Thumbnail or link to (iPhoto) images

I'm working on a project in Pages with the notes template. It's really useful to pagebreak > specify the subject and > add notes. I want to include lots of images but it's too much effort to insert and resize them. I don't want to waste time on the layout and have them inconveniently jump or push around. I just want them to be there along with the notes.
A small thumbnail would be great, maybe have it expand if you hover over or click it. Else IMG_1892, IMG_1903 etc would be the alternative, though more of a pain to look back. I import most of my research to iPhoto, it'd be great to drag 'n drop it into pages in the aforementioned format. Is this possible?

Get acquainted with Format ▸ Advanced ▸ Define as Media Placeholder.
The following is a new document based on the Notes template in Pages v5.2.2 (what was handy). I inserted a random image from the toolbar media icon, selected the Arrange tab, and set Wrap to None, so that I could move the image around. While in that Arrange tab, I proportionately reduced the size of the image to what you see below. This was followed by the first sentence. I then duplicated the first image and positioned it. The duplication process retains the Media Placeholder setting. You can now drag/drop images into these existing images and they will automatically adjust to fit in the available view. One can also right-click on one of these Media Placeholder images, and choose Replace Image… from the contextual menu.
Once you have this configured to taste, you can then first save it as a Pages document, and then Save as Template. You now have your own custom Notes template with thumbnail image support.

IPhoto images missing in Edit window after importing iPhoto albums folder

A friend of mine with new macbook tried to import her iPhoto images from an external hardrive. She move it to her user photo album and then i believe she tried to point to it after launching iphoto. She told me there were some options windows popping up and she does not remember what they said but the current result is that many of her photos do not appear when she clicks on the thumb nails to edit them: said there is a grey field with a questin mark.
My thought was to somehow repoint to the file or dump the .plst file.
Any ideas?

The question mark shows up when the link between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window loses the location of the file it points to.
The most common cause of this is User activity in the iPhoto Library Folder. It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.
As your friend now sees.
Unless your friend nows exactly what changes she has made, I'm afraid the best way to fix this is to start again, importing from your originals folder.

"Loading iPhoto images..."

I tried a search, but there were simply too many mildly related uploading issues to read through them all, and none of those that I did skim seemed to match my problem exactly. I am currently running a Macbook Pro with OS X 10.9.4 and iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2. The problem occurs every time I try to upload photos online. I'll use Facebook as an example but I'm fairly certain the issue occurs everywhere. When attempting an upload on Facebook, clicking the "Add photos" button opens a "Select file(s)..." window. Clicking on "Media/Photos" then narrows the options to "iPhoto." This is where the process stalls every time. Below that pane is another that simply lists "Loading iPhoto images..." I get a spinning progress wheel in the upper right (the black and white version) that continues to move so there doesn't seem to be a complete stall or freeze, but nothing else seems to happen. Now, I haven't let the thing run all day, or even more than 5 or 10 minutes, but I shouldn't have to, should I? Hope that's sufficient information. Any ideas or help would be much appreciated. It's gotten frustrating.

The only way to test a back up is to restore it. The browsing feature will at most tell you that some thumbnails are present and no more with any certainty.
The issue you describe sounds like it's related to the sharing mechanism, and a reinstall of the OS will fix it.
When your new machine arrives:
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

Image preview not working with 3rd party photo apps in iPhoto/Image Capture

I haven't had a problem until recently with the iPhone 4. Pictures taken with third party photo apps such as Shake It Photo or Hipstamatic no longer generate a thumbnail preview in either iPhoto or Image Capture. It's just a generic jpg icon. All pictures taken with Apple's camera app appear just fine. I also had a problem where I couldn't import any of the photos, but I restarted the phone a couple times and that seemed to fix the importing issue, but not the thumbnail preview issue. This is particularly weird because i've been importing pictures since the first day this phone came out, and it's only been doing this since yesterday.
I know a lot of people are having problems getting their iPhoto to recognize the phone at all or that there are photos on the phone, but is anyone else having the same problem as me? Any solutions? I have iPhoto 8.1.2.

I have this issue but didn't recognize it until I read your post. I thought it was 2 bad photos.
I'll subscribe to this tread to see if anyone comes up with a fix.

IMovie 11 not importing iPhoto images

Hi!
Since installing iLife 11 I can no longer import iPhoto images into my iMovie projects. Here's the detail:
I select a photo from my iPhoto collection using the multimedia navigator in the bottom right-hand corner of iMovie. I drag an icon of the photo into my iMovie project. The icon appears a few seconds later in the project. But when I play the project, the photo is not shown, the previous sequence freezes for the duration of the time that the image was meant to appear. What's wrong?
Similarly, the iMovie function which is supposed to identify iPhoto images corresponding to the event I am working on, does not work.
I have an Intel iMac and the latest versions of Snow Leopard, iMovie and iPhoto (version iLife 11).
I am naively shocked that two iLife programmes do not interact seamlessly.

John - that's an excellent workaround which I've used on the odd occasion. But be aware that if you subsequently move the image from the Desktop to another location, the project may lose track of it (the project links to the image file). But if you do the same after moving the image, Reveal in Finder doesn't work, that is, nothing happens. The image may still be viewable in the project, but I'm not sure that it will always remain that way.
What I do with problem images in iPhoto is drag them to the Desktop, then open in Preview. From Preview I then Save As a jpeg file (even though it may already be in jpeg format). Finally, I re-import the saved image to iPhoto and use that image in iMovie - secure in the knowledge that I'm unlikely to move it again once stored in iPhoto. Re-saving images in Preview seems to help when they are not playing well with iMovie (or iPhoto for that matter).

