Thumbnail default

Good day
I have been using Elements for years, and in the past, in Editor, when I opened a folder of photographs (Menu Edit > Open) the panel that appears has always defaulted to a Thumbnail view.  Now suddenly it defaults to Lists - no matter how often I set it to the drop-down, 'Thumbnails'.
I have also tried re-settings: My Pictures (in Windows where I store all my photographs) > Tools > Folder Options > View tab > Remember previous folder views > Apply to all folders.  But to no avail !
How do I get Elements to return to Thumbnails as the default?  I cannot find any relevant setting in Elements itself.
Having to click the drop-down 'Thumbnails' every time I open a folder is time-wasting and extremely frustrating.  Please help.
(I am using Elements 10, and Windows XP professional.  Also use IrfanView, but there are no settings there that make any difference to Elements).
Go well
Nielen Schaefer

  • Disable Page Thumbnail Default for Scans

    When scanning in Acrobat 9 (Create PDF From Scanner), page thumbnails are always displayed when the scanned document opens in Acrobat right after the scan. In Document Properties > Initial View > Navigation Tabs is set as Page Only, so this is not a setting that is saved with the document. It appears to be a default action after a scan completes.
    How do I change the default behavior so that after the scan, only the document shows (no page thumbnails) ?

    Wow, this forum is helpful.

  • How do I set up a different default browser other than firefox?

    I would like my juno email page to come up everytime I open a new page but I can't seem to figure out how to change my default browser. Right now anytime I open a new tab the search engine is blank and it shows avg search engine. No matter what I put in the search engine after it goes to that page the search engine goes blank again. Because it keeps going blank it also keeps bringing you back up to it. So you might click on something and start writing and next thing you know you're writing in the browser again all because it disapears. It's very annoying. I want to get it off the avg search engine so I stop having these problems. I use to always have it open to my email start page so I would like to do that again or anything else if it will stop going to avg and it will keep what I ask for in the browser.

    Normally, Firefox will fill the new tab page with 9 thumbnails for your frequently visited sites. You can change that to the Juno URL if you like. Here's how:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
    * ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page ''you may want to copy this from another tab first for easier pasting''
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
    * If Firefox ''refuses to save the change'', check your Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, for something named Search Protect and get rid of it.
    * If Firefox ''ignores the change'', one of your extensions may be overriding it. You can review, disable, and/or remove extensions on the add-ons page:<br><br>3-bar menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > ''in the left column click'' Extensions
    IMPORTANT: Your More System Details shows a user.js file in your profile. Firefox will use this file at startup to override your previous session settings. This article describes how to track down and remove the file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Any luck?

  • I get a blank page when I open a new tab and would lie to have the thumbnails back - HOW?

    Firefox ver. 16.0.2
    Win 7
    I have tried the suggestions I find on the web.
    Your support page says:
    "The Firefox New Tab page shows pictures of the sites you visit frequently. Sometimes, some or all of these images are not displayed. We'll explain why that happens and how to get them back when it's possible."
    No I don't get any pictures at all when I open a new tab - It's blank, but I click on the following link:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thumbnails-on-new-tab-page-are-missing
    I click on the link to follow instructions and end up here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-tab-page-show-hide-and-customize-top-sites
    I click on this link: "The images of my top sites are gone - how do I get them back?"
    and end up here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-tab-page-show-hide-and-customize-top-sites#w_the-images-of-my-top-sites-are-gone-how-do-i-get-them-back
    and end up here:
    See The thumbnails on the new tab page are missing - how to get them back.
    I click on the link for information and end up..... were I started.
    So - Could someone be nice and explain how I get the thumbnails back?!
    Because I refuse to use IE, but considering Opera..... Please advice!

    You can change this in Firefox's about:config preferences editor.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter the desired value:
    ''(i) Page thumbnails (default)''
    about:newtab
    ''(ii) Blank tab''
    about:blank
    ''(iii) Built-in Firefox home page''
    about:home
    ''(iv) Any other page''
    full URL to the page

  • In the prior Firefox version when I opened a new tab there would be thumbnails on the blank page below tabs of web sites that I frequented- now the screen is just blank- is there a way to see the thumbnails below again?

    In the prior version of Firefox before I was encouraged to download the newest version... when I would open a new tab: on the blank page below would appear thumbnail versions of web sites I had frequented which was awesome to return to sites without even going to bookmarks. Now when I open a new tab it is just a blank white screen beneath. Is there something I can do to make thumbnails appear again on the screen below when I open a new tab?

