Thumbnails Files

In Windows 8 I can't see thumbnails of video flash files, but I see and download video flash properly.

  • Pdf converter only makes thumbnail file

I'm working with Photoshop CS4 & Acrobat 8 and trying to create a pdf by using the Adobe pdf converter print driver. I print the PS file to the Adobe printer and many times only get a thumbnail file. Sometime I get a full size file - other times just a thumbnail. I've tried all different permutations and can't consistently get a complete file. It's driving me crazy - so much so, that I've had to install a third party pdf converter which (so far) appears to be working fine. Has anyone else run across this ptoblem - and/or suggest a fix.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Ap.thumbnails file doesn't get smaller

when the underlying project is reduced.
I have a project in which I removed ~ 70% of the files and noticed that the size of the AP.thumbnails file for the project remained constant at 231 MB. I created a new project moved all of the images to it and the AP.thumbnails file is 27 MB. Any ideas why the original one wasn't reduced?
I'm using GrandPerspective to look at the underlying file size quickly, but the shell should show the same.

I would guess that the thumbnails file grows but does not shrink. You have probably inported lots of images and then deleted many of them.

  • Thumbnail File

I have a 16G Thrive. Of that there is about 10G for my use. A check of the file manager tells me I'm using over 9G of that space. But when I add up what I think I'm using it only totals about 6G for my pictures, movies and a few other small files that only amount to a few K. Pretty much all that space is for the movies.... the picture file is only about 260M.  I also have a 16G SD Card in use and on it I have a few movies and a picture file with a good many pictures.  The picture file on the SD Card is about 2.5G. After looking for a while I found that the Thumbnail folder (sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnail) is using something like 2G.
So.... I have about 15 movies total and a little over 2.5G of pictures total. Why in the heck is the Thumbnail file (sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnail) nearly 2G when the picture files themselves aren't that much larger?
I'm new to Android and maybe this is an obvious question. I do have multiple video players installed (MX Mobo) and there are multiple apps that can view pictures. Do they all have separate entries in the DCIM folder with some kind of hidden attribute that the built in file manager and ES File Explorer don't show?

Wow, it's been a while since I asked this question. I'm surprised you read it but thanks. As to deleting the file.... seemed like a good idea to me too. I deleted it over and over and it kept being rebuilt. Finally I gave up and forgot about it. Well I just checked and the file is no longer that large. As a matter of fact it ain't even there. I can't even tell where the thumbnails are. When I do storage usage checks with both Astro and ES neither show any folders of any significant size other than my folders... movies pics etc. But the thumbnails for my movies and pics all work just fine. So I haven't a clue what caused the giant thumbnail file or what made it go away. I did decide I like MX reader better than Mobo so I uninstalled Mobo but hard to believe that would make a difference.

  • Can you delete thumbnail files safely

I need to clean up for HD space.
FCPX GENERATES a lot of thumbnail files.  Can these be deleted safely, what can happen if I do?
Render files have not been a problem I know they render again.
    Thanks,

Yes. The thumbnail files will be re-geerated the next time you open the project.
Just to say, however, that you should not expect  any more than very modest space savings. It's the High Quality Media render folder that typically offers the big potential for savings.

  • Thumbnail files

    Hi,
I'd like to ask about one thumbnail file in my Nokia 500. The capacity of mass storage in this phone is about 1.6GB but almost half (750 MB) of it is stolen by the thumbnail file
    private/10281e17/[102830AB]thumbnail_v4 .
So I removed this file and phone worked correctly (probably this file is not so important). But after a while the thumbnail file was created again and the phone memory was full.
What is this file good for?
Is it possible to change some phone settings (or some application) not to create this file?
    Thanx in advance

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi forazik,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the forums!
The file you deleted is thumbnail cache, which is automatically created by your phone's operating system. It contains thumbnails of your media files for quicker access, and as a system created file, deleting it is useless as it will be automatically rebuilt.
If you have a lot of pictures and videos on your device the thumbnail cache will, of course, be larger in size. In order to prevent the cache file ballooning, you could move some of your media files off the device with Nokia Suite, thus reducing the file size.

  • Missing Thumbnail File

Recently I began getting the message "Missing File - thumbs/proto-thumbail-Headers.tiff".  Is there any way to restore the file?  This is a multi-sheet book and the page names are not being displayed.

