Three random Leopard questions...

#1) Showing folders names on folder icon in Coverflow
Is this even possible? I think I'm asking for too much from Apple in this case, but it would be great to be able to concentrate on the folders as I flip through them to find the one I need, instead of glancing down at the filenames below the icons.
#2) Force Finder to stay in the folder of last highlighted item when switching from Coverflow to 'Column View' and 'Icon View'.
Let's say I have a folder structure of Pictures->Nature->Mountains. I'm in Coverflow view and I drill down, using the arrows on the left of the folders, to a photo within 'Mountains'. That photo is highlighted since I am looking at it with Coverflow, then I decide I want to view THAT SAME FOLDER KEEPING THE SAME FILE HIGHLIGHTED in 'Column View' or 'Icon View'. I click on 'Column View' or 'Icon View' and I suddenly jump to the main 'Pictures' folder, and then have to re-drill back to the photo I was just viewing. Switching from Coverflow to 'List View' (and vis versa) works fine. 'Icon View' and 'Column View' don't remember the last thing viewed in Coverflow. Can this be changed?
Does any of that makes sense?
#3) Keeping ANY window on top of everything else.
Is there a way to do this with all applications? I know some have it as an option, but it would be a HUGE help to be able to tell any window to float on top of everything else.
Ok, long post - thanks!

Actually, your item 1 is a hot idea. I hope Apple adopts it. I also noticed the problem in #2.

    *Start your 24" iMac, click the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar at the top (it shows the clock, wifi, audio level, etc), then select the Keyboard and then disconnect.*
    *Also from that bluetooth menu, goto 'Open Bluetooth Preferences' and you should see the keyboard there as well. There is a little 'minus' sign in the lower left of that window. Select the Keyboard and press the minus sign and it should remove the Keyboard from that iMac.*
    *On your new iMac, make it discoverable (the device and the new Mac), and you should be able to pair it from there.*
    2) I default to Preview and Text Edit when I want to use Adobe Acrobat and Word. How do I change this?
    *Answered in previous posts.*
    3) When I sync my iPhone it does not download the iPhone photos to iPhoto. I see the device in iPhoto. How do I download my photos into iPhoto so I have them resident on my computer and can open and manipulate in Photoshop?
    *Shot in the dark. So open up iTunes with your iPhone connected/plugged into your Mac.*
    *on the left side of iTunes where you see your iPhone, click on the iPhone icon. And on the window next to left bar you should see a row of tabs at the top and at the far right you should see a tab for Photos.*
    *Click on that tab and select Sync photos.*
    *That should allow you to sync your photos from your iphone to your iphoto library*
    hope that helps

  • Random test questions quiz results not working

    I have a project with random test questions. It's published in HTML5...Each time I play the project in preview, the test results are accurate and correct at the end...However after I have published the project to my site, all the random test questions are NOT accurately scored in at the end of the quiz...It's tells me basically I got all the questions wrong, when in fact the on each questions my display is clearly stating it's correct.
    If I move the question out of the random test questions and back into the main project...it is scored correctly, but once it's back in the "pools" area, it is scored incorrectly in the final tally as a random test question...Don't have a clue why this is...it's really been time consuming trying to fix it...and my fortune so far fixing anything to do with Captivate is really low! Buggy! I'm using Captivate 8, so have no idea...
    Anyone have any idea what is going on?

    So obvious I don't know why I didn't think of that. LOL
    Many thanks that works.
    It would appear that the only way to adjust the pause is to add time to the
    slide as I am unable to slide the pause back.  But changing the slide of 3
    secs to 3.1 does work.
    Is there an easy way to do this for ALL slides or do I just have to  do it
    one by one.
    Again many thanks

  • 2 Leopard questions

    Hey, I have 2 Leopard questions...
    1. How does Time Machine restore deleted files when they are cleaned off your computer. Are the files not fully deleted off the HD?
    2. When Leopard comes out, will I be able to migrate all my settings/files over to Leopard from Tiger?
    Thanks a lot!

    Asking about an OS that isn't out, complete, still in development, and... anyone that actually knows is under NDA.
    Right now some features are probably just bullet points in a iWork presentation.

  • Random Security questions?!?!

    Okay what the ****, go to purchase some apps on my new ipad and it tells me i have to verify my identity so it starts asking me all these random security   questions that I've never even gave answers to in the first place. Now i have one try left and I'm looked out. Really apple?

    We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
    If you log into your account via http://appleid.apple.com and select the Password And Security section are you able to set them ? If not then is there a reset link underneath the questions (the link will only show if you have a rescue email address on your account) ?
    If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
    When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down this page to add a rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312

  • Randomized Quiz Questions in CP7: Back button goes forward

    I've checked my on enter and on exit fields. Not sure why, but my randomized quiz questions' back buttons go forward. Very odd. Is there a setting I should check?
    It is worth noting that the back button is clearly not the forward button... checked in properties.
    Also, I need the student to be able to reanswer this question until they get it right, at which time the question stays answered.

    Yes sir. Thanks for the reply, Rod. I was hoping you were on =)
    I buy pretty much all of your stuff... went through the whole troubleshooting guide.
    Just noticed that "Branch Aware" is on, and it is a linear lesson. Going to try turning that off.

  • Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard question

    Hello,
    I just preordered Snow Leopard from Amazon for my Early 2008 white MacBook, I know the system is not released yet but I'd like to ask a general question about Mac operating systems.
    Once I get Snow Leopard, do you recommend me to update my current 10.5.8 Leopard OS or do you recommend me to do a erase and install to my actual OS?
    I'm asking this because I didn't have a Mac yet when the update from Tiger to Leopard was made, and I'd like to know what did you guys do back then.
    I know in Windows world an update like this is unthinkable, it makes the operating system inestable, full of useless files and so on. Does this happen on Mac too, or is the upgrade easy, smooth and recommendable?
    Thanks for your answers,
    Mauri

    UndergroundRiver:
    I plan to erase and install when upgrading as I come from the Windows world and just can't understand the concept of not erasing and installing.
    Comparisons between Windows Operating Systems/machines and Macs and OS X are not necessarily apt. Even though we may not know exact details about Snow Leopard, we do know that Mac OS X offers several installation options, and the OS is designed to work within those parameters. In other words, an erase and install may not be appropriate or necessary under every condition.
    In terms of backing up, one is well advised to maintain an up-to-date and reliable backup at all times, of course. However, this is even more critical whenever one contemplates undertaking any major procedure, such as installation of the OS. If you would like specific suggestions about backing up, please do ask. You don't have to know where all the files are on your HDD. There are several excellent utilities that will do the work for you.

  • Setting project default file locations and a few random interface questions

    I apologize for the randomness of this post, but it seemed better than spamming a bunch of different posts in a short period of time.  I've been using Premiere Elements 9 for about 6 months now and there are a few little things that I'd like to tweak.
    I'd like to change the default file save location for a project.  I've got different projects in different folders and it seems like I should be able to set a default save location for each project.  All I've ever been able to find in the help is how to set the scratch folder, which is different.
    I'd like to change the default encoding preset for a project.  For example, I have a custom preset for mp4 under the mobile phone category.  It would be nice to have that be the default whenever I pick the mobile phone category.
    With birthdays and concerts and plays and all that stuff I have about 50 videos and a couple hundred large photos already.  Every time Premiere loads, it takes a few extra seconds to load up all of the thumbnails.  I hide all the videos and pictures on the Organize tab and save the project, but it never sticks.  Is this just impossible?
    Finally, every so often, the end-of-clip marker acts funny.  I don't know what the proper name for it is, but it is the thing under the mouse cursor in the picture below.  It used to automatically move on the time line as I added or deleted clips.  Somehow I clicked a button and it no longer does that.  After a week or so of not working, it goes back to automatically adjusting as I add and delete clips from the timeline and then it will break again.  Ideas?
    Also in the timeline, I now have this huge gap of nothingness on top of video 1, see picture.  My ocd says that Video1 and Audio 1 should be at the very top and the gap should be on the bottom.  Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    I kind of wish you'd have spread these questions out over a couple of posts so that we could answer each thoroughly. If I answer all of them in depth in a single post, this answer would be the size of one of my books! (which, by the way, contain many of the answers to these questions.)
    1. The default save location for your videos should be the last place you've saved your video to. So that should happen automatically. Although in my books I recommend that, whenever you start a new project, you create a new folder for it. This is good housekeeping and a good way to keep your tmp and render files in the same place on your drive, which has a number of advantages.
    2. You can't create a custom project preset. The only presets available are the ones Adobe provides. And, although they are pretty extensive, some non-traditional formats (like video from some mobile phones) are not well supported. You may be able to get it to work -- but it's usually a hybrid solution and, personally, if you plan to use your phone's video as your main video source, I'd recommend you look at another video editing program. Premiere Elements doesn't do the hybrid stuff well. It's ideally suited for video from traditional camcorders.
    3. The thumbnails you see when the program loads are not in your current project. At least not until you import them into your Project panel. That Media panel is merely a preview to what's in your Organizer catalog. As I explain in my book, it's usually best to ignore this panel until you really learn your way around the basics of this program. It's very confusing. Fortunately, it adds very little load time to the program itself -- regardless of how much time it seems to add.
    4. The thing in the illustration is the Work Area Bar. It's used to isolate a segment of your timeline for rendering, etc. Usually, it will shrink and grow as you add and remove video from your timeline. Unfortunately, there's a bug in version 9 and, if you manually change it once during a project, you'll have to manually change it for the rest of the time you work on the project. But, if you drag each end of the Work Area Bar to cover your entire timeline of videos, your project shouldn't misbehave.
    5. The "gap of nothingness" on your timeline is just room for you to add more audio and video tracks if you'd like to. It's a good thing to have! BTW, as I'm sure you know (and my books, once again, explain) you can toggle the tracks on your timeline so that they display as either compressed (as in your illustration) or wide open, which allows you to see your clips and control audio and video levels. Once again, this is a very good thing!
    Happy moviemaking.

