Thumbnails in explorer

I've researched this problem and have found plenty of solutions, but none seem to work. For some reason I can't add the registry key to my registry. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Basically, I'm trying to get the thumbnails to show up in my windows explorer. I don't use bridge, nor do I want to. It doesn't make my work process any faster. Essentially the solution has been to overwrite the aiicon.dll with a new file, which I've done. But there's also a registry key to add, but I get an error when I try to add that key. Error accessing the registry. ANyone run across this? I'm on XP in admin mode, and I can access the registry through regedit, so I'm thinking maybe there's an error in the key or something. Here's the registry file.

Would love to have thumbnails again. Makes life so much easier. If anyone's had this issue and can help, you'd make me a happy guy.
Thanks.

You're right. Not what I wanted to hear. Such an annoying issue. Thing is, I have access to the registry, but adding this particular key is just not working. Not sure whether a repair would make much of a difference. And my experience with repair has always met with little to no improvement in the past and I don't even have a CD-rom on this computer any more. Got rid of it. Old technology IMO. Anyway, I'll keep looking around for a solution. I'd be happy to add them in manually, but that I don't really know how to do. If you have any advise on what needs to be added where, that would be appreciated. I've already backed up my registry and this to me is definitely worth the chance of making changes to the registry manually. Just not sure what to sadd and where. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it.

  • PSD Thumbnails in Explorer

No developments on this I suppose?  I thought maybe that with Windows 7 MS might have reached an agreement with Adobe but it seems not as psd icons still show the generic logo.  Bridge is irritating with W7 as you can't get into "Libraries" - their contents won't show.  I keep hoping that one day we'll get back the thumbnails in Explorer.

Thanks.  I feared as much.  On my copy of RC7100 when I am in Bridge and click on Libraries I get a "No items to display" message.  So Bridge will not go into Libraries.  I can get to my picture folders going to Computer/C/Users/Me/My Pictures but this is long winded.  Libraries is a great feature in W7 and they don't seem to be compatible with Bridge.

  • How do I get Windows8 to display thumbnails in Explorer

Just changed from Windows XP to Win 8. In XP I could see picture thumbnails in Explorer where as in Win 8 I can only see the Application Icon. Help, going nuts..
PS: in XP I was using Photoshop CS3 Now I'm using Lightroom 5.2

There should be a Microsoft RAW Codec that you can install.  If you can’t find that or it doesn’t work for the images you want, then there is a pay-for codec that displays thumbnails of more image formats from:  http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/

  • Thumbnail in explorer issue

I have seen this discussed several times before in my searchs, but none in XP.  I can only see some thumbnails in explorer.  It seems the files that were created in a new version do not show.  I am using Acrobat Pro 8.2.1 currently, but saw the problem in the previous version or 2 also.  My PC is Windows XP Pro SP3 32-bit.  Any help would be much appreciated.

I have Acrobat Pro 8.2.0 installed on my laptop and found that when I explore to the network folder where my pdf's are stored it allows me to see the thumbnails.  I can then go back to the problem pc and all is good.

  • Server 2008 Picture Thumbnails in Explorer!??

How can I turn on the preview/thumbnails when viewing pictures in explorer.  This is driving me crazy....

    Jeffrey,
If you go to the folder in question and follow these steps do you get your thumbnails:
    1) Select Organize --> Folder and Search Options --> View --> Advanced Settings: Uncheck Always show icons, never thumbnails.
    2) Change the view to Tiles, Medium Icons, Large Icons or Extra Large Icons.
You should now see thumbnails.  By default thumbnails are disabled in Server and this setting allows you to get a client type experience.
    Thanks,
    -Steve

  • Photoshop CS5 - Thumbnails in Explorer

I convert all my photos into dng and some I leave as raw but in any case I cannot see the photos when I do  an open in CS5 and browse to see the picture, is there something I need to download 3rd party wise to view these or am I messing up somewhere?

Explorer integration seems to be a bit of a blind spot with Adobe, especially with the 64 bit operating systems.  Not only with .dng files but also with .psd.
There are 3rd party companies that have created commercial codecs for Explorer that will show you the thumbnails.  For example:
    http://www.ardfry.com/dng-codec/
You might even be able to find a free one on the web (more likely if you're running a 32 bit OS).

  • What settings will allow Adobe to display as a thumbnail in Explorer

This question has probably been answered many times before but bear with me as I cannot find out what settings are required to allow Adobe to display as a thumbnail, of the files contents, instead of the red PDF orbital image. I have a lot of craft images, papers etc and I used to have a proportion of the files that displayed as an thumbnail image but could never make all my Adobe files display the same and since I have updated to Adobe Reader XI I no longer have any files that display as thumbnails. As it makes it easier to see an image instead of opening each document every time to see the image it would be useful to be able to  convert back to thumbnails. I would hope that this is still possible as if it isn't it is certainly a retrograde step.
This is on a PC / Laptop running Windows 7
Thanks to anyone who can come up with an answer
    Pete M

