Thumbnails view as Hourglass in Organizer 11

Recently I installed the Photoshop Elements 11.  Imported some media, and no problems with thumbnails.
Only the next time I tried to add media, the thumbnails show 'hourglass' .. when I click on the hourglass, the
photo's are there.  I've tried to update thumbnails, uninstalled and reinstalled the software, and still the
problem exits.  Would greatly appreciate your advise.  Thank-you!!
Does anyone have a problem with Photoshop Premiere Elements conflicting when you drag
& drop photo's, video's with the Photoshop Organizer?  I have a Mac OS 10.6.8 system.
Thanks!!

Okay.. so if you are on Windows platform, goto the location : %programdata%\/Adobe/Elements Organizer/Catalogs and double click the folder whose name is same as your catalog. On MAC the location you go to would be : ~/library\Application Support\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs
Now there must be a file with name thumbs.cache. Simply rename it.
Launch Organizer and see if thumbnailing happens now for your catalog. If not, run the following two commands-
File >> Manage Catalogs >> Select your catalog >> Optimize
File >> Manage Catalogs >> Select your catalog >> Repair
Thanks

  • CAN'T SWITCH TO THUMBNAIL VIEW IN ORGANIZE AN ALBUM

Just loaded Tiger on my Titanium and it did not come with
iLife or iPhoto 5, so I'm stuck with iPhoto 2 for a while...
One thing I noticed after moving from Panther to Tiger is when
I chose Organize for an Album, the pics are no longer thumbnails and each pic is big making moving them around and
rearranging the order rather difficult as I have to use the scroll bar to get to the one I want to move and then drag it
up or down... The thumbnail view was so handy, How can I toggle back to the thumbnailview in Organize... I've tried
everything I can think of with no luck.... HELP???

THANK YEW!!! God bless this forum and all you helpful MAC freaks!!!

  • Organizer Thumbnail view

Each time I switch between the Single Photo View to the Thumbnail view I have to reposition the slider to get the thumbnails to show the file name, etc.  Is there an option or preference setting that will keep the slider where I put it so when Organizer opens, it opens with the thumbnails the size I want?
Its really annoying to have to keep resetting the silder.
Second question - is there an option to show the thumbnails at the bottom of the screen (Single Photo View) in a "filmstrip" like configuration similar to what Lightroom does so I don't have to keep switching from Single View to Thumbnail view?
I'm really new to Elements and maybe I've just missed an option setting - or it seems like Lightroom's workspace is better?
    Thanks

    Hi,
You could try this as a sort of filmstrip:-
    1. Select the images you want to review
    2. Use F11 to switch to full screen mode (Cmd & F11 for MAC)
    3. Use Ctrl & F to toggle the image thumbnails appearing on the right hand side of the screen in a strip
    4. Use Esc key when finished
    Hope that helps

  • Lost thumbnail view in iPhoto Library

I've been working on a very large iMovie project which is not going so well and somehow I lost my thumbnail views next to the iPhoto Library Source. I have tried everything, and like when I click on "View" I cannot highlight "show thumbnails". I have researched topics and found one that talks about the Pictures Folder & what folders contain what, and nothing on how to get my thumbnails back. It is almost impossible to organize without them. Help please, I don't know what happened.
    Thank You,
    Marge

    Marge,
In the view menu, "show thumbnails" is only an active option when you are in one of iPhoto's edit modes: it refers to the horizontal strip of thumbnails that can be shown (or hidden) across the top of the iPhoto window. When you are viewing your library or an album, it is normal for this option to be gray.
That being said, what do you see in the iPhoto window? Are any of your photos visible? Do you have blank gray squares? Have you tried using the slider in the bottom right of the window to change the size of the thumbnails (if this is all the way to the right you will only see one photo at a time).
Have you ever used the Finder to change anything in your iPhoto Library folder in any way? (This includes renaming and moving files or folders.) This causes big problems, so if you have, post back with some details and we'll try to help you repair the damage.
If iPhoto is acting quirky you can delete its preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Find it inside Home/ Library/ Preferences. Then when you launch iPhoto your preferences will be reset to their defaults, so you may need to reset them back to your liking.
One more thing to try is a database rebuild. Hold the Command and Option keys while launching iPhoto. Check the first 3 options and let it work. It can take a few minutes. This process allows iPhoto to recreate its database file, which can improve performance and stability if that file was causing problems.
Post back with some of the above info, and we'll go from there.

  • How can I make folder view the default view when I open Organizer?

I just bought Adobe Elements Photshop and Premier 11.  I spent 2 to 3 hours getting my picture video library into Adobe's organizer.  I had some problems with duplicate picture (that I wanted to be there - so I had to rename them) and a couple pictures with corrupted metadata.  After I got all that sorted out I am a bit miffed about the folder view on Adob'es organizer.
I love that you can switch to folder view - since this is how I have been organizing my pictures for a long time.  I would like to continue organizing this way for now until I get a grasp on the other ways I can organize them in elements.  However, every time I close and re-open organizer it switches back to the default view instead of folder view.  PLEASE tell me that there is a way to set folder view to the default view!  HELP!

