Thumbnails there but no picture appears

Ok, I'm looking at my iPhoto now with all my pictures dsiplayed in film roll style. When I click on certain pictures, I guess it goes into edit mode, but the screen stays blank and there is like a timer going, as if it's taking time to upload or something. I see the thumbnails fine, and figured maybe the picture was a large file needing time time to load, but nothing happens??? when I drag the the picture off of iPhoto onto my desktop I can see it thruogh Photoshop?

What does appear?

I have just purchased the iPhone 5s and my previous phone was backed up on iCloud. However when I restored this on my new phone my photos are still being restored after 4 days. Shows the amount there but no pictures?

On my iCloud storage it still shows that my previous phone had all the info still?? I'm confused!

Many users have lost photos while preforming a restore from backup or upgrading the iOS. Recall, only photos in the camera roll are backed up to iCloud. There is a way to turn backups for camera roll on/off, perhaps these users had camera roll turned off.

Settings>icloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage, tap the device's name and on the next screen, be sure Camera Roll is turned on.
IMPORTANT...
Photos should be regularly synced to a computer (like you store photos from a digital camera) using either USB via iTunes (on a mac use iPhoto or Aperture to move them to an album) or using photo stream. If using Photo stream, but sure to move the received photos to a permanent album. If you have been doing that, then you can sync those photos back to your device.
Or, you can find other apps in the app store that send camera roll photos to a service like Dropbox.
If you haven't been saving photos except relying on iCloud to store them in a backup, then that is risky, as many users have discovered. I'm afraid I have no advice in this case - there is no "cure".

Movies lost. Thumbnail there but no movie, Arrrrh!!!

Movies of my kids, ie precious - as precious as and interlocked with my relationship with the wife and her in laws (less precious).
I have iphoto '09, snow leopard, and all movies imported from my digital camera before 30 Apr '08 have gone from iphoto. The thumbnail is there, and in information it will have 88mg or whatever, all in MPEG1 format, and none play when I double click them. They do after this date, with the same file format.
So... I installed Perian, no banana, right click the thumbnail to 'show file' and nothing is there. They are not in the originals folder that I can see. I can go back a way in time machine but can't access the files to see if the movies are there. Going back in time in iphoto doesn't work 'cos you can't play anything anyhow. How come there is the info with the thumbnail in iphoto but there appears to be no movie. How can I see if it is time machine, if so how do I recover it? Peeease help!
If these are lost, the rhetorical question deserving only mirth is how do I recover the relationship (just the wife would do!)

I expect you are getting this dialogue:
As long as you've copied your library to an alternate location I would say its ok to choose "Restore". If you don't like the results you can always restore your backup copy.
If this does not resolve the issue try searching your computer for movies. Do this by going to Finder and choosing File > Find. In the top of the window you will see "Kind" and "Any". Change the "Any" to movies to locate all movies on your computer. If you find the movies you are looking for click on one of them and notice the location at the very bottom of the screen. If it doesn't say iPhoto Library in the location then perhaps someone has been moving files. You could drag all these files to a central location (like a newly created folder on the desktop) and then add them back to iPhoto. Do not move images / movies that are located in the iPhoto Library. Doing so will damage the references to these files in iPhoto.

Unable to View .mod files in Photoshop Elements 11, can see they are there but no picture, I import them into Premiere and all OK ?

I have hundreds of .mod files which are supported but I am unable to view them on my Adobe Photoshop Elements 11. I cant see the picture icons as pictures or see the vision when i select them? I am running the latest Windows 8.1 PC with heaps of Ram and memory. If I import the files into Premiere they play fine?

I did re-set the prefs - but to no avail
I checked and my graphics driver and audio is all up to date.
No sure how to verify Windows Media Player's hardware acceleration options. I opened WMP Options /Perfformance tab and under Cd the DirX tab is checked.
Running Windows Vista - so does the same caution apply regarding a re-install of Windows Media Components and DirectX ?
Appreciate your help with this somewhat frustrating issue. I am converting some old 8mm film to avi with the hope of doing some edits then burning to DVD.

Having started using Nikon 810, photos open in Lightroom 5 but when I go Edit In Photoshop CS5, it opens but no picture appears. Help.

Choose the option to "Render with Lightroom" as it sounds like your version of PS has an ACR Plug in that is not the current one of ACR8.6. Or update PS to the latest.

Photo Album opens but no pictures? Camera also wont operate on opening?

I have had my 3GS for a week now and all good, except a little battery issue. However now, when i go to my photo album, sometimes it opens but no pictures appear. Along with this when I open the Camera, it opens but the shutter stays closed and you cant access the camera roll. This 'fixes' if I turn off the phone. But it eventually does the same again.
Any thoughts? similar experiences?

I'd try a full reset, not just a turn off and on. If that doesn't work I recommend a Restore, which should reload the OS.