  • MacBook with Leopard question...

    Hi Everyone,
    I am considering buying a Macbook this week. The question is if I buy it right now will it come with Leopard and iLife08 pre-installed considering that Leopard launch is just round the corner or will I not be eligible for it. I cannot wait to buy it and must buy it this week.
    If for some reason it does not have leopard installed then what do you suggest I do. I am in India where Apple support is very limited.
    Thanks for your responses in advance.

    Don't know the policy in India. In the US:
    http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/005700.html
    If you've bought a Mac in the past two weeks--you're in luck. Apple says you're eligible to get a copy of Leopard for a $9.95 shipping and handling fee. Ditto if you buy a Mac system today. According to Brian Croll, senior director of Mac OS X product marketing, Apple will be pushed onto PCs as soon as possible. However, if for some reason your system doesn't have it preinstalled, you'll either get the Leopard DVD dropped into the box, or you'll be able to order it for the same shipping and handling fee as users who already bought their Mac this month.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/
    Apple would like to give you the opportunity to upgrade to Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard. * Product Availability: October 26, 2007
    The program ends on December 29, 2007. Your order must be postmarked or faxed by January 4, 2008, so order your upgrade now.
    Hardware Up-To-Date
    Customers who purchase a qualifying new Macintosh computer on or after October 1, 2007 that does not have Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard included can upgrade to Leopard.

  • Questions are not randomizing in question pool

    I have 30 questions in my question pool.  I have 10 random question slides but everytime I go to quiz, the same 10 questions come up.   I need help in troubleshooting this, please.

    Once you launch a module and it sets up the specific questions that will be selected from the pool for that session, those are the only 10 questions you are going to see, no matter how many times you hit the Retake Quiz button.  That is normal behaviour.
    However, if you close down the module entirely and relaunch again at a later time, in theory you should stand a chance of seeing at least some different quiz questions.  If you are consistently seeing EXACTLY THE SAME set of 10 quiz questions even after completely closing down and relaunching the session again, then that would be regarded as a randomization failure and you should report the bug to Adobe.

  • Three tier architecture questions

    Hello,
    My question is in regards to using Toplink in a three tier architecture situation. If I wish to send an object A which has a collection of Bs and B has a collection of C ( A nested object structure with two or more levels of indirection). Is the best solution to have the named query be part of a unit of work so that even if on the client side somebody unknowingly were to make the modification to one of the entity objects ( a POJO) the shared session cache would not be affected ?
    This is assuming the client side HTTP layer and the RMI/EJB layer are on different JVMs.
    Some of the other suggestions I have heard is to retrieve it from the shared session cache directly and if in case I need to modify one or more of the objects do a named query lookup on that object alone and then proceed to register that object in a unit of work and then commit the changes.
    Also the indirection would have to be utilised before the data objects are sent to the Servlet layer I presume ?(That is if I do a a.getAllOfBObjects() on the servlet side I would get a nullpointer exception unless all of B were already instatiated on the server side). Also when the objects are sent back to the server do I do a registerObject on all the ones that have changed and then do a deepMergeClone() before the uow.commit() ?
    Thanks,
    Aswin.

