Thumbnail view in open dialog

I am not sure if this is even possible, but it's worth a question...
Is there a way in a flex/air to open the "file open dialog" in thumbnail view? (it opens automatically in list view)
I have an application that needs to open images and it would look much better if it could open in thumbnail view so that the user can see what (s)he is selecting.

Did you ever figure this out?  I too need to do this.

In the open dialog box, the thumbnails for psd files do not show the picture but show an Elements logo instead.  How can I see picture thumbnails for psd files as I do for jpg files?  I found a dng codec on the web site but not a psd codec.  The dng codec doesn't work for psd files.

There is no error.  There is no connectivity problem.  THe drives map automatically and always have.  I can open up File Explorer and browse these drives all I want.  I can open up Word and browse to these drives just fine.

  • Saving Jpeg crashes Finder in Thumbnail View Mode

    Hi all.
Anyone have this happen to them?
My finder crashes and relaunches itself when I do the following:
Have a finder window open in thumbnail view mode, open a jpeg image in Photoshop, then resave it. It happens without fail EVERY time I do this.
I do not have the problem in list mode or that other mode (whatever it's called - the one that lets you see the subfolders).
I'm running Panther on a PowerMac G4 and have had this problem from day one. I just did a clean install a month ago and the same issue exists.
    B.

Actually Onyx appears only "reset" the Spotlight index, it doesn't force it to reindex or anything else that I'm aware of.
I read up a bit more on Spotlight and tried to trash the index and associated files, hoping that it would reindex and all would be fine. However apon reboot it kicked back into it's old routine of cycling and eating up 99% of one of the CPUs.
I decided to finally just disable the spotlight feature completely using the DisableTigerFeatures program.
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/18182
Although I'm disappointed that I can't use Spotlight anymore (never used it much to begin with though) I can happy report that both my CPUs are mine again, my software and games are running snappier, my firewire hdd, iPod, and secondary SATA HDD not unmount and vertify just fine.
Sad that for months and months I basically allowed my G5 Dual Processsor to be crippled by a buggy (in my estimation) piece of software. Finally I feel like my computer is safe to work on and I'm enjoying it for the first time in quite awhile.
Thanks again Francine, had you not pointed my in the right direction I'd still be running a single processor machine that crashed all the time

  • View Thumbnails in Open Dialog?

When you bring up a "open file" dialog, the window automatically comes up in the list view.  Once it's open, I can manually select the thumbnail view, but next time you bring it up it goes back to the list view.  I want this dialog to open with the thumbnail view selected.  Anyone know of a way to do this?

Open File Dialog with Thumbnails.vi ‏12 KB

  • Thumbnails in "OPEN" dialog box too small to see!

The thumbnails are  too small in the open dialog box so that I can't see the file I want to open.  Yes, you can make them bigger in finder itself...but I am always opening pictures and I just can't see them!
Almost as frustrating as the column issue.   The name column is very very wide when I try to open a file.. so I can't sort by the other columns without dragging over the bar at the bottom of the screen.  THis is so so frustrating.  I resize but it doesn't stick to the next session.
Apple invented the finder.  Why is it so inferior to windows explorer?

The only solution to enlarging the icons in an application open dialog window is to use the Accessibility panel in System Preferences. Under Zoom, enable Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom.
The first time you have an application open dialog, you press the keys: option + command + =  as many times as you want to zoom in. This will enlarge the open dialog window and its contents. When done, press option + command + 8 to restore normal window size. Subsequently, you can alternatively press option + command + 8 to zoom to the previous setting, or return to normal zoom.
This is as good as it is going to get. The applications (not just Apple’s) only use a subset of Finder’s settings in the open dialogs, and these do not include icon enlargement settings, which as you realize, are part of the actual Finder’s settings. The application development frameworks, and not Finder, are remiss in not providing icon size adjustments in open dialog windows.
You can provide feedback to Apple regarding OS X.

  • Sort-by-type for column view in open/save dialog boxes?

    Hello all,
I've done a fairly good search both on Google and in these forums and can't seem to find this question addressed. When I go to open or save something (in Preview, for example) I prefer to use Column View in the dialog box, since it is easy to see and navigate the folder structure. However, Column View always shows up sorted by name, even if I specified in Finder that the folder be sorted by type. Because of this, I have to scroll down and hunt for subfolders rather than having them conveniently listed at the top.
My question is this: is there a way to get Column View to sort by type in the open/save dialog boxes? (The Command+J that works in regular Finder does nothing in these dialog boxes.)
    Thanks!

No. Column view will only sort by name. If you wanted to put a space before each folder name, then they will sort to the top. Sorting by Kind will put folders above files, but it will also put anything else except files at the top. If there are only folders, however, that would put them first in the sort list.

  • How to get thumbnail view in File-Open

No, I gave you bad advice -- relied on something I had heard without
checking it myself -- sorry. I've now done some checking, and there
doesn't appear to be any way to do what you want. What I do is open My

  • When I open a new tab, I want to see a thumbnail view of few recent pages. How to set that?

My friend uses Google Chrome browser, and when he openes a new tab he can see on it a thumbnail view of 6 or 8 recent visited pages. Vith a simple click on each of them he can revisit that pages.
I do not want to change my default browser (Firefox) but want to have that option.

There are several add-ons that allow you to do this, such as [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/777/ New Tab Homepage] and [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2221/ NewTabURL].

  • Reader opens by itself in xp thumbnail view

On my XP machine, if I have a PDF document in a folder set to thumbnail view, when it goes to render the thumbnail it will automatically open up the Reader program (9.3.4). Not the file, that just shows it's thumbnail, just the blank reader program. Any way to disable this? I Googled it, but couldn't find anything on it. Thanks.