In sending an email, a picture appears on my email from photo browser. I do not want any picture on outgoing emails and have no idea hoew it got there, but more importantly, have no idea how to stop it. can anybody help me?

My instructions are specific to signatures. If you know that it's not a signature then they won't make any difference. Thomas A Reed has suggested another explanation. Do you know that this picture is going out with your e-mails? Have you seen an e-mail you sent on a recipients computer? Try setting up a googlemail or yahoo account and send an email to it. Does the picture arrive in the e-mail?

Pictures look like they transfer via iTunes app window - but don't appear on iOS device

My pictures look like they transferred to iPad (the new) or iPhone (4) in iTunes (on the App page). I can see the files in the little app file share/transfer window, but the pictures do not show up in the iPhoto App on either iOS device.
Tried deleting the ios iphoto folder mentioned in a different post - did not help.
Deleted all pictures from the app window, and then synched, then tried putting in half as many (mostly because I didn't want to wait for a whole bunch to transfer like the first time ... still showing up in app window, still taking a long time to synch and saying that it is loading, and app percentage of disk space grows accordingly on device (in itunes monitor window). Go to iPhoto on device .... Only pictures are the ones taken by that device.
Photos in the sunflower still work like always, just can't use the cool iPhoto on any of my pictures not taken by the ipad or iphone!!!! GRRRRR!!!!!

This is happening on both the new iPad and iPhone 4.
I wrote under time pressure yesterday, here is more complete history.
purchased iPhoto app on the New iPad, then plugged in, launched iTunes, went to App tab, went to File Sharing - selected iPhoto, Clicked Add... button, selected photos/iphoto ... used daisyA to select all and clicked open.
All photo names appeared in the iPhoto Documents box. Then clicked Sync button (3 hours later) Sync complete - all photos listed in iPhoto Documents box in iTunes. Memory indicator shows application consumption of memory has grown appropriately for having added all those photos.
eject and disconnect iPad .... no photos appear in iTunes except for those taken by the device. Did same procedure on iPhone 4 .... same result. I can group, edit, view, and tinker with the photos taken by the device (ie iPhoto working as it should), however I can't see any of the photos from my long time iPhoto library not taken on this device that the iTunes file share window on the app tab says are there (and app memory usage also indicates are probably there).
Turned off both devices and then re-started -- no help
Soft reset both devices (dimple & power key, hold till restart happens) - even though the power down / power up should do at least the same thing. No help
Deleted iPod Photo Cache in iPhoto app (home/pictures/right click iphoto show package contents ... )
Synched again - no help
Deleted all pictures listed on app tab in file share window for iPhoto iOS app.
Synched - indicator for amount of memory used by apps decreases appropriately
Still can see and use photos taken by device and no others
Powered down then re- started device again.
Plugged in and open iTunes, use file share window on app tab to add just a dozen pictures this time (instead of all). Then sync - Still cannot see the pictures in the iPhoto app on the device .... file share window on app tab of iTunes says they are there. Indicator for memory useage says they are there - progress bar during sync says they are being added, I just cant see them in the iPhoto iOS app when I click on the Photos selector in the iOS iPhoto app.
Photos are on the iPad and synching with the ipad from iphoto into the sunflower app that comes with the devices. Just won't go into iPhoto!

Tried to reinstall iPhoto library from external hard drive, it shows that the photos and events are there but there are no thumbnails and if you click on an image or video nothing comes up.

My hard drive crashed recently and we took it to apple to get repaired. The apple employees said that they would have to replace the hard drive but they didn't have the equipment to get the data off my hard drive. So I took it to a computer store who had the right equipment after a month and a half of waiting they finally got all the data off my hard drive and put it on an external hard drive (Seagate Expansion Portable Drive). I then took it back to apple who replaced the hard drive. Now I'm in the process of reinstalling everything. I have never done a Time Machine back up or backed my laptop up to . Which I now will do very often once I've reinstalled everything. I have reinstalled all of my desktop images and folders as well as my iTunes library with no issues. However when i went to reinstall my iPhoto library it came up blank. I then Rebuilt the library several times and this was the result.
It shows that the photos and events are there but there are no thumbnails and if you click on an image or video nothing comes up.
Please help i have three years worth of images from holidays on here and would be devastated if i lost them.

iPhoto cannot find the thumbnails or the original pictures.
Go to your iPhoto Library in the Pictures Folder.
Right-click on it and from the resulting menu, choose 'Show Package Contents'.
This will bring you inside the iPhoto Library package. There you should see a Folder called Masters. Within that, there should be folder containing your actual photos.
Are they there?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.

Why do pictures appear in the wrong position in Firefox but in right place in Internet Explorer?

I am running Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.6.6 and have been looking at the following website www.finningley.org and on the home page there is a picture of an aeroplane that appears in the correct place on Internet Explorer but is over the text in Firefox. I have tried changing the resolution but Firefox always looks incorrect whereas I E is fine. What can be done to solve this issue?

The overlapping is caused by the fixed height of the containing DIV:
