Thumbnails populate slowly, and file import twice (two questions)

Lately, I've been noticing that thumbnails take longer than usual to populate for existing images in the Grid View. I'm using LR 5.6, Windows 7-64 Professional. Plenty of RAM and an SSD where the catalog and .lrdata reside. Any thoughts on how I might improve matters?
Also, I notice when I import images from my camera that already imported images sometimes get imported again. I've checked the box "don't import suspected duplicates" and I'm selecting "New Photos." Again, any input would be appreciated.

I've got an iMac G5 running 10.4.11 and an Intel iMac running 10.5 and was wondering if I create a wireless Local Area Network and file sharing between my two household Macs?

I have a network set up for my mom using an old blue iMac with an airport card as the base station. I'm using Tiger on the machine, but you should be able to do this on Leopard, too. She's 700 miles away, and I did it quite a while ago, but it seems I set everything up using the Airport Utility. At one point I think I had Internet Sharing on, too, but I don't remember if that's still on. Haven't needed to use file sharing on the network, but my G4 and her boyfriends MacPro happily use the network via Airport. I'm guessing you could share files that way. If it doesn't work, an Airport Express is a less expensive option for the router, at least cheaper than an Extreme.

Loading File name and file contents into two separate tables using Sqlloadr

I have situtation like to load File contents into One table and File name into one table . File comes with .txt extension
Example :
File name : product_09_abc.txt
File contents :
Productcode
ABC
CDE
EFT
Can you please help me out this how can we acheive this using SQLLOADER.

SQL*Loader will not pass through the filename for you to be able to insert into a table.
You will need to have a controlling o/s script that picks up the file name, calls sql*loader and then also call's an SQL script (using sql*plus?) to insert the filename into a.n.other table.

Problem conecting and file-sharing between two net-worked macs

I have a Mac Pro (in an out-building in my back-garden) and an Imac (in the house) connected by a long ethernet cable (must be at least 20 metres).
I used to have no trouble connecting one to the other till recently. I still usually have no trouble connecting to the Internet from the Mac Pro using the Imac's internet connection (wireless). The problem is in clicking on the Imac connection to open it in order to share files (also using "connect to server" in Go menu).
Much of the time (but not absolutely always), it refuses to connect, and I get a "failed connection message" (or something like "server does not exist" if using other method).
Sometimes, I can connect successfully, not just as a guest but after entering admin password, and then short time later the connection will disappear. When this happens, the Imac icon previously visible in the finder window also disappears. Unplugging and replugging the ethernet cable has no effect. Once I was using Itunes shared library to play a song on the Imac, and the song just suddenly disappeared.
Just now, after the Mac Pro-to-Imac conection failed again, I substituted my Ibook for the Imac in the house, and there was no problem at all connecting both ways between it and the Mac Pro. I then reconnected the Imac to the Mac Pro and it too connected fine. This proved at least that the ethernet cable was not at fault, but no doubt the problem will re-occur.
I have tried experimenting with the Firewall settings on the Imac, e.g. to "allow all incoming connections" or to "set access for specific services"( the latter is my usual setting on the Imac), but it made no difference. Also, the Ibook has no trouble at all connecting to the Imac when the Imac firewall is set to "specific services" so why should the Mac Pro have a problem (I admit I am a little uncertain about the best setting for the Firewall, but believe "specific services" to be correct).
File-sharing options in system prefs on the Imac are clearly properly set-up or there would never be any connection at all.
Often, although the Mac Pro to Imac connection will not work, the Imac to Mac Pro will, although not today, when the Mac Pro icon similarly was not present on the Imac.
As stated, I am pretty sure that all the time the internet connection from Mac Pro to Imac still works (Mac Pro shares Imac conection).
None of this appears to make much sense and am wondering if anyone has advice.

