Thumbnails Not Syncing

I'm using PC Suite 6.81.13.0 and my phone is a Nokia 7370.
If I go into my contacts within PC Suite, edit a contact, click "Add Thumbnail" button, locate a JPEG file on my computer, then the thumbnail shows up fine within PC Suite. I then click the "Save" button and I'm asked if I want to update my phone, and I say Yes. I see a progress indicator and see messages on my phone to show that communication is happening.
I then go to my phone and look in the contacts and the contact I've just edited doesn't have a thumbnail!
It's as if adding a thumbnail via PC Suite only adds it to the contacts on my computer and not on my phone!
If I add a thumbnail via my phone (i.e. choosing an image that I've previously transferred to the Gallery / Images folder) then the thumbnail shows up ok on the phone next to that contact but never appears in PC Suite's contacts.
Before posting this problem I did a search of the discussions and found someone else with a similar sounding problem, but not solution was offered to him. See http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=pcsuite&message.id=6410&query... for the other thread.
Can anyone suggest anything?

I followed your advice and contacted Nokia and received this reply:

Thank you for emailing Nokia Careline.
With regard to your enquiry, please be advised that image you have assigned as a thumbnail has to be saved within the phone memory as well. Thus, we would suggest to copy the image to the phone memory prior to assigning it as a thumbnail via PC Suite.
Alternatively if the issue persists then it would be best to contact the Nokia Careline to speak to one of our Technical Support Professionals for step by step troubleshooting.

So from reading the above it sounds like the thumbnail that you want to assign to a contact has to already be on the phone (presumably in Gallery -> Images). So I tried putting an image on the phone, then went into PC Suite's Contacts and edited an existing contact. I clicked on the "Add Thumbnail" button, and browsed to the phone's memory and selected the image. The image then appeared in PC Suite (which tells me that PC Suite went to the phone and retrieved the image). I clicked on the "Save" button and was asked if I wanted to save the details to the phone, I said Yes and there was some Bluetooth activity. I then went to the phone and went into contacts and found the person I'd just edited: no image!
So then I tried ringing up the Nokia support number that was sent to me and I explained my problem to someone. He said that what I was trying to do can't be done. So all you people that say you can assign thumbnails to contacts via PC Suite must be mistaken! :-)Message Edited by kiwiguy on 27-Sep-2006

  • Clicking "Do not Sync Books does not remove thumbnails from iBooks?

I wanted to try another reader for epubs so that I could sort my library by author name (iBooks default bookshelf view *****, by the way) and although I clicked on "do not sync books" in iTunes", and iTunes warned me it would remove the books from my device, when I open iBooks on the iPad the cover thumbnails are still there.  Books do not open, only get the "thinking" circle.  original iPad on 5.1.1. (yeah, I know)   Newest version of iTunes for Win.  I'd like the thumbnails gone so that I can tell what's "really" there.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
As for sorting books on the iPad, the book shelf view allows you to manually e-arrange the books in what ever order you choose (tap Edit and then drag and drop). The list view (tap the button on the upper right (just to the left of Edit), allows you auto sort by Book shelf order, Title, author or group by category. (Admittedly this may not be available for iBooks on 5.1.1, but I beleive it is.) You can also move books to specific collections.

  • ITUnes not syncing video form iPhoto

    Hi,
Since iTunes 10.1 has been installed on my iMac (with IOS 4.2.1) videos from iPhoto do not sync anymore, despite the setting in iTunes 'include video' being selected.
    Anybody else experiences the same?
    Thanks!
    JP.

You may have figured it out by now. None of the resetting of the iPod or the rebuilding of the iPhoto library (command+option) or permission rebuilding works to solve a -208 error when the error refers to an iPhoto library sync with iTunes. Supposedly, this error occurs with corrupt AIFF files as well. This error will occur on different iPods which try to sync to the same iPhoto library. The iPhoto library is definitely corrupted. Mine was due to a sudden power loss.
NOTE: I do not "Copy files to iPhoto Library folder when adding to library" under Advanced iPhoto preferences, so that my photos don't have a chance of getting messed up (like error -208s). If you do, the steps below may be different for you. Always a good idea to back up your photos.
Here is how I fixed it. All the steps may not be necessary. Go to /pictures directory under your user (or wherever your iPhoto library is located), and rename the "iPhoto Library" or whatever you called it to something else, like "iPhoto Library 2". Open iPhoto, and it can't find the library, and asks if you want to find it or create a new one. Tell it to create a new one, and put at least a picture in the library. Sync with iPod, which should work without error and put the picture on your iPod. Close iTunes. Close iPhoto. Now, to save all your pictures (thumbnails) already in the iPhoto library, copy everything BUT "iPod Photo Cache" folder, which seems to be the culprit, from the "iPhoto Library 2" folder into the "iPhoto Library" folder. Open iPhoto, and all your pictures should now be in the library. Open iTunes and sync iPod, and all your pictures should sync out without error.

  • Rebuilt iphoto Library not syncing

I had the problems of thumbnails 'disappearing' when I tried to edit my photos on my imac. Thanks to the great advice here from Terence Devlin, Old Toad and others, I rebuilt my Library and now have all my photos restored and working.
However, a new problem arose when I tried to sync my iphone4S and ipad3. I have over 18000 photos so I only keep a few on my mobile devices. After syncing, there was a report that itunes could not sync the majority of the photos that I had previously kept on the devices.
I'd appreciate any guidance on what to do now, and easy-to-follow (I'm a newbie to things Apple) instructions on how to resolve the problem.

Thanks for your very prompt responses. I did that first repair, and it has improved the syncing to some extent. I still get the error message ("3320 items could not be synced. See iTunes for more information") as some photos I would like to sync appear on my iphone as blanks.
Do you know where I might find on iTunes the "more information" mentioned? I have looked but I can't seem to find any more details.

  • Aperture Selected Photos not Syncing

Photos from Aperture will not sync to my iPhone! I have selected the projects and albums that I want, but when I do a sync of the iPhone, they do not transfer to the phone. Images from iPhoto will sync up, but not Aperture. What can I do?
I have the lastest OSX and the latest version of Aperture.
    Kevin

Aperture is not supported at this time. But you can create a folder and sync photos from that folder to the iPhone.
I don't believe that is true, Jennifer, as I was able to sync Aperture Albums previously with older versions of iPhone software and Aperture 1.5.x
I'm having a problem that even though my Aperture albums have generated previews and thumbnails, the options for selecting "All Events" or "Selected Albums" appear grayed out and I cannot select anything but "All photos and albums" -- this is impossible as my Aperture library is 180GB and won't fit on my iPhone
Anyone have this problem? Suggested solutions or fixes (that is without using iPhoto)?
    thanks!

  • Somebody please help me- Media card storage NOT SYNCING WITH APPS

I really need help with this problem, im very frustrated, i called Blackberry Tech Support who sent me to Rogers, I called Rogers who sent me back to Blackberry, I then go transferred back to Rogers where i was told i had to pay an expert for my question and problem so i hung up the phone.
This all started when i downloaded the software update (10.1) on june 15th, my phone will not recognize the media card as it's default storage and my music and photos will not sync with the apps on my phone (camera, music for example).I've deleted everything and set my phone to factory settings and it's still screwed up. I read on some forums about android apps messing with folders in the device storage and when the phone see's "android" everything gets saved there. I do see the folder on my phone still and it won't let me delete it. iT says permission denied need permission from Unix. whatever the hell that means.
When i click on Music for example, it will say "indexing your media card, files will appear shortly" anddddd it neverrrrr comes. Ive swapped media cards and its the same problem. I can only access my media card through the app "files" and then you can switch to media card in that app, unfortunately its not organized to find things in an easy matter. i have hundreds of photos with no thumbnail pictures, i have thousands of songs but can only see a list of 10, it really sucks, i want my phone back LOL
Is there anyone out there that can help me please, I know i'm not the only one with this problem, there are multiple people posting similar problems on other forums and getting no answers. SUCKS

If I were in your situation, I'd put the SD card in a Card Reader (or SD Card Adapter) and open it up on the computer and COPY the files into a folder on the computer so at least everything is backed-up. Then full format the card on the computer prior to formatting it again on the device. With the newly formatted card in the device I'd enter some similar media (of similar types as to what is not being recognised) via the conventional route onto the phone. Once the appropriate folders have been created and your 'test media' are appearing normally on your device, I'd place the card back in the computer, open up your saved memory card copy as well as the actual SD in separate windows and try dragging and dropping the files (or one or two test files) into their appropriate folders - (the ones your new OS has deemed correct). You absolutely don't want to loose your stuff so back everything up. As I see it, you have a file structure created by a different operating system and you can only work with the new one which you now have. The Android folder is meant to be there, which is why you shouldn't try deleting it.
On your computer you should at least see thumbnails so it has to be easier to see what you are working with.
    Good luck (and patience)!
Edit: Sorry, I should have said that I think you have items put in folders created by your previous software version and that your current one doesn't know how to deal with them.

I know a little about lots of things,
yet not a great lot about those little-things.

  • ITunes not syncing photos from iPhoto

"Unkown error" messages are becoming usual for iPod users that we are ignoring them because our iPods are syncing fine anyway. Except for error message -208, the new kid on the block! This error message only pops when trying to sync photos from iPhoto (6.0.5 the latest! Syncing photos from any other folder or not syncing photos at all, does not cause any problem. The syncing never has given me this problem (and I have been syncing iPods with pics for a long time!)
How does Apple answer to this problem? Don't blame the iTunes software, because this is definitively a joint problem you guys have with your software not talking to one another.
I have rebuilt everything that can be rebuilt in iPhoto (thumbnails, library), I have downloaded and installed all the latest updates. Reset and restored the iPod... done! Reinstall iTunes, check!
I have posted messages at the iTunes/iPod forum and... no response! Hope the Apple staff is more friendly here... or at least one of the seasoned users...

  • Added calendar in iCal not synced to MobileMe

I moved a calendar from "On My Mac" to my MobileMe account group, using the export-import method. The new calendar, however, does not sync to MobileMe. I even tried an overwrite (bookmarks, calendars, contacts and keychains) from my Mac to MobileMe but the added calendar still did not appear in MobileMe.
I quit and relaunched iCal, which started an immediate sync. The new calendar promptly disappeared from iCal and I got a string of error messages (one for each entry in the new calendar, it seems) all ending with
    The server responded with
    “HTTP/1.1 409 Conflict”
and asking me to either "Go Offline" or "Revert to Server". It didn't seem to matter which one I selected – the error just kept cropping up. Eventually, I gave up and force quit iCal.
How can I add a new calendar to iCal that will sync with MobileMe?

    Derek,
I presume that this procedure represents exactly what you have tried to accomplish?
Import an iCal calendar or event
If you use iCal and want to add your iCal calendars and events to a MobileMe calendar, you can import them.
    Hide
    To import an iCal calendar:
Open iCal, and then select the iCal calendar you want to import into your MobileMe calendar.
Choose File > Export > Export.
Type a calendar name, choose a location from the Where pop-up menu, and click OK.You can store the exported file anywhere, and you can delete it after you finish importing it.
Choose File > New Calendar, and then choose a MobileMe calendar (by default, your MobileMe email address).
Type a calendar name (you can use the same name as the calendar you just exported), and press Return.
Choose File > Import > Import, select your exported iCal calendar, and then click Import.
Select the destination MobileMe calendar to which you want to add the imported iCal calendar, and then click OK.
Quit iCal and go to the Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and delete any/all files with "Cache" as a part of the name. Log out/in or restart and reattempt using the exact procedure which I copied from the MobileMe Help page.

  • IPhone calendar does not sync new events and appointments from Outlook

iTunes 9.2.0.61/iPhone 4.0.1 - does not sync newly added events and appointments! Previously added stuff is all there, new stuff added in Outlook 2007 just doesn't show up. I've gone back to my old Palm T|X which syncs all this stuff with no problem, so it's not an Outlook bug.
It looks like Apple has put a team of junior programmers on the Calendar app - I've seen leap-year bugs (still there), events showing up on the wrong day (still there), and I'm still waiting for the "week at a glance" view. Calendar is SO important for business use that top level "gray beard" engineers need to be on this. (Question for Apple's calendar developers: what's Zeller's Congruence? It they haven't heard of it they have no business doing calendar programming.)

Spontaneously started syncing again - no idea why now, nor why it failed for so long. Related to the alarm bug? Who knows...

  • Why does my ical on my ipod touch not sync with my ical on my desktop if I put in an event on the ipod calendar?

Probably because you did not tell the iPod to sync the calendar in iTunes.

  • Iphone and Ical on mac do not sync anymore. All my events are in the iphone calendar! How do I backup iphone calendar, and how do I fix the syncronizing problem?

After getting iCloud the iCal on my mac does not sync with my iPhone calendar. All of my calendar notes are in my iPhone (while the mac's Ical remains empty) so I need to backup the iphone version. How?
Itunes says that "your calendars are being syncronized with iphone using icloud" - but the mac's ical does not show any of the new events I have added on my iphone.
I would like to install the new update on my iphone, but I am afraid to do it without knowing that I will be able to restore my iphone calendar. I have made calendar events for many years to come, I and will not risk losing them!
I have been looking for tips online, but the solutions usually suggest that I backup the ical on the mac and start fresh using this version. In other words overwrite iphone calendar with the ical from the mac. Which is not an option. What can I do?

Moments in Photos are the new Events, i.e. groupings of photos sorted by date taken.
When the iPhoto Library was first migrated to Photos there was a folder created in the sidebar titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in that folder. To open the sidebar if it's not already open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.
The downside to the simulation is that the Albums/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title. But they can also be sorted manually, either in the sidebar or in the folder's window at the right.
Ask Apple for more sorting options in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.

  • IPod is recognized by iTunes and computer, but wil not sync songs

iPod is recognized by iTunes and computer, but wil not sync songs. I have about 1400 songs and just got 40 more, and before I bought those 40 my iTunes was wiped out. I still had the files so my iTunes was filled up again. Now, when I connect my iPod to the computer it is recognized and then it says "do not disconnect" then after a few seconds it says "ipod update is complete- ok to disconnect". but it did not upload any songs. How can I make it work?

If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter:
    -- Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
-- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
-- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)
    -- Safely eject the iPod
    -- Reboot the PC
Then restore your iPod to factory settings.

  • Notes sync no longer works

I've just upgraded to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion on my early 2009 iMac and since the upgrade Apple's Notes app no longer syncs with Notes on my iPhone 3G or my new iPad 3rd generation when syncing via USB cable.
The Mail and Notes apps have now been split - but Notes does not appear anywhere in the syncing options in iTunes (in the Info tab).
I spent an hour on the phone with an Apple support guy (2nd level), who eventually admitted there was no solution.
    Anyone found a workaround?
    Apple - please fix this!

Rubbish indeed. You used to be able to hit a back button and select which email address on your phone you were looking at notes from. They totally did some kind of "update" or something to get rid of that feature. Not cool. Either they hate Google too a little bit too much or they really want to force us to use iCloud, buy a new phone and stop using their still useful 4 year old iPhone 3G. I used the note sync feature with Gmail all the time. it was totally rad.