    "thumbs/proto-thumbail-Headers.tiff"
is a partial path to a file embedded in a document or in a template.
There is no folder thumbs in the application's resources, only in the templates's ones.
As you see, there is no file :
    proto-thumbail-Headers.tiff
in the thumbail files shared in Numbers '08.
There is one only in Numbers '09.
In Numbers '08, such file exists only in one template :
As far as I know, every document created by Numbers '08 starting from an in-the-box template is in fact built using the template
    XYZZY__AppleMagic__XYZZY.nmbtemplate.
The document's index xml file will contain :
    <ls:thumbnail sfa:ID="SFRImageBinary-10">
                  <sf:size sfa:w="32" sfa:h="32"/>
                  <sf:data sfa:ID="SFEData-10" sf:path="Templates/XYZZY__AppleMagic__XYZZY.nmbtemplate/thumbs/proto-thumbail-Headers.tiff" sf:displayname="thumbs/proto-thumbail-Headers.tiff" sf:size="2796" sf:resource-type="1" sf:hfs-type="1414088262" sf:checksum="49dc7211" sfa:version="1"/>
    </ls:thumbnail>
If for some reason, this template no longer embed the file :
    proto-thumbail-Headers.tiff
You will get the described warning.
An alternate way to get this warning is to urge the app to include the template's components in the document.
Doing that, the document's package will contain :
And for sure, if you remove one of these files, you will get the described warning.
OK, it seems that I explained eveything about thes thumbnail files.

  • Camileo X-sports - no thumbnail files using 1080p 60fps

    Hi everyone:
I've recently bought the camileo x-sports. It's a nice camera but i found one problem with it:
It is supposed that with every video or photo that it takes, it creates simultaneously anoher smaller sized file, named as "thm".
The problem is that my x-sports does not create that file for videos in 1080p 60 fps, but it does for 30fps.
Whats the problem with it?, i tried solving it updating the firmware, but it did not result.
    Thank you for your time.
    Enrique.

The thm file extension means thumbnail image file and this is a quick snapshot of your video.
Besides the original recorded video file (VID00001.mp4) a smaller sized video file (VID00001_thm.mp4) will be created during video recording.
This file will be used for faster video content transfer with your WiFi APP from the camera to your tablet / smartphone device and further to upload your videos and photos to social networks with your WiFi APP.
Obviously the snapshot isnt created due to the double frame rate and I guess this happens because the 60fps file is much bigger and probably 30fps videos file quality is good enough to watch it on your tablet / smartphone or for upload to social networks, etc

  • Restoring ithmb photo thumbnail files after restoring ipod

I have lots of photos on my ipod that i copied from my computer when i was back at home, i'm miles away from home and won't be back until another year.
I DID NOT include the full resolution photos when i copied the photos so I just have thumbnails which are stored in 10 .ithmb files.
I need to restore my ipod as i have video issues so have copied all my music and videos to a PC.
The folder 'photos' which contains a file called 'Photo Database' and the sub dir called 'Thumbs' which contains the 10 .ithmb files, if i copy these to back to the ipod after restoring will my thumbnails be restored ok and work as normal?

They should be, however i cannot garuntee it..sorry. You could google a program that will copy the photos off your Ipod. You could then copy the pics off your Ipod and onto your computer. Then restore your ipod and then reimport the pics back onto your computer. If you just copy and paste all the files on the iPod, restore it, then replace the folders again with the copies you made u could end up with the same problem again. But that is depending on how you got the songs off the iPod.
    Hope this helps...

  • Can't view thumbnails, files all JPEG

After installing Photoshop Album SE, every photo I have ever taken was converted to JPEG format. Now, when I go to attach photos to an email (using Yahoo), I can't see the thumbnails (just a JPEG icon). I can't see them in My Computer either.
What is going on? Can I get the old file format back? Should I uninstall the program?
    Thanks.

    > After installing Photoshop Album SE, every photo I have ever taken was converted to JPEG format.
Sorry. That is impossible. PSA SE does not change the format of anything. JPEG is the usual format out of digital cameras.

  • Workflow improvements for thumbnails, files, archives, etc

I hope this does not duplicate previous requestes - I am a relatively new user of bridge. Maybe the features I wish are part of bridge but I cannot find them :-( These requests are useful to improve the work flow immediately after a process a large number of images (maybe a few thousand) from an event such as a wedding, speed skating competition, dance production, or car race. The objective is to rapidly allow the selection of images that are to be grouped for edit/delete/copy by examining thumbnails and slide shows.
    1. Thumbnails are too small on a 1280x1024 or larger screen. It is difficult to compare adjacent images. It would be nice to allow the user to specify thumbnail size. The thumb data base should match the chosen size. However, it would be adequate if only new images added to the data base have the new size. It is difficult to use the Preview window for judging when images are separated.
    2. Rename of files should allow the use of the EXIF date/time created. Time is important if multiple cameras are used in a photoshoot and it is desired to put all images in time sequence. The present rename only considers a file attribute of year/mo/day and forgets about the EXIF date/time shot.
    3. A simple "select" or "tag" of images (such as the CTL/S key) would be useful that does not update information as does Labels and Ratings. Typically, this would be used for selecting files that are to be deleted, copied, etc. Teamed with the larger thumbnails and the slide show, this would be a very convenient tool for selecting images for editing / processing purposes. Yes, you can CTL/CLICK to do this in windows, but that is inadequate (see point 5 below).
    4. If the slide show is used and then exited with the ESC key, the thumbnail directory list should be positioned to and highlight the last viewed item. This highlight should be different than "select" - it is a position reference only. For example, I could be selecting images by viewing thumbnails but use the slide show (see 5 below) to view/select a series of images. The logical place to show where you "are" is in the thumbnail view.
    5. Any Labels, Ratings, or "select" (as in point 3 above) should be settable from the current image viewed on the slide show. The slide show is nothing more than a "giant thumb view".
    6. The thumbnail data base, if saved in a mounted directory, should be accessable and viewable in read-only mode even if the actual disk drive containing the images is not on-line. For example, it would be nice to view all thumbnails from my four archive hard drives even though they are normally turned off.
It would be even nicer if BRIDGE could sense the fact that the drive has been turned on and then allow full image access. A super smart feature would be a prompt that tells which drive label (maybe even a CD label) should be mounted. If this were done, I could receive a print order for image TF123456, look through the always-available thumbnails, click on the desired image for CS2 editing and have it tell me "please mount disk with label 0246-20040315". After I turn on the hard drive or mount the CD, CS2 magic would continue.