Linking to Recorset Image

I have a catalogue of goods set up on a webpage. The goods
are displayed through a database and recordsets filter the goods
into the appropriate sections. I am now looking to make the image
so that you can view a bigger picture in a new window. Obviously I
know how to link to an image of the same size, but how do i like to
one that is bigger (as I would need to put the link as the
recordset criteria ie
<%=RecordsetName.Field.Item("Image").Value%>. When i do link,
I get an ugly blue border around my images too - how can i get rid
of this?

Your database table needs to have two paths .. one to the
thumbnail and one
to the larger image .. then store the images in the
appropriate folders.
When you create your recordset, you will now have two columns
.. call them
something like "image_lg" and "image_th" and then set the
image source to
the thumbnail and the link attribute to the larger one by
making the link
from data sources and choosing the column that contains the
path to the
larger image.

IPhoto image description

Recently my PB G4 hard drive crashed but fortunately I had a backup on an external drive. I have imported the iPhoto images (iPhoto 08) from the external drive to a new iMac running OS10.6.2 and iPhoto 09.
The images moved ok to the new iPhoto app however all the event titles, image titles, descriptions, keywords and input information for images and events did not transfer. How do I restore the photo descriptions and events to the new iPhoto 09 app?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You don't want to import an library into another library. You lose all of the metadata, albums, slideshows, etc. and gain duplicate files since each original, modified and thumbnail file is imported as it were an original file.
Do you have a backup of the iPhoto Library package? If so then copy it into your User/Pictures folder replacing any library there now and launch iPhoto.

Can anyone help with the code for this. I need to add a link
to each image as it appear in the spry photo gallery. Each link
would be different and set in the xml file can some one help
please. I can't figure this one out.

Downsize iPhoto images & export them to a folder using Automator?

Please bear with me. I wasn't sure where to post this since I can't find an Automator string in the Discussions window. This is what I'd like to do. I'm making web site using iWeb and I love it. However, when dragging and dropping images into iWeb from the iPhoto media browser, it imports the original iPhoto image into iWeb and not the edited one. This seems stupid to me but there it is. So as some have suggested I thought I'd grab and album and have all the photos in it downsized to 800x(constrained proportion). Can Automator do this? When i poke around in the iPhoto actions in Automator I don't see much. I've searched AutomatorWorld also and can't find anything there. Am I being dim about this?

I can't help you with Automator, but there is an Automator forum under the Mac OS X 10.4 folder, where I'm sure they'll help.

It is not a bug, you might be using IE in Windows server 2012 and and browser might be restricting your site actions to respond properly.
Check this in a different browser or access site in a differ OS.

Sorry for the basic question but I am totally new to Flex. I
try to find how to do this simple HTML code in Flex - without using

I upgraded to Maverick O/S and I can no longer right click on iPhoto images to find my photo files. My photo files are not where they were before upgrade.

Select your image and in the hyperlinks tool on the toolbar simply type in your site address you want to link to. be sure to include the http:// before the domain name.

Insert Link and Insert Image broken in Chrome

The Insert Link and Insert Image buttons have been broken in my Chrome for at least the last couple of days (latest version, 32.0.1700.72 m, Windows 7 64).
When you click one of the buttons, the overlay window appears with a title, but it is otherwise black with no contents. (See screenshot below.)
The buttons work fine in Firefox. What hasn't helped: deleting cookies, clearing the browser cache, waiting for several minutes for their content to appear.

The fact is the customer is no longer the prime concern. Most companies don't give a Rats behind (toned down to prevent censors action) about the customers. It's the almighty dollar. Screw as many customers as they can while they can and line their pockets with all the green backs as they can while they can. Then if the cusomers leave so be they take their money and run.
Customer use to have power, they would speak loud and frequently and get things fixed. And what with people from other countries now owning US companies, That were brought up with different moral compasses. They have no concept of this thing of loyalty to customers. The customer can jump off a cliff and they will simply cheer them on while the do so.
We have lost, the fight can't be won. It no use. So Pat and others are right.
I've been trying for 15 years for adobe to fix the issue of having multiple Pdfs created from Office documents because the claim they can't figure out how MS does Page and section breaks. And the issue of Weblinks not being active when converted to PDF's Both on Mac's yet on PC's there is no issue. I quite this year after I received a down right nasty not from Adobe say they didn't have any interest in fixing the bugs and were not about to try. What it amounted was go take a flying leap.
They have the ability. They have beenblaming Its apple because they don't do such and such , or Microsoft because they don't do so and such. On the Links issue Saying MS doesn't provided the necessary hooks in the mac version of Office. They do you can take a Word document created on a Mac and open a PC and create a PDF and the links will be active. You can Open a Word Document in Apple's pages and all links created in Office document will be there. The argument has been proven several different ways to be a an outright bald-faced lie. The defect is squarely with the Mac version of Acrobat.
So Pat and others are right. Just throw in that towel. Adobe support of its customers is now 10 times worse than intuit's which is supposed have the lowest reputation of any software compny that ever existed.

Adding a link to an image.. Help!

I use Dreamweaver and I was able to add a link to an image on
my site. The link directs people to a video. The problem is, it
works perfectly in IE, but in the Foxfire browser when I click on
the image, a new blank page opens and then the video pops up on
windows media player.
In IE, the page stays the same and just the windows media
player pops up.
Why would it work differently in Foxfire?

The reason will be that IE has a setting to handle the videa
but FF is very
modular and so will not.
