  • Copying large files problem in windows 7 x64 professional

    Hi!
I'm new to this forum and I recently installed windows 7 professional without too much trouble in my pc. The only thigs that doesn't work are the quicklaunch buttons (which I'm expecting HP to release it until october 22). The system is functioning ok, but I discovered a very serious problem when tranferring large size files (copy or move function) to an external source (in my case a external HD: model Western Digital My book 1 TB connected via USB).
When I try to move a file that is larger than 1 GB the system during the process gets slower and slower rendering my system useless unless I cancel the process and restart. This only happens when moving files from my notebook to my HD.
I've been doing my homework and I checked microsoft technet forums, here's what I found:
1.It seems a lot of people have this problem, in particullar the ones with an asus motherboard (which I know this isn't the case). But in my case since I don't know which motherboard my notebook has, I can't come up with a solution to this problem.
    2. It seems to be a particullar problem with the 64 version of windows.
    3. The users claim that the problem was solved when they upgraded the chipset, which I somehow tried but with the current vista drivers, but the problem wasn't solved.
    4. Some users claim that by using other software like teracopy or grant full permission control seems like a workaround to this, but no in my case. It doesn't work.
    5. With sisoft sandra I managed to get my motherboard from this notebook but with no luck finding information or upgrades to a Quanta motherboard.
Here are my system specs (link to the HP site describing it):
    Model: HP pavilion 6950la
     http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01470050&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&softwareitem=ob-55781-1&os=2100&product=3753762
    Windows 7 professional x64
I'm worried about this and it seems weird to me that no one who has tried windows 7 professional x64 has mentioned this in the forum (or even mentioning it), because I think this is a really serious issue and I would like to make sure it gets known and hopefully solved during these days. I really don't want ot get back to vista just for this. And I hope my post will be useful to the HP people so they can get around this problem.
Thankd in advance, will wait for your answers.

Please repost your inquiry in the Microsoft Windows 7 Performance Forum.

  • JAR file problem with windows operating system rare

    hi,
I have an application created with Eclipse 3.2, which also have a plugin that helps me to create jar files, migrate days ago all my application and my data base to a notebook that has a very rare operating system is Windows Vista, but is a version very rare and never seen, called oneAngel Illusion, and I think that that is not capable of running the JAR correctly, that when you double click or enter to JAR nothing happens, and I prove it on a machine that has XP and functioning properly.
I hope I can help with this!

I hope I can help with this! You should know, if you don't already, that your 'super rare' version of Windows Vista, sounds like one of numerous, illegal, cracked and knocked-off versions of Vista that have been floating about. Things like Windows Vista Silver and Windows Vista Sky are not only completely illegal reproductions of pirated copies of Vista but they often have terrible bugs and security deficiencies that can sacrifice the integrity of your data. Honestly, if you're already shooting yourself in the foot with this bootlegged operating system, just get Linux, it's just like stealing but without the unsavory prison shower encounters.

  • Compile source file problem using Windows ME

After editing the variable value PATH to,
c:windows;c:\windows\command;c:\jdk1.3.1\bin and saving file HelloWorldApp.java(from First Cup of Java;Sun tutorial)to c:\java .I proceed with the tutorial but haven't got a clue what command to put after c:\windows> (in the MS-DOS Prompt window I am now at)..in order to view HelloWorldApp.java so that I can compile.(I've tried putting cd as per tutorial but get 'bad command or file name' appearing on the screen).
    Detailed help very much appreciated!!

    If I may ask:
How new to java are you?
    I remember the feeling well.
If you have installed the java SDK and set your path, then restarted your machine so that the startup process recognizes your new path.
... probably done, since time has gone by...
Then saved your : something.java file to a directory.
You start a dos session and navigate to your :
C:\documents\javaStuff directory where you will see:
    Something.java exists.
Then you ask the java compiler to compile your code with:
    javac something.java
    which creates something.class
[look familiar from the first line    class something{  etc.
    then run the program with:
java something   [ it knows to only run a .class file]
Is this the level of information which youseek??
    Hope so!

  • File problems with Windows 7 and PS Touch on a GS4.

I'm using a Samsung GS4 and when I export a completed file from PS touch to my gallery in PNG format and then upload to my Windows 7 computer via dropbox they sometimes cannot be opened, does anyone know why? I'd be extremely grateful if anyone could shed some light on it.
    Thanks in advance!

Could you please us send the png which cannot be opened?
    We then will investigate.
    Thanks!

  • Anyone know if the long standing duplicate files problem with File History has been fixed yet?

There are loads of public threads about the duplicate files problem
with Windows 8/8.1 File History backup system.
From all the threads I've looked at, there seems to be no solution,
and no acknowledgement from MS that they can even repro the problem
(which surprises me considerably as there are so many people who
    notice the problem).
Is anyone aware of whether MS (may) have fixed this for Win10?
Are MS aware of the problem and if they're able to fix it?
Dave - with many GB of duplicated files in File History :)

Hmm, is that the attitude MS would recommend? :)
Why would I care what Microsoft would recommend?
Clearly you don't, and you appear to have missed my smiley. Calm down
Noel, many of us are as annoyed by aspects of modern Windows as you
    are. :)
I'm all about making Windows actually WORK/./
Aren't we all? Windows is software I use too many hours every day, I
along with many millions of others need it to work really well. You
    are not alone.
When they implement something that doesn't work, and even if it did work doesn't do what's needed - and/beyond that/ they remove features people DO need (such as the GUI for Windows Backup), I see no wrong in advising people of the way things
    really are.
File History essentially does work - it's saved me a couple of times
in the past couple of weeks. It just has a highly annoying habit of
creating 100% duplicates of some files for no apparent reason. If MS
have fixed that I won't have any known complaints about it.
If you don't like it, you don't have to use it. I generally like it, I
just want to see that its fixed.

  • With conversion to Leopard, file problems with networked Windows computer

Last night I did an Archive & Install from Tiger to Leopard on my Intel MacBook Pro. Today, I had trouble finding the other computers at my office. Once I finally got them to show up, I opened a Word file found on another computer, made some changes, and when I tried to save it, I got this message: "This is not a valid file name. Try one or more of the following: *Check the path to make sure it was typed correctly. *Select a file from the list of files and folders." Since this file already existed and I wasn't changing the name, I thought this was odd, but I changed the name from "Seating Chart 3-8-08" to "SeatingChart3-8-08" in case Leopard didn't like spaces when talking to Windows, but I got the same error message. Finally I gave up, not knowing what to do, then discovered that it had in fact saved my file. Still, every time I try to save ANY Word document from the shared folder of the Windows computer, I get the same error message endlessly until I choose "Don't Save."
When I try to open an Excel file from that computer, it won't even open; it says " 'File Name.xls' cannot be accessed. This file may be Read-Only, or you may be trying to access a Read-Only location. Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding." As with the Word file problem above, I did not have any problem accessing the files until I converted to Leopard.
The Windows machine is Windows XP using Microsoft Office 2003; I have Microsoft Office 2004 on my machine.

  • Problem with file permissions in Windows shares

Due to a company merger we are now supporting a group of Macs in our PC environment. These Macs connect to our Windows shares. This generally works well, however we have discovered a problem. It’s to do with the way our Macs interact with our Windows shares. When they copy a file to a windows share they take the permissions for the file they copy from the route of the share rather than from the subfolder the files are copied to and write the file permissions accordingly.
This only affects admin users who use Macs with the ability to change file permissions. Everyone else inherits the permissions from the subfolder as they should because their account can’t change the permissions. If the route and subfolder permissions are the same then there is no change. If they are different, the Mac will use the share route permissions as preference.
We have shares where users don’t have access to the route folder but do have access to other folders. This is so that they can’t change the top level folder structure. However they are able to create folders and files under the top level folders. If an administrator uses a Mac, no one has access to any files or folders they create because users don’t have access to the route folder and this is copied to the files and folders they create. This doesn’t affect our PC’s only the Macs.
We are using the latest Mac OS fully updated and Windows 2008 server. Is this a normal Mac ‘Feature’? Is there a work around?

I’m a bit disappointed by the lack of response to my problem. As Windows is the predominant file server in business, this problem must have occurred before.
Are Mac people really saying that Macs are not designed to connect to networks? At the moment our Macs are unusable apart from a few isolated tasks. Basically they are used by a few designers who work in isolation. If PC’s had this problem no one would buy them.

  • Problem with windows not liking any files named prn

I recently found a problem with windows not liking any files
called prn.html, prn.cfm etc etc. If you try and create a file like
prn.html then it will say "File already exists".
I initially thought it was a Cold Fusion error as I was
getting some bizarre error messages when trying to write prn.html
    using cffile.
Does anyone know a work around for it?

    Hi,
Not only "prn" but also for the terms like "AUX", "NUL" you
can't create any directories or files in Windows because these are
reserved terms with Windows which is meant for some device
    drivers...

  • PSE6 Thumbnail View problem

Using PSE6 in WinXP. Starting in Editor File>Open as>Camera RAW gets me to the Look in. On the right there is the View Menu icon which lets me select how to view the files in the Look in folder. The top option is Thumbnails.
When I click on that option the thumbnail view displays for a split second then PSE6 closes and gets me back to Windows desktop.
This behavior started recently for no reason that I can think of and it is erratic. Sometimes I can open a files from the thumbnails and sometimes PSE6 closes.
Really annoying. Can anyone suggest a solution?
    Thanks,
    Nathan

This seems to be working fine at my end. Are you still seeing this problem? Does PSE6 close when you double click on a thumbnail?

  • 6 Problems with windows 8.1

    Hello,
first sorry for my bad English. I have problems with windows 8.1 and it really annoying me.
    1) I can't change lock screen picture. It freezing for 2-3 seconds when I'm trying to change it and nothing happened.
    2) I can't browser files from metro apps. It crash and restart.
    3) Picture password doesn't work with me. The windows freeze.
    4) Facebook app disappeared and if I try to install it. It disappear again.
    5) Task manager sometimes freezes for 6-7 seconds when I close it.
    6) Randomly when I am using the PC, it will blue screen with usually the following error : Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_or_Equal

    Hi,
Did your system activated? The lockscreen picture problem probably caused by activation problem. For other problem, it is probably driver problem. You can try to reinstall computer driver for test.
In addition, If you installed any security software, please try uninstall them for test.

  • Shadow files on a windows server

I have owned a new Mac Book Pro for several months and use it at home and at my office. Setting it up at the office was not problem including mapping the drives on the server and access to shared printers.
However, I am becoming a challenge to my coworkers. Every time I access a shared network drive and work on a document (MS Office for MAC) or save a document I have created, my Mac leaves shadow files on the drive in the folder I have been working. They show the icon of the Office program I am working in but they are greyed out and do not represent the last version of my document. That version is there just as it should be and everyone call use it but these annoying "shadow files" are there as well.
When I look at the folder I have been working in I can't see these files but my Windows co-workers can.
    I have two questions:
    1. How can I keep my Mac from leaving these "shaodw files" behind?
    2. If there is now way I can keep them from being left on the server, is there a way I can view them and then delete them.
    Thank you,
    Rex

It won't do so by default, but if you click the light switch icon in the lower left of the EasyFind panel, a drawer will open with lists of file extensions to search. Just add the appropriate file extensions (wpd, wp [WordPerfect], wb3, wb2 [Quattro Pro], and db [Paradox]) to the list."