    >2. Rename of files should allow the use of the EXIF date/time created.
I think you'll find that this exactly what you do get when Date Created is chosen. In Bridge Date Created refers to the time the image was captured, which is the same as Exif date/time created.
You can find a downloadable listing of Bridge and Camera Raw keyboard shortcuts at
Jeff Schewe, "++ Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw Shortcuts ++" #4, 28 Apr 2005 11:10 pm
These should help you with Slideshow and many other features that you can't find via the menus or the interface itself.

  • Help! Thumbnail + files lose Sharpening done in Camera Raw

I sharpen an image in Camera Raw... Looks great. I save it as a JPG to my ext HD. I open and thumbnail previews and file lose the sharpening I applied. Looks terrible. Reinstalled whole Design Premium. Didn't work.
    Thanks for any answers!

Am I to understand you expect your thumbnail previews to be sharpened the same as your images?  These things are generally at two completely different scales.  Sharpening that affects a radius of 1 or 2 pixels in a 3000+ pixel image won't have much visible effect at 800 pixels.
A preview is just that - a preview.  You should not expect to gauge the sharpening of the actual image by the sharpness of the preview generated.  Image sharpening settings have to do with the development of the image, not the generation of the preview.
I think perhaps you're actually trying to solve a problem where you'd like to see more detailed previews on your monitor, e.g., in Filmstrip mode in Bridge, or for a slideshow.  Have you tried investigating the different preview options in Bridge?
Also, something else to look at:  In Bridge, choose Edit - Preferences - Advanced...  Try checking the following setting, remembering to purge the cache afterward in order to cause the preview regeneration.

  • How do I stop OSX from creating ._ thumbnails of network files

Our macs are networked to Windows servers that hold a large amount of image files. These are updated on a continual basis unfortunately the files can't be saved directly to the server but copied blindly into the folder from our macs. The ._ invisible files on the mac appear in windows, not really a big deal (although I would rather they didn't exist a all) The big problem comes when the folders on the server are opened on the mac, it takes forever for the mac to create the little alias or thumbnail files for each image. How do I stop OSX from doing this.

You can stop "some" of those pesky ._invible files with this...

  • New Tab Page - thumbnails are not using the files from cache folder, but they want a connection to their origin website.

    Hi there,
each time I visit a website, FireFox saves a thumbnail of all these sites for the "New Tab Page". Those thumbnails are cached in the 'thumbnails' Folder . That's so far ok for me.
    The problem is:
Every time if I use the "New Tab Page" (...after shutdown & reopening the browser and only with 'mousehoover' on any thumbnail) all the thumbnails on that page don't use the cached thumbnails from the local profile folder.
    This means:
Instead of using the cached thumbnail-files all(!) these thumbnails dials to their origin websites without(!) a mouseclick on any of these thumbnails (...see jpg pictures) !
I'm using the "Clear history when Firefox closes" with the following options:
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.cache - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.cookies - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.downloads - false
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.formdata - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.history - false(!)
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.offlineApps - false
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.passwords - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.sessions - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.siteSettings - false(!)
So, i can't believe that this homedialing of pinned and unpinned thumbnails should be a normal function.
    1. Screenshot: thumbnails in the New Tab Page
    2. Screenshot: the same thumbnails in the Cache Folder "thumbnails" (...also they are there after shutdown of Firefox)
    3. Screenshot: Dialing to the origin websites (...after restart of Firefox)
The Browser Version is Firefox ESR 31.2.0 and in the installation are no Add-ons, which are - for example - prefetching linked websites.
I would like to use the "New Tab Page" without 'homedialing', so the question is:
How can I force the thumbnails to use the cached thumbnail-files ?
    or
How can i disable the 'loading of content from their origin websites' already on mousehoover ?

There is a preload pref available that you could try to disable on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    *browser.newtab.preload = false
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
