Thumbnails in Safari Vanish

Are the thumbnails in the multiple page view in Safari on the IPod touch supposed to stick around? My previews vanish (and the corresponding thumbnails go blank) randomly (after a period of inactivity, or after browsing). Sometimes they stick around for a while for several pages, other times they all vanish suddenly after browsing a bit and returning to the multi-page thumbnail view.
Is this a common problem. It occurs all the time for me and just seems to be the way Safari "works".

I'm having the exact same problem as yourself! It's kinda irritating cos when I go back to another window, I have to wait for the things to reload all over again. Currently on the 1.1.1 firmware.

I mean, when I open my Safari's top sites, i can see all my top sites with their respective pictures/thumbnails except for the facebook and twitter pages.

  • Cant zoom into thumbnails in safari browser

I want to upload images to a website, however the thumbnails are too small to clearly see the image. I thought there was a slide bar to zoom in and out, I can find this on the finder.
But when in safari, firefox or chrome, when I click browse there is no option to zoom in on the thumbnails.
    Can anyone please help?

Me too I have this problem, if I want to upload a picture to the web the thumbnails are so small I often mistake and upload the wrong one. I have been looking for a solution with no luck. it's incredible they put the size slider in the finder but not in the safari browse window where you actually really need it! you can't even right click the thumbnails to open them with another aplication and browse them form there...the only way is to create an alias on the desktop and browse the folder from there than remember the name of the pic you want to upload go back to safari and search for it in the safari browse window...any better idea? did they fix this in lion?

  • All of my top sites thumbnails in Safari are blank

My thumbnails on the top sites in Safari are blank, but the links works perfectly.
I've followed the suggestion in this thread without any result: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18343208#18343208
Resetting the cache has neither helped. I don't know what to do.
    I'm using:
    OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    Safari 6.0.2
    Please see the picture.

Hi This is a bit late for an answer but I've just taken possession of a new MBP and was browsing the forums as I have a few issues too.  On this topic my thumbnails werre all blank to start with but as I have used the sites they have slowly returmed until now they are fine.  My issue is with Preview.  I used to be able to combine PDFs after scanning but now?  I'll need to post this question elsewhere methinks.
Hope things work out for you

  • Lost the thumbnails in safari top sites homepage.

Ok, confession time... I think I actually turned them off playing around with a free trial of Cocktail.
Then, the next time I launched cocktail, it told me I had reached the end of my free trial and wouldn't let me do anything, i hadn't even realiseed that I was on a time limit!
So, now when I launch a new safari page the thumbnails have been replaced by black spaces weith the little compass icon
Well, I don't actually need Cocktail and I don't want to spend the money. Also I'm thinking, if Cocktail can turn them off, there must be a terminal cmd to turn them back on.
    Any ideas?

Yes, I've seen this reply to other people who've asked a similar question, but I can swear that until yesterday I was seeing a page with '+' signs on it when I opened a new tab.
And I'm running Safari on iPad with iOS6.0.1...
    Just saying is all...

  • Photo stream "public website" in Internet Explorer - photo thumbnail's are gray, individual photo view is fine. Tested from various computers. No issue with Firefox, Safari or Chrome.

    Dear All,
Recently I have started to use Photo Stream available from iCloud on iPhone device. I have made “test” photo stream with several photos in and set to “public website” in order to share photos with my relatives.
The issue is with Internet Explorer where list of photos (thumbnails) are shown in gray color. I can view photo one by one and slideshow also works fine.
On other computers IE behaves the same way.
    https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A2532ODWsAl87
No issue with photo list in thumbnails using Safari, Chrome or Firefox.
Can someone help on this issue?
It is very convenient to share photos via photo stream, but most of viewers by default has IE and many of them don’t have iCould account or apple device.
    Kind regards,
    M

    Dear safari rss
Indeed, you are right, I have updated IE to version 10 and no issue with page view.
Solution woud be to update IE to version 10 (I have not tested IE9).
However users using Windows XP can have highest IE version 8. IE9 or IE10 is not suported in XP.
Unfortunatelly there are still many windows XP at my friends circle.
    Thank you,
    Best regards

  • How do I Open Multiple Safari Windows on iPad 2?

Prior to iOS 5, I was able to open multuple Safari windows.  Now it's one window with a handful of tabs.
How do I open multiple windows?

Tho old view of several thumbnails has been replaced by tabs. There is no way to view the thumbnails in Safari under iOS 5. Try looking at some alternate browsers in the app store to see if any of those might suit your wants a little better.

