Thumbnails on laptop but photos on NAS?

Hi - I am a newbie to PE6 for Mac. I have read The Missing Manual, but I am still confused about one thing. I am storing all of my original photos on my NAS (for back up reasons). I would like to have thumbnails of my pictures on my laptop, so that when I am traveling I can stack them, work on metadata, etc. Is this possible? Right now, I use the Bridge to see my photos, but it does not seem like any thumbnails are being stored on my hard drive. Thanks in advance! Jill

Bridge doesn't ever store any thumbnails for anything. It isn't a photo organizer, it's a browser: it just lets you look through folders. Bridge just shows you the current state of the folder you point it to, so no, it can't store your NAS thumbnails because it can't store any thumbnails.

Blank thumbnails in organizer but photo is there when I double click on it

When I look at my entire library, I have events that show up blank with a dotted line around it. When I click on the event the photos are blank with the same dotted line. But when I double click on each one, it brings up the actual photo. At least I know the photo is there, but is there some way to see the thumbnails when I am viewing all the events?

have you backed up and rebuilt the thumbnails (depress the option and command keys and launch iPhoto use the rebuild thumbnails option)

Thumbnail is fine, but photo won't open

On my first gen iPhone, with the latest firmware update, 2.x.x, I have the following problem.
A percentage of my photos won't open. All of the thumbnails are fine. But when I open the photo to full screen, I just get a black screen. I can select to go to the next or previous photo, but only some of them will view full screen, the rest are black. The ones I take with the camera all will open. Its just the ones that I import from iTunes/iPhoto. I also have an iPod classic, and all of these photos open fine on it. So not sure what the problem is.

You might need to reset and or restore the iphone to resolve any software issues.

I recently moved all of my photos from one portable drive to a new and much larger one. I use LR 5 and and all of the folders now have a ? in their folder icon. The thumbnail is there but no actual photo. How do i reconnect them?

I am planning a long vacation and taking my laptop but it is my home computer that my new ipad and ipod touch are synced too. I know i can backup to the cloud over wifi but how can i do things like delete photo albums

I know i can backup to the cloud over wifi but how can i do things like delete photo albums instead of having to manually delete pictures one by one on the Ipad. Is there any way also to add my pictures to the ipad other than through email. i am assuming that i can't just install itunes on the laptop and sync to that. I have been told that i always have to sync to my original synced home computer for that.

What determins order photos are transferred, my photos have been numbered and appear in the correct order on the laptop but transfer in a random order in some albums irrespective of title or date taken.
Can i alter any setting to ensure photos will transfer in a logical order to track the history of the events in any particular album folder.

Thanks for this, I have checked the dates in case the camera settings had been lost unfortunatly in this instance all pics are dated in correct order but not transferred in date order, or date modified order, or is the date config based on US date atyle?

Add the corrected ones to your PS - PS contains only what was added to it - changes made are not applied to the PS - you have to re add the updated photos

On the new MBAir, open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Photo Stream then reselect it then restart your Mac.

You can only sync an ipad to one computer at a time.
You can look to something like dropbox, upload your photos there, then do the sync and since your photos are backed up it won't hurt if they are deleted.

How can you shrink the size of an upright picture to make it smaller without losing any of the detail in it??? At the moment, if I view them on my laptop, landscape photos fill the screen, but portrait photos only show the middle part.

Homestly haven't a clue what's going on there.
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

I just had this problem as well and spent quite a bit of time reviewing all of the suggestions/ideas/comments, and since I am not that tech-savy I remembered this "suggestion" from the UK show The "IT Crowd" which was "Have you tried turning it off and on again??" (both devices)

Synced photos in itunes - Thumbnails are in my photos on iPad but when I click they won't open

I just got an iPad 3. I used I tunes to sync the photos folder which I had synced to my iPod Touch. All of the photos transferred and when I open the photos folder on the iPad I can see the thumbnails of all the photos. When I click on the photos to open them only about 60% of them will open and the other ones just skip to the next photo and won't open. They are jpeg files and open fine on my iPod Touch. Any ideas on how to fix this???

Try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over correctly - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page.
