Thumbnails in PSE9 organiser on Mac

The thumbnails in organiser appear as egg timers when there is more than one on view. When the thumbnails first appear there is a message "generating thumbnails" at the bottom of the organiser window. Enlarging the thumbnail to one per page, slider to the right, the thumbnail egg timer size increases and then the image appears. Jpegs display fine and smaller size raw files also display correctly. The files in question are from a EOS7d. I run pse9 on a pc with no problem. Is ther a preference I've set that is causing this?

I've been adjusting the size of the thumbnails and have found that if I have five or less columns of thumbnails on the screen that they do display okay. As the screen on my pc(notebook) is relatively small I wouldn't have had more than five columns in the organiser and so wouldn't have seen the problem. Thanks Barbara for trying and I hope this posting assists someone else.

  • PSE9 Organiser question

I am having a problem with the order of thumbnails from downloaded images into PSE9 Organiser.
I take a RAW file plus a JPEG for each image. Up to now, in this and previous versions of the Organiser, images downloaded have shown both the RAW and JPEG for each image next to each other in the thumbnails, which I find convenient.
Recently, using the same camera and version of PSE, the thumbnails have been appearing with all the JPEGs in a group, followed by all the RAW files in a second group. With perhaps 100 or more photos in each batch I find this difficult. I have searched 'Preferences' and any other heading I can think of without finding a way of changing this back to how it was.
    Can anyone help? - Thanks.

To save anyone wasting their time answering this, I think I have found the problem and it is not related to software.
Some time back I set the camera to automatic daylight saving time. The time clock duly altered the time by one hour, but continued to show the original time for the jpeg images, hence the separation of batches.

  • Thumbnails Broken in Elements 11 (Mac User)

I installed Photoshop Elements 11 (with Camera Raw 7.4 update) onto my Mac (OS 10.7.5).  Thumbnails do not display correclty.  Some display just a generic image.  Even new photos (from Canon T5i) do not display thumbnails correctly.  The thumbnails for new pictures are just a generic "CR2" image.  Why would Adobe put out a product with impaired functionality?  Any thoughts on fixes?

Thanks, Barbara.  I tried these, but no luck.  "F5" does nothing for a selected thumbnail.  There is no "Refresh" tab in the "View" dropdown menu; in fact, I am unable to select anything in the "View" dropdowns even after highlighting one of  generic thumbnails.  Maybe your suggestions are solutions for PC users?
Any other thougths for Mac users?  This is a particlaurly maddening issue because the Camera Raw 7.4 update is specifically designated by Adobe as supporting the new Canon T5i, but thumbnails for current pictures from that camera will not display (as well as many older thumbnails).  Why would Adobe specifically designate this product as supporting the Canon T5i, but not support what would seem to be the most simple and mundane of tasks: thumbnail display?  I have read in the forums that Elements 11 will not produce thumbnails for larger picture files (at least for Mac users, apparently Windows Explorer users do not have this problem).  But knowing that the new cameras produce ever-larger raw files, why would Adobe impose that limitation?  It seems completely counter-intuitive and an anachrostic limitation given where software and file size is headed these days.
I have older versions of Elements (versions 8 and 10) on the machine.  Elements 8 never interfered with 10, but maybe now they interfere with 11?
Anyone have any other suggestions?  Any one else have this problem?

  • Corrupt thumbnails in PSE9 Organizer

    Hi All,
I have been putting up with an issue for the last few weeks but I've had enough.  For some reason the thumbnails of images I have edited in elements appear as a default thumbnail of a photo torn in half in the organiser.  The information relevant to each image appears below it and I can still open the image in elements to work on it, I just can't see it in the organiser.  Any images I haven't done any work on still show up properly, it is only when I adjust something that I am getting no love.  I have had the software installed on my computer for nearly 12 months and this problem started suddenly about 2 months ago.
Anyone else had a similar issue or know how to fix it?
    Cheers,
    Sam

  • How to move photos to external harddrive with Photoshop Elements Organiser 9 - Mac user

I have managed to move a few photos using the organiser to an external harddrive as a trial but noticed that the photos are all stored straight onto the external harddrive and not kept in the subfolders that they are in on my harddrive. Is there a way to keep them in the subfolders - which is basically mostly folders indicating the date they were taken?
I also noticed that PSE 9 organiser is very slow - I have a lot of photos and a lot in raw - about 21000. Is it better to use LR to catalogue them?
Last question, has anyone else experienced problems since upgrading to Mavericks when using PSE9? Is there a fix? I read that upgrading to Yosemite has improved how PSE9 works but after my previous experience with upgrading to Mavericks I am not in a rush to upgrade.
    Thanks

  • Why is PSE9 organiser taking so long?

