Thumbnails not showing in Iphoto 09

I recently broke and changed my hard drive, since installing the new one I brought my backed up copy of Iphoto Library onto my new hard drive and now I cant flick through thumbnails on the events page of Iphoto. All i see is a grey screen and I have to open each event to see the photos. Even when I click on View and go down to Thumbnails every option including Show, Position on Top etc is greyed out so I cant just click on show...
Cant find any similar help on here so have to waste your time with new questions...

figured it out.
download iPhoto Library Manager and then when you open it click "File" and select "Rebuild Library"
Takes a bit of time depending on size of library but has worked for all 6289 photos for me

  • Thumbnails not showing in iPhoto

    Hi
Can anybody help. My wife and I place our photo's on an external shared hard drive, so that we can log-in using our own accounts. I have just downloaded some pictures onto the HD and whilst I can see the images when I log-in and use iPhoto, when my wife logs in she can't see the pictures. She just gets the title photo's and a grey space where the pictures should be. She can see all the other pictures on the shared drive.
    Any ideas?

I had a similar problem as suddenly my thumbnails were no more visible from my iPhoto library, hosted on an external drive (NAS). I tried to rebuild them using the "command+option" start-up sequence but w/o effect.
Then I explored the library package content and looked inside the "AlbumData.xml" file containing the photo details (there is another file called "AlbumData2.xml" related to events). I noticed that all photo thumbnails were referring to a path internal to the library starting with "Data".
But in my library "Data" was simply a binary file while the structure the probably iPhoto was expecting to see was called "Data.noindex" (a "strings" command on the binary "Data" file was showing some reference to the right simbolic lynk, as something happened that transformed the link to a file).
    So what I did was:
    1. make a backup (duplicate) of the whole library package
    2. delete the "Data" library file
    3. rename "Data.noindex" to "Data" (from terminal, as it wasn't allowed on Finder)
    4. restart iPhoto (in standar way)
Result: thumbnails appeared again and I had simply to wait a few minutes to allow iPhoto to rebuild the thumbnails cache. Physicallly Data.noindex was recreated and then a Data link to Data.noindex was re-created.
Simply iPhoto contains a bug: when "Data" directory is not found it should complain in some way instead of simply showing an empty square for it.
Conclusion: working directly with the files inside the package is usually not recommended, as the package contains several inter-relations between data. But when iPhoto internal reconstruction tools are not working it is the only solution. Never forget to backup the package before any modification!!!
Hope this post help Minty01 to solve his issue and anybody else in the future to fix similar issues (and Apple to improve iPhoto!)

  • Recent edits in CS6 are not showing in iPhoto?

I am "editing in external editor" from iPhoto then editing in CS6 and saving as usual but the edit is not showing in iPhoto?

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Contents thumbnails not showing

I just generated two new single-folio apps. In the Contents menu, the thumbnail images are not showing. Where the contents thumbnails should be, only a capital letter is displayed. What would cause the thumbnail images to not show? How do I fix it?

Exactly how did you restore the iPhoto library?

  • Thumbnails not showing

    Hi,
I just purchased and installed Lightroom 5.3 on my Win 8.1 Asus UX32VD and the preview thumbnails are not showing as you can see in the screenshot below, and as described in this page: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/photos-appear-black-gray-rectangles.html
I have gone through the steps described and had no joy.
    Thanks, Jamie

  • Project thumbnails not showing properly

While nearing completion of my project I published the iMovie file to the Media Browser so I could access in GarageBand and work on the soundtrack. When I returned to iMovie to edit it further I noticed none of the thumbnails were showing. The project seemed intact. I rolled over each clip and everything worked as it should.
I began to edit the project and was prompted that I would have to re-publish the project again. This is as it should be. However, once I began editing the clips again all the thumbnails changed from blank to the image of the photo I just imported from iPhoto. All of them changed.
Is there anyway to reset the cache or something like this in iMovie 09? Something that will allow me to see the proper thumbnails. Although I can continue to work on the project, not knowing where my edits are makes it difficult.

Could you try disabling graphics hardware acceleration? Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches with some graphic cards/drivers.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    Does that make any difference?

  • My apple TV will not show my iPhotos travel photos in sequence. I set up a sequence of photos that STAY in sequence when viewing in iPhoto on my iMac, but they do not show in sequence when my Apple TV shows them on my TV screen. My Apple TV is MC 572C/A

My Apple TV will not show my photos in iPhoto on my iMac in the same sequence of images that I can see when viewing the iPhoto photos on my iMac. This is especially frustrating when I try to show my travel pictures in sequence on my TV. I have to resort to showing them on my iMac which defeats the principle purpose for purchasing my MacTV. Does anyone have a solution?
My Apple TV is Model MC 572C/A and the software is 5.2.1 (6025)
My iMac is Mac OSX version 10.7.5
    THANKS!
    Doug May

I can't recall whether slideshows are ordered by title or date, but you can manually re-arrange the albums in iPhoto, then batch change them once you have the order you want.