It might be me but I don't think I have fully understood the "My Name's iMac" bit.
If you mean (my Name) iMac as opposed to (My Name) iBook or Shed computer then that is a separate issue I will describe below
Does the "My Name" bit mean like mine does in this pic ?
As you can see I have used the Edit Button to change the Name of this G4 to RalphG4
In System Preferences > Network > (Connection method) > Advanced Button > WINS tab I see this on my G4
I have in fact used the same "Computer name" here (As in RalphG4)
My MacBook Pro has had the Netbois Name changed to Macbook Pro
It shows in the G4 Shares as that.
The Finder's Preferences are set to Display the Bonjour and SMB shares that I can see as I have a Mixed PC and Mac Network here
(Currently only the MacBook Pro is On as well)
SMB Shares are not on in the MacBook Pro settings so it shows as a Mac Server (Highlight and do a Get Info)
Two Computers with Same Name
In Bonjour when two computers end up with the same name (As my two did originally) these double name issue cannot be resolved and the computer may be "Seen" briefly before it then disappears
I have not tried it with SMB shares on my two Macs having had issues with Bonjour.
(Note: iChat goes one step further.
Even if the computer names are different iChat uses the Name in the My Card spot in the Address Book to show as the Buddy Name in the Bonjour Buddy List.
It cannot resolve this if both computers are logged in as the same Person.)
Another reason why a computer may show up twice is how it or they are connected.
Lets say that all are connected to a router either by Wifi or Ethernet.
They will be then seen once.
If one computer is connected by Ethernet and Wifi at the same time then it will be shown twice as each appearance is linked to the Media Access Card it is using and the IP it uses for each connection.
This can also happen if one is linked directly to another with an Ethernet connection or Wifi whilst doing the other to the router.
Back to the naming thing again.
It is better to use the Edit Button (Arrowed in Blue above) (.Local Name) rather than trying to change the computer's Name (Ralph Johns's Computer) as this is less reliable in later versions of the OS.

Different contrast with original HD files and files imported in Premiere Pro CS4

I'm experiencing a very strange problem. Not the first time though.
When I import files shot with reflex video cameras this is what happens:
It seems something like shadow/highlights feature in Photoshop, but I haven't done anything to have
such a huge difference.
When I import files shot with my Sony HVR Z1 regular videocamera nothing weird happens and everything
works perfectly.
Any ideas?

I now use CS5 and I do not use a "reflex" camera... so this is only a GUESS
Does your timeline have red over the "reflex" video when you 1st import, and before you do any work?
If yes, that means you have a mismatch between your project and your video

Canon G20 And File Importing

Happy Thanksgiving (almost there, anyway),
Final Cut Pro-X will support the footage generated by the Canon G20, but will it import it into the program directly from the camera or need the AVCHD files, et al., be copied to the hard disk first?

CS5 editing mode not supported and file import error

Hi. I edited a series of projects on PP CS5 on my iMac. My computer crashed, so I am now working off my MacBookPro to finish off a few projects. I have PP CS5, Final Cut Pro, and Quicktime all installed. I have also downloaded all the ProAppsQTcodecs. All of the projects were edited in Pro Res 422. I have been scouring the forums, but cannot find anything that has worked so far.

SUS survey send working funny and BP transfer so two questions

Hi all
When a vendor registers via the weblink a BP is create is SUS client. This is fine. However, my system for some reason is sending the survey without me having to click on Send Survey Pre-select vendors. I only want the survey to send once I select the accept the prospect and send the survey. I don't want them to get the survey in case I reject them.
Additionally when I attempt to transfer the vendor to the backend from Manage business partner > transfer the vendor leaves the prospect list but there is nothing in the supplier monitor and the vendor does not transfer to the back end. I've maintained the SBM_PRESCREENING in the buyer attributes against the Cat ID.
Any thoughts on these two issues?

HI Tracey,
As soon as suppliers fill in the initial registration form and select certain product categories, they will be sent questionnaires pertaining to those categories and you as a buyer can accept/reject them based on their response. This is standard system behaviour.
By vendor transfer to backend, do you mean transfer to ECC?

