Thumbnail shows wrong photo

Hi, there!
I have 5000 pix in my iPhoto 4 library and have been having trouble with the thumbnails showing the wrong photo. I noticed this first when a thumbnail was very horizontally compressed. . .and when double clicking onto it (to go from "organize" to "edit") it showed a different photo. The title is right and the photo is correct in edit mode, the thumbnail is just wrong. I think maybe a third of my library is currently affected.
I saw that someone posted a similar question a few months ago, and the only answer suggested was to select all the wrong photos and "revert to original" in the photos menu. I can't do this, b/c that option is grayed.
What I've been doing to correct the problem is dragging the photo to my desktop, then when I re-import it, it comes in with the correct thumbnail. (then, I delete the one with the wrong thumbnail.) A tedious way to do it, plus I'm losing some of my info, like the date the photo was shot.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Start iPhoto while holding the optioncommandshift keys until you're prompted about rebuilding the iPhoto library database. Click "yes", then the blue button. Go have a pizza while your library is rebuilt.

  • Syncing photos to iPad, showing wrong photos in every album

I have several albums in iPhoto that I regularly sync to two iOS devices.  Recently, something appears to have scrambled some the photos across the albums.  What I see on both my iOS devices are the albums from iPhoto I have selected to sync, but each of them (only on the iOS devices) have a handful of photos from other albums scattered throughout each album.
I have verified that the photos are not in those albums in iPhoto, and have taken the following steps to fix the problem:
Unchecked the albums from the iOS device in iTunes and resynced, then checked those albums in iTunes and synced again. The albums were duly removed from the iOS device, then re-added.  Again, the errant photos showed up.
Gone through the iPhoto albums carefully, selected "show hidden photos," and verified those errant photos are not showing in any of the iPhoto albums
Created new iPhoto albums with different album names, carefully moved just the photos I wanted into the new albums, checked only the new albums in iTunes and resynced the iOS devices.  This removed the old albums and added the new albums. This worked for the first sync (the new albums came across correctly), but subsequent syncs scattered the same errant photos back into the iOS device albums (not the new iPhoto albums)
So it appears something in the sync process is picking up some scrambled information and causing old photos to be displayed in the iOS albums which are not in the iPhoto albums.  But I cannot find anyplace to correct or rebuild those databases, or force only the new albums to remain clean.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

    iPhoto v 9.2.1 (628) running on a Mac Mini under OS X Lion v 10.7.2
    iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 (9A405)
    iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1 (9A405)

Found a solution, in a post to another user's question in a different thread:
Download iPhoto Library Manager (http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/) and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
That rebuild did what iPhoto's built-in rebuild apparently couldn't.  After it completed and iPhoto relaunched, I was able to resync to iOS devices and the errant photos were gone.
    Whew!

  • CDN shows wrong photos!!!

    Hi!
We use the CDN Service for a couple of years but we found a strange behavior.
We have upload photo on our BLOB storage , you can see it here ( https://cosmosstorage.blob.core.windows.net/original/1030020011001_2.jpg  )
but when we try to see it on this url , the server show us different photo (  http://images.cosmossport.gr/original/1030020011001_2.jpg )
We had waiting for a couple of days for the reason that CDN uses caches.
But the same photo persists , The think that confuse us more is that if we try the SAME URL LINK but in HTTPS it show us the right photo as the one that we get from BlobStorage !!!  ( https://images.cosmossport.gr/original/1030020011001_2.jpg )
    What is wrong ????

    Good advice ,
but unfortunately  we have try this twice before without success (remove photo from storage and afer an hour upload the new version again).
I dont understand why this happen on specific photos.
This CDN - Storage account have more than 40k photos.
The most strange think is that the HTTPS shows the correct photo. So i believe that is some miss function of CDN.

  • Why do thumbnails show incorrect photos

Why do thumbnails in iPhoto sometimes show the incorrect image and one I open the photo it is the correct one.  How do I fix this?

