Thumbnail images are mixed up

can i please just ask if i should be very concerned (or if i should start splitting up my library into one or more libraries) if i am seeing a lot of "misplaced thumbnail images"? i am seeing other image thumbnails on the wrong images and when i click on the thumbnail (of a different image) is see the image that it actually is so obviously the image is there but the thumbnail is mixed up.
i am seeing a lot of this today and i tried a search but i am not searching with good enough wording to get solid advice.
TIA

Yes, you are right to be concerned.  You should repair your Library after confirming that you have a back-up.  If the repair is still corrupt, rebuild the Library.
Since corruption comes from something, you should also check your drives (and perhaps your memory, but that seems almost vanishingly rare these days).
Library size is a red herring.  You can run TB Libraries with millions of Images.  Aperture is faultless -- afaict -- in its handling of huge numbers of Images.  (NB:  I don't know the actual limits.  I have tested up to 500,000 Images in complex 500 GB Libraries.)
Image size, however, can cause problems.  IME it does not (my personal Library is almost all RAWs or 25 MB, with TIFFs of 50-100 MB).  Léonie has reported problems with TIFFs that are hundreds of MBs.)

  • Thumbnail images are very poor, is there a way to improve them ?

    I've just started using Lightroom 5, and right after importing them I noticed the images are of very poor quality. If I try and blow them up bigger using the slider they get even worse.
    I've used Bridge in Photoshop to do this before and the images look great, so I can quickly look at them and sort the good from the bad.
    I can't do this in Lightroom with the quality of the image thumbnails. So how do you make the thumbnails better?
    Also does the camera MP size determine what the thumbnails look like? In other words If I used an 8MP camera, would the thumbnails look as good as they would coming from a 20MP camera?

    And what type of previews are you creating during import (in the Build Previews section of the File Handling panel of the import dialog)?

  • In PS and AI in CS2, when I open a picture folder, the thumbnail images are inverted

    I recently D/L installed CS 2 on my Windows 7 desktop. Thanks Adobe, it's great for me.
    However, when I open a folder in PS or AI to select an image, the thumbnails in the folder are inverted.
    Strangely, this doesn't happen on my Windows 7 laptop.
    Can anyone suggest a fix? It's annoying when I have many images to search thru.
    Thanks, Dan

    Does the file actually open in Adobe Reader or is it opening in something else (I would tend to guess the latter)?

  • All Thumbnail images are the same image

    All of sudden all of my iphoto thumbnails are the exact same image.
    This is just occurred after I got a message to rebuild the library.
    When I actually open up the photo in iphoto the correct image is there.
    How can I get iphoto to show the thumbnail as the actual image?

    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. This can take three or four goes to work.

  • Imported from cf but all images are mixed up

    I have downloaded LR for a 30 day trial.  I have succesfully imported images from
    compact flash memory card.
    BUT The images have not downloaded in order of the time taken.  I therefore have a jumble of different photo shoots.
    What do I need to do to avoid this happening again ?
    How can I quickly sort these into the relevant folders so I can find them again eg: Wedding one, two, three
    Thank U - Hoping someone can advise x

    Try changing the Sort order from Added Order to Captured Time when in the Library module, either using the View / Sort menu item up top, or using the Toolbar along the bottom of the Grid view that you may need to make visible using the T key.
    As far as sorting things quickly into relevant folders, what folder or folders on your hard-drive are the photos in, now, and do the folders already exist you want to move the photos to or will you be creating them?
    The way I move photos from one folder to a set of folders I create, is to select the photos I want to move in the Grid view, then go over to the folder listing at the left and right-click on the folder than is above where I want to create a new folder, then choose Create Folder Inside "xxxxxxxx", type in a name and also make sure Include Selected Photos is enabled, and then click Ok.
    If the destination folder already exists in the folder list at the left, then just right-click on that folder in the folder view at the left and choose the Move option.

  • Iphoto5, all thumbnail images are gone, only ghost outline remains, tried rebuilding, no results.  Does anyone have a solution?

    Can anyone tell me how to get my iphotos back?  Only a ghost outline remains in the iphoto library and all the albums, 19,500 images dissapeared.
    We tried rebuilding, but no success.  Thanks!

    Thank you very much - this is the solving of my problem. For any reason all my content was unchecked. So iTunes deleted music and movies on the ATV and did no synchronizing. Now it is working fine.

  • How to I get high res thumbnail images?

