Thumb Drive for QTime movie for Plasmas and pc laptop

I have a thumb drive that I want to make sure I can play on any LCD or Plasma that has a USB port on it.
1. Do I need to format it in any particular way for a quicktime movie file I want to put on it?
2. What if they wish to play it on a pc laptop?
I have a Macpro that has the QT movie file on it.

You should expect to use a standard PC format. Check the devices' user manuals to find out what they require.

How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done? I am trying to create a disc of player highlights for a collegiate coach, and I am using movie files downloaded to my hard drive from a DVD created on a PC.

No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either.  It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected.  VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  All of which cannot be opened or selected.
Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC.  Is that the same?  Thank you for your time and response.

  • I bought genuine apple os x lion off of ebay. it comes as a thumb drive. is that easy to use and install?

my neighbor gave me a macbook 4.1 a1181. it has os x 10.5.6 and wont undate any farther. i purchased os x 10.7 from ebay (genuine apple) and its on a thumb drive. is it easy to install and use? do i have to leave the drive in all the time for my OS to operate?

A MacBook4,1 is a Core 2 Duo processor machine and should be able to run Lion.  However, if you have the stock memory, 2 GB, it is not going to run well as Lion will use 1.5 GB of that memory.  It would be best to increase to to 4 GB or perhaps 6 GB, the limit of what the machine can use.
To install Lion, restart the machine holding the Option key.  When the startup screen shows you the internal drive and the flash drive with Lion, you will select the flash drive to startup.  You can then use the Utilities drop down menu to select Install Mac OS X, and select the internal drive to install on.  Then let the machine do its thing and install the new operating system.

  • Need latest protocol for preparing movie for web in X

Hello. The basic problem is slow start on You Tube. My general question concerns preparing a movie for the web; not restricted to You Tube.
In FCP 7,  it was export using QT conversion, to Quick Time Movie using broadband Med or most recent settings, choose H264, choose custom size 16:9 HD 1280 x 720p, prepare head for internet streaming by choosing quick start ,
adjust settings, and save. Then, Open .mov (usually 1 G for 3 minutes) in QT, choose export to web, transcode, and send 50-100 Mb  M4V or sometimes MP4 to Host. No problem.
When I open an .mov prepared in X, the QT Player no longer allows the same options as it did when processing 7 movies.  Am I missing something? I click export to web with the new system and it just starts in coding.
I appreciate the automatic features of X, but am having problems with both stutter start and a few more upload problems that I see as temporary.
    Thx.  www.youtube.com/user/edwardshaw1
    Any suggestions most grateful for.

Check your Applications > Utilities folder. That's where the OSX Installer moved Quicktime 7 (also known as Quicktime Player) when Quicktime X became the standard player. Your pro license should still be activated. If you don't find it there and you have a Snow Leopard (or earlier) installer disk, you can find QT7 in the Extras folder. Make sure you do NOT overwrite Quicktime X when you move or install QT7 (both are originally named "Quicktime Player" - but you can rename the older Quicktime Player to "Quicktime Player 7" before moving it into your Applications folder.)
The problem with MPEG Streamclip and other "third party" conversion software (like ClipWrap and Smart Converter) is they use FFMPEG open source x.264 codecs. Apple's H.264 codec is superior (arguably, marginally better... but better.)
YouTube will "respect" your upload if it's already done well (to their specifications.) Otherwise, their software will recompress it.
In QT7Pro, you settings should be:
    Compression type: H.264
Frame Rate 30 (or 29.97) fps  (29.97 is the "true" 30...) [Even if your project is 720/60p - YT wants 30]
    Keyframes: Automatic
    Frame Reordering : OFF!
Data Rate: (I'll get back to this)
Optimized for: Streaming (only allowed with Best Quality encoding setting)
Quality: (if you specify a data rate, you only can use "High" -- and you *should* specify a data rate)
    Encoding: Best Quality (Multi-pass)
    Audio:
    Format: AAC
Channels: Stereo (don't think it matters)
    Rate: 44.1KHz
    [show advanced settings]
Render settings (doesn't matter - normal is fine)
    MPEG-4 AAC Encoder Settings:
I use Variable bit rate ; Sound Quality at 128 - 160kbps (about 2/3's to Best on the slider)
(you can use a constant bit rate - i think YT allows up to about 192kbps, but I don't "push it")
If you fall within these parameters, YT is not likely to futz with your vid, you'll get what you put up.
    Now, for the Data Rates:
For 1080/30p (29.97p) I've found that 4Mbits/sec is adequate for most video (most of mine are tutorials). If you have sections of your video that have something like trees blowing in the wind shot against a bright blue sky -- you will definitely need a much higher data rate (check your transitions too, they can be subject to some nasty blocking/artifacting when highly compressed). To figure out how much, take a 5 second clip* of the highest action and transcode it at - start at 12.5Mbits/sec (or 12,500 kbits/sec) - and see if you notice any "blocking" - if you do, crank up the data rate another 500-1000kbits/sec (or more if it's pretty bad). If you don't — try optimizing your compression by reducing the data rate until blocking appears. You shouldn't need to exceed 18Mbits/sec... Upload your 5 sec clip to youtube and see if it works out okay. If so, just delete it. Transcode your video to those specs and upload to youtube. Remember your settings - they'll serve you well.
    For 720 video, 3200kbits/sec is a good starting point.  480 - 1500 kbits/sec. and so on...
Bandwidth (aka data rate) is **key** to good video. The more compressed your video is, the more YT likes it. The more YT likes your video, the more likely they'll leave it alone and just pass it straight through. (I have seen them pass through data rates up to 18Mbits/sec. Just follow their rules.)
[*In Quicktime 7 Pro, you can set an in and out point anywhere in your video by typing 'i' for the in point and 'o' for the out. Copy (Command-C) the selection. Command N to create a new player and paste - and you have your 5 (or whatever) second clip.]

  • Optimum Settings for Creating .MOV for Web

    Hello,
I shot my video footage using a Canon XL-1 with a MiniDV tape. I then loaded this footage into Final Cut Pro (Version 4), running on MAC (Version 9.0), and then completed my editing. Besides creating a final 42-minute version to be shown on television, I would like to break up this 42-minute version into three separate pieces (a 21-minute, an 11-minute, and a 10-minute slice) for Web/Internet delivery.
To do this, I will create three separate .MOV files; however, I would like to know the 'OPTIMUM' configuration Final Cut Pro settings/considerations before creating these .MOVs for optimum audio/video quality when shown on a website. By the way, after I produce these .MOV files, I plan to encode them using FlixPro's ON2 V6 Codec to finally produce Flash 8 .FLV files for uploading to my web server.
Any and all advice regarding optimum Final Cut pro settings/considerations before creating these .MOVs would be aprreciated immensely!

Thank you for your reply. I take it then that current default settings are OK.

  • HELP - Choose mid specs laptop for video editing in Premiere and After Effects

    Hello there,
Basically I have DSLR Camera (Canon 600D) which I use to film in Full HD (1080P 50fps) for my movies (short plays and medium plays).
So, I am thinking to buy a laptop with main porpouse to edit my videos in Premiere CS6 and After Effects CS6 and I would like to ask you guys if you can help me choose one. Maximum I could spend is 1000€.
So, I don't care how much time my laptop will take to export movies, but what is most important to me is smooth editing ( fast pre-rendering). I know that pre-render / in software render uses Nvidia CUDA cores to acelerate the process.
    I choosed these two laptops:
    ASUS K750JB:
    Intel i7 4700HQ 2.4 - 3.4GhZ
    12GB RAM 1600mHz
Nvidia GT 740M 2GB DDR3 384 Cuda Cores <<< ---- can this one do the job done?
1TB 5400RPM <<<--- I am thinking on buying 60GB SSD extra for OS and Adobe Programs
    17.2'' Screen 1600x900
    Price: 799€
    HP Envy 15-j011sp:
    Intel i7 4700MQ 2.4 - 3.4GhZ
    8GB RAM 1600mHz <<<---- I could buy 4GB extra
    Nvidia GT 740M 2GB DDR3 384 Cuda Cores
    1TB 5400RPM <---- I could buy 60GB SSD extra
    15.6'' Screen 1920x1080
    Price: 810€
So, as you saw, Two of these laptops have 740M Graphic card. Asus is parcially alluminun, but  HP is totally alluminum.
Do you think these two are good for edit videos from my DSLR camera? As I said, I don't care how much time it takes to render movie. What is most important to me is editing smooth experience.
    Thank you!