    You can change this in Firefox's about:config preferences editor.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter the desired value:
    ''(i) Page thumbnails (default)''
    about:newtab
    ''(ii) Blank tab''
    about:blank
    ''(iii) Built-in Firefox home page''
    about:home
    ''(iv) Any other page''
    full URL to the page
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?

  • I want tabs to open at google.ca as they did before I got rid of the bing bar. Have gone to options and set it there but I still get the thumbnail page. Thx.

    Instead I get the thumbnail page which Id rather not have. I x'ed out all the thumbnails so only the google.ca one is there but it's not a full page, just a thumbnail. I realize I can enlarge it. This is not a huge problem but I would like it solved.

    Just to lay out the recipe all in one place:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
    * ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
    Note: as per cor-el's suggestion, open the Google page you want and copy the "final" URL from the address bar to paste in when you update this setting. If you use a shortened version, then Google will send Firefox a redirect every time, which is a waste.

  • Restore thumbnail tabs

    Hi,
    My thumbnail tabs were working great until I installed the Mystart toolbar.
    I removed the toolbar via add-ons but it still hi-jacked my homepage and page displayed when I opened a new tab. I used the '''About:config''' method, described here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/930367#answer-349504 to resolve that problem.
    The remaining problem is when I open a new tab, it opens to a blank page just like Firefox used to. I would like the thumbnail option back as I found it very useful.
    Hope someone can help!
    Thanks.

    A Reset is swiftest, but if you want to try something more surgical, you might be able to reset the "new tab" back to its default behavior using the about:config preferences editor.
    ''(i) Page thumbnails (default)''
    browser.newtab.url = about:newtab
    ''(ii) Blank tab''
    browser.newtab.url = about:blank
    ''(iii) Built-in Firefox home page''
    browser.newtab.url = about:home
    ''(iv) Any other page''
    browser.newtab.url = full URL to the page
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?

  • Browser opens to properly set home page. Tabs open to a different home page. what is the fix to get tabs to open to the home page I want.

    I have firefox 24.0 in xp . for some time i have been using firefox with no problems. and i think i recently update to the current version. went my problem started I think was when I tried to download a video downloader. my home page was changed even tho I did a custom install. May home page was switched. after much trial and error I managed to get the home page I wanted when the browser first opens. but when I hit the tab button some home page opens that I dont recognise. and it does that for each addition tab that I open. it does this only when I open a tab. I have read several of the related questions here but there a waste of time because I am not a techie.
    looked at the about:config thing but finding the right thing to even begin to look at was impossible. I dont recognise any of the thing in there and I dint understand how to search for the thing it said search for. this is the instructions I tried to follow:
    Chosen solution
    You can modify the browser.newtab.url pref and change the value to http://foxnews.com
    Also make sure that the new tab page is enabled, the browser.newtabpage.enabled should be true.
    Type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key to open the about:config page, just like you open a website by typing the URL in the location bar.
    If you see a warning message then you can confirm that you want to access the about:config page.
    use the Search bar at the top of the about:config page to locate preferences more easily
    preferences that have been modified and do not have the default value show as bold (user set)
    preferences that are user set (bold) can be reset to the default value via the right-click context menu
    preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean) or by double-clicking the line with the pref
    preferences can be created via the right-click context menu: New -> String, Integer, Boolean
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/about:config.
    what preference am I searching for? I tried searching for browser.newtab.url and came up blank. search for just browser came of with too many for me to make judgment on.
    This was very confusing and i could not figure it out until the asker came back and said it worked and something else that I cant find now. i think the answers should be dumbed down to where non-techies can understand. my problem is solved

    You can change this if you don't mind peeking under the covers into Firefox's about:config preferences editor.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste newtab and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and enter the desired value:
    (i) Page thumbnails (default)
    browser.newtab.url = about:newtab
    (ii) Blank tab
    browser.newtab.url = about:blank
    (iii) Built-in Firefox home page
    browser.newtab.url = about:home
    (iv) Any other page
    browser.newtab.url = full URL to the page
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?

  • How do I get new tabs to open up to Google page instead of blank pages

    When I open up a new tab it goes to a blank window. I want it to open up directly to Google. I'm very new at computers and can't figure this out. Thanks for any help.

