Thumbnail transparency grid feature

hi
my Illustrator is cc 2014.
I wish to see my thumbnails layers in my layers panel on transparent background instead of white.
transparency grid is "on" in my document.
I have looked everywhere for information about this.
this is doable by this tutorial
http://www.lynda.com/Illustrator-tutorials/Transparency-grid-paper-color/61020/67516-4.htm l
that doesn't explain about the thumbnail but about the document on which I know how to toggle its transparency.
thank you.

that could explain why in that tutorial it appears instantly as he changes the documents transparency grid.
the only workaround I have found so far is to change the documents grid to black thus making the layers background black
which is better than white in some situations.

  • [CC 2014] Why does showing transparency grid makes paths appear offset?

    Illustrator CC 2014, on Windows 7
    When I use menu command View > Show Transparency Grid it looks like an offset path effect gets applied to all paths, even text.
    This is giving me an incorrect view of my document. Very frustrating.
    This is what I'm seeing when I toggle Show Transparency Grid:

    I've now discovered that the inaccurate "offset path" effect only happens when using File > GPU Preview.
    Investigating further, I finally noticed the new options in Preferences > Experimental Features. The one called "Enhance Thin Lines" is the culprit. Toggle it off and the problem ceases.
    Is it a bug or intended behavior? Whatever the case, I find the effect harmful and not helpful. I'll be leaving that option off from now on.

  • Transparency grid outside of canvas?

    I just upgraded to CS5 from CS3 yesterday and I'm trying to figure out if what I'm seeing/doing is a "feature" or a "bug".  When i expand a window to show the grey area around an image and then command+click on a layer mask to load a selection, the grey area outside of the image changes to the transparency grid.  It's not a usable area, and it's without question not part of the image.  I just want to change it back without quitting out of photoshop each time.  Anybody familiar with this?
    As a side note, the eyedropper behaves strangely after this occurs.  When clicking to select a new color, the entire image turns black.  I can't help but think this is some type of new masking feature, but I cannot find any documentation on it to either learn how to use it or turn it off.  Is it a CS5 bug?

    Found a couple of brief comments to a PhotoshopNews article that addressed the issue:

    The use of the term “canvas” in this article is misleading.  Photoshop’s canvas is the editable area of the document window, and is  referred to in the Canvas Size and Rotate Canvas commands. …
    In other apps, this area is often called the artboard, but since this  area is not a active area in Photoshop, that name is also a misnomer.  You can make up any name you want, but don’t call it the canvas.

    Many of us on the Adobe Photoshop Forums have taken to calling that normally-gray area “the apron.”
    Seems as good a name as any, and should prevent any confusion with how we know the artboard to behave in Illustrator.

  • Keyboard shortcut to toggle Transparency Grid?

    Dear guys, is there some keyboard shortcut to Toggle the Transparency Grid?
    I'm aware of the little icon-button in the Composition Window to get this, but I would like to make that through a keyboard shortcut, if possible.
    (I ask here because don't find an answer in the regular shortcuts docs)
    Thanks for your help :-)

  • How do I change the transparency grid to gray in Camera Raw 8.7.1?

    I am using Scott Kelby's  The Adobe Photoshop CS6 Book for Digital Photographers. He has a tutorial on Lens Correction in Camera Raw where he uses vertical tilt to correct perspective on an image taken with a 10 mm lens (Chapter 3, page 69 if that matters to anyone). The correction is extreme and after correcting, the areas where the transparency grid would show are gray in his image. On my copy of Camera Raw 8.7.1, I get the familiar checkered transparency grid (I am using the same image supplied from the books web site.  He continues on with a Free Transform and Content-Aware correction to eliminate the "gray" area without explaining how the transparency section in his image got to be gray. Doing a selection on the transparency to complete the Content-Aware is not possible as described in his book. Is something I am missing with PS CC 2014? I have asked four other photographers using CS6 and CC. Two report they have the checkered grid and one has a gray area and yet another has a white area.   How can I get the gray area as described in the book?

    In case you are accessing this discussion by email, please be aware that I edited my last post:
    In have sent a query to the Kelby web site asking for an explanation.
    Great, I was going to suggest that right off the bat in my first post, but refrained from that so as not to be accused of being condescending.
    I always get a gray grid for transparency in ACR, no matter what, never a solid-color gray or solid any-other color.
    To be honest, I can't fathom why you would care that you get the same result.
    Totally off topic:  I can't stand Kelby.  :-/

  • After effects CC annoying transparency grid ghosting problem

    I just installed after effects CC on the new mac pro.  Using a brand new asus monitor.  Have a annoying problem with the transparency grid coming in as white can't see the grey checkerboard part.  Whats stranger is the grey checkers come up with a menu in front of the composition window feathered around the edges.  You can see in the pic the checkers outside the feathered edge come up almost pure white on my monitor.  The grey squares look a lot darker on this capture on my monitor they are almost pure white.  Maybe its a monitor issue???  Been working in after effects for over 10 years never had this problem.  While its just cosmetic its really annoying.  Any input????

    Never seen that. Try deleting the preferences file. Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. What else is running? What version of OSX down to the decimal point? What version of AE down to the decimal point?

  • Annoying transparency grid

    I'm using Adobe Reader X in Windows Vista. Every time I open a pdf I see the transparency grid over the document. When I go into Preferences and Page Display and and turn off "Show transparency grid" and then click OK, the grid disappears. But the next time I open the same pdf or any other pdf the grid is back! How do I make it go away permanently?