    Just discovered once I've imported images into my library Aperture 3.2.2 (running under 10.7.3) doesn't render high res thumbnail images (when the Browser Thumbnail Resize slider is set to the far right/maximum), even though my "Previews" preference settings are as follows:
    "Use embedded JPEG from camera when possible" is unchecked
    "Don't Limit" for Photo Preview is selected
    Photo Preview quality set to 10
    Deleting and regenerating thumbnails doesn't solve the issue. However, if I delete the photo from the referenced library, then reimport the image, the browser thumbnail image renders sharp. The low res thumbnail is at left; high res thumbnail (after re-import) is at right. Both thumbnails images are sharp when the Browser Thumbnail Resize slider is positioned in the middle. Photos render sharp in the Viewer, regardless.
    Going back through my images, it seems Aperture stopped providing a sharp thumbnail image since around July 2010. Other than updating Aperture, my workflow or supported camera hasn't changed. Couldn't find a reference to this issue in the User Manual. Am I missing something a setting somewhere?
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Its unclear if the command Generate Thumbnails actually does anything if the thumbs already exist and as there isn;t a Delete Thumbnails command like there is a Delete preview command there are only two ways to force a new thumb to be generated.
    One is to import the image again and two is to delete the Thumbnail folder in the Aperture library. I don;t know for sure if this will fix you problem but as I said it is the only way to force the generation of the thumbs.
    If you try this make sure you have a good working backup of the library. Nothing here will normally cause data loss but it is always a good idea before messing with the library.
    Quit Aperture, Highlight the library in the Finder and right click, Select show package contents. One fo the folders you'll see is Thumbnails, delete it. Open Aperture.
    Also be aware that the regeneration of the thumbs will take some time. Depending on the size of the library it could be an all day affair. Aperture is usable while this is going on but it will be slower.

  • How to display non-URL-based thumbnail images in JTable

    I'm trying to display thumbnail images as a tooltip popup for certain cells in a JTable. The thumbnail images are java image objects that have been retrieved dynamically as the result of a separate process--there is no associated URL. For this reason, I can't use the setToolTipText() method of the JTable.
    My attempts to JTable's createToolTip() method also failed as it seems the ToolTipManager never calls this method for a JTable.
    As a workaround, I've added a MouseMotionListener to the JTable that detects when the mouse is over the desired table cells. However, I'm not sure how to display the popup over the JTable. The only component that I can get to display over the JTable is a JPopupMenu, but I don't want to display a menu--just the image. Can anyone suggest a way to display a small popup image over the table?
    Thanks.

    Thank You Rodney. This explains why my createToolTip() method wasn't being called, but unfortunately I'm no closer to my goal of displaying a true custom tooltip using a non-URL image rather than a text string. If I make a call to setToolTipText(), at any point, the text argument becomes the tooltip and everything I have tried in createToolTip() has no effect. However, as you pointed out, if I don't call setToolTipText(), the table is not registered with the tooltip manager and createToolTip() is never even called.
    To help clarify, I have attached an SSCCE below. Please note that I use a URL image only for testing. In my actual application, the images are available only as Java objects--there are no URLs.
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.net.URL;
    import java.net.MalformedURLException;
    public class Test {
        static Object[][] data = {
                {"Cell 0,0", "Cell 0,1"},
                {"Cell 1,0", "Cell 1,1"}};
        static String[] columnNames = {"Column 0", "Column 1"};
        static JFrame frame;
        static String testImageURLName = "http://l.yimg.com/k/omg/us/img/7c/0a/4009_4182164952.jpg";
        static JTable testTable = new JTable(data, columnNames) {
            public JToolTip createToolTip() {
                System.out.println("testTable.createToolTip() called");
                Image testImage = getTestImage();
                // this.setToolTipText("Table ToolTip Text");
                JLabel customTipLabel = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(testImage));
                customTipLabel.setToolTipText("Custom ToolTip Text");
                JToolTip parentTip = super.createToolTip();
                parentTip.setComponent(customTipLabel);
                return parentTip;
        // This image is loaded from a URL only for test purposes!!!
        // Ordinarily, the image object would come from the application
        // and no URL would be available.
        public static Image getTestImage() {
            try {
                URL iconURL = new URL(testImageURLName);
                ImageIcon icon = new ImageIcon(iconURL);
                return icon.getImage();
            catch (MalformedURLException ex) {
                JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(frame,
                        "Set variable \"testImageName\" to a valid file name");
                System.exit(1);
            return null;
        public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
            frame = new JFrame("Test Table");
            frame.setSize(300, 100);
            // Set tool tip text so that table is registered w/ tool tip manager
            testTable.setToolTipText("main tooltip");
            frame.getContentPane().add(testTable);
            frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);

  • Video Thumbnail images gone - iPad 1st gen, iOS5

    After updgrading my iPad 1st gen to iOS5, all of my video thumbnail images are gone.
    The iPad just displays a white box with a gray flat screen TV icon for every video file listed under Movies or TV Shows
    This is most troublesome when I touch the TV Shows button and I get a page full of those white boxes with the TV icon - and, as has always been the case, there is no name for the TV show. So I'm lost in the white boxes trying to find LOST the TV show.
    Any thoughts on how I get my thumbnails back?

