Thumbs fine, images not appearing in Edit

Up until a few days ago everything was fine. All the thumbs are appearing in the Library, but when I double-click on one to view the larger size in Edit, I get a grey screen with an exclamation point, obviously meaning a link is broken or something and it can't display or find the photo.
We have tried to organize the photos a bit, but only changed a few names, and this problem is occurring with all (hundreds) photos.
Any ideas to troubleshoot this would be great!
thx

I am not an expert, but I'll tell you what I did in case it could help you. When I first started using iPhoto (before I knew the Golden Rule) I tried to rename some folders in the Finder and the same thing happened. Fortunately, it was relatively simple to get them all back.
Trying to reorganize the iPhoto Library folders in the Finder upsets iPhoto and makes it refuse to read your pictures in full-screen view. In my experience the pictures were still completely intact, as I could open them in Preview and Photoshop Elements. So when this happens you have to remove the affected pictures from iPhoto and then import them to iPhoto again.
Before you do anything, read this all the way through. You might try out this process with just a few expendable pictures first, to make sure it works. That way if it goes wrong you don't lose everything.
1. In the Finder, move the corrupted files to a new location NOT IN the IPhoto Library. This will be a temporary location, so to make it simple I just add them to a folder on my desktop. BE SURE you are moving the pictures that come from the Originals folder within the iPhoto Library. These are the full-size files. (The Data folder only has thumbnails, and these are too small to be useful.)
2. From your new folder, make sure those files work in another application, like Preview. In my case, there was no damage to the actual picture files themselves.
3. In iPhoto, move all corrupted photos to the iPhoto Trash. Anything that goes to an exclamation point in full screen view has to be deleted from iPhoto. Be Careful: these are the original pictures that you have copied to a new folder on the desktop. So you are removing them from iPhoto, but you are keeping the files in another place on your hard drive.
4. Empty iPhoto Trash. You have to do this before your re-import, or it won't work. At least, this has been my personal experience.
5. In iPhoto, go to File > Add to Library and select the pictures from the place where you had moved them in step 1 (such as a folder or folders on your desktop). This will cause iPhoto to import them, organize them the way IT wants, and put thumbnails in the Data folder.
6. After importing, check that the pictures do, in fact, appear in full screen view in iPhoto.
7. If the pictures are back fully functional in your iPhoto Library, you can trash the temporary desktop folder you used for the rescue. iPhoto has filed them all in the iphoto Library the way IT wants, and you won't need them in the other location anymore.
8. Now you know the Golden Rule: NEVER change anything in the iphoto Library folders in the Finder. You can organize your rolls, change picture names, dates, and comments within iPhoto. And if you edit your pictures in another application, save them in folders NOT in the iPhoto Library. You can always import them to iPhoto if you want. iPhoto won't read anything that it hasn't imported.
Maybe you experts out there could tell the Mac people to print the Golden Rule directly on the install disc. I mean, I didn't read the forums until I had a problem, and after reading the Rule I thought "well, now they tell me...."

  • Images not appearing in finished .CHM

    Hi:
    Recently upgraded from RH5 to RH7.
    A little background: Our project in RH5 had an inexplicable
    case of the .chm file size DOUBLING after a minor accident in
    mistakenly editing some HTML in the "Truecode" page. That's over;
    not the issue here.
    A non-Adobe trainer helped me troubleshoot that, mostly by
    rebuilding the project from scratch IN ROBOHELP 5. Worked fine,
    finished .chm files back to their expected sizes, all well with the
    world. Imported the project into RH7 from a duplicated copy of the
    project folder. Got nervous about working in RH7, since our company
    had a major release of OUR product coming out.
    Returned to working on project in RH5. I had been properly
    cautioned against working on RH7-converted files, and was back in
    my original, fixed up RH5 project.
    Ever since then, however, SOME IMAGES DO NOT APPEAR. The
    result is grossly-unprofessional-looking, all-too-familiar white
    fields with the tedious little red "X" symbol, as on a badly built
    website, circa 1998. This is not OK at all.
    I have rebuilt these pages NUMEROUS times, carefully
    reimporting THE CORRECT IMAGE from its original location, and
    REIMPORTING, properly registered, added to the project, from backup
    locations. THESE IMAGES ARE PRESENT in the (RH5) WYSIWYG page, AND
    in the Topic Preview view.
    Upon Adobe "Tech Support" advice, I have hand-corrected EVERY
    quirky file name in the project (I inherited this project from
    someone who should have known better than to use special characters
    in file names), in order to eliminate any possible source of
    corruption. EVERY FILE NAME, not just images.
    File names corrected "in" RoboHelp (still version 5), and NOT
    in Windows, of course.
    Problem remains.
    Have once again, duplicated project folder and run project in
    RH7. Problem remains.
    Am ready to set my hair on fire and run screaming into
    traffic. Will post scheduled date and offer ticket sales.