  • Layers do not display the transparent grid

    I must have hit some obscure keyboard command because now, when I create a layer, instead of a transparent grid behind the image, I get a black background. Can't find where I can change it back.

  • Transparancy grid isn't showing on my image

    For some reason i get a transparency problem that only occurs for small images. Please help anyone?

    I also see the document is small enough that it is zoomed in at 3200% - The transparent grid may be just too large to display at that level. In that you are see a white square of the grid. I beleive in the properties there is an option for chaging the grid size, try lowering it to the smallest size and see if that helps.
    Well I did a quick test in CS5 and the grid is displaying correctly. So the video driver may be the culprit after all.
    The attachment is a 3px x 3px blank document

  • Need help with open folder (in Explorer) and click on Toggle Transparency Grid

    hi guys, can i with Extended script enable Toggle Transparency Grid ? i try using app.executeCommand( app.findMenuCommandId(Toggle Transparency Grid));and nothing.
    and also can i some how open folder in windows explorer via Extended script? i try google but find only examples for web-javascript.....
    thx

    Actually your command should consist quotes. It will look like this:
    app.executeCommand(app.findMenuCommandId("Toggle Transparency Grid"));
    But I`ve tried, and it doesn`t do what you need, because it launches Adobe Anywhere.
    Solution for second question is:
    var path = "C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe After Effects CC/Support Files/";
    var cmd;
    cmd = "";
    if($.os.indexOf("Win") != -1){
    cmd = "explorer " + String(path);
    }else{
    cmd += (("open \"" + String(path)) + "\"");          // change var path for Mac
    try {
    system.callSystem(cmd);
    }catch (e){
    alert(e);

  • Can't drag & drop thumbnails in grid view

    Version 1.2: While in Grid view, I am unable to drag and drop thumbnails to manually sort. I am grabbing from the center of the thumbnail and the thumbnail turns to the dotted rectangle. However, when I drag, nothing happens.
    Has anybody encountered this?
    Thank you.

    Shut off include photos from subitems.
    This exact question was answered yesterday.

  • LR1 slow to display clear thumbnails in grid view

    I'm still using LR1 (1.4.1)
    My setup:
    -quadcore Intel, @2.8 Ghz
    -Vista x64 SP1
    -8GB ram
    -LR install on OS disk
    -system page file, and LR catalog and previews installed on a raid0 (stripe) pair of disks
    -Photos themselves on yet another disk
    -All disks are SATA2
    -Selected all photos in the catalog, and saved metadata
    -The write xmp on change flag is unchecked
    -I optimized my catalog
    -I removed the previews directory, selected all photos in the catalog (16K) and did a generate 1:1 preview (2048 pixel, high quality, never delete them), and I also did a generate standard previews as well.
    -I turned off Vista indexing of the previews directory and the photos directory
    -I don't have a dedicated Virus scanner running
    Work flow:
    I chose a day's worth of photos from the navigator on the left, and set a keyword in the keyword "spraycan". I start scrolling (with the mouse wheel) down through the grid.
    Issue:
    right off the bat it takes about 2 seconds or so for the thumbnails to become clear - they start off quite pixelated. I start "spraying" photos with my keyword. I scroll down to the next page full of thumbnails. It takes another 2 sometimes a bit more seconds before I can see what's in the thumbnails (until they sharpen). It doesn't sound like a big deal, but when I have a lot of keywords to add, I really want to be able to scan quickly through the patch of photos and quickly tag them. That 2 seconds each time I scroll really starts to drag.
    I with that LR would be able to in the backround sharpen the thumbnails in the Grid, so that when I scroll they are ready for me. Or perhaps I'm missing something with my optimization or configuration?
    Thanks for listening,
    Damon

    iTunes will need to load all of your artwork when using cover flow and grid view. There IS a cache folder in the Album Artwork folder of iTunes, but i don't know how effective that is.
    However, if you are running a version earlier than 9.2, iTunes 9.2 runs cover flow and grid view A LOT faster than previous versions, since what it does is create thumbnail versions of your images for those views only, making those views operate a heck of a lot quicker.
    I know 9.2 still has some bugs and some people may advise against it, but if you really want to see a boost of performance with grid view I'd recommend updating if you haven't already. Besides, for any bugs there, Apple will probably release fixes for them shortly.

  • Grid feature without Compiz

    I use XFCE and I really enjoy the compositor option. So Compiz is not necessary to me anymore. The only feature of Compiz that I miss is the Grid in which I used Ctr+Alt+4 to make a window take the left half screen, Ctr+Alt+6 to make a window take the right half screen e.t.c. Is there a way to make that available that option in an alternate way?

    AFAIK, subtle has it too => http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=13016

  • Outer Stage showing as transparent grid

    So when I open a file that's say, 100px x 100px, usually the PS window would be gray except for a 100pxX100px white square, which is, of course, the stage. However, now instead of the gray outer region (whatever that's called), it is showing as if it was transparent. When I drag the doc window to resize it, the stage is "duplicated" randomly while the transparent outer region continues to grow. I've attached a screen shot to help. The white block below is the stage. The rest is inaccessible. Also, if I use the Type tool, the screen flickers to its inverse with each keystroke. Anyone got an idea on this? I'd appreciate the help!

    Update your graphics driver.

    Instead of the default 'adaptative' grid view, use the normal 'detailed view' (shortcut Ctrl D). That choice is sticky the next time you use it.
