Throttle bandwidth per application in Mavericks

Hello. Is there a way of limiting bandwidth use per application in Mavericks? I use both wifi and a 3G stick to connect to the internet, depending on where I am. I would like to be able to limit the bandwidth for Skype and FaceTime when running on 3G so that video calls don't eat away my data plan. I sometimes need to make video calls with Skype or FaceTime, but I don't need a full HD resolution. A lower image quality would be perfectly fine, as long as the sound remains clear. So I'm looking for a front end application or Terminal command that would allow me to cap bandwidth for  specific applications. I tried NoobProof, WaterRoof, PFlists and Entonnoir, but they have not been updated to 10.9 and LittleSnitch either allows or denies connections, intead of limiting bandwidth. I'd be grateful if you have any suggestions that could solve my problem. Thanks a lot!

You can use Ice Floor firewall and limit an outgoing port. That's as close as I've come to solving this issue. Since Skype and FaceTime use unique ports this would work in your situation.

  • Limit bandwidth per application

    Hi there,
I am looking for a way to limit bandwidth per application under Mac OS X Lion ; either with a dedicated app or Terminal command.
I didnt find any tools with Google or App Store : does that mean "limiting bandwith" is a *bad* idea ?
The purpose is mainly to limit iTunes !
    Thanks for advise.

I found a way to do this. It's a bit roundabout but it works. Rather than limit per application, you limit per server. For example I notice adobe creative cloud usually takes over my entire network connection when it's uploading a file to the cloud server, making it a pain to even browse the internet when it's sending a large file. Using little snitch's network monitor I see it's sending data to "creative.adobe.com", I enter that server into a program called speedlimit and set how much data it should send to that server. Fixed.

  • How do you change the distance units in the new Maps application on Mavericks from KM to miles?

How do you change the distance units in the new Maps application on Mavericks from KM to miles?

The scale in Maps follows your regional settings in System Preferences > Language & Region > Region.
Selecting United States, for example, will use English units (feet and statute miles).
There may be other methods I'm unaware of.

  • [svn:fx-trunk] 11575: Put default style declarations into one class per application or module.

    Log Message:
Put default style declarations into one class per application or module.
Generate all the default styles in one class instead of a class for each style. The name of the style class will be based on the application or module name. An application named ?\226?\128?\156foo?\226?\128?\157 will have a style class named ?\226?\128?\156_foo_Style?\226?\128?\157. The idea is to allow applications to be compiled with different themes and get their owns styles. Currently this is not possible because a global style in both themes will have the same class name, _globalStyle. Whatever class the top-level application loads the sub-applications and modules will have to use the same class because of the flash player first-class-in-wins rule. Now each application and module will have their own style class.

  • How to set per application settings

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/10.0/Admin/WSe61e35da8d31851842debae5134d0ab42ed-7f f9.html

The per-App mappings are missing the "/".  The "MyMap" should be "/MyMap", in both examples in #2 under "To set the mappings per application".
Originally it was blogged that "/" wouldn't be required.  But "/" became required in the final implementation.

  • Powerpc applications on mavericks

is there a way to run powerpc applications on mavericks 10.9 ?
i cannot run SimCity 4 deluxe on my mac. I get a message says PowerPc app. are not supported.

Contact SimCity Support and see when they will make an update to there software this is  not unusual when installing a (NEW OPERATING SYSTEM). This is not the fault of Mavericks, there is not a lot you can do until the developers make a fix to SimCity.

