Thumbnails do not show - and each time I start, it creates 12900 thumbnails...

I have Adobe Elements 12. If I look at all my pics, the newer ones - mostly if I zoom out a lot, meaning that the thumbnails are very small - then the sandclock Comes and stays... if I zoom in, then if the thumbnails become quite a large size, then they transform into pictures rather than the sandclock. At the same time, when I start AE 12 up, and if I go to organizing, then it instantly starts producing the same 12900 thumbnails over and over again, always the same number - and even after I let it produce all 12900 thumbnails, next time when I start up, it does it again. And what is interesting is that I have almost 30'000 pics and older ones in rgds to thumbnails work just fine. And they all are saved at the same location (in a NAS). If I go to full screen, all pics are OK.
Maybe the storage location the NAS is a Problem? When I am trying to save pics from my camera, then Elements is per default trying to save on the local hard disk. Maybe this is where it looks for the thumbnails as well?
I also wonder if some of it is because the constant production of the 12900 thumbnails as soon as I start the program up is actually taking so much resources from my computer that it really slows down things.
Anyhow, quite a mess and all help much appreciated from you specialists!

Does Firefox "reinstalls" when you close it and start it up again without rebooting the system, or do you need to reboot the system for Firefox to "reinstall"?
If it's the later, it's likely that your computer is automatically restoring your [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles Profile folder] when you reboot it. You need to talk to your system administrator about this issue. In my experience, some companies do install software that makes the user's account restore itself when the computer shuts down. In fact, the company I work with does this. I get around it by Hibernating, instead of Shutting Down the computer, so I basically never log off my account. I understand this may be frown upon in your work environment, or even not possible at all. So you really need to speak to your IT department or sysadmin and ask him to address this issue.

  • I to use iphoto library manager to save corrupted iphoto and each time it saves some and the first time it brings up iphoto, iphone goes into "not responding" mode.  Using mac book pro, iphoto 9.5.1, and maverick 10.9.2.

    I've had issues with my iPhoto "not responding" and as a result I am attempting to save my photos to an external hard drive using iPhoto library Manager but each time I start the program it saves some, and then when it starts iPhoto, iPhoto then goes into not responding mode. I have completed all of the photo library first aid steps several times, but it makes no difference, iphoto eventually goes to "not responding."  Initial issues started with Time Machine back ups stopping because of iphoto.     Do you have a back up?
    If you're just trying to recover the photos you can do that much more simply:
    Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
    Look there for a Folder called 'Originals' or 'Masters'. (varies according to the version of iPhoto)
    Your photos are inside - these are the originals as imported from your camera.

    I have this same problem. It's like it is not Authorizing this Mac.
    What happens when you try to listen to a preview on the Music Store?
    Mine asks me to authorize again and gives me the error exactly as you said above.
    What happens when you try to view your account information (in Music Store, click on your account name in the top right corner)?
    Mine lets me authorize sucessfully and shows me my account information.
    I have emailed iTunes support about this and they replied with a generic answer about Deauthorizing and re-authorizing the computer.

    The default settings mostly likely use an audio sample rate of 32k. This doesn't work probably in FCP. You're probably better off capturing the tape in iMovie.

    If you aren't receiving the email to your rescue email account (and you've checked the spam folder on it as well as the inbox) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the questions reset.

    So, I usually use a passcode to prevent my kids from having unauthorized access to my iPad.
    In the past, if they entered the wrong code, it would say, "iPad disabled for 1 minute" or whatever...and
    that time would go up each time they entered a wrong code up until I think 15 minutes.
    Well, now it doesn't show a time... it just says "iPad is disabled" and it isn't giving me an opportunity

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

    The supported targets for Time Machine backups are local (direct-connected) disks, and network targets include Time Capsule, a disk hanging off the current-generation AirPort (though not earlier AirPort devices), and OS X Server systems.
    The Time Machine storage is based on the HFS+ file system, so I would not expect TM to work with SMB file services.
    While there are hacks to allow Time Machine to access network drives, I would not consider those to be reliable. Skim the forum and the 'net for related details, and for previous discussions of setting this up and the related issues that can arise.
    Remember to test the recovery with whatever you decide to use; whole point of backups is the ability to restore the data, after all.

  • I am having trouble with the updates to firefox. Each time I start it I get a page that says proxy server refusing connections and have to reinstall the old version just to use the internet. That also removes the personas from my browser.

    I currently have version 3.0.10 and have gotten two prompts to upgrade my version of firefox and each time I do install the new version and then try to start up Firefox, I get a page instead that says proxy server is refusing connections and the only way to browse is to re-install the old version. I also have to re-install the old version at least 3 times before I can use Personas.

    In Firefox 3.6.4 and later the default connection settings have been changed to "Use the system proxy settings".<br />

    I've recently had some trouble with iTunes match, where it wasn't downloading songs, although I could stream them fine. I spoke to someone from Apple who suggested turning off iTunes Match, then do a 'Reset All Settings', then re-enable iTunes Match. This seems to work fine, as I can now download songs.
    Since performing the above 'reset', each time I start 'Music', it displays 'Loading iTunes Match', the progress bar gets all the way across, then I see my songs (not my playlists though - but that's a separate question). However, if I come out of Music, and go back in, I see the same message..
    I've now tried about 10 times, with re-boots and turning off/on iTue

    There may a problem track amongst those tracks that are waiting. Firstly, add iCloud status column to song view - go to menu > view > view options and tick box.
    Next is to examine those tracks waiting - is there anything unusual or large? You may need to remove all those tracks waiting from your library. Next hold shift key whilst turning off match. Close iTunes, reopen and turn on match. You will be asked to add this computer, do so. The match process should be quick, match will remember previous matches and uploads.
    Once process complete, readd those tracks, a small batch at a time. This will help you find any track that match does not like.