Perhaps it’s a design feature to speed up the Organizer launch.
    I am sure it is.
    - The normal use of the Organizer is not the folder view, it's the thumbnail view with an organization based on categories and folder. That way you should forget completely where your pictures are stored. Anyway, the folder view in the Explorer is not a map of the location of the different bits of your file, it's only a logical representation. That's easy to see when you are doing a defragmentation.
    - The folder view is useful even for those using normally the thumbnail view, but that is only for rare cases when you must change the folder organization, for instance moving files to another drive. The folder view is here to prevent you from changing things from the explorer and outside of the Organizer.
    - The new folder list view, which you find 'funny' is there to help better organizing using tags. Its huge advantage is that such a view is created extremely quickly by extracting the last subfolder in the media table : it's the way the database sees the folders, based on its own content,  totally ignoring the complex folder organization of your disk with media files or any unrelated other kind of data. You should use it in many cases, the main purpose being assigning tags when you have assigned descriptive folder names. I had suggested such a solution to prevent the long standing bugs in the folder view of previous versions.
    So yes, the purpose is:
    - to speed up switching modes
    - to help folder organization fans to migrate to tags organization
    - to hopefully get rid of the old folder organization bugs

  • Thumbnails won't show in Organizer

I have loaded quite a few of my video clips into the organizer. I can see they are there, but they have not thumbnail image. So it's difficult for me to tell which video is which. I can click on them individually to see what the image is, but that is not efficient at all! I cannot tell quickly at a glance what video is what.
I have loaded the latest Quicktime on my computer.
    Any other suggestions?

Your first try at "Update Thumbnail" gave great results. However, the results with the next other five was not so great. In trying to explore the why, do you see any difference in the files, that is, was the first file from one camera and the other from a different camera?
There are 2 ways to get thumbnails into the Elements Organizer.
    a. Elements Organizer and its File Menu/Get Photos and Videos/from Files and Folders
    and
    b. Just import the file into Premiere Elements workspace with Premiere Elements Add Media/ and get the file to the Timeline. When you do that, automatically a copy is placed in the Elements Organizer as a thumbnail there.
Your iPhone5 and iPod Touch 4th generation videos should be going into your Elements Organizer (one way or the other). So, from the point of view of video formats causing the issue, the why is not obvious.
When you import video into a Premiere Elements project, automatically a copy of that video is included in the Elements Organizer. Have you tried that route to get the videos into the Elements Organizer rather than importing the videos into the Elements Organizer first?
So, when I wrote the above in a prior post, I wanted to see if "a" and "b" were giving you the same result when you wanted to view file thumbnail(s) in the Elements Organizer.
Let us be in sync on the above.
We could explore creating a new catalog. How much content do you have in the present one? But, we can go into detail on that at whatever level you feel comfortable with.
We will be watching for your results.
    Thanks.

  • View of versions in Organizer in PE9 different from prior versions

I just loaded PE 9 (I was using PS 8).
In Organizer in PS8 (and in prior versions) non-version photos in the thumbnail view are all on a dark gray background.  When you modify a photo the stacked version thumbnail then appears as a slide with a lighter gray background.  Thus, it was very easy to distinguish photos that had been modifed from those that had not.  In Organizer PS9 in the thumbnail view, the gray color for all of the photos appears eactly the same (in PS9's Organizer, they look like they are version sets in the PS8 Organizer).  (Note that In both PS8 and PS9, there is the little symbol that apeears in the upper corner of the photo that shows that it is a version set and the little triangle on the right side of the background surrounding the photo is there in both versions - those have not changed.  What appears to have changed is the ability to distinguish quicly, using the background color, modified from unmodified photos!)
So, is there a way to get the same effect in PS9 Organizer? (I sure hope so - if not, the change this would be a huge step backwards.)
    Thanks much!!!

    Here's what I see in PSE 9:
Here's how I'd like it to look (from PSE 8) - you can see how much easier it is to tell which photos have been modified (and which have not) - when you go through as many photos as I do in Photoshop Elements (probably 50,000 or so per year), it really helps to have things the way they were in PSE8:

  • Lost Thumbnail View of library suddenly!

I was transferring a photo that was misdated as a 2005 photo and when I went to look for it in the 2005 folder, I hit "organize" which usually brings me back to my preferred thumbnail view of all my shots in chronilogical order. Well, they are still in chron order from new to old but only full view is available. I have checked all the options on the toolbar, looked in preferences to see if there was an option to "view thumbnails". NOTHING. Any help?