    This is a hidden setting. You get to take a peek into Firefox's world of "preferences."
    * ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page
    ''Note: I suggest copying the full URL you want from a different tab. If you use a shorthand URL like google.com, it will get redirected every single time, which is inefficient.''
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Works?

  • How can I use a different web page in the tabs

    I'm getting this bing thing and I cant remove it and change it. Ive tried going to "about:config" and changing the browser url and keyword.URL but it wont change.. Very unhappy and thinking its time for a change.

    There's a hidden setting for new tabs. It is quick to change, even though it takes a long time to explain it.
    * ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
    Two gotchas:
    * If Firefox ignores the setting, one of your extensions may be overriding it. You can review, disable, and/or remove extensions on the add-ons page:<br><br>orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > ''in the left column click'' Extensions
    * If the change works but at the next startup is back to Google, you might have a user.js file in your personal Firefox settings folder (your Firefox profile folder). This article describes how to track down and remove the file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Any luck?

  • Tabs open continuously after opening a saved you tube video item. I then has to close my firefox to stop this. what is the fix?

    I saved some misc videos in My Documents. double-clicking the item opened Explorer. I don't like Explorer, so I tried opening the video with Firefox, and had to browse for the .exe file in program files. I ticked the box to use Firefox always for this type of file.
    on double-click or any other way trying to open a music video, firefox will keep opening tabs ad infinitum until I close it.

    (i) Page thumbnails (default)
    browser.newtab.url = about:newtab
    (ii) Blank tab
    browser.newtab.url = about:blank
    (iii) Built-in Firefox home page
    browser.newtab.url = about:home
    (iv) Any other page
    browser.newtab.url = full URL to the page
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?

  • Bug? Shape when I want a path

    I'm seeing some odd behaviour here. I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature
    Create a new document.
    Select the Ellipse tool (or any closed shape)
    Set the options bar to: 'shape' and set a solid colour fill and different coloured stroke.
    Drag out the shape to create a new layer.
    - so far, so good....
    Now select the pen tool.
    Set the options bar to 'path'.
    Draw a closed 'path'.
    I get an 'addition' (or 'combination' depending on the settings of the path operations menu) to my shape.
    In other words - even though I requested a 'path' I've got a modified 'shape'.
    I think if I specifically request a path I should get one - not a combination shape, even though I have a shape layer highlighted.
    What do you think?

    Good question, because by default the new tab page has thumbnails of frequently/recently visited sites, and a search bar that should match your default search engine.
    Here's how you can change your new tab page:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
    * ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
    If problems persist, some potential diagnoses and remedies:
    ''If Firefox won't let you edit this setting:'' you may have something called SearchProtect on your system. This needs to be removed from the Windows Control Panel.
    ''If Firefox lets you save your change but ignores it:'' one of your extensions may be overriding it. You can review, disable, and/or remove extensions on the add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right and disable (or remove) anything unknown.
    ''If the change works during your session, but at the next startup is back to Google:'' you might have a user.js file in your personal Firefox settings folder (your Firefox profile folder). This article describes how to track down and remove the file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Any luck?

  • Can't get rid of yandex as browser page

    when I open a new tab I keep getting Yandex appearing as my browser page, I have gone into tools, option, advance, general, typed in Mozilla firefox, but it still keeps coming up and in Russian.
    I managed to delete so far the tool bar which it was insisting I have, but cannot get rid of it as browser

    I wonder whether you installed some kind of special edition of Firefox because normally you would see 9 thumbnails on the new tab page.
    If this is your first day with Firefox, you could try completely uninstalling it (including removing your personal settings) and then reinstalling from the Mozilla site:
    http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop
    To manually change your new tab page, you can use Firefox's about:config preferences editor.
    ''(i) Page thumbnails (default)''
    browser.newtab.url = about:newtab
    ''(ii) Blank tab''
    browser.newtab.url = about:blank
    ''(iii) Built-in Firefox home page''
    browser.newtab.url = about:home
    ''(iv) Any other page''
    browser.newtab.url = full URL to the page
    Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?

  • How do I set what page will open up when I click new tab?

    I just downloaded something from the internet and ASK is now my default page when I open up a new tab. I managed to set what page I wanted when I open up the browser, but when I am in the browser and I click NEW TAB it goes back to ASK. Any ideas?

    You may need to remove an Ask extension. You can check on the Add-ons page:
    Tools menu > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions, then disable/remove unwanted (or unrecognized) extensions.
    The actual address for the new tab page is a hidden setting. To adjust it:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box that appears above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
