Thumbnails are taking FOREVER to process.

A recent example is it took about an hour to process 75 thumbnails. Files were NOT shot in raw, and range from about 3-5 MB. I never used to have this problem, but the last month or so, it really is getting annoying. Is there anything I can do?

In my experience, CD import is faster when I have no other apps open and I'm not using the computer for anything else.

  • HT1766 I did a restore and now my pictures are taking forever to download. Its been stuck on the same number for 2 days now. What should I do?

I had problems with my internet connection and I had called sprint. I was told I had to erase all contacts and settings. I backed it up on iTunes now when I went to restore, first I didnt get half of my apps back (had to go re-download them) and now It shows downloading 43 of 816 photos whenever I go to camera roll. Its been on the numer 43 for 2 days now ?? What should I do or is there anything I can do!

I would let it finish if it's proceeding.  Then if they still aren't there, try restoring from backup again (by right-clicking on the name of your phone on the left panel of iTunes and selecting Restore from Backup, then choosing your most recent backup to restore from).  Suggest you go to iTunes preferences and on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  This will prevent iTunes from automatically syncing when you connect your phone and overwriting the backup you are trying to restore to.

    Hi,
You can try using the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/ User Agent Switcher] and create a generic entry like '''Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1''' and switch to this on problem sites.

  • So all of a sudden my titles are taking forever to render.

Just typing a few words is excruciatingly slow. I tried shutting down my Mac and restarting but it hasn't solved the issue

Exactly what happens when you try to start Firefox? Does it open but just not connect to websites? That could be caused by your security software's firewall, especially if you just updated Firefox. See [[Cannot connect after upgrading Firefox]].
If that's not the problem, try some [[Basic Troubleshooting]]. See if you can start in Firefox's [[Safe Mode]] by pressing the Shift key while you double-click the Firefox icon ... then select "Continue in Safe Mode" when the Firefox Safe Mode window appears. If Firefox starts in Safe Mode, follow the steps in [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] to see if you can find the source of the problem.
If Firefox still does not start, either post back with more information or try the suggestions here:

  • ITunes 8 taking FOREVER ( 12 hours) to process artwork thumbnails

Anybody else seeing this? Its taking forever to process the artwork thumbnails. It looks like its going out on our shared drive and processing all the media on all the computers on the network (~300GB). Or at least those that are shared. I can't tell for sure because the spinning color wheel of death won't pause so I can see what is going on.
Next question is will each of the computers in the house go through the same painful process with the shared media when upgraded to iTunes 8?
What an idiot I was. 8(

Same problem here (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1701877&tstart=0). What worked for me, finally, was to quickly hit Stop before the spinning ball appeared and I then checked off for this never to happen automatically in the subsequent dialogue window. It seems to get hung with albums that start with S.

  • After installing SP3 for BO XI R1 - Crystal Reports taking forever to run.

    Hello,
We are running BO XI R1 SP3.  Ever since installing SP3 a number of our scheduled Crystal Reports are taking forever to run.  The Business Objects server resources are okay, CPU never really gets above 50% so I figure perhaps it's our SQL Server.
We run SQL 2005 and CPU on that hovers around 30%, we've got 4 2.6GHz CPUs with 16GB of RAM.  Looking in SQL Server activity monitor the reason the reports are taking some time is that the wait types are generally CXPACKET.
For example a report used to process in a minute however after installing SP3 the report now takes several hours.  Since we've 4 CPU's on our SQL Server activity monitor creates four sessions for the report to try and process it in parallel.  However all of those four sessions have a wait type of CXPACKET.  This I understand is related to parallelism and people have said to reduce that so nothing runs in parallel.
However I should not have to do that as things used to run just fine, there is no physical reason (i.e. RAM / CPU / HDD) that reports are locked waiting in SQL server.  Has anyone else had this issue or have any suggestions on how to fix please?
    Kind regards,
    Chris Rutherford

XIR2 has two different redistributable MSI packages.  One is compatable with 1.1 framwork applications and the other is compatable with 2.0 framework applications.
try downloading the SP3 MSIs from [here|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009656792008E/crxir2sp3_net_si.zip]
    this will have both MSIs
    - CrystalReports11_5_NET.msi          (for 1.1fwk applications)
    - CrystalReports11_5_net_2005.msi   (for 2.0fwk applications)
rename the CrystalReports11_5_net_2005.msi to CrystalRedist115_x86.msi and replace the existing file in the Bootstrapper folder path
Uninstall the last install, rebuild and try your Click-Once install again.  This time you should have the 11.5.3700.0 runtime.