Hi, Kristin. Your mistake was thinking it would be OK to move anything around inside your iPhoto Library folder. It isn't. Stay out of there at all times. Only iPhoto itself should ever arrange, rearrange, move, edit or rename anything inside that folder, as this quote from iPhoto Help indicates:
"Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto Library folder
If you move, delete, rename, or otherwise tamper with files or folders in the iPhoto Library folder, you may be unable to see your pictures in iPhoto."
This is a real annoyance, and it flies in the face of a core principle that all long-time Mac users take for granted: that they're in charge of where things are filed on their computers. But it's a fact, and you ignore it at your peril.
You may be able to regain access to your photo library by rebuilding it. To do so, hold down the Shift and Option keys while you open iPhoto, and click OK when you're asked if you want to rebuild the library.

  • Is there a photo album app that let's you add a photo to an album from the full-screen view of a photo, not the just thumbnail view?

Is there a photo album app that let's you add a photo to an album from the full-screen view of a photo, not the just the thumbnail view?

...It's just really annoying to try to organize photos into an album when you can't see the full screen version of the photo... especially if you have several similar-looking photos, and you can't tell the one you want from looking at 40 thumbnails on an iPhone screen.

  • In Photoshop Express, cannot sort images in album by filename in thumbnail view (for slideshow)l.

In Photoshop Express, I want images to appear sorted by filename.  In the "view as a table" it sorts fine.  When I revert to the thumbnail view, the arrangement is random.  The dropdown "show" list does not offer an option for showing by filename.  If I select the"custom" option, it means I would need to sort 300 images by filename MANUALLY (!!!), a job that a computer does in milliseconds.  Anyone with a solution?  Thanks.

fwiw, with my images in the 'Folder Location' view the photos are in order by their Windows filename. That is the same order as the hardcopy album the photos came from. So I then created a PSE Album. I selected all my photos and moved them into that album. The order of the pictures was retained in the Album. That worked out great. I wanted my PSE images to be in the same order. I thought I would do it with tags. But creating an album seems to work just fine.

  • How do I move page order in Thumbnails view in the new pages? (which is driving me nuts btw)

I'm really struggling with the new pages, having used the old version so much I just can't get the hang of this one - so much has changed:( Really wish I hadn't bothered but now have too many documents created in it that I can't open on old version as it doesn't let you (mump mump - well I am scottish).
So in the old version I used thumbnail view to move about the order of the pages (really useful when making up artwork for magazines etc). Anyone know how to do it on the new version?
Also can't seem to view document in '2 up' - 2 pages side by side (also very handy for magazines etc).
Also the tables facility doesn't let you move borders of individual cells - you can only move the whole column - I can't even select them.
I could go on but will go before I start the 'pages shake'.

    Hilary,
Scottish or not, your best option is to retreat to the last good version of the app, Pages '09.
    Cut your losses.

  • Why can I no longer copy and paste a page in the thumbnails view?

We used to be able to copy and paste, even edit the order of the pages in thumbnail view. Why has ALL of this functionality been removed?! Or is there some special way to do it now that isn't as intuitive?

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Pages 5 has had 90+ features removed and a load of bugs added.
Any sensible user will just say "Pass!"

  • New Pages no longer allows SECTIONS (in thumbnail view window) to be re-arranged like before?

New Pages no longer allows SECTIONS (in thumbnail view window) to be re-arranged like before? You could drag and drop sections within your document the same way you could drag and drop pages in Preview's PDF documents. So how do you re-arrnage your document now?
    ALSO
You used to be able to duplicate/copy a section/page by draging it with OPTION-LEFT-CLICK to a space below or above in the thumbnial window. The same way it works in PREVIEW in a PDF document. Did I miss something or is this also a bug?!
These were extremely helpful to me and I hope many others. Can anyone help!?
    Thanks :-)

Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5.

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5 and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • How to get thumbnail view in File-Open

When I go to File-Open I would like my directories to come up in thumbnail view right away, instead of having to click on the View icon and then on Thumbnails. Is there any way to make this view the default?

No, I gave you bad advice -- relied on something I had heard without
checking it myself -- sorry. I've now done some checking, and there
doesn't appear to be any way to do what you want. What I do is open My

    drop into PSE.

  • Scroll bar stuck on Thumbnail view

Whenever I am using the scroll bar to scroll in the thumbnail
view ,which is set to large, the scroll bar gets stuck. When I
place my mouse on the bar and move it up and down it does not stop
and jumps to different places in the thumbnail view - I can't seem
to control it. I have tried turning on the libary and clicking
around in it, but this does not fix the problem. The only solution
I have found is to shut Captivate 2 down and start it again. Any
    suggestions?

    Hello queenlooners,
I spoke with some of my colleagues and unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to disable the scroll bar. There have been other discussions on the forums such as overlaying the scroll bar or embedding it in a sub-panel.