  • When I'm using a browser (like Safari) in Yosemite, how can I shrink it and share my desktop with other applications?

I have an iMac, and after installing Yosemite (OS 10.10), all my browsers (like Safari) no longer share the screen with other applications, like Word or even Calculator.  How can I shrink Safari (or any browser) and share my desktop with other applications?

When I'm using any browser (at the moment, it's Safari), I am unable to resize the window.  The browser BECOMES my entire desktop.  And if I open another application, suddenly the browser vanishes to the right, so I can only see the other app.  AND my dock disappears into a solid black space below the screen, which I can penetrate with my curser (after dragging the curser back and forth above and below the black space until the dock eventually reappears.  But if I select any app in the browser to open, then Safari vanishes instantly to the right of the screen.  I've tried to resize Safari (and Firefox and Chrome) by moving the curser to the bottom right of the browser, but that old standby doesn't seem to work anymore.  The browser takes up all of the screen, except for a small portion of the top, where my curser can reveal Safari's old menus, and the bottom of the screen, which is entirely black until I can locate my dock by dunking the curser up and down in the black ooze.
I really want the old convenience of my Mac, where several programs can open side by side, but Yosemite seems to have precluded that possibility.  What can I do?

  • Random Safari Crashes when opening tab

    Hi folks.
This has been happening since i updated to Mountain Lion and Safari 6.0.2.
There is no discernable pattern that I can see.  Sometimes it will run fine for days, sometimes it will crash twice in ten minutes.
Every time its when I click on a link, usually right-clicking to open in a new tab.  Poof.  Safari vanishes.
I relaunch it, and it all works fine, the perpetrator link works fine.  Impossible to repeat the crash even with identical open tabs.  Also, I get no "Safari quit unexpectedly" or any kind of crash report.  It just poofs away and I relaunch and keep working.  Nothing shows up in the CrashReporter Logs (which claims my last safari crash was 6 months ago HA HA HA).
Its a petty annoyance, but it gets irritating.  any ideas?  Thanks.

The next time you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • QuickTime thumbnail rendering...when is this going to be fixed?

Safari STILL does not render thumbnails linking to videos on our streaming server correctly. It is ONLY Safari that does this.
    Safari:
Firefox (or any other browser for that matter):
See how the thumbnails in Safari are all zoomed in and blurry? This is pulling up the same page on the server...Safari just doesn't render them properly. Plus, Safari pulls these pages up REALLY slowly. It's kind of weird that browsers made by other companies (including IE for Windows) pull it up faster and with the thumbnails displayed correctly.

Unless there has been an update to QuickTime Publisher (I don't use it) in the last few months it is generating out of date code.

I use Pageot (free) and the external javascript code from the link above.

I use image files saved as .mov for my "poster movies". Any other image format should use the qtsrc tag to help avoid errors.

Same here: missing thumbnails in Safari OS5 on iPad.
It does not work for me: Massive Tab clutter on top with webpage titles that are hard to remember and recognize. I dream about getting thumbnails back in iOS5.0.2.
Try iCab Mobile. It had both tabs (for those of us who are deeply frustrated by thumbnails) and thumbnails. It also has all sorts of other great features.

  • How do I have more than one safari screen open on ipad ios5

I need o toggle between two Internet sites.  How I do that o iPad ios5?

You no longer have thumbnails in Safari in iOS 5 if that is what you are looking for. You do have to tap the + sign to open a new tab.
Other browsers offer thumbnail views - iCab Mobile has thumbnails and a whole lot of other useful features as well.

  • Wanted! Website Thumbnail Capture Tool mac osx

Wanted! Website Thumbnail Capture Tool mac osx/Safari
...plenty of them for PC. just enter the URL and it creates a JPG (various sizes) of that URL.

    Greetings,
What you're looking for is a utility to capture individual web pages, not thumbnails. Safari can already do that using the Save As… command, and choose Web Archive as the format. It will save all the elements of that page which you can open at any time in Safari.
If you're wanting an image of the page, you can use Paparazzi!