    Hi,
I'm new to Photoshop and have just installed and added my photo collection in the organiser.
But why does it take so long to start up and when I've been looking at a slide show and return to the organiser it takes ages before I can do anything! all i get is a spinning orb for about a 2 minutes... it's very frustrating.
Is there some setting I have wrong... I read somewhere to turn off all analysis which I have but it's made no difference... any ideas? I'm running Windows 7 with 8gb Ram and i3 processor.

The PSE organizer has become a bloated pig of a program. It's normally s slow as molassas on a Winter's day.
However, 10 or 12 thousand photos is not the problem. I don't know if the new SQLite database even has  limit on the number of photos it can manage. 32 GBs of images is actually a fairly small catalog.
PSCS 4 and above are 64 bit programs, so can  access the full amount of installed RAM as long as the OS is 64 bit also. I expect that you have 64 bit Windows 7, but it probably wouldn't have hurt to mention it.
That notwithstanding, I don't know if PSE 9 installs as an x86 program, (32 bit), or an x64 program, (64 bit). Running an x86 program, I'm not sure if the 4GB total memory address capability of a 32 bit OS can be exceeded. My point here is, although you may have 8 GB of installed RAM, you most likely can't utilize it running 32 bit programs.
In the Editor "Preferences" dialog box, under "Performance", you can set the amount of RAM PSE is allowed to use. While I think this only affects the editor, it will tell you how much RAM PSE thinks is available to it.
LittlePaleFace said....."Some of the older versions of the organiser could run quite slowly but I thought the later databases were more efficient".
They aren't! PSE-5 will import photos and generate thumbnails at a rate of 3 to 4 times the speed of PSE-7!

Click on the Album and hit the F11 key and you have an instant slideshow in full screen, including captions if desired".
Continuing on in the spirit of bringing the mountain to Mohammed, since most later motherboards have HDMI video outputs, it's quite easy to just slap an HDMI cable betwen your desktop and HiDef TV, and not bother "printing" the set of images to disk at all.
The Core i3 integrated graphics will drive dual monitors, but they suggest you drop the output resolution to 720p instead of full 1080p

  • PSE9 Organiser gives runtime error

I am running PSE 9 trial version, have just done update 9.0.1 and now the organiser won't run, giving the error "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error"
I have applied the patch from MS, which has not helped, I have uninstalled and re-installed PSE9 and not done the upgrade but the error remains (although it wasn't there before I did the upgrade the first time around, so presumably uninstalling PSE9 did not uninstall its upgrade!)
BTW, Editor seems fine, although I haven't given it a full work out.
So, is this fixable or do I try Paint Shop?
    Cheers.
PSE Info file: is 4 pages long!
    Windows XP SP3
    MSVCP71.dll
    MSVCR71.dll