  • How can one use one specific security realm per application ? The realm-name attribute of the login-config tag of web.xml does not make any difference

    Hi,
I have different sets of users coming from different databases and using different
roles mapping for each of my web applications. I would like to configure a specific
security realm per application in my weblogic server 7.0 . Is it possible ?
I try to specify the realm-name of the login-config tag from the web-xml deployement
descriptor but it doesn't make any difference. The default realm is always used.
I also would like to tell the Weblogic server to use the default realm in case
the realm isn't specified or isn't found. For example, the default would contains
    my admin users.
Thanks a lot for your answer.
    Iz

I thik this is a common mistake the ralm-name tag in the deployment descriptor is used
just by the browser for display purposes (when it opens the basic auth dialog box) so as
of now there is only 1 active realm which can have multiple providers as Kevin pointed
    out
    Kevin Lewis wrote:
WebLogic 7 now ignores the realm-name tag (I found that out yesterday).
My understanding is that there is only one realm active at a time for a domain
(I would be interested in being contradicted in this).
However, you can have multiple providers in each category of a realm: authentication,
authorization, etc. Therefore, what you can do is key authentication, et al,
off of some other information. We have our users enter their company, for example,
and use the TextInputCallback to get it. You could also encode something in the
initial page, based on the URL they hit, or whatever, and get that back in your
    callback.
You can store that information in your own Principal implementation, and key off
of that in your authorization provider, going to a different database as appropriate,
or abstaining when a specific provider doesn’t have anything to say about a subject.
Anyway, there should be a way to do it, even if it's more complex than you would
    have hoped.

  • Maximum number of applications per application set

    Hello,
I know maximum number of dimensions per application is 20 in OutlookSoft 4.2.
What about maximum number of applications per application set?
    Regards,
    Hiroshi Yaji

Hiroshi - I have not encountered a technical limit on the number of applications in an appset.  As a practical reality, performance and system administration will dictate how many apps an appset may contain.
On a related note, you could theoretically have more than 20 dimensions in an app.  However, I have only worked with one client who asked (needed?) an app with more than 12 dimensions.  In that case, usability was an issue due to the complexity in submitting data to an app with that many dimensions.
    Hope that helps,
    Jeff

  • Can I rout audio on a PER APPLICATION basis?

Is there a way (third party software included) to rout audio on a *per application* basis? I'd like internet audio (Safari, etc.) to go to just the normal line out, while iTunes audio would be sent to digital audio out.

I've heard that audio hijack pro can do this.

I don't use it myself but check this post for example

  • [Pulseaudio] Set volume per application at start

Hey, I use mplayer as a wallpaper playing movies, anime, music vids, etc, but I want to start it muted, so then if I wanna watch I just have to unmute it.
Pulseaudio can control volume per application but I can't seem to find a way to define the volume level by cmd, except for "Master"

    Thank you both.
About the first one looks interesting but I really don't understand too much the use of pactl, I mean how can I get the sink number?
About mplayer is fine, actaully I do start it with "-volume 0" parameter, the problem about this is that it applies to every movie so if I watch a video with sound on, the next one will start again with sound off and I have to be "unmuting" for every video.

  • Is there anyway to disable "per application" volume control ?

Is there anyway to disable "per application" volume control !?
Keep it simple. You can leave per device  existing, but per application is a big mess.
I need to spend a lot of time to found why am listening a sound if I decrease all my device volume.
I really hate it. It is not usefull for me, it just worsens my experience with Windows OS.
I always used Widnows, it was much better when this feature simply did not exist.

    Hi,
It is by design,  I’m afraid that there’s no way to change it.
You can right click the sound icon in the right-bottom corner, open volume mixer or volume control options to change the settings you want.

  • Per Application Volume Control

The one decent thing I have noticed about Vista is that it has an easy to use per-application volume control. I haven't seen anything like this in Leopard so far. Does anyone know if there is a free third-party application that can be used for this type of thing. I have looked in Audio Hijack Pro but it is a little more than I was looking for and much more complicated than the Vista application.

If there is you would find it at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Per Application weblogic property file

From documentation we are able to configure weblogic properties file per
cluster or even per server to overwrite the global weblogic property file.
    Question
    1) Is it possible to configure it in terms of per application as I have a
lot of applications under that particular server.
    e.g.
    WebLogic --> MyServer --> Applications
    2) If Yes, how to do it & where can I get documentation
If No, what should I do?
    Best Regard,
    Sonny Cheah

Some things you can override in the application dd:
