Thumb, jpg's and tif's

I have a question.
How do we export not only the thumbnail, and full sized rgb jpg for the gallery,
but also export the edited cmyk tiff from which the thumb and jpg are created?
Not only that, but we seem to be required to export that full rez cmyk tiff to a different server(via ftp as with the gallery), and have a link to it(the tiff) in the gallery, thus giving the user the option to download the rgb jpg, and/or the cmyk tiff?
So the gallery and rgb jpg is on one server, and the cmyk tiff is on the other gallery.
Thanks very much in advance.

Also noted that 260 dpi or there abouts is the highest export...something short of the 300 dpi our cameras are creating is the highest LP will let you do.

digital files do not have a dpi. They only have pixel dimensions. Your camera does not create a file at a a certain dpi, it just tags your file with a number that has no meaning whatsoever. Only when you print does your image suddenly have a ppi (NOT dpi, which means something completely different). For example, a 3000x2000 pixel image (i.e. from an old 6 MP camera) has a ppi of 500 when printed at 4x6", a ppi of 250 when printed at 8x12" and one of 166 when printed at 12x18" without rescaling. All the exact same file. The "dpi" field that photoshop sometimes uses (it assumes 240 if the number is not present) is to suggest a certain print size, but it is completely meaningless beyond this suggestion. The ppi/dpi metadata field in a digital image file has absolutely nothing to do with image quality or resolution. The only thing that matters are the actual image dimensions in number of pixels.
</pedantic mode>
You can select any ppi in the export dialog that you like. Lightroom will either rescale using this info if you elect to "resize to fit" and specify a size in inches or cm, or it will only write this tag to the file as metadata info if you do not rescale or if you rescale to dimensions in number of pixels. Note that Lightroom will only write this tag when you do NOT select "minimize embedded metadata"

  • Corrupt Screen Shots (png and tif)

    Hi
I and a few screen shots which I took some months back using the 'shift-command-3' key combination. They were saved in .png and .tif formats.
I opened them today to find that the .png ones were all black (i.e., corrupted) and the .tifs appeared in negative 'white and black' images rather than colour.
Any idea what's gone wrong here? Or how to recover the images?

The easiest way to change the format is to download the free app OnyX. In OnyX go to Parameters/General and change the screen shot format to jpg. From that point forward the screen shots you take with those keyboard commands will be jpgs.

I can't imagine any worse workflow than converting to JPEG to edit text, then back to PDF. Text in a PDF is a vector thing, smooth at all resolutions. And JPEG is made for photos. EVERY conversion to JPEG and back loses quality but how much loss there is will vary.
If you must go to an image format, try PNG.

  • How can I REPLACE original RAW files with JPG's and keep my 'Develop mode' edits?

    An image describing my problem:
    http://i.imgur.com/hcqMYkv.jpg
    (Lightroom 5)
'edits' = Edits made in develop mode.
'CR2' = My RAW image file format.
I have existing CR2's with edits for them saved in Lightroom.
I want to replace the CR2's with JPG's, and do nothing else. I want those JPG's to inherit the CR2's edits, but I DO NOT want the edits to be permanently applied to the image.
If I export the CR2's (which have edits) to JPG's, the edits will be permanently applied to them. I do not want this.
If I export the CR2's to JPG's without the edits, I have no way of getting the edits back and will have to redo the work if I use that photo again.
Any solutions? I've been trying for a while and have no idea how to do this.
Q: Why not keep the CR2's?
A: I am uploading these files to an online host (S3) as my primary storage method and uploading CR2's takes way too long with my internet speeds. Furthermore, online storage costs money.
Q: Why not shoot with JPGs instead of shooting raw?
A: I do my initial edits with the raw files and then archive them as JPG's to save storage space. They won't be raw anymore if I apply future edits, but I still have the option of retouching them from the 'original' state and still have my old edits preserved.

Probably the best thing for you to do is simply use lossy DNG format (e.g. export as, or convert to..): raw data is re-formatted with jpeg compression (full-rez or reduced-rez), but all raw settings apply.
If you insist on trying to have a true jpeg file with (mostly) raw settings, then:
The simplest way I can think of to do it without a script or plugin:
    * Reset the raw photo (consider preserving things that don't translate well, like profile-based lens corrections and white balance).
    * Export jpeg
    * Un-reset the image (e.g. using edit history or pre-reset snapshot).
    * Sync settings from raw to jpeg (note: omit settings that don't transfer well, or that were not reset..).
    * Optionally: Delete raw
To automate/streamline would require a script or plugin.

    Hi
I don't find some informations how to make a slideshow where I can use my .jpg photos AND my .mov vidoes - both are coming from my Panasonic Digitalcamera.
I bought PSE9 because everywhere is written that this is the right product to create a slideshow / Diashow... with photos and vidoes.
But if I want use the "Diashow" I get the information that this is only for windows player and all my .mov videos which I can play in the PSE9 are NOT in the Diashow.
Knows everyone how I can come further with my holidayvideo???
    Thanks in advance

  • System or Safari renaming .jpg to .jpg.pdf and pictureviewer fails

    Hello all.
When using webmail (on Safari 2) I ran into this:
File attachments using .jpg extension is being downloaded and renamed to .jpg.pdf when clicked on. The file gets downloaded to desktop and when pictureviewer trys to open it it fails, as the file is not pdf.
    Any suggestions?
    Yours Sincerely
    Martin

    Hello andyball_uk
Thankyou for your advise. I do agree that the problem on the server end and when trying to ctrl-alt click on the link I get a Download.php file. THe webmails Costumer service basically told me to f* o** since they didnt and wouldnt support OSX.
    But i found another workaround:
Since my OS is the danish version some translations might be wrong, pls correct if so.
Created Download folder on desktop, set Safari to use that as a download folder. Unchecked "Open safe files..:" too. the file now saves in that folder.
Created an Automater workflow who is to rename finder items from .jpg.pdf to .jpg. AND then open finder item.
Saved as accessory to foldercommands, applied the folder and voila.
    Its works.
Thx for the reply, I consider this solved.

  • Saving logos as jpg, eps, and png. What mode do I create each in? RGB or CMYK?

Question... My client has asked for their logo as a JPG, EPS and PNG. They want a file ready to go, so they can fire off logos to whomever for whatever purpose.
The Pantones are selected. My question, what mode do I create each format (jpg, eps, png) in? CMYK or RGB? Or do I create a CMYK and RGB of each for each format? (The more I know, the less I understand)

Wow, thanks for your input. I also spoke with a printer with whom I'm working on another job.
I think I've really over-complicated this, and here's all I really need to send them:
EPS: Pantone, CMYK, RGB (I have read EPS's are outdated, but she didn't have a problem with it. This way they can take the Pantone colors and try to replicate them as closely as possible)
JPG: Pantone, CMYK, RGB (per your earlier comments)
    PNG: Pantone, RGB (Web usage)
PDF/X-4: Printer didn't have strong feelings on this format. She said the EPS would be fine. I'll still send it though.
    Sound good? (I like affirmation)

  • IPhoto doesn't recognize .jpg files and can't open it. What may I do now?

iPhoto doesn't recognize .jpg files and can't open it. What may I do?

a common problem is that you don't have permission to upload those files, but it is an easy fix
    1) Finder
    2) Users(it should have the account name on it)
    3) pictures
    4) right click on iphoto library then click info
5 on the bottom of the new window there should be a sharing and permissions tab
    6) make sure you have permission to read & write
The only other problem I can think is that you are having problems with hard drive space. if so you might want to clean up your hard drive to free up some space. please let me know if that worked for you.

  • Problems opening JPEGs and TIFs generated in Lightroom

I have noticed a peculiar problem with some JPEGs and TIFs. If I have some JPEGs in a folder and I want to open it, on some JPEGs (not all, and I can't figure out what the criteria that makes it do this on some) the image opens in Adobe Camera Raw with the 4.3.1 JPEG dialog box. It then applies "workflow options" which I may not want to apply.
If I have a finished JPEG in a folder, I don't necessarily want to run it through ACR when I open it. Does anyone know what's going on here, and what I need to do to disable this? All I want to do is open my file. Does anyone know what's going on here and how I can turn off ACR? If I do command-I and check what these files are supposed to be opened, it says with Adobe PSCS3.
Secondly, yesterday I noticed a related problem with TIFs. I had processed 200 raw files in lightroom, applying various color corrections, crops, rankings, etc. I wanted to export them in colormatch to give to a client, but Lightroom does not offer Colormatch as an option for color space upon export. So I kept them in prophoto and figured I would write and apply an action that would open them in photoshop, convert them to colormatch, then saving and closing them.
Note that these were finished, 16 bit, color corrected TIF files. When I opened the exported folder of TIFs in Bridge, Bridge applied its own color and exposure adjustments, blowing out my already corrected and finished files. I could not find anything in preferences that would stop this, nor could I find a way to correct the problem in any other way. For a workaround, I opened a file and wrote an action that I turned into a droplet, and then dropped the whole folder on to the droplet to accomplish the conversion.
Any thoughts on what's up and what I can do? Thanks for any input.

  • Unable to make changes to a jpg file and then save it without the program trying to change it to a psd [was: What a Pile of Crap!]

Can't even make changes to a jpg file and then save it without the program trying to change it to a psd!!!!!  No wonder nobody like Adobe anymore.

Do you mean that PSD comes as a default option or that JPEG is not available no matter what?
Did you add a layer?  Did you change the bit depth?  Did you add transparency?   The JPEG format does not support layers, nor 16-bit images, nor transparency.

  • Dng and tif file with the same name, in the same Lightroom folder

If I have both a dng and tif file with the same name, in the same Lightroom folder, I can only see and access one of them. Is there a setting I can change in order to see both of them?

If you can only see one of them, which one can you see?
Was the DNG and the TIF imported at the same time?
How are you trying to "access" the files?

  • APA SE 3.0 turns some JPGs to jagged TIFs

After the first pass at pulling my photos up with Photoshop Album SE, some of my JPG files are displayed as very coarse and jagged, and I noticed that they are given names like "hpothb07.tif." They are useless for viewing or printing! Why does it do that? Is there any way to prevent or undo it? Thanks!

With all due respect, I don't believe the method of transfer is the issue. The camera is a Canon, and they were all transferred via Canon's Zoombrowser program that came with it. It has not caused any problems before that I know of.
When I look up the file in Windows Explorer I find that the file in question is an extra file obviously based on an existing photo file, and when I look at its properties, it is only 52.0 kb "size on disk". (Hence, the "jaggies"!) Further, the file (which is a Christmas 2004 picture) was created in June 2005, but modified in February 2005! I never mess with the file dates, so this is also part of the error.