It has been my experience that with all 64-bit Windows (I use 7 and 8.1), thumbnail preview does not work well. I've had some success with:
Fixes for 64-bit Adobe Reader preview handler and thumbnails
With this fix, preview works correctly for a time and then stops working. I have no idea why it stops.
I've looked for an alternative to Adobe Reader (I use the free version). Only one seems to work and it is Foxit Reader. I understand that you wanted a fix for Adobe Reader. So do I. For now at least, I have set Free Foxit Reader as default so that thumbnails work and use "right-click/open with" to open in Adobe Reader.
    Hope this helps

  • Windows Explorer Thumbnail View

    Hi guys
I am making a photo gallery system software in the main window I want to show images in thumbnail view. however I see people that they use JButton to show each thumbnail I think that's unconventional so I am trying to create something like Windows Explorer thumbnail view but I don't know how do it. I have a class named thumbnail which will get an image and resize it to thumbnail and put a border around it but i don't know where to put that thumbnail. I think JTable is a good place since you can select the cells but then again i don't know how to add an image to a cell
    thank you

Thankx actually I kinda got it working however there are two problems
1-how can i add images dynamiclly I mean I want start with zero row and and whenever someone imports an image to system I want to show the thumnanil of that in the table. meaning adding that image to next avaialbe cell
2-if i have 6 column and 10 rows that's 60 cells but imagine if i have added only 51 images added so that take 51 cells and 9 cells are empty which a row and half and the system has option to select all thumbnail (like explorer) but the problem is it will even select the cells that are empty since it is a table
if someone know how to do this or give me a hint i appreciate it
    thanks

  • PDF Thumbnails in Windows explorer...

I have noticed that when you choose thumbnail view in XP or Vista, it only shows a adbove icon instead of an actual pdf thumbnail of th actual document. When reviewing hundreds of PDF's in windows explorer, this is a necessity. Why was this a standard installed option on Adobe 7 and then lost in version 8 and 9. This has to be a program glitch. This is becoming more and more of an important issue in my office as time goes on.
Please note that I AM NOT referring to seeing thumbnail views from within acrobat. This is a simple option that I know how to enable. I need to see them from a ile explorer window.
Thanks so much in advance for any help.

I've had Acrobat 8 on XP for quite some time and all my thumbnails in Explorer were showing the first page, but then a couple of weeks ago I uninstalled some older versions of Acrobat in a bit of a clean up and suddenly I was just left with the icons. Disaster - I too have hundreds of pdf files and seeing the colour of the front page before I open a file saves me so much time.
Loading Reader didn't work for me (sorry Mike) but I found some advice in another thread to try running Repair Acrobat Installation under the help menu, then restarting. Success!!! All my thumbnails are back as I need them.

  • Thumbnails in Windows Explorer

Some pdfs that I download show in Windows Explorer with a thumbnail on the icon itself. Mine show in the Preview pane, but not on the icon. How can I make pdfs that show a thumbnail on the icon in Explorer? I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro on Windows 7.

  • Problem saving PSD explorer icons/thumbnails - video

         Hello,
I have a setting problem with CS5 and I'm really lost.
At some time in the past when I saved a psd file I would have an icon or thumbnail in explorer. No it doesn't save those thumbs. Actually it saves them but they appear to be corrupt.
I'm running win7 and I have a dll (don't remember which one) that allows for the preview thumb in explorer so I know it's an issue with cs5.
    Here's a 1 minute vid showing what's up.
Can anyone lend a guy a hand?
    Doug

Yes it was sage. I just did a quick search from the start menu, up popped a 'repair sage'. Gave that a go but no change.
I don't think it is sage because I can still see older saved files and their thumbs, but, once I open and resave the thumb disappears.
As for Bridge, I'll be honest I don't know how bridge works and have never used it.
Just noticed one of the thumbs did change, I preview it irfran and the thumb image says that it wasn't saved with a "composite image".

  • File preview thumbnails aren't working for Acrobat DC files in Windows Explorer

I just upgraded from Acrobat XI to Acrobat DC on Windows 7, and now any new PDFs I create display with a generic PDF icon rather than a thumbnail preview of the file.  Files created in Acrobat XI are displaying correctly (see screenshot).  Is anyone else experiencing this and is there a resolution?

    jzawada wrote:
    This is still not working.
I have uninstalled Acrobat Pro DC, but when I go to the linked download page, select Acrobat XI Pro, and click the button which says "Download Acrobat XI Pro," it begins to download Acrobat Pro DC.
Does a link need to be updated or something...?
Previous versions of Acrobat can be found on Adobe's FTP website. Acrobat XI Pro for Windows is at ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/11.x/11.0.10/ (latest version)
Acrobat Reader XI for Windows is at ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.10/
Choose your language from the appropriate subdirectory.
Other platforms are available higher up in the directory structure.
If running Windows, it helps to reboot your computer after removing Acrobat DC to remove any remaining files.
After reinstalling Adobe XI or Adobe Reader XI, you can restore your PDF thumbnails by going to File->Open and viewing the selected directory contents. Thumbnails will be recreated as you view them in the list. You don't actually have to open any file. To view the thumbnails in Explorer or on the Desktop, you may have to refresh the display (F5 or Ctrl-F5 or right-click, Refresh).

  • DNG files created with LR4 no longer display thumbnails w/ FastPictureViewer & Win7

I've been using the FastPictureViewer Codec pack so that DNG and camera RAW files show as thumbnails in Explorer for quite some time. Upon upgrading to LR4, DNG files no longer display as thumbnails, but as the generic Windows icon for an image.
Upon researching the issue, and upgrading the Codecs from the supplier (which still did not fix the issue), the supplier tells me the following:
What we solved [in the update] was a crash with the new files. Adobe did not document their
changes, so there is not much we can do except ignore the files. This is
what happens when owners of proprietary formats decide to change stuff
    without notice
If you turn off the "fast load" and "lossy" options the DNG will still be
created following the published 1.3 specification and will work with 3rd
    party software including ours.
The "new DNGs" are for Adobe private use only at the moment. We don't know
(beyond vague promises on employees personal blogs) if they will ever
document what they did and publish an updated specification, they are
certainly under no obligation to do so. The decision they took not to
release updated DNG specs even before LR4 came out was a deliberate one.
While I resolved the problem by turning "fast load" off, I find it highly disturbing that Adobe has made undocumented changes to the DNG format that break 3rd party software. I thought the whole idea of DNG was that it was an OPEN FORMAT and was to prevent situations such as this. At least this is how they sold it to the public and their argument against "proprietary camera manufactuer RAW formats" that could "change at any time".

Actually JS, RAW files converted to DNG with fast load checked from LR4.0 are read, thumbnails and full images are displayed in preview and with Finder in OSX Lion 10.7.3, along with keywords, EXIF data etc. I don't know whether the preview is the RAW or the fast loaded jpeg
    Not that it helps you
Adobe mentioned that they will be making the 1.3 data specs available in the next couple of months, I canna remember the link offhand, and it was a formal post, not an employee blog
Life changes, things upgrade, that is the way of things, but it is very frustrating.

  • Thumbnail images will not appear for downloaded videos!

Until about a month and a half ago, whenever I downloaded a video to my computer, a thumbnail image always appeared on the video menu. But now, all that appears is the logo for the media player I have installed.
From the web pages I have read, it seems that the installation of the one of the recent versions of Adobe Flash Player has caused this problem, but I don't know this for sure.
I have tried to uninstall and then reinstall both AFP and the media player several times already, but the problem still exists.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this problem? All answers appreciated. Thank you.

You *might* want to try one of the solutions listed here:
    http://techsalsa.com/view-flv-3gp-and-other-video-thumbnails-in-explorer/
I'd recommend googling a bit for "enable flv thumbnail windows explorer" to see what you can find.

  • PDF Thumbnails disapear after installed CS3 on XP-Vista

here is the problem, we have adobe reader on all our computer in the company, we are a printing company so PDF is the file of choice in our workflow. we have CS-CS3 installed on XP,Vista and 2003(automation server)
Everyone who has only Reader installed can see thumbnails in explorer XP and Vista of the PDF.
Problem is in the Prepress dept where CS3 is installed, As soon as CS3 gets installed on XP or Vista the Thumbnails stop working. (never worked on the mac osX but not an issue 3rd party software fixed that)
Why? if they worked before CS3 when only reader was installed..
Did Adobe disable PDF thumbnails as soon as you install the Creative Suite. Is this an Issue with just my company? lol
This is really a user complaint I have to deal with every day from employees in Prepress. "Why Can't I see a preview of the file in explorer before I open them"
I hear that it was because Psicon.dll and aiicon.dll were taken out due to problems... but why does it work with only reader installed which doesn't use those?
any ideas? I think If I keep hearing them complain I'll make em all use Scribus and inkscape for a week. hehe.

The thumbnails on my vista system are also not showing properly. It is very strange because I do have a SINGLE sole thumbnail of a pdf file displaying properly but the rest of my pdf files are all generic red acrobat icon. I am determined to get to the bottom of this as I have tons of ebooks and pdf files that I need to view in thumbnail format.
The roxio forum were also talking about loosing thumbnails in vista's explorer. The techs there claim its a vista problem and will wait till MS addresses the issues. However, I am not completely convinced.
The fact that we seen it work partially with some systems and the fact that I can generate a single thumbnail tells me there is more to it than meets the eye.
I suspect a registry tweak will solve all the problems.
Here's what I found so far.
On my XP system the thumbs works perfectly.
In the taskmanager I noticed that there is an auxiliary component
    to acrobat that runs along side with the main executable;
"AcroRd32Info.exe" this file is what causes explorer to generate the thumbnails and is triggered only when the mouse hovers over an acrobat file.
With Vista Biz, I noticed that in taskmanager the AcroRd32Info.exe is missing. When I attempt to manually run this file, it fails to run with no error message. So my next guess is that some service might be blocking the exe from running or got disable during some tweaking.
I have another system that is identical to mine and brand new. I will test further. If someone can verify if AcroRd32Info.exe runs in there vista taskmanager and see the thumbnails appears or not that would be great.
    Thanks
    al
