Thumbnails on RAW files in OS X 10.6.8

I recently bought a Canon s100 camera. When I shoot in RAW mode I cannot see the thumbnails in my finder. Just blank icons. I try to update but with no luck. I use Mac OS X 10.6.8. Can anyone help?

I can view my 5D Mark III files on the most current versionof Lion, but the update doesn't work on my other computer running the current version of Snow Leopard.

Also, I found this from Apple - Have any of you tried upgrading your iPhoto software to see if that allows you to view your thumbnails in Finder?

Can see thumbnails in CS5.1 bridge  and LR 4.2 which fortunately i did not uninstall.
Bummer since I am up against a hard deadline.
    Really Sucks

We can't know. You are not offering any system information or e.g. info about what image files you are working with. Since they do show up in your otehr programs, my assumption would be that you need to switch the Camera Raw engine back to the 2009/2010 version in Photoshop and not use the default new 2012 one. Perhaps your thumbnails will appear then....

  • Bridge CS6 not generating correct thumbnails for RAW files

I'm running Bridge CS6 (the latest version, 5.0.2.4) on a 2013 MacBook Pro (OSX 10.9.1) and suddenly as of today Bridge is no longer updating the thumbnails for my RAW files. All other image and video file formats are having thumbnails generated but not my Nikon NEF raw files including those which I have previously worked on in ACR. I have tried purging the entire cache, restarting Bridge and even rebooting my computer and still the raw thumbnails are not being generated.
Any advice would be appreciated thank you.
    Eric
Actually I've just noticed that thumbnails for jpegs are not being generated either. A thumbnail is only generated if I work on a file in Photoshop and then save it.

Check you cache disk free space.  You should have at least 15%.  For a 700g drive that that 100g free.
Have you reset preferences?  Hold down option key and start bridge.  You will get a reset window.

  • Bridge CS5 applies wrong white balance during thumbnail extraction (raw files only)

    Hello to all Adobe Wizards,
Hobbiest photographer here. I use a Canon T2i and I have been shooting raw with auto white balance.
After I upload the CR2 files to Bridge, Bridge begins thumbnail extraction. This is when the problem begins: I watch Bridge extracting thumbnail photo after photo, turning them into wrong white balance one by one. After Bridge is done, I open one of these photos in Camera Raw, it shows the photo in "custom white balance". I was able to change it back to "As Shot". But every photo in Bridge now has custom white balance and is difficult to view in Bridge. This screenshot shows what my Bridge looks like after thumbnail extraction....
Yesterday, just out of curiosity, I took some photos with different white balance settings on the camera. I uploaded them to Bridge and Bridge over-wrote all the white balance settings. I then imported the same photos (from the same files) to iPhoto, they show up with correct write balance. Please see the second screenshot.
The third screenshot shows a unedited photo I opened from Bridge to Camera Raw, and the same photo as it appears in iPhoto, both unedited.
Again, this only happens to CR2 files. All tif, jpeg files are fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    -Wolfie

    Any ideas?
First of all, shooting Raw has the benefit of changing the color temperature (Whit Balance) to what ever you like from whatever you shot in camera.
To me it seems you once have saved a custom white balance as default setting and this is been applied to every new file because you told Bridge to do so. The easiest way to get out of this is open a raw file in ACR and in the basic tab at the right side you see a small icon for sub menu (next to the word basic). Click on it and from the row choose 'Reset Camera Raw defaults' at the bottom.
Also decide whether you want to stay in 16 bit mode (as you are now as shown in the blue line under the preview). If you want to chance it back to 8 bit just click on that blue line and choose your options from that menu. You only have to do this once for the files from that same camera, ACR remembers the settings for you.
Using 16 bit mode has advantages when using critical color corrections (but then you also should change the color mode to ProPhoto in my opinion). The disadvantage is that 16 bit doubles the file size compared to 8 bit
Having set the ACR defaults should effect your thumbs immediately by building new thumbs and previews but if not you must choose purge cache for folder from the menu tools / cache/ purge cache for folder. Now the new settings will be applied.
It may take some time so let Bridge do its work properly before starting other jobs in Bridge (see the activity bar bottom left to check if Bridge is still caching).

  • Photoshop won't open my raw files and Bridge won't show thumbnails

    Hi,
I'm having trouble with my Photoshop CS6 and Bridge CS6 on my Mac. It's been working fine until a few days ago, but now the image thumbnails won't load in Bridge, and I'm not able to open RAW-files in Photoshop (same thing happens when opening both from Bridge or in Finder).
When trying to open the files in Photoshop a pop up message shows up saying this:
    "Photoshop cannot open this file.
If you are attempting to open a raw file from a digital camera, make sure you have the latest Camera Raw update installed via Help > Updates.
If the problem persists, visit the following link for more information:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111"
I'm not able to click on updates, so that won't help me much. What can I do to get it back to normal again?

I do not use a Mac but Windows as delivered from Microsoft does not generate Thumbnails for RAW files or even Photoshop Files like PSD  in order to seen the in Windows UI like Windows File Explore (Mac Finder) or in File Open and selection Dialog one needs to install some windows add on.  I use FastPictureViered Codec Package,  When installed on Windows I can have the thumbnails your looking for.  Perhaps You need some Mac add on or Apple Update the see thumbnails for RAW files. I see things like this on the web Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 4.06

  • Lightroom won't open my RAW files in Photoshop

I've had this problem for a few months now, but I thought I'd test the waters and see if there's anyone out there who can help me now. Here is a video of what happens when I try to open ANY raw file from ANY camera type in Lightroom to edit in Photoshop. This happens if I go through the menus or if I control+e to open them.
Photoshop CC Opening RAW Problem - vidme
I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times. I have reinstalled PS first and LR second like some have suggested. I've gone as far as reformatting my ENTIRE computer TWICE with two different OS versions and installing LR+PS on those versions, still no luck. My workaround has been editing the RAW files in LR, saving the metadata, then navigating to the folder in finder and opening the RAW files directly into PS. That works, but is horribly inefficient.
Anyone have any ideas? I am on the latest versions of LR and PS with my CC subscription.

  • Adobe Bridge CS3 - does not display thumbnails for Canon 40D or 50D RAW files

I wanted to use Bridge to view my Canon EOS 50D RAW files and it does not display the thumbnails, just icons. I checked my 40D cr2 files and saw same thing.
I have purged the cache and rest the cache preferences and it has not helped. I would like to be abl eto view the thumbnails of the RAW files via Bridge if possible. Jpg files and Tif files can be viewed without any issues.
Am using Bridge version 2.1.1.9 and Pshop CS3 10.0.1

I have the exact same problem. I can view my RAW file thumbnails (which are .ARW files from my Sony A200 camera) in the Finder and in other applications, such as Preview, but not in Adobe Bridge CS3. I know that I did try purging the cache at one point to see if that would fix it, but then I didn't know what to do after that. Before I purged the cache, I was able to view RAW thumbnails in Bridge, but then they would not increase in size when I tried using the slider (at the bottom right of the Bridge window)

  • When will finder show a thumbnail or preview of the raw file images from the Canon 5d mark iii?

I am wondering if anyone has an update on when finder will show a thumbnail for the raw files from the Canon 5d mark III? I've done all the updates possible and nothing has changed, I can't do a quick preview either, it just shows the extension image, not the actual image taken. (The symbol for crw).

I had the same problem for a Canon EOS-1D X and finally got around it by viewing the images in Adobe Bridge. Worked beautifully!

  • Viewing RAW file thumbnails in Adobe Bridge

Hello folks have a problem which is driving me crazy and I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some pointers. Until recently I was able to view my NEF RAW files as thumbnails in Bridge, click on them and they open in camera raw fine. But all of a sudden though, as I open a folder in bridge I get a brief display of thumbnails which then all convert to just a white sheet icon. If i click on any of these identical icons then the file opens as normal in camera raw,but I cant see the thumbnail preview to know which shot is which. Has anyone had/solved this problem - any ideas as to what it might be causing it? All ideas gratefully received. I am using Elements 8 and Bridge CS4. I have looked through Adobes threads and they had some trouble shooting tips on the issue but these have not worked.
One of the issues they mentioned was checking if your bridge files were in the right place. I am not sure if the bridge file should be inside the Elements file or or not - i am wondering if this might be the problem as i accidentally moved my bridge file and then moved it back to the applications file - so i have included a screen grab of where my files are. and this is what the NEF - RAW thumb looks like instead of a thumbnail
Any help or pointers very GRATEFULLY received

Since no one else, like Barbara has replied more to this, at least publically, I will give some suggestions although I'm a Windows user and it would seem you're on a Mac.
The momentary flashes of image followed by a white sheet icon means that Bridge is initially showing you the camera-embedded JPG preview image, which typically has black bars, and then what is supposed to happen is Bridge uses its ACR to render each RAW using Adobe settings and recreate a new preview.  Apparently something is wrong with Bridge's usage of ACR so the Adobe-specific preview never gets created.
Your "new" D300 has been supported since CS3 ACR 4.3.1 so it isn't your CS4 ACR version being older than your camera that is the problem, unless the model of camera was mis-reported.
A clarification question: is it the case that NEFs from both your older camera and the newer D300 fail, now, in Bridge?  Another question would be what version of ACR is being used in Bridge and what is being used in Elements.  You can figure this out by doing Help / Plug-ins... / Camera RAW in Elements and maybe there is something similar in the Bridge preferences area.
As far as what could be wrong:  on a Mac, I believe there is one ACR plug-in for Bridge and another ACR plug-in for Elements, but I have no way to verify where to look on the Mac for them.  Your symptoms suggest that the PSE ACR is ok, and the Bridge ACR went missing or was damaged, recently, and you may be able to fix things by updating the Bridge CS4 ACR plug-in on the Mac to whatever it thinks it needs, or ACR 5.7 if you want the newest one compatible with both CS4 and PSE8, although PSE8 can be updated to ACR 6.1 which wouldn't be compatible with Bridge CS4.
First, try to use Bridge / Help / Updates to check for a new version of ACR and install one if it finds one to install.  If it sees nothing to update, then try to manually install it via the instructions on the Mac-ACR 5.7 updates page.  There is an install for CS4 and an install for PSE 8.  It isn't clear if you can merely use the update for PSE 8 or need to also do the update for CS4.  I would try both updates if you can find folders that match both the PSE and CS4 ones mentioned in the instructions.
To find the ACR 5.7 update for your Mac:
    Go to http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
Change the drop-down up top to Camera RAW - Macintosh and Go
Click on the ACR 5.7 link.
On the page that comes up there is a download and instructions for various products including PSE 8.
You may need to clear your previews cache, again, after installing.

  • RAW files from my Canon 7D Mark II camera do not show thumbnails when stored on my iMac computer even though I have Photoshop CC 14.2 and Camera RAW 8.7

How do i resolve this problem?  TIFF files show the thumbnails just fine, just not the RAW files.  My old Canon 7D was fine with RAW files showing thumbnails also.

Which version of mac os x are you using?
They show here in photoshop 14.2.1 in the open dialog as well as in finder on mac os x 10.10
I believe the operating system provides the thumbnails and not photoshop.

  • Thumbnail Preview for RAW Files Not Appearing in Bridge

    Hello,
I'm running Adobe Bridge 5.1 on a Mac OS 10.9.2 (recently upgraded to Maverick) and I can no longer see thumbnail previews for my RAW files (which include .NEF, .CR2 and .RAF) though as of a few days ago this wasn't a problem. Not sure if it's related to the Maverick upgrade... but FYI, I do see thumbnail previews for .TIFF and .JPEG files.
I've already purged my cache generally and have also as a test chosen a local file to purge - that didn't work.
I've restarted Bridge at least 2x by pressing and holding the Option key.
I've also checked for Bridge updates - everything is up to date.
My Cache Options (within Preferences) are set to "Keep 100% Previews in Cache" and "Automatically Export Cache to Folders When Possible" - both checked.
Also downloaded the Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter 8.3, installed it but that didn't work.
I can't seem to find my Bridge cache folder or at least what's in the Library's "Caches" folder doesn't include anything for Bridge - see screenshot below.
Please help! Thank you in advance.

To me it seems related to your Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) converter. Clue inhere is you only miss the Raw files and have no problems in seeing other formats like jpeg and tiff.
The screenshot you delivered is from the wrong library, however, this same library (the one on system level) also is the location where you should be able to view the correct version of your ACR plugin. The path: library (same as per your screenshot)/Application support/ Adobe/ Plug ins/ CS6/ File Formats. inhere should be only one version of Camera Raw (called: "Camera Raw.plugin") and this should show version 8.3 (141).
I'm not sure about your bridge version number, Bridge 5 comes with PSCS6 but my most recent version of Bridge is 5.0.2.4.
Anyway, if you have only one ACR (8.3) installed in the above mentioned path then you might want to try to delete the Bridge plist file and Bridge cache file manually.
For this you have to Quit Bridge and find the user library (by default hidden, use menu Go in Finder and press option key to reveal).
Inhere find the plist file (user(your user name) / library / Preferences  and inhere find and manually delete the file called: "com.adobe.bridge5.plist"
The in same user library find Bridge Cache. User/Library/Caches/Adobe/Bridge CS6. Inhere are 2 files, the adobe Bridge plug in cache and the folder called Cache. delete (or move outside libray) both items.
The restart Bridge (If needed also again hold option key to reset preferences) and this will create fresh files for the previous deleted items, leaving you with an almost out of the box factory set version of Bridge.

    Any Solutions?

    Ben,
I also take photos with a sony DSLR. Not a professional one but theAlpha700.
So this was one annoying issue.
But, I haven't found the reason why, after a few days the problem returned.
This happened after setting up my preferences. When we do this, some how, the preferences file becomes 'corrupted' or changes any bit/byte that interferes with icon display.
But if we repeat the process (delete prefs files), things become all right again.
    hope this helps.