I've been chasing this for 8 months - first with PSE 8 and now with PSE 9, both on a Windows 7 Home Premium x64 machine.  One detail, mine appears in the Editor.  I can launch into the Organizer fine and print from there.  But if I attempt to do anything that invokes editor function I get the MS Visual C++ Runtime error.
After chasing it for  6 months in PSE 8 I decided to give 9 a try.  All was well for about 2 months to-the-day, then it started just like it did in PSE 8.
With PSE 8 a complete un-install including registry cleanup using several Adobe cleaner tools, a clean boot install would restore everything just fine, for about 2 months.  Then it would come back.  So I hoped the fix would be in 9.  I was wrong.
I am now at Level 2 support with Adobe Tech Support, and they aren't making any progress.  So far here is what has been done:
    1. Delete the preferences file.
    2. Install and run from a new User account.
    3. Run from a Clean Boot.
    4. Run in Safe mode
    5. Remove all files in the Windows/twain32 folder (FYI - twain32 is supposed to be dead in PSE 9 anyway).
    6. Run sfc/scannow from an Administrator prompt (no problems, 100% verification without any violation).
    7. Download and install latest Visual C++ Runtime Library from Microsoft (w/ SP1).
    8. Run again from a Clean Boot.
None of these have made any change.
My sense is that there is a file within the PSE suite that gets corrupted.  Furthermore, the program seems to be self corrupting, meaning that if you reinstall and get it back, it will eventually corrupt itself again.  Which file that is (there are so many) is anyone's guess.  Adobe tech support is basically clueless.
From my prior experience with PSE 8 on this machine I know I can remove, cleanup (not easy) and reinstall PSE 9 and be good for 4-12 weeks, then it will return.  If Adobe's support folks can't find the issue and resolve it, then I will quickly become a Corel customer-  been using PS products for over 10 years but both the problem and the Tech Support responses have been very disappointing.
So far going through Level 2 the support folks have used 4 days.  They have 3 more before I pull the plug on this behemoth POS!

  • Extract thumbnails from PE7 Organiser

Recently an external drive failed irrecoverably and I lost a lot of photographs. However, even though the photos are no longer on the system, PE7 Organiser still displays thumbnails of them.  I want to extract these from Organiser into separate thumbnail-sized jpegs (or whatever) so that I have a low-res record of the pictures I have lost.  Obvously I can store each pageful on the clipboard and manually crop each thumbnail out and save it,  but I had hoped there was a more efficient way. I can program in VB and C++ so if I can locate the file in which the thumbnails are stored, I can probably write something to extract them.
Can someone tell me where PE7 Organiser stores the thumbnails?

    @dj_paige:
Hmmm... well, if PE can read the cache file, then so can any program that knows how the file is laid out -  but finding that out might be quite a task, unless some helpful Adobe employee can point me to the appropriate literature!

  • PSE9 on Mac - Duplicates Not Detected on Import

When I use PSE9 on a Mac, the Organizer doesn't seem to recognize files that are already in its catalog and will reimport them. E.g., import a bunch of photos from an SD card then perform the action again - I find that PSE9 will import the photos each time even the files are already in the catalog. PSE9 on the PC behave as I would expect (and want) and will refuse to import the duplicates. Has anyone else seen this? Any way around it?
    thanks

Tried importing from folder but not an issue. Will check from sd card also but have never heard of any such issue. You can try resetting the preferences. More info is also at link http://forums.adobe.com/thread/801014. Also try importing in new catalog and then check. Just reset all the settings to default. It pops up a dialog box if we try to import already existing files in catalog.

  • Word for Mac. Duplicate/Delete Selection from Thumbnails

I love my Pages, but the people who are using the documents I create are Word only. How can I duplicate and delete Selections from the Thumbnail Sidebar in Word for Mac? And how can they do the same thing in regular Word on their PC?

OK, well, a quick web search turned up this:
    http://mac.microsoft.com/help/office/12/en-us/word/item/f37a450f-f847-489e-b0da- b69df48cd740
    That should help.
For future questions, you should generally ask in the most appropriate hardware or Mac OS X forum. You'll be more likely to get help that way. This forum is for questions about the Communities themselves.
    Regards.

  • Deleting thumbnails from Organiser

If I delete thumbnails from the Organiser main window, the same thumbnails are also deleted from my Collections and tagged files.
Is it necessary for the Organiser to work that way or am I missing something? I just wanted to have less thumnnails to scroll through and once they are tagged it seemed logical to delete the thumbnails from the main window.
    Thanks
    John

    John,
In addition to suggestions such as using a Show tag, it seems that for some cases the Find menu choice of "find untagged items" might be useful for you.
Another general comment is that you probably do not want to place all photos in Collections. I use Collections to make specific arrangements of photos for specific purposes like a slide show. If I have photos from an event like a family birthday party, I make a Tag for the event and then also apply people tags. Only when I am ready to use the photos for something like a slide show where I also want to control sequence, do I make a Collection.
Sometimes people start by using a Collection instead of a Tag for an Event. A Tag has more flexibilty for searching and is therefore almost always better for identification of the photos.