Do either of these laptops allow you to install a second drive?  This ASUS G750 that I am using now does and it made a world of difference when I cloned the OS/Applications disk from the 1 TB 5400 rpm drive to a 128 GB fast SSD and installed a second 256 GB SSD (both are Samsung 840 PRO SSD's).  Without doing that I am quite sure you will be disappointed.especially with your media from a DSLR.  See the excellant article by Harm on laptops

  • Error during search for WM movement type (999   E  )

    Dear ALL,
I am try to reverse transaction 313. i use movement 314 but there is error message during creating delivery. the message is
"Error during search for WM movement type (999   E  )"
Could someone help me please ?
    Thanks & Best regrads,
    Saiful arif

    Hi,
Please check the reference  movement type  in table V_156S_WM for inventory movement 314 and for your case of qty and value update indicators
For qty updation indicator checked, you will have a reference movement type 3XX and not equal to 999
for  qty updation indicator not checked, you will have reference movement type 999
qty updation indicator checked means stock / quantity controlled in which case
check your set up in transaction OMLR , reference movement 3XX from above table should be assigned to a proper WM movement type 3YY
then check for WM movement 3YY in Transaction OMLJ which should have source storage  type maintained.
qty updation indicator not checked means stock / quantity not controlled or updated in which case reference movement type is 999 which has no maitenance in OMLR,  moreover it is no stock / qty and no stock transfers situation
If 3XX happens to be 999 in your case, then check for 3YY movement in OMLR and check for storage type determination for 3YY in OMLJ
Please note 999 as WM movement  is used for manual transfer within warehouse but not for warehouse movements resulting from IM.
Hope this should solve your problem.

  • GL Account Postings for Goods movement

    Hi,
I have a requirement to setup a account determination for goods movement for charity.
What happens is that at times goods are given out directly for charitable purposes.
This is done using a direct goods movement using 562. I need to know what kind of accounts should be debited or credited?
    kindly advice.
    thanks.

    Hi,
Generally it should be Goods Issue against Cost Center through Movement Type "201" (Here create "Admin" Cost Center and in Text line mention the purpose as Issue to Charity)
Else create Charitable trust as a vendor and use option Goods Issue --> Others (Mvmt. Type 502) and issue the materials.
    Accounting Entry should be;
    Stock Account - Cr
    Consumption Account - Dr

  • "An error occurred loading this content" problem for rented movies

I have an AppleTV 2 connected via Ethernet to my BT Home Hub router and HDMI to my TV. My OSX (Lion), iTunes and AppleTV software are all up to date.
Everything works fine apart from renting movies. When I rent a movie, it shows I can play it rather quickly (too quick in my mind, I thought you had to wait for a certain amount to download) so this is strange. BUT when I do go to play it it states:
"An error occurred loading this content. Please try again later"
There is no other error to inidicate the issue. If I do try later (sometimes 2 days later) I still get the error.
I tried downloading Hall Pass, The Eagle and The Adjustment Bureau, all were the same.
I can stream YouTube and Radio from the net, I can stream music, pictures and video from my iMac OK. Its only rented movies.
I contacted Apple and they basically told me there is nothing wrong with the content so sent me some standard troubleshooting links none of which help, and said to post if here. So Apple will not help any more.
This used to work fine, some months ago I rented a couple of movies OK. The only things that would have changed since then are possibly upgrading AppleTV software (I dont know if I did this after renting a movie OK), and upgrading to Lion and to iTunes latest software.
Would any of these upgrades, especially to Lion, affect AppleTV rented movies???
    Thanks

I have the same issue, to temporarily fix it go to Settings > General > Restart.  When it restarts the movie should play.  You have to do this for each movie for the most part.