What version of iPhoto? And of the OS?
Backup your iPhoto library, depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild the thumbnails

  • Smart Collection showing wrong photos

I have built a smart collection that is for my photos without a title, but the photos with titles are showing up also. The condition I use  is "title doesn't contain words." Can any one help with this? Do I need to add other conditions? I'm not using any of the conditions in the "find bar" at top of Library Module. I'm trying to build my own workflow using Smart Collections.
    Mike

I don't have the option of "title dosn't contain words", my option is "Title" and "doesnt contain", i.e. without the word "words". There is an option "contains words" but not "doesn't contain words".
I have the same smart collection that works well. My parameters are like this:
You could also use lower case letters in the third field.
You don't need the first two lines. They constrain the smart Collection to a certain folder and image files that are not JPG.
PS. Oh, I see. You put "words" in the third field? That doesn't work. Then all images with titles that doesn't contain the word "words" will be displayed - probably all.

  • New 5s iphone shows wrong photos

My new Iphone 5S shows the incorrect people's photos w certain contacts
seems to be coming from Linked in but im not even using that App on this phone.
    help?!

Not sure if I fully understand what is happening, but maybe it is related to a quirk I have noticed with automatic time zone adjustment - photos taken on my iPhone (have not tried videos) show up in iPhoto as having been taken at a different time than the local time at which they were taken.  I am not sure this is an error, though.  It seems to me that the photo information is correct - for example, if I take a photo at 9pm Eastern, and then I import it into iPhoto in California with my Mac's time zone set to Pacific, it will show that the photo was taken at 6pm (Pacific), which is true.  If I change my Mac's time zone to Eastern it will show that the photo was taken at 9pm (also correct).
The only real issue I see is that iPhoto does not remind you it is displaying the capture time as adjusted to that of the device on wich you are viewing it.  It would be nice if iPhoto displayed that info and gave an option for displaying pictures in the time zone where they were captured.

  • Book thumbnails show full size missing

Trying to help rebuild some books created in iphoto 6. The originals are backed up but she has over 20,000 all with just numbers. The book page thumbnails show the photos but the full size pages show only a gray box. How do I find out what the original photo number is so I can find the full size picture. When I click on the page full view of the book the photos that show give me the info on the photo but the gray boxes give the generic info of the book. If I could get the photo number from the thumbnail it could save me hours.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
By “original photo number” do you mean the file name assigned by the camera - something like IMG_1234.jpg?
Click on the 'i' box lower left and this will open the Info pane which will tell you the filename of the pictures.
However, how did the book lose these pictures? If this is because of database corruption you won't be able to rebuild the book in the same library.

  • Does anyone elses iphoto thumbnails show the wrong photos in album ?

This is a relatively new problem i am having.... when i open an album and the zoom is over c.20% or you change the zoom the thumbnails show the wrong photo. when you open to edit, the correct photo opens. This is veeeerrrry annoying. can anyone shed any light on this ?

    Hi slipstream1,
I don't know why that started happening for you.
    Try this:
    Close iPhoto
Navigate to where you have the iPhoto Library on your hard drive
Drag the three thumbnail files found loose in the root of the Library folder to the desktop
Hold down the Command and Option keys while launching iPhoto until you get the rebuild window
Choose the options to rebuild the thumbnails
Hopefully this will fix it for you.

  • Iphoto shows correct thumbnail but does not show master photo or shows wrong master photo

iPhoto has been working fine for me for 2 years.  But yesterday I started noticing problems with the photos when scrolling thru all the photos in an event.
When viewing the event, I can see all of the correct thumbnails for the photos in the event.  But when I open the individual photos, some photos look fine, but others don't display at all (if I had added faces in the photo the frames for the faces show up on a black background).  If I swipe to scroll through the photos, the correct photo is displayed for less than a second and then is replaced by the last photo and gets either stretched or shrunk to be the same size as the photo that should be displayed.  If I view the actual file in the Finder, the master image looks perfectly fine.
I have tried repairing and rebuilding the database and neither one fixed the problem.
My software is up to date also.
I would like to export all of the photos from iPhoto to a different directory and just manage them myself, but I can't find an export feature in iPhoto.
Anyone having the same issues with iPhoto or know of a way to easily export the photos?  Or can I just move the masters to a directory outside of iPhoto?