  • PSE9 evaluation - purchased

Staring mid September when PSE9 first came out, I have posted a number of notes here re my thoughts and a couple of bugs, so I thought I should note that I have in fact purchased it before the eval ran out.
Here are my notes on the status and reasons ...
I have just purchased it -- at the cost, it was not worth NOT doing that.
I still have the following issues, but I can work around them
On PRINT the custom size changes with each printing -- gets smaller each time, so I have to reset it each use
On PRINT the "Copies of each image" count appears to be ignored in  some cases.  This occurs in one of two ways and only one some printers  (e.g. my Canon ip4600)
    is totally ignored
does not show on the preview but does in fact print the multiple (at least when printing 1 photo per page, e.g. 8x10)
Three times now when I went to edit a photo (from NEF) it came up  in ACR 6.2 as black-and-white and stayed that way until I removed the  .xmp file - not enough information yet to identify exactly what happened
    A number of irritations I can live with -- e.g. ...
liked the darker PSE7 (with ability to adjust the overall tone)
does not remember where I was last, always shows me the first photos in my catalog
panels in the editor keep changing on me (location, size etc) -- particularly when using a multi-desktop utility and switching dekstops
due to the custom window management and drawing, its unusable over RDP or other remote mechanism
My main reason for moving to PSE9 (from 7) was really to keep  up-to-date, not particularly for any of the improvements, although some  of the improvements in the editor will make life a bit simpler.
This is my last note on PSE9 evaluation

    Evaluation Prolonged several years.
I too have purchased PSE9 for the Mac   I skipped PSE8 and reluctantly have almost given up PSE6
    comments on PSE9 are:
         • PSE9 printing colour management works with Snow Leopard  PSE6 did not   therefore buy was mandatory
         * PSE9 has been crippled in the print screen and is now very difficult to use.  Layouts, sizing, print profiles etc.
         * the organiser is not much use to those who through the years have set up a system for handling many many photos and prints.  maybe new buyers will find it helpfull
My main issue in PSE9  is simply the print screen.....  I print a lot of giclees with different papers different sizes and must have the flexability.  CS5 has been crippled by Adobe in the Print screen too and is also too expensive and PSE9's functionality is all I need.
Because of a small bug in the printing process not a ( PSE issueI) still go back to  10.5.8 for printing   see this thread...
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3172530#3172530
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3172635#3172635
I should mention the print problems only show up on some printer profiles by some suppliers   I have one from Legion MOEB that works all the time on snow leopard as do epson's own profiles.  but I use better papers than epson's and must have special profiles.
I use PSE9 for all the raw work, set up and then save image and go to back up compute rrunning 10.5.8 and print (thus I also avoid PSE9,s crippled print screen)
    cheers elo

  • Synced mail between Macs ......  Once and for all help me understand.

    Hi guys,
Ok, I've been a Mac user for over 8 years but I have to admit I've never really understood how to best organise my Mac Mail.
I have a Mac Mini and a Macbook Air and I choose to keep all mail in folders "on my mac". Both the Mini and the Air have matching folders.
I don't tend to store mail in folders in ".Mac"... or .Me (online) as I prefer it stored on my hard drive.
Problem here is that when I store an email in a folder on say the Mini... it obviously doesn't apperar in the matching folder on the Air. They are not synced as they are store on their individual hard drives.
My question...... is there a way to sync these two computers and their mail folders? ... or is the only way to save everything to .Mac on both computers and not "on my mac"?
Isn't there a risk that .Mac could loose all my mail?

I have Mac Pro and MacBook Pro. I keep all mail on both machines by:
    1. Mac Pro set to leave mail on server for 7 days. MBP set to never delete from server. That means all mail is always downloaded to both machines. You may prefer/need longer or shorter. Having the MBP set to never delete means that if I am away from base, the Mac Pro will still always get all mail.
    2. Out going Mail set on both machines to bcc myself. This means all sent mail gets to both machines whichever machine it was sent from.
    3. Mail rules on each machine put any incoming mail from myself into sent folder. This means all mail I send ends up in the sent folders whichever machine it was sent from.
Seems to work fairly well. Maintenance has to done on each machine separately, and you have two copies of sent mail on the machine it was sent from.