  • Prepare an usb thumb drive, to boot windows 7 or 8 in UEFI mode

    Purpose of this post:
Prepare an usb thumb drive, to boot windows 7 in UEFI mode and install the system in pure UEFI mode.
    Why am I writing this:
I had a hard time finding out how to make a custom installation of windows 7 in pure UEFI mode, and avoid using the factory restore disks. After hours of research, experiments etc I finally got the point and found a solution. And I'm happy to share my research with you. I hope this will be of help. If something is not clear, or more information is needed, I will be glad to explain things further.
    History:
As most of you already know, BIOS was developed for PC in early eighties and has remained unchanged in recent years. But, since 2000, Intel started working on a new firmware interface, called Extensible Firmware Interface, abbreviated EFI. And since 2005 United EFI Forum has been handling the responsibility for development, management and promotion of UEFI specifications. Bigger companies like Intel, AMD, Microsoft and Dell have already started to bring out their products in accordance to UEFI standards which has more stable, secure and easier to use interface.
How does UEFI works (in a nutshell):
Once you power on the UEFI based PC, the Pre-EFI is executed which initializes only the CPU, memory and the chipset. This followed by Driver Execution Environment (DEX) where other hardware is initialized.
    Advantages of UEFI:
It can integrate various drivers this will not require to load during booting so saves time.
PC can connect to network without OS.
Also integrated drivers allow rendering GUI based control panel which out dates the old school bluish BIOS screen.
Not all the installed hard drives are scanned as boot drive is set during the installation of OS in UFFI.
Applications like anti-virus and diagnostic tools can be stored on virtually any non-volatile storage devices attached to a PC.
For a system to boot and install in UEFI the partition table of the HDD should be GPT (GUID Partition Table), not the old school MBR (master boot record). GPT has many advantages, can have virtually an unlimited number of partitions (windows will allow only 128) and impressively big partitions.
Since UEFI has a lot of advantages why not having a system install and boot in UEFI mode? AFAIK new Lenovo notebooks/netbooks are UEFI capable and OS’s are already installed in pure UEFI mode.
So, let’s go now to the point. Do you want to have more control over your HDD? Let say, you have a 320GB HDD and you have divided it in two partitions, one of 50GB, for your Windows 7, and the remaining for your data. If something goes wrong and you need to restore your system to factory default, with the recovery disks, it will wipe your partition scheme, set the system to default and this way your data will be lost.
You may want to make a “vanilla” installation of windows from a USB thumb drive and avoid using factory recovery disks. Now here things get complicated. A standard preparation of the USB with Microsoft’s software (Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool), or other tools, will give you a bios installation, not a UEFI one. So for the system to boot, you will need to change some settings in bios, and changing it from UEFI to legacy bios. The installation will prepare the HDD in MBR partition table, and you will lose all the advantages of UEFI, described above.
Now this can be avoided, by properly preparing an USB to boot and install in UEFI mode. Here are the steps:
    Step by step tutorial:
    1.    In a windows computer, download a legal copy (although trial) of the windows 7 os. You can do this from here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river/
Be sure to download the same version that came preinstalled in your computer. For example, if you have a Lenovo x120e, with a Windows 7 professional, 64bit, download an iso image of the Windows 7 professional 64bit.
    2.    Once downloaded burn the iso to a USB thumb (at least 4GB) using Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.
    3.    After preparing this, create a folder on your computer, name it whatever (i.e. W7pro64bit). Go to the root of your USB
and select all the files and folders there (9 in total) copy, and paste to your folder you created, W7pro64bit.
    4.    Using windows format the usb again in FAT32. Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool, formats it in NTFS. We need a FAT32 formatted disk to achieve our goal. Formating again the USB in FAT32 will not touch the MBR of the USB thumbdrive. And after copying back the files (see step 6) the USB will still be bootable. (nice, and simple, isn't it?)
    5.    Now go to the folder W7pro64bit and do the following:
    a.    Browse to W7pro64bit\sources\ and open install.wim file. It’s a big file, and can be opened as an archive with 7zip (free software). Do not extract it, do not modify it, just browse the file with 7zip. Just to be sure you do not mess with that file, you can copy it somewhere else in your computer, and than procede.