  • Nikon Df Nef File Thumbnails not showing in Adobe Bridge CS5

    HI,
I am having trouble getting NEF thumbnail to show in Bridge CS5, but only from the Nikon Df. All other, older, NEF files are showing up without a problem
I have installed the latest updates (Camera Raw etc)
I would appreciate any advice on getting this to happen.
    Thanks
    BD

Ok thanks for that, at least I wont be chasing my tail.
I did install the DNG converter 8.3 but I still NEF files as a NEF icon. Any clues to what I may not be doing right there?

  • Some Photos in Library are not showing on iPhoto

I imported some photos from another Mac to my MacBook Air and organized them in several events.  All went well until I had a large number of photos (and some videos) which took a long time to transfer and iPhoto was not responding for over an hour.   I forced quit the iPhoto and now when I go back, I see the events that I had created but they are empty (photos are not showing).   When I tried to re-import the photos, it says the photos are duplicate which I assume it means photos exist in the photo library.  My question is how do I get the photos existing in the library to be visible on iPhoto.  Thanks.

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

  • Adobe Acrobat 8.1 Professional - Explorer Thumbnails not showing

    Hi to all:
Recently I upgraded my Acrobat professional (part of the CS3 Design Premium Package) to version 8.1., and now the thumbnails in the windows explorer on PDF files are not showing anymore (in some files). It's only showing a simple sheet with the acrobat logo inside. Is there any way to bring them back?
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, 1.5 Gb memory and a 256 Mb. Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 Graphic card.
    Thanks in advance...

I have the same problem mentioned in the original post of this thread. It looks like the first reply misunderstood the issue. It is this:
In Windows Explorer on XP or Vista with Acrobat 7 (maybe 8.0 too, I don't know) the icon for a PDF file would display a thumbnail image of the first page of the PDF.
Starting with 8.1 (it might have been 8.0, but I skipped that version) the thumbnails are not shown -- only the Acrobat icon.
Before someone suggests it -- yes I have unchecked "Always show icons, never thumbnails" in the folder options dialog for Explorer. So that is not the problem here.
I have read hints about a fued between Adobe and Microsoft that brought this situation about. I am disappointed that Adobe is willing to punish their customers (again) as part of this battle.
With this and other lost features in 8.1 as well as the lack of response I have had over a licensing question, I have decided to switch to NitroPDF instead. If I have to, I'll write my own thumbnail viewer using the Foxit API.

  • Changes to RAW in Photoshop not showing in iPhoto

I have iPhoto 9.5.1 and Photoshop CC 2014 and OSX 10.9.5.
I have set up Photoshop as the external editor, to work with RAW files, as follows:
When I edit a RAW file (by clicking edit in iPhoto), it opens up Camera RAW 8.7.1 in Photoshop, as I am expecting. If I make changes in Camera RAW, for example to the exposure, and then try to save it, either by clicking "Done" or "Save Image...", the changes to the exposure will not show up in iPhoto. But if I edit the image again (by clicking edit in iPhoto), in Photoshop it has saved the changes I made to the exposure.
Also, if I export the photo from iPhoto (without entering photoshop), it will export the unedited version, not the edited version.
This means if I want to look at my edited photos, or export them, I have to go into photoshop first. I don't think this is right. How do I fix this?

You can also process your Raw with a 3rd Party app like ACR or Photoshop. But iPhoto does not handle this gracefully and it's a bit of a kludge.
First off set your preferred app as an external editor in iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
Next: In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    Now for the kludge:
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.

    Hi
Yes I draged some of the pictures from the finder and made a new folder called photos, but when I look for the photos in the finder under itunes they are all still there.
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
Now, to recover the situation you have two options:
    1. Return things exactly as they were or
    2. Restore an up-to-date back up or
    2. create an populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
Assuming that you moved those files to make the easier to find, There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser. Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.

  • Amended file thumbnails not showing in Organiser

If I amend an image and then save the file (using various formats such as tif, psd and jpg) in a version set  the amended file's thumbnail does not show in Organiser. It appears a 'broken file' icon.

    Hi,
Have you make any change to your system before this problem occures? Especially install new program.
You can try to perform a Clean Boot to check whether this problem caused by 3rd program or service start with system. Refer to the link below for more details.

  • Photo Event/Album Thumbnail not Synched with iPhoto

    Hi and tnxs for reading.
Is there a way to sync my iPhoto Album/Event Thumbnails with my iOS devices? I am noticing that on them, only the first photos are used as thumbnails.
    Tnxs, cheers

    1) why is this not an automatic feature? I mean, do I have to manually trash that folder every time I do modifications and need to sync them or is it supposed to autoupdate automatically sometimes?
You shouldn't have to. This should update automaically.
I see that my thumbnails are not synched aswell. In iPhoto Events/Albums I can select a thumbnail. However, on my iOS devices photo library, the thumbnail is the first photo of the Event/Album. Any chance to syncautomatically the same thumbnail I have in iPhoto
I have no idea. I'd ask that on a forum for your Phone/Pad/Pod...