  • Applications are taking years to open.

Not sure if this is the right forum to add this.
Running an osx intel network with:
    open directory master
    dns
    fileserver
all running latest versions of osx server and all imacs are running latest version os x client.
I have a problem where office and other applications are taking forever to load and then the computer taks forever to give back woring control to the user.
All users are roaming users (students) and experience the same problem.
Im guessing its just the first time a user opens an application preferences need to be saved to the profile.
    Can anyone help me?!

There are too many possibilities to solve your problem from the posted information.
    For example:
Are users home directories local to their machine, or centrally located on a file server (network home directories)?
Is it all apps or just certain ones?
All client machines, or just certain ones?
You hypothesize yourself about the 'first launch' delay (which is valid since apps often run one-time setup/configuration processes), but you don't say whether subsequent launches exhibit the same problem. Office apps, in particular, are known to have a slow first-launch, so your problem might jut be that.
Are other activities slow, or is it just launching apps?
What about network performance? have you looked at your network? is your server overloaded?
Are file copies to and from the server slow?
My first guess is that you have a duplex mismatch on your server and that you're using network home directories, but that's just a stab in the dark. The above questions will help narrow it down.

  • *** Rendering is taking forever

I am editing a 720x480 DV anamorphic project on a DP 2.7 and the render times are taking forever for a render to rather simple video (i.e. not many layers). I'm getting an orange bar whenever I need to render. In the past it was green and went much faster.
I must have changed the preferences. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the orange bar and have the green bar mode available to render?
    Thanks in advance.

It wouldn't make any difference... if you set your playback to "safe" or Unlimted mode in the RT pop up menu in the Timeline window you can change the 'render status" colors, but the time it takes to actually render will be the same as long as the render quality settings are the same.
FWIW, some effects take longer to render than others for sure...

  • Projects on one drive taking forever to load /conform, while projects on other HDDs are fine

Hi guys, I'm at a bit of a loss here.
    I have a Core i7 Win 7 ultimate 24gb ram running premiere cs5.03
I have a ssd drive for os and progs (C), and then 4 other identical 2tb drives for projects. (D,E,F and G)
I have about 8 projects per drive, all the same thing (wedidngs)
I have my last wedding of 2011 to get edited, and it is on the F drive.
I dump all the folders into the project window, but the conforming stage is taking FOREVER (3+ hours and I gave up, an average wedding all the files conform in a few minutes)
The file types are h264 .mov from canon DSLRs by the way, but I have discovered that it must he a problem with my F drive.
At first I thought it was settings issue with CS5 (media cache folders etc..), so I tried changing the media chache drives etc... but nothing helped
Then I tried to open a previous CS5 project that was on the F drive (a project I completed just one week ago) and it just hanged on the loading screen (20 mins and I gave up)
It is strange as the drive isn't nearly full, plenty of space on it (in fact my E drive is nearly full but I can still open all the projects on taht and they load up in the normal time frame)
Nothing else is on the drive, just project folders, the same size and type of projects that re aon all of my other drives, they all work fine, but now all of drive F seems 'corrupted'?
So it seems I have a problem with my F drive (D, E and G are all fine)
I don;t know what the problem is or how to identify it.
I am currently doing the error checking process then I will defrag.
The bizarre thing is, nothing has changed, last week everything was fine, this week I have a problem with that one drive.
I've read online that it helps to have separate sratch disks for video, audio, previews etc...
But with my yearly workflow, it is better for me to just have the whole project (video, audio, previews etc..) on the same folder in the same drive.
This has worked great for the past 6 months, but all of a sudden, any old projects on the F drive hang on the loading page, and any new projects take more than 3 hours to import / conform?
I've tried my best to explain the problem but reading it back my description does seem a bit all over, I guess that's becuase my mind is all over the place due to this problem!
It's my last wedding from 2011 and I cannot get the project started (been at it all day, havent got any editing done, just trying to solve this)
So if anyone has any tips or advice on how to identify the problem, confirm if it is a HDD issue or premier issue (I think HDD as all other projects on the other drives are fine) I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks
    James