  • Great problems with Safari after update to IOS 5

    Hallo,
for a few days I have updatet my iPad 2 from IOS 4 to IOS 5. Now after the update the navigation under Safari on websites with DHTML-navigation doesn´t works. Take a look for example on wepages like this:
    http://www.firstlex.de  or  http://www.ischeidung.de .
You will see, that the horizontal-navigation opens only for fewer as a second and it is not possible to open the navigation-submenus!
With Safari under IOS 4 it works perfectly! The navigation-submenus stands still and it was possible to open the navigation-submenu that you want with to klicks on it. Allthough it is possible to open the sub-submenus under IOS 4, but now not more under IOS 5 !
Did anybody have a solution for this problem???
    Thank you for replys!
    Greetings Mikeam13

For Safari crashing then you could try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
Some people have also suggested turning off iCloud on the iPad
In terms of the thumbnails, then Safari on iOS 5 uses tabbed browsing and you can't go back to thumbnails. You can try leaving feedback and maybe in a future update we'll get the option : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • How to Clean Install but then retrieve & restore my Keychain and Mailboxes.

For months now, there have been a large number of irritating problems with my system - and I'm not enough of a techie to resolve them.
It is as though my machine is stuck in the past.
Spotlight doesn't index well - and fails to find up to two thirds of my files - including most of the newer ones.
Dashboard remains at the point at which I upgraded my disk drive. I know this, because a clip from Safari (a web-page with drives for sale) comes up - laboriously slowly - every time I open dashboard; when I delete the clip, it simply reappears the next time I open dashboard after a reboot. Similarly, post-it-style notes made in the Stickies app just vanish after a reboot.
When I open TextEdit, the same untitled file I was working on back in the early summer opens with it; I close it, it's back again the next time I open TextEdit. Alterations I make to Text substitution disappear the moment I close the panel.
All new bookmark additions to Safari vanish from my bookmarks when I restart Safari.
Every time I open iTunes, it thinks I am opening it for the first time. I can't tell you how many times I have agreed to their Software License.
My iCal alarms go off ad infinitum even when I turn them off and for months after the event in question.
And so on, and so on. It's like living with an Alzheimer's patient who keeps asking you what day it is.
I have twice reinstalled Snow Leopard (and rebooted my way through all those software updates) to no avail. My system - or at any rate my applications - still think it's early summer 2010 and any changes since then are forgotten; and Spotlight continues to be virtually useless.
It seems intuitive that some of these problems might be associated with individual preference files and caches for the various applications. But, even if I knew how to correct such problems, I'm concerned it might take me days - even weeks - of messing around but without solving all of my problems.
I have to say, I am tired of having half a Macintosh at my disposal. And I'm inclined to do something drastic.
The obvious solution to these pernickety system problems is completely to reinstall Snow Leopard (onto an erased hard drive) and start from scratch. What has stopped me doing this so far is the fact that, together with the various keycodes that came with my applications, I would also lose all my e-mails and accounts from the Mail application - and all the various passwords in my Keychain.
Surely there must be some way to retrieve just these select items alone from backup after a clean install? (And - yes, techies - I KNOW that Apple doesn't offer a "clean install" these days but you know what I mean: I want to reset everything; then retrieve a few select items - but WITHOUT the complete migration - which would likely, in the process, reinstate all those corrupted preference files or permissions or whatever it is that is messing around with my machine's short term memory.)
    So here's my question again:
How - following a "clean install" - do I locate and retrieve the specific ingredients that will restore my mailboxes and keychain to their current state, whilst leaving everything else "clean"?

An alternative proposal I'm going to make is to set up a new user account. It seems highly likely to me that all, or almost all of these issues are related to the account preference files in ~/Library. Certainly the iTunes issue, Safari, TextEdit, iCal etc. suggest that your account is having trouble with saving any changes to its preference files which would result in anything you tried to do being forgotten the moment the application was closed.
So for a start, make a new account, log in to it and do a couple of experiments - make some bookmarks in Safari, change some TextEdit options, open iTunes - then close and reopen them, or even restart the machine. If the changes are saved, then it's definitely an account problem and there is no need to reinstall Mac OS. Worst case scenario then would be you might need to move your documents and settings over to the new account; however it's also worth taking a couple of steps to see if the original account can be fixed. Try the above step and if it works; if so, go to /Users and right click your home folder, then 'Get Info'. Under the section dealing with permissions, ensure that your username has both read and write permissions, then use the cogwheel to apply this setting to all folders and files inside your home folder (you may need to use your password to unlock the padlock for this).
There are other things that can be attempted even before moving to a new user (or reinstalling if the new user test failed) so it's still worth checking back here in case other people suggest steps, it just depends how much time you want to invest.
As always, back up all your data before troubleshooting.
