Thumbnails in Iphoto appears normal, full resolution picture missing

Hi guys,
I have been browsing the forum for hours trying to have this sorted without any success.
Im using an updated version of Iphoto.
A warning triangle appears for some of my photos in Iphoto from last year. The thumbnails are displaying as normal.
* I have tried to rebuild the library from Iphoto but only some photos seems to have been repaired
* I have tried to rebuild the library from Iphoto library manager but it also only repaired some photos
* In my master file, it only displays files dating back to August 2013. My missing files are from beginning of June, however I have older photos that are working fine which i can't find in the master file. There are also other photos from June and July working fine.
* The option 'revert to original' which has worked for some users is not clickable on my missing photos
* All newer photos seems to be working as normal.
Any ideas would be appreciated!

Give this a try:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
1. Open the library package like this.
2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Saving Full Resolution Pictures on a DVD

I am making a DVD and have a question about putting JPG files on the DVD. I made a DVD movie that contains a video and a slideshow movie that I made in iPhoto. I know in iDVD you have the option of saving full resolution pictures on the DVD disk but I am not sure how to do this in DVD Studio Pro. In iDVD there is a simple option you select.
I was going to use iDVD however, I want to have a movie play as soon as the DVD is inserted and then have it go to the main menu and I am not sure if you can do that with iDVD.
There must be a simple way to put the full resolution pictures on the DVD so that one could get them later with a computer. I contemplated just making a separate manual advancing slideshow in DVD Studio Pro but I was not sure if the full size files would be stored or if they are encoded. Also, if one wanted to print off some of the pictures how would they do that?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Just click on the disk icon in the outline view window, then go to the general tab of the inpector and toward the bottom of the window check off the DVD-ROM content button and navigate to the folder that contains the folder of the content you want to include.

  • IWeb and full resolution pictures for download

I finally got a good camera and wanted to share those glorious 12MP (3-4MByte) pictures via iWeb. I'd not paid much attention before now, but iWeb is fond of "optimizing" and reducing the size of pictures in order to save space and improve upload and download times. Even if you uncheck "optimize" in preferences, and select "download full resolution" in the photo inspector, I've found that some times you get the full multi-megabyte picture, then for reasons unknown to me, most other pictures have been reduced from 1/4 to 1/10 the original file size and the resolution has been reduced, say form 3000x4000 pixel to 768x1024 (seems arbitrary ...).
How to deal with this. Nothing direct that I can find: uncheck optimize works for a bit, them reverts; full size download refers to the size after such "optimizing." I think it's a bug, but maybe others think it's a feature.
My indirect work around: use your public folder on idisk in me.com. Create a folder structure to mirror your iWeb picture album structure to simplify life for your guest. Password protect it if you want some privacy.
Then go ahead and let iWeb optimize, and select the download size you want (maybe "medium" is fine for some users, for example).
But include on each picture or album page a hyperlink to your me.com public folder: the link will look something like https://public.me.com/<your me.com name here>. If you've specified a password, it will be requested when someone uses the link. I don't think there is any finer grain hyperlink available to your public folder - for example, to the sub folders you create to mirror your album structure.
The public idisk options are in preferences in idisk on iWeb.
If you only want to share a few pictures, it may be easier for the user to share individual file with a similar hyper link set up for each one using link outside the picture container object (can't be inside), or for each picture on the detail page (the comment, such as the image name, can be made a clickable element (hyper link). If you have tens or more pictures to share at once, this method is pretty inconvenient.
The sharing options for individual files are available when you select file via idisk in me.com
So, there it is. Hope this suggestion helps someone.

PS: Yes, I've offered feedback to Apple about this lack of flexibility in iWeb.

If you only want to share a few of the larger files zip them and put them in a folder titled Pictures in your iDisk/Web/Sites folder. Then create a thumbnail or text hyperlink to them at http://web.me.com/MMeAccount_Name/Pictures/FileName. That way they will immediately download when the link is selected.
A viewable version of the photo can be placed on the page and linked to the larger zipped version on your iDisk.

  • Is there a way to copy full resolution pictures to ipad from my mac via usb or sd connection kit?

I would like to copy my pictures to my ipad 2 at full resolution, partily for editing, partily for backup.  I have used some of the wifi ipad apps out there and they all seem to be problematic and load up the camer roll.  I have the sd and usb camera connection kit put out by apple and this works great as long as the pics are in their original file name (for some reason).
I would love to be able to just use the usb camera connection kit plug and copy all of these over in their folders ect.  But I realize that may not be possible at this time.
    Is their another easier way?

Syncing them via iTunes (and via Photo Stream in the Cloud) will 'optimise' them, so you will either need to use one of the wifi-transfer apps (in which case they will go into the Camera Roll) or the camera connection kit (when they will go into an 'imported' album). For the CCK and you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them.
I haven't tried any, but there may be third-party apps that you could use to store and keep the same file organisation of your photos.

  • Thumbnails are there, but no full size pictures......

I can see the thumbnail image in the organize tab, but when I click on the image to edit, I have a blank edit window.
I noticed that the pictures have file names such as: 674, 675 but, without the .jpg extension.
    Any help out there?
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   iPhoto 4.0.3

Rebuild the photo library database by restarting iPhoto while holding the option+shift keys until you're prompted to confirm your intentions. Click "Yes", then click "Save". If you have a large collection, it may take a few minutes to scan and copy the files in your corrupt iPhoto Library folder. You may lose some album or roll associations and possibly some keyword assignments.

  • Full Resolution vs Optimized - Single Photos

I understand how to change from optimized vs full resolution pictures with the new iCloud options in 8.1. Let's say I want just a few pictures to be full resolution so I can share/send them to someone? I can just select some and download in full? Looking to do this on my iPhone or iPad.
    Thanks!