You have tried repairing and rebuilding, but have you also tried to recreate the thumbnails from the same First Aid  panel?
Or rebuilding using iPhoto Library Manager?

To export your photos from iPhoto read Terence Devlin's user tips on this page:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iphoto?view=documents
The "Export" command is in iPhoto's "file" menu. You will want to export the original files and the edited versions.

I have had this problem also ever since I updated to 5.3,  I think it is a major bug!
At random the preview window on the left doesnt show the preview of the presets anymore when I hover them, and when I click back and forth to other images it suddenly starts working again, its a very annoying problem and I cannot believe that Adobe isnt aware of it yet!

  • When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app.  However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2.  I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2.

When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app.  However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2.  I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2?  Any suggestions for getting the correct photo to show on iPad2?

Update:  I was able to have the correct photo show in my email as received on my iPad2 by changing a setting on my IMac prior to sending the photo on the email.
On the iMac, I went into iPhoto > Preferences > Email photos using > Mail (in lieu of "iPhoto").  This seems to have corrected the issue.  I'm not sure why.  Now the correct photo shows up when received on my iPad2.

  • IPhoto 6 solution to missing photos in edit/book view when thumbnail shows

Hi all, since this seems to be quite wide spread with iPhoto 6 users, I thought I'd make sure that you all get the solution that seems to work for the following:
Problem: iPhoto 6 does not open your photo for editting but you can still see it's thumbnail, or the photo is not shown in a book but it does show its thumbnail.
Cause: at this stage, I don't know for certain but I have a feeling it is to do with other applications changing the default opening app for images (perhaps Adobe software).
    Solution:
    1) In Finder, click File, New Smart folder and set the following options:
Folder 'iPhoto Library', Kind: Images, Size: Greater than 100KB
    2) Then, when search has found all your images, select them all and press the 'Get Info' button.
    3) Select 'Open with' and change it to 'Preview'. This may take a while if you have a lot of photos but let it finish.
    4) Then click 'Change All...' and select yes.
That's it. Now open iPhoto and it should all work ok.(hopefully!).

I did that a couple of days ago. But after I while the problem re-appeared. I used Photoshop for editing, so probably that is one of the issues.
So after several times of trying this solution, I decided to go the hard way and export the corrupted files to the desktops, delete them from iphoto, and re-import them back. That seems to do the job...Frustrating, I know, but so far effective

  • IOS 8 iPad showing wrong iPhone photo stream

Just upgraded to iOS8 on my iPad, have not yet on iPhone. I have three questions:
    1) My correct apple ID email shows in settings under iCloud, however my Photos app is showing my husband's Photo Stream from his iPhone, which has a different Apple ID than mine. It is not showing my iPhone's Photo Stream. How can this be and how do I correct it? We have verified that the iCloud Apple ID settings are correct on all devices.
    2) I am afraid to upgrade my iPhone to iOS8 because I do not want to completely lose my Photo Stream, since my iPad switched to accessing the wrong Photo Stream. Will that happen as well?
    3) I would like to use iCloud Photos Library (Beta) but when I hit the switch I get this message: "Photos synced from iTunes will be removed. Syncing photos via iTunes is not supported." What photos is it referring to? How do I avoid losing those?

If you don't see the AirPlay icon in Control Center:
    1. Turn off router, Apple TV and iPad
    2. Turn on router and then wait 30 seconds for it to complete start-up process
    3. Turn on Apple TV and then wait 30 seconds for it to complete start-up process
    4. Turn on iPad and test AirPlay

  • Thumbnails are visible, photo's show black screen

I use iPhoto now for about 4 weeks. In the beginning everything went perfect. After loading the photo's I could see the thumbnails. Clicking on the thumbnail lifted the photo ready to be modified.
Since today, the new added photo's are still visible as thumbnail but after clicking the screen shows no photo but a black screen.
The pictures show a "!" Is there a solution ?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