    Aswin,
    If your client is remote to the EJB tier then all persistent entities are detached through serialization. In this architecture you do not need to worry about reading and modifying the shared instance as it never the one being changed on the client (due to serialization).
    Yes, you do need to ensure that all required indirect relationships are instantiated on the server prior to returning them from the EJB call.
    Yes, you do need to merge the changes of the detached instance when returned to the server. I would also recommend first doing a read for the entity being merged (by primary key) on the new UnitOfWork prior to the merge. This will handle the case where you are merging into a different node of the cluster then where you read as well as allowing you to check for the case where the entity no longer exists in the database (if the read returns null then the merge will result in an INSERT and this may not be desired).
    Here is an example test case that does this:
        public void test() throws Exception {
            Employee detachedEmp = getDeatchedEmployee("Jill", "May");
            assertNotNull(detachedEmp);
            // Remove the first phone number
            PhoneNumber phone = detachedEmp.getPhoneNumber("Work");
            assertNotNull("Employee does not have a Work Phone Number",
                          detachedEmp.getPhoneNumber("Work"));
            detachedEmp.removePhoneNumber(phone);
            UnitOfWork uow = session.acquireUnitOfWork();
            Employee empWC = (Employee) uow.readObject(detachedEmp);
            if (empWC == null) { // Deleted
                throw new RuntimeException("Could not update deleted employee: " + detachedEmp);
            uow.deepMergeClone(detachedEmp);
            uow.commit();
         * Return a detached Employee found by provided first name and last name.
         * Its phone number relationship is instantiated.
        public Employee getDeatchedEmployee(String firstName, String lastName) {
            ReadObjectQuery roq = new ReadObjectQuery(Employee.class);
            ExpressionBuilder builder = roq.getExpressionBuilder();
            roq.setSelectionCriteria((builder.get("firstName").equal(firstName)).and(builder.get("lastName").equal(lastName)));
            Employee employee = (Employee)session.executeQuery(roq);
            employee.getPhoneNumbers().size();
            return (Employee)SerializationHelper.serialize(employee);
        }One other note: In these types of application optimistic locking is very important. You should also make sure that the locking field(s) are mapped into the object and not stored only in the TopLink cache. This will ensure the locking semantics are maintained across the detachment to the client and the merge back.

  • Mac OS X leopard question

    Hey Guys!
    I am a newbie so please don't start jumping my case because I don't know some things. I am getting a macbook for graduation next spring. I want to get a handle on the mac OS because I have never used it. I was going to ask for OS X Leopard for christmas this year. Would it be possible to install it on a protable hard drive run by USB to a windows machine? In this way, The OS is on the hard drive, but I would still be able to use the PC's drives and such. Will this work. Any suggestions would help. Thank you.

    Part of how they make the Mac such a good experience is by having close integration between hardware and software. Rather than taking the Windows approach of having one company develop the OS and other companies develop drivers, and still more companies building machines and bundling the OS and drivers with them (which means that three different companies, sometimes, all have to get everything working together), Apple prefers to develop all of the software and hardware themselves (and they can control who they buy other hardware like graphics cards and motherboards), so they know exactly what hardware they have to support and make it work very well and as seamless as possible.
    Also, Apple makes a large amount of it's money off of hardware sales. If you could install Mac OS X on any hardware, people would usually buy the cheapest possible hardware they could, which wouldn't work as well but would cut into Apple's profits on it's hardware.

  • Three semi-basic questions

    So I have started creating my first Flex application after
    years of working in Flash on a daily basis and I have a few simple
    questions. Below is my code for my initial layout which consists of
    a 4x2 grid of squares(8 squares), when you click on any of them
    they grow to the full size of the window, thats it. My three
    question are->
    1. Do I have to create a State for each square to transition
    from it's small size to its larger size. Currently I have a State
    named "grow", which only transforms square1. Can you point to these
    states dynamically? I understand how the targets work, but if I put
    "target="{square1, square2}" it will target both panels. I can't
    imagine I'll have to create "grow1", "grow2", etc states.
    <mx:State name="grow">
    <mx:SetProperty target="{square1}" name="x"
    value="0"/>
    <mx:SetProperty target="{square1}" name="y"
    value="10"/>
    <mx:SetProperty target="{square1}" name="width"
    value="960"/>
    <mx:SetProperty target="{square1}" name="height"
    value="500"/>
    </mx:State>
    2. I found this bit of code in the developer pdf
    "click="currentState=currentState=='grow' ? '':'grow';" and it
    works great at returning the square to its original position after
    you have clicked it, I would just like to know what it's doing.
    3. Lastly, how do you swap depths or arrange items in Flex.
    In flash if I wanted an item to be ontop of another I would simply
    use swapDepths or set the depth to getNextHighestDepth. I'm having
    a hard time finding those methods in Flex.
    Thanks you in advance. Below is part of the code with the
    transitions and panels.
    <mx:states>
    <mx:State name="grow">
    <mx:SetProperty target="{square1}" name="x"