    If they are in your iTunes library on your computer why don't you try syncing again. Make sure that all of the shows are selected to sync along with the sync Movies heading and then sync again.
    If they are only on the iPad it might be a good idea to transfer the purchases into the iTunes library. Connect the iPad to the computer, launch iTunes and right click on the device name and select Transfer Purchases.
    If you have tried syncing, try restarting, resetting and quitting the videos app.
    Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    To quit the videos app - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Publish to Handout - slide images are blank

    My apologies if this is a duplicate post, however the search options never return any results for me.
    In CP5, Publish to handouts the resulting Word 2010 document the slide thumbnail images are all blank.  Anything I can look at to try to solve this?
    I've included publish options and output results images.
    Thank you for your help. Donna

    Hi,
    What are the objects that are present on the slide, and not displayed in handout?
    Also, sometimes it takes few seconds for the page to get refreshed. Just try clicking on the rectangles (Slide Image) and see whether the objects appears or not.
    Thanks,
    Vikranth.

  • Thumbnail/preview images are not showing in Facebook (Safari/Firefox/Chrome)

    Hello
    I've never had this problem before in a year of having a new MBP. The MBP completely ran out of juice for days to the point of the clock resetting (whether this is an issue I don't know), although the MBP works totally fine and is now on full juice.
    However, I've noticed that when using Facebook (which is important for my work / digital marketing), I can't see any preview thumbnails/images, which is really annoying, as when posting official work stuff I can't see if they are being displayed properly.
    Screenshot of the problem- you will see a white question mark in a blue box where the image/preview thumb should be.
    I've reset safari/firefox/chrome completely and deleted ALL history/cache etc etc and udated to all latest versions. All the usual troubleshooting stuff, but it's still happening!??
    Can anyone help with this???
    Thanks!

  • The Thumbnail Images of Apps are All Messed up and Have been for days!

    My Thumbnail images for the Apps are CONSTANTLY in the Wrong spot (Switched with another app or duplicated for the wrong app) or shows a Line Drawing of a CAMERA. Koi Fish is Half Koi Fish on Top and Camera Line Drawing on the Bottom. The ecurrency app, shows the Thumbnail for Glass Harp app. Every Page has at least two similar errors! I Have the Latest Iphone Update. It did it before AND After Update. I Posted a TwitPic so you could see a screen shot if you wish.

    This Iphone 3GS is My Second one. My First died in just twenty days with the "Red Sliver of Death" Battery Symbol ( Died Would Not Recharge). The Mac Store Replaced for free. ( Bless Them). This new Iphone is unbelievably Glitchy. Screen occasionally goes to a Very Dim brightness during use for no reason. recently Lost ALL Sound ( Mute Button NOT ON only worked with Headphones) until I downloaded the newest iphone software which seemed to fix it

    Before Anyone asks about the "Other Glitches", They Include,
    • A Sudden drop in brightness level that only restarting seems to fix. It will just drop to 15% of Normal Brightness for no reason. (about Once a day, about 15 times total)
    • The Camera Shutter works Very Slowly sometimes for no reason at all. I push to click, then the shutter goes into a Slowmotion movement and seems to freeze with the fins in the "Snap Image, Closed fins over Screen Position". It can freeze for a second or two. Stops you from taking another "Fast Shot". (About every 5th Picture or 7 times a day)
    • The Iphone seems to get quite HOT when Playing "Defend Your Castle". I'm playing at the high levels. Could an App make the Phone heat up?
    • The Iphone periodically vibrates for no special reason. Mostly like short pulses. Not a big glitch, just odd ( 5 times a day)
    •The Iphone mute button is too easily pushed BY YOUR EARLOBE) when you have the phone against your ear listening to a conversation.
    • About three times since I've had this replacement (About 2.5 weeks). The phone has simply gone dead and shut off during a call. It turns right back on and works.
    •The Orientation of the phone is off. If i start the Ibeer App or the Level app, it thinks straight up is around the 1 or 2 oclock position. Is there a way to calibrate the whole phone? Not just the Level App?
    •About once a day the keyboard freezes with a Letter in the Up Postion. When you Push the keys and that "Flag" letter Pops up.

    Open your iPhoto Library, go to that particular album and verify that you can view the full sized version of each image by double clicking on them.  Report back with the results.

    Hi,
    I've just started a subscription for the Photographers package, when I open PS from LR to edit an image, the thumbnail appears in the side bar but the image area is white, I'm sure this is a stupid newbie mistake but I can't for the life of me see what I've done wrong.

    Are you referring the the multiple thumbnails in ACR side bar?  I don't use LR  but I do use  Photoshop and as far as I know Photoshop has no sidebar with image thumbnails.