MTS File Import CS6

I have read through quite a few discussions on this, but I have tried many things and am really stuck right now.
Just finished a 3 camera wedding and the wide locked down cam was a Canon camcorder(Vixia HF M301) shooting 30(60i) AVCHD
When I import the files in the media browser to the project, everything is fine all the way from 00000 - 00035. 00036 is correct, but repeats itself through 00039.
00040 appears to be correct but repeats itself through 00046.
I have tried using media browser and file import methods and also dragging the clips directly onto the timeline. I have tried multiple methods of importing the private folder and directly with the file. The windows directory shows a matching XMP file with every clip which Premiere CS6 doesnt seem to recognize.
I had experienced something like this once on an older Canon camcorder using a hexidecimal file numbering system.
This is the reception section and since this cam ran for all most all of eve, I need it to sync audio with two other cams. I guess an option would be to re-encode providing that media encoder will recognize them correctly,and provided they would match relinking them, if not I am in deep doo-doo.This is a fresh project, and I have even tried to import them into CS5.5 to no avail.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Jim after a very long and frustrating day I finally managed to get it to work per your suggestion. I have always been diligent about copying all of the folder structure and making backups with my cards. I shoot GH2's and haven't had to deal with spanned files.
I had read your instructions earlier today while researching, and every attempt I made at getting to the file at the bottom of the directory, the view as AVCHD was grayed out. Just now cleaned the caches and dumped the prefs and made a fresh project, and was able to get view as avchd to work for the first time. Very happy right about now, and looking forward to editing tomorrow! Thanks so much!

Internet and file sharing on Solaris 10

Hello,
I have two intel machines at my home. One is running Solaris 10 and other one Windows Xp. Now i want to create a simple LAN ,share internet and files among these two systems. i have joined both machines together and they are connected to each other (confirmed by ping command).
Please help me out with any reference material on the web or give me steps what should i do.

You should be looking at Samba configuration for the file sharing part ,
For the internet sharing part it depends on how ur connectivity to the ISP is configured
If you have a broadband router , configure DHCP server on the router and get the systems to get their IPs from DHCP and you should be able to browse the net provided you have the other required bits such as DNS etc .

The value of the Channel Strip volume etc is not stored within the C Strip setting, as you have discovered.
If you really wanted, you could add a Gain plug to the strip, with it set to give the correct output level with the Fader set to 0
(Or just set the fader manually in MS)

Trying to import video files. Clock on files and hit import. Imovie says generating thumbnails and importing. Then after loading, no movies there. help?

My 14 year old son is trying to import videos into iMovie. He's done this a dozen times before with no problem. Here is what he's doing "I went to import movies, clicked on the idv files and hit import. On iMovie it said "generating thumbnails, and importing". Then it gave the loading sign. When it was done, none of the movies/videos were in Imovie. He needs to have this done as a xmas gift for a friend by Thursday .

After much research and troubleshooting, GoToMeeting replied with the final answer: We do not support the uploading of recordings to editing software. If you are having issues uploading a recording, unfortunately, we do not have tools or steps to resolve this. It is not a supported feature. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
The no longer plan to support editing of recordings made with their software. So, we are planning to find a new meeting provider.

Thumbnails show up. LR just will not import them.
Any idea what is going wrong?

If the Import button is not clickable, that means that Lightroom thinks you have no new photos to import (one possible reason is that they are duplicates)
So, you need to figure out why Lightroom thinks that. The way I would do this is to search your Library module for at least one of the photos, by file name. To do this, you would follow all 4 of these steps in sequence:
Click on All Photographs in the Catalog Panel on the left of the Library Module
Turn off all Filters (Ctrl-L or Cmd-L once or twice)
Expand all stacks: Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks
Search for one or more of the photos using the Filter Bar (press backslash), search by File Name

I agree Terrance. However, I was able to copy other large batches of other files (my music for example) without any issues. The issue only showed up when copying iPhoto's library and/or the photos themselves. This was repeated 3 times; I copied all my other files to the drive then it unmounted on iPhoto. And, as I said, again when I started with a fresh reformat and just iPhoto. That does not seem like hardware to me if it is only happening with one set of files.
I have managed to get the iPhoto library to work on my other external drive. It wanted a rebuild twice and a thumbnail rebuild once. I am now attempting to copy it over to the new HGST internal drive.
Anyone have a suggestion for alternatives to iPhoto? I have aperture, maybe I will try that. But from what I understand, it just shares the same library as iPhoto.