As far as I know, it's all or nothing; you can't choose to just keep selected photos in full resolution on your device.  You would have to download the photos you want to share from your iCloud photo library on icloud.com to your computer, then email them in order to share them in full resolution.  (Note: sharing photos using an iCloud shared photo album (http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmc0cd7e99) are not full resolution originals.  Photos added to a shared album are "optimized" rather than full resolution.)

  • Just upgraded to Flickr Pro: How to reupload full res pictures from Aperture

    Hi,
I've been exporing the Aperture sync feature with my Flickr Account for some time now and finally decided to get Flickr Pro. As I already have some albums synced, I'd like to reupload the full resolution picture to Flickr now from Aperture. Can somebody please explain how to do this? I don't want to delete my current albums and create new ones ... I hope there is somewhere an option to reupload the ful res pictures.
    Thanks,

See if you can get your hands on a firewire cable, and another Mac. If so, target disk mode should solve your problems.

    Where is this library stored?

  • How to fix lost connections to original high-resolution pictures in iPhoto and how to import an iPhoto Book from one iPhoto library to another

    Hi there,
I am using a MBP Pro with 8 GB cache and 1 TB HDD from beginning of 2011 with OS X Yosemite and iPhoto version 9.6 (910.29).
I created an iPhoto Book to print which contains my best pictures of 2013 and 2014. Then I got an error message when I wanted to print the book, saying (translated from German):
    Book could not be created.
With photo p233432343.jpg there was an error. The original version of that photo with full resolution could not be found or is damaged. Please replace the photo or delete it from your book.
When I enquired further, I found out, that many, many pictures in my iPhoto library have that problem - only the thumbnail picture is found by iPhoto, but not the one with the high resolution. When looking at the photos in detail one sees that they are not sharp because obviously the photo book only refers to the thumbnail. When I went into the iPhoto Library using Finder, I saw that the original high res photos are still there. As there are an estimated 3000 photos with a lost connection (some still have, it but about 1/2 of my photos don´t), it does not make sense to import those photos manually. This photo book is just the tip of the iceberg, so to say.
Then I looked for solutions in some forums. I had two lPhoto libraries, one on my HDD (120GB) and one on an external HDD (175GB). Assuming there might be problems, I have deleted (moved) the one on my HDD, because the "right one" is the one on my external HDD and started iPHoto again using the alt key. But that did not work either.
I then tried to repair my iPhoto library using iPhoto Library Manager, and merged and rebuilt libraries. The library that came out was crap - all folders that had lost connections to the high resolution pictures now have zero photos in it. Also it is lacking the projects, including the photo book I created.
Then I went to find out if there is a way to import the iphoto book project from the old, corrupt library into the new, repaired library but could not find anything. It can only be exported as a file structure or website. As the file structure is missing the high res pictures, that does not even solve the "little" problem of the photobook.
I would REALLY appreciate your help on the two questions:
1- Can you advise what I need to to do to to get the connection to the high resolution photos established again  ? As it is more than 3000 photos, I use an automated way of reestablishing that connection. Probably an answer to this question would make question 2 irrelevant.
2- Do you know if there is a way to export and import a book project created in iPhoto from one library to another ?

1 - Select  the thumbnail of one of the problem photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option.  This will take you to the folder containing the original file with that file selected by the Finder.
You can also use Find Any File to search for that file (get the file name from the Info pane in iPhoto). You will find the thumbnail version and maybe an edited version also.  Made sure what is found is the large, original version and note were it's located.  Search all of your drives with FAF just in case.
If you don't fine the full sized version then the only recourse is to use a file recovery application like   SubrosaSoft FileSalvage on your drives to see if any of your full sized photos can be recovered.   If you find enough files to make the purchase of the software worthwhile buy it and recover the files.  However, since it may have been quite a while since you discovered the missing originals it seems unlikely you'll be able to recover any due to being overwritten.
2 - book projects are just entries in the library databases and can't be exported to another library.

  • Iphoto 6 toolbar stopped appearing in full screen (mouse moved to bottom)

I have iPhoto 6.6 on an iMac core duo running osx 10.4.11. While it formerly worked correctly, now the toolbar no longer appears when the cursor is moved to the bottom of the screen in full screen edit mode.
    I have determined the following:
The problem exists only in my main account (and only recently appeared) but works correctly in other accounts. In my main account I have tried the following, singly and in combinations:
Create a new iPhoto library, remove the iPhoto preferences file, login with the shift key down to disable login items, removed the /Library/Contextual menu items folder. None of these corrected the problem. In full screen edit mode, menu item View->Show Toolbar does show the toolbar. However, when the toolbar is hidden, it still does not automatically show when the cursor is moved to the bottom of the screen. Switching to other screen sizes does not correct the problem. The menu at the top of the screen does automatically appear when the cursor is moved to the top of the screen.
The term "main account" refers to an account in which I do my routine work. It does not have administrator privileges. I have other accounts on this system, including one just for admin.
Since the toolbar automatically appears in other accounts, I assume that some data in my account has been corrupted. It appears not to be the iphoto library or preferences file since I have replaced these, or any startup item since I have disabled these.
What else in my account could cause iPhoto to not correctly determine when the cursor is at the bottom of the screen? Or to otherwise cause this problem?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
ince the toolbar automatically appears in other accounts, I assume that some data in my account has been corrupted.
It could be a preference file other than iPhoto's that's interfering with iPhoto. This will tell you if that's the case:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the Desktop and make a second copy of it so you have Copy A and B. Now try the the process again and determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up.
Open Copy B on the Desktop and select all of the items inside. Drag them into the open new library folder. When the Copy window comes up check the Apply to All check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here. That will keep the new files created and bring back all of the others.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the intact Copy A folder back to the Library folder .
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
