBook G3
    - iBook G4
    - Power Mac G4 Cube
    - PowerBook G4 Ti
    - PowerBook G4 Alu
    - MacBook Pro CD
    - MacBook Pro C2D
And it happened on all releases of OS X from 10.2 up to 10.5. All versions were installed clean without upgrading so I really have reason to believe it's Apple's sound driver for the SoundSticks...

  • Audio volume low

Could domeone help me with audio recorded in QT directly from the video camera? The audio volume of the .mov file is very low although it's turned to maximum. When the same clip is uploaded from camera to Final Cut Pro the volume of audio is normal. When this clip is exported from FCP to QT the audio of the .mov is loud and clear.

This is a BUG.  It has been submitted to engineering many times - unfortunately Apple has not done anything about it.   We have 5 Mac Pros,  all 5 do the same thing after updating to Yosemite.   The  PRAM / SMC reset is useless -  we even  installed a fresh  OS on one of the machines (a suggestion of the level 2 Apple tech)  same problem.   Clearly this is a system level bug.   Only way to get it resolved is to keep pounding the bug report site with requests.     The squeaky wheel gets the oil.   The problem is 100% repeatable on the machines that exhibit the bug.
In the mean time  set up an applescript with this command and it will reset the sound - do not include the brackets :
<do shell script "sudo killall coreaudiod" with administrator privileges>
Run it every time you wake from sleep and you won't have to deal with the problem ever again.
Pretty lame that Apple has not fixed it even though the problem appears to be pretty widespread.

  • Only Three Questions !!!

    Hi Experts !!
I have three questions, please clarify.
    1) At OS level we have two SAP services that are running, first is the SAPOSCOL service and second is SAP<SID>_<Instance_no>
I know what SAPOSCOL do..but what is the role of this second service SAP<SID>_<Instance_no> ?
    2) During a client export using scc8, it is said that upto three transport requests can be generated depending on the copy profile selected for export. Now to start this export process we have to schedule a background job and the export process will start asynchronously.
Now my question is how will i know which transport requests are created for this export .....I mean where will i see these created requests and when ( means are these requests created as soon as the background job is scheduled or after the completion of the export process ) ?
    3) Suppose I have three application servers( one central and two dialog instance )for an R/3 system (say dev)
Now my question is how will I start or stop these servers....will SAP MMC will be present in all the three application servers and I need to log to each application server and start it OR only the central instance will have the SAP MMC and I can start or stop all the application servers from there ??
Thanks in advance. Points will surely be rewarded.
    Mandeep

    Hello Mandeep,
    Here are the answers
    1. SAP_SID_Instance Number service will help you in setting up auto start or manual start of SAP services when Windows comes up.
    2. Once you use SCC8 and start the client export you can start monitoring it using SCC3 once the export is completed it will show in SCC3 what all the requests generated. These three Import requests are generated in STMS. You can go and check in import overview for the same import request and start the import of them in respective clients and system.
    3. Hey Buddy each of these servers will have MMC on it.
Always you need to shutdown application servers first then CI. Then while starting Start CI then apps.
    Thanks & Regards

  • SX80 Audio Volume Became low

I am using SX80 unit with projector connected with 50' HDMI cable, and the main audio also comes out from projector over HDMI. I am also getting another audio out to external amplfier+ speaker set to the back side of the room ( this is faily large room).
Suddenly I came across that the audio volume over the projector ( though HDMI) became very low. But the audio over "line out" was still OK. I was not able to figure out why this became low; I even tried TC console, and nothing I could do there to get normal audio out.
Everything became normal after a factory reset. Does anyone had similaro experience with SX80 ?
    Thanks, Nick.

At a guess, I'd say that the SX80 is echo cancelling as it's hearing itself back through the microphones too much.
We've seen this quite a few times on various models of endpoint - and the end users usually think "I can't hear, so I'll turn the volume up" which often makes the problem worse.  Turning the volume down on the display device, and the endpoint, usually resolves the issue.
PS Your question would be better placed in the TelePresence section of the forums where these devices are more actively discussed than in the Other Collaboration section you have posted in.  If the above has not answered your question, I'd suggest you move your discussion over there.