    borderStyle="solid" color="#99cc33" backgroundColor="#555555"
    title="square8">
    </mx:Panel>
    </mx:Panel>

    1. I haven't used states much so I don't know the answer to
    this one. Personally I'd probably have used a resize effect and a
    click listener that changes the size. If you did that I know you
    could re-use the resize effect and click listener for each panel.
    2. "click="currentState=currentState=='grow' ? '':'grow';"
    The syntax is a shorthand notation for an if...else...
    statement; it's kind of like a conditional assignment. So "x = a ?
    b : c" means, evaluate 'a' ('a' is a condition). If 'a' is true
    then "x = b", otherwise "x = c". So in your example it looks to see
    if the currentState is 'grow', if it is it changes to the default
    state, otherwise it changes to the 'grow' state.
    3. I'm not sure about this one, but I believe depths on
    canvases are dictated by the ordering of its children. By that I
    mean, the first child is the deepest and the last child is
    shallowest (or perhaps other way round). But I could be totally
    wrong...

  • Reporting Interaction ID from Random Quiz Questions

    I have a Captivate 5 project that includes a Question Pool of 30 questions and I need to only show 10 random questions to a user (all multiple choice).  I have this all set up and each question in the question pool has a unique SCORM Interaction ID.  Project is published to use SCORM 2004 and set to report answers and interactions to the LMS.
    When running the couse in the LMS the only interaction ID being saved is for the first question that is displayed from the pool.  No interaction data is being saved for the other 9 questions.  Final score is also saving OK.
    How do I get Interaction data for each random question?
    Thanks for anyone's help!!!

    Here is an example of what is happening on my random question slides:
    Here you see the roll-over boxes showing on the quiz screen (Static Head box, Stoker box, Muffler Box)
    Anyone have any idea as to why this may be happening?

  • Leopard questions - Permissions and "Custom Access"

    I just (reluctantly) upgraded to Leopard (only because I wanted to install the iLife 09 which requires 10.5.6), and then the Permissions fun started. Install went fine and so did the updates. Then I ran Disk Warrior (new directory, repair permissions, check all files/folders).
    I tried to read all the posts I could find, but none dealt with these particular messages, so I thought I'd ask just to make sure....
    2. I have hundreds of "ACL found but not expected", but all of mine are on:
    "System/Library/User Template/" and then there seems to be every language listed.
    2. There are dozens of "permissions differ on" and they all relate to Front Row (should be -rw-r-r, they are lrw-r-r). I haven't even used Front Row....
    Can I safely ignore all of those?
    And, while I'm asking questions:
    Is the "You have custom access" showing in any Get Info window of any application a Leopard "feature" or what does it mean? When I first checked, I found that several apps (part of OS or third party) did not have me, the admin, with "read & write" access. Some had "read only" and some "no access", but all of them showed the custom access. I went through all the apps and made them "read & write", but the custom access remains. These are apps I use quite often such as Graphic Converter.
    Can I ignore the "custom access" or do I need to do something about it?

    Ignore per Mac OS X 10.5- Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore. They are innocuous and will recur each time you repair permissions.

    These are the result of upgrading instead of doing a fresh install of Leopard. They are basically harmless. Such errors in your Home folder can be repaired using the Reset Password selection from the Utilities menu after booting from the Leopard installer DVD. Check the bottom option to Reset ACLs and click the button. Do not make any other selections. This only affects ACLs in the Home folder. To fix all such items means you have to perform an Archive and Install of Leopard then run the 10.5.8 Combo Updater. If you don't want to do all this then just ignore the issue.
    The Custom Access is the result of the custom ACLs and simply means you've upgraded from Tiger which did not support ACLs while Leopard does.
    In fact there are literally thousands of topics and replies on these two topics throughout the Leopard forums that deal specifically with these particular messages which is why Apple issued the above linked tech note.