It is likely that you have file associations messed up in Windows. If you double click a PDF in Explorer, does the file open in Reader or Photoshop? If the latter, you need to fix the file associations. Keep in mind that saving as a PDF from WORD is not the same as creating a PDF using Acrobat (which apparently do not have). For questions about Reader, you should go to the Reader forum in the future. Maybe my guess has answered your current problem.

  • Open dialog views

    hi Gurus,
can someone please tell me how to enable/disable views in the open dialog of WAD. i would like to disable/enable Workbooks and history views.
    thank you.

    Hi,
First of all, are you using WAD 3.5 or 7.0 ?
I am not so sure of WAD 3.5, but in WAD  7.0, you have command for Open Dialog in the Commands List.
Command for Data Provider --> Data Provider commands for Open/Save Function --> Call Open Dialog.
Under this specify your target Data Provider. And giv the required settings, in the following screens.
You can bring this command through a Link item or Puch Button or anything, as per your requirement.
    Hope this solves your problem.

  • Thumbnail view issues in PSE 10.

    Hello, new member here.
I can't view RAW thumbnails when I go into the open dialog (not organizer)  just regular file/open in PSE10.  (win 7 x64).  (Sony alpha 33)
    Is there a cache issue?
    Can I clear it?
I can see a preview of the file on the bottom of the window, but no thumbnails.
    Thanks in advance.

.jpg images from wither the same camera or another camera display fine.

    Hi Neale,
Thanks for the reply.  I really appreciate it.
I tried that and now I see a generic image of an ocean and mountain behind.  Previously, (before the sony raw driver)  was just an icon that looked like a file folder with "ARW" in big letters.  That is gone now and replaced by the image mentioned.
    Thanks again.

  • Image preview in Open dialog window (Photoshop CS6)

    Hi
We had a possibility to see images preview in Open File dialog window of Photoshop CS5 but in new CS6 version there is not such possibility. Should I forget about that nice option and use Mini Bridge?

I'm not so sure it was on purpose or not Noel. Especially since it's still there in Illustrator and Indesign. If it weren't for it being in those, I might think it was intentional. Then again, it could very well be Adobe trying really hard to push MiniBridge, which is almost utterly useless. I think they actually made the minibridge WORSE as well. The sizing issues of the thumbnails on that are a pain and minibridge is just plain cumbersome to run. Anyways, besides my many qualms with minibridge itself, and back on the open dialog box thing...I actually watched a youtube video pointing out the same codecs you're talking about and without the PSD functionality, it's pretty useless. I'm a graphic designer, so I don't really use PS for camera image editing and don't mess with those files that the codec helps with. Even if it did, that still isn't very helpful to me. Because at that point, you're pretty much just doing what Bridge/MIniBridge does. However, consider how I, and many other designers in the print field work: At any given point we might have something like 3 different versions of a file; a PSD (with layers to edit), a JPEG (to send to the customer for proofing), and a PDF (for printing). Now, within that customer folder I might have 50+ files of different jobs. Imagine trying to sift through all those thumbnails, scrolling across window upon window, and when you get to the file you're finally looking for, you click it open to just to see that you opened the jpeg instead of the PSD. Now, in LIST view, I can see many more files on one screen and each file type is represented by an icon. So I know the blue icons are Photoshop icons and it's very easy to skim through there and know exactly which file type I'm looking for without peering at extensions. Get what I'm saying? Not that I don't appreciate you trying to help. Just saying, unless any codec can bring back the preview screen....than I don't see a workaround until Adobe flat out FIXES IT. I'm one of those guys that loves to get the newest thing and give it time to work, but if they don't fix it, I might have to call up Adobe and demand a downgrade on my Photoshop to 5.5, cause it really slows my workflow when I have hundreds of files to keep up with, and any new feature in PS CS6 that might have sped up my work is offset by not being able to do such a remedial task as preview my files before opening them.

  • Slow navigation in the Open dialog

Here at work, we've just updated all of our Macs to OS X 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion), the latest version as of this writing, from Snow Leopard.  This has brought about a very unwanted change in Illustrator CS6's behavior.
Previously, whenever opening a file in Illustrator, navigating through a folder with hundreds of files by typing the first few letters of the file name we're after, it would take us quickly to that file.  If it was slow to do so, then it was because the dialog was trying to generate a thumbnail preview of each file that we were hitting along the way.  No big deal, since we could easily hit the down-arrow next to "Preview" so that the dialog would not try to generate a preview image for each file that was selected.
Now, however, the preview window takes up the rest of the Open dialog and it cannot be closed.  For example, as we type the filename "test.ai" in a folder with hundreds of files in it, the selection would stop at the first file with the letter "t" as the first letter, take about five seconds to generate a preview of that file, then move on to the next file, which is the fist one that begins with "te"—stopping at it to generate a preview, of course—then on to "tes", etc.  This means that it can take upwards of a good 15–20 seconds for the dialog to finally reach the file we need before we can finally hit <return> on it to open it up.  Please note that this behavior is not present in InDesign CS6, however.
Is there any way to turn off this "previewing" of files that are highlighted in Illustrator CS6's Open dialog on Mountain Lion?
UPDATE:  We have tried using each of the four different view options at the top of the Open dialog—Thumbnail, Details, List, etc.—with the same result.  Even in the Detail view, which doesn't have a Preview pane, still takes several seconds to move from one file to the next as you're typing out the target filename.  Any thoughts on what is causing this, then?