For some reason I think I might have missed some but its to late now since the drive will not spin up anymore.
If you do go this route make sure to do it all at once.
I think I might have waited between tries but can really remember, it was a long time ago and I try to keep better back-ups now.

    Hi Glenn,
Thanks so much for your responses,
"I then froze the drive and as soon as I took it out started copying the files to a new drive.
Running CPU-Z or Speccy I could monitor the temp of the drive.  As the temp went back up the speed of the drive slowed till I could not copy any more.  I just repeated and kept going till I got all the data off.
I still have the drive but even freezing cant geet it back up and running now.
Its not a good meathod since it will ruin your drive but its free and might work."
Sorry I ma not reallt sure on the internal worksings of HDDs, can ask you to explain what this is?
    Thanks again for your help

For about the past week, Facebook has been taking forever to load (or just doesn't) on my mac (OSX 10.5.8; Safari 5.0.6).  Other sites are fine.  I routinely empty the cache, clear history, cookies, etc. each time I shut down.  Suggestions?

I don't use Facebook, but I can say that clearing the cache every time you shut down is excessive - unless you're sure the cache is corrupt you should leave it alone.  It exists to speed up your browsing experience by loading frequently requested items from your drive rather than downloading them fresh from the internet each time.  So, I would say stop clearing your cache and see what happens.
As for clearing cookies: I'm not sure what method you currently use, but I would recommend you download and install CCleaner.  It's free, and allows you to build up a list of cookies that you want to clear and those you want to keep, before deleting them.
Both of these may help speed things up by reducing the amount of work Safari has to perform whilst browsing.  Regardless, I'd say that, unless there's a reason you've not mentioned for performing the "purging" that you do, making these two changes should see improvements in general web browsing if not specifically when loading Facebook.

  • Library thumbnails taking forever to update

Up till now I have only had 1500 images imported in folders. When scrolling down within Grid mode in the Library the images updated very quickly, going from blurry thumbnail to sharp thumbnail. Yesterday I added a folder with 4800 images spread in many sub folders. Now even my original folder with 1500 images takes a lonnnng time to update the thumbnail images to a sharp preview after I scroll down the page. I may have made some other changes but going through the prefs shows nothing dramatic. I know I imported with 1:1 preview chosen for the large folder. Currently I can scroll down the library and the thumbnails remain blurry for up to 30 seconds before a sharp preview is given. Any thoughts on how to speed this up? It is not usable at this point.

this continues to be an issue for me. I have a 2.66 Mac Pro with 8 gigs of memory and four internal 500 gb drives and that's a reasonably fast machine, but even with some data information turned off and library images set to compact it is a very long time before the screen is fully updated after opening LR. When I open LR it takes "forever" before all the thumbnails are sharp. This seems to be a one-time event. After some period of time (I haven't timed it...I go do some other work after several minutes) all the thumbnails are sharpened up but even with these previously viewed libraries it takes quite a long while - much much longer than in Photoshop CS1. Scrolling also remains abyssmal. Having to revert to a jagged low res jpg and watch the screen redraw EVERY time I scroll up or down my library is just making me crazy. In PS CS1 I can just scroll to my heart's content with no screen redraw at all. All the other factors involved make LR better over all, but these super long screen redraws when I open LR, and the redraws every time I scroll through a bunch of images makes an otherwise great experience a real pain.