    b.    Browse this file (install.wim) to \1\Windows\Boot\EFI\ and locate the file bootmgfw.efi. Do not move, delete it, but just drag that file to the desktop. (if you have copied the file install.wim to another place in your computer, than you are safely do whatever you want with that file ) Close the 7zip program to release the install.wim file.
    c.    Rename the file you just copied to the desktop from bootmgfw.efi to bootx64.efi.
    d.    Now go back to w7pro64bit folder and browse \efi\Microsoft. Form there copy the folder boot and paste it one level up, on the folder: \efi. It will look like this: \efi\boot.
    e.    Now copy the file you saved on your desktop and renamed (bootx64.efi) to \efi\boot (inside the boot folder you copied on step 5d
    6.    Now go to the root of the folder W7pro64bit and select all folders and files (9 in total) copy, and paste all those files back to your USB thumb drive. (see step 4 for more info)
    7.    Go to the computer that you are going to reinstall, and before restarting it, use the program ABR (activation backup and restore) to backup the license of your windows os. (use google to find ABR). Advanced Tokens Manager (ATM ) is great too. This link may be of help: Backup and restore W7 activation. After the program finishes its magic, it will create a few files inside the folder where the program itself reside. Copy these files to a new folder in your usb.  Rename it to ABR so you will quickly find it later. (if you decide to use ATM, the procedure may be a little different. But you are smart enough to figure out how to use it)
    8.    Backup to an external storage all your data before continuing.(reminder: are you sure you saved the license as explained in step 7, to a safe place? To a external drive, to another computer? If you are sure, than go on with step 9)
    9.    Now restart your laptop, and enter your bios settings. Go to the boot settings, and set the computer to boot in UEFI only. Not both, not UEFI first, or legacy, BUT UEFI only. Save and restart.
    10.    Press f12 (or the corresponding key for your machine) to choose the boot device and chose to start from the USB thumb drive with your windows 7 pro 64 bit.
    11.    If everything is done correctly, your computer will boot from the USB.
    12.    Follow the wizard and choose a custom install, not upgrade. At the disk partition window delete all the partition you see there until you have only one unallocated space.
    13.    Select it, and click next to install windows, without making partition in this point. The installer will create a GPT partition table not a MBR since the USB booted in UEFI mode.
    14.    Immediately after the first restart remove your USB thumb, and the installation will continue from the HDD. Wait until installation finishes.
    15.    When you will be finally on your desktop, on the installed OS plug your USB go to the ABR folder and click on restore.exe. It will restore your license and your copy of windows will be activated.
    16.    Now you can go in computer management/disk management and shrink the HDD to create your partitioning scheme. Make sure to leave enough space to your windows os. (30gb or more for extra programs you will install at your choice)
    17.      Download from lenovo.com thinkvantage system update and update your system. Windows update too can install all the necessary drivers, if you need only  basic drivers support.
Note: if tvsu will fail to work, see this:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/ThinkVantage-System-Update-Servers-down-the-wh...
It may look a looong tutorial, but once you do this for the first time, it will look a piece of cake.
    Final words:
From now on, you can install windows 7 in UEFI mode with your special USB without changing your partition scheme anymore. If you have a data partition beside your os partition (see the example above), when you reinstall the system using your USB thumb drive, at the disk partition window chose the partition where windows is installed, delete it, and reinstall windows to the unformatted area. Your partition with your data will be intact and the installation will automatically mount your data partition to the system. And, all the scope of this procedure, you will always have a pure UEFI installation of the system, with all its benefits.
    Have fun!

Thank you, as I noted here, your post was the key to my getting a Windows 8 SecureBooting setup on a W530.
In the case of Windows 8, I needed to copy the files away, reformat my USB key as FAT32 and copy the files back, and viola I was able to boot from my USB install media with the BIOS set to only boot UEFI.  From there, there rest was easy (for Windows 8, the copying and renaming is not necessary, the key is having a FAT32 partition on the USB media, rather than an NTFS one; the EFI files are already in the right location).
    Thank you again good sir.
You are welcome... and I'm happy that the change of the file system helps with windows 8 too. Thanks for confirming that.