    Hi:
    Thanks for the reply! I have been UTTERLY scrupulous about
    keeping precisely time-matched and points-in-my-process-matched
    copies of the project folder for logical, "scientific" testing in
    RH5 and RH7, on precisely matched content.
    I have never even tried to open an RH7-processed copy of the
    project in RH5 because I was warned strongly against this action.
    It boils down to this; I cleaned up, FANATICALLY, all those
    illegitmate filenames, ran the project again in 5, still got
    impermissible missing images (and I mean MORALLY impermissible,
    because I'm doing the right thing!)
    Then, I took that project folder, copied it, and opened the
    exact same ingredients, via the .xpj file, in RH7. Same missing
    images.
    WAIT! Left out something important in first post! Dang; this
    was important! I've fixed missing images, had them appear properly
    upon compilation, then had others that HAD been right, come out
    missing. Have also had reimported, re-placed images come out upon
    compilation following repair, and then go missing again on third or
    later, subsequent compilations. Maddening.
    Am EXTREMELY reluctant to delete CPD file, because the last
    time I did that, I lost EXTENSIVE work I'd done on TOC and Index.
    Not cool at all.
    Hope this wasn't too cranky; truly grateful for help. Just
    very frustrated.
    Thanks!

    Hi
    I have a an application wich displays an HTML page in a JEditorPane (an About box for the application). This html is loaded from the hard disk which has several images on it. • Images not appearing in Nakisa Org Hierarchy or Position Hierarchy

    Hi,
    I have configured Nakisa Org Structure to show photos of a few employees. The photos have been saved in the images/Portraits folder and are of the same size as the rest of the photos in this area. I have also pointed Nakisa Images to this folder in the Application wide setting. Also, I have used the Details Designer in OrgChart--> Position and edited the Images section to point to EmpDetails2 --> Personnel Number. I have also ensured that the photos have been saved as Personnel Number.jpg. Also, in the Position Hierarchy, I have done a similar mapping.
    However, the photos are still not appearing despite having published the Org Chart several times.
    I would really aprpeciate a quick response from you.
    Thanks,
    Vibhu

    Hi Vibhu,
    Have you checked the XSL files that control the images? I believe they are EmployeePictureXSL.xsl and EmployeePictureCondensedXSL.xsl. You might need to amend them to fit your solution.
    I hope that helps.

  • Images not showing on edit

    Hi
    I have Contribute CS3 on the PC and when I navigate to this
    page
    http://www.beaufieldhomes.co.uk/homes/white_gates.html
    I can see the images, however when I edit the page I can no longer
    see the large image on the right of the page.
    I also have Contribute on the Mac and this works fine. I have
    been through the forum and checked for similar errors but don't
    find anything similar. The menu images do appear, so is this an
    error within Contribute?. Its very frustrating....!
    Help me please
    Jamie

    This might have to do with your layout, as I tried it in
    Contribute 4 and it had the same issue. It looks like the image
    file is pushed to the right (almost tucked in between and if you
    pull the table resize handle and stretch it to the left, you can
    then see the image file, and then select it.

  • Images not appearing on slide

    I am using Captivate 4, Windows XP.
    For some time now I have been working, without any problems as foolows:
    Taking screen shot using Snagit. Editing image and then saving to folder.
    Adding the image to Captivate slide via the insert image option.
    Suddenly today, after selecting required image and clicking on "insert" from within Captivate, the image does not appear on the slide.
    However there is an "image" in the timeline, but if you right click on this.. and then go to "properties", nothing come up.
    Attached is an example...there are no other images on the slide (header/footer is merged onto slide), so cannt be a case on image is "behind" something.
    I have on-going problems with Captivate when connected to company network...very slow and most times I get message telling me Captivate is not responding...and I have to wait and wait until it kicks in to life. Could this be related?

    Hi Lilybiri,
    I have (again) requested my IT dept to take a look at what is going on.
    If they cannt/wont help, then I may well take up Rick's very kind offer.
    The more I think about it, the more I believe my problem(s) stem from having to link up to Adobe when working on-line.
    It takes about 30 seconds from the time I open the initial Captivate start screen (attached) before any of the links become active.
    That strikes me as way too long and might be the cause of the problem.
    Any idea if this "link to Adobe" can to turned off? What do I need the link for anyway...day to day?

  • Enhanced Podcasts images not appearing in iTunes

    I'm using the host site Podbean.com to publish to iTunes. My enhanced podcasts (m4a) files appear on the host site (http://bias.podbean.com) just fine. But when I watch them on the iTunes host page (below) the images do not appear in the podcast while it plays. I have the cover photo but none of the photos in the enhanced podcast. When I originally sent it to iTunes from GarageBand it worked fine, (and still does in my playlist) but the feed available to my students (which is the whole point) doesn't come out right, thoughts?
    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=310271037
    feed://bias.podbean.com/feed/

    iTunes does not show the images in enhanced podcasts when you simply play them from the Store page - don't ask me why. If you subscribe, then you will see the images, and this is the best way for your students to get your podcasts.
    If you click the 'subscribe' button on the Store page, then you will see the podcast listed when you click on Library>Podcasts in the sidebar. Clicking on the disclosure triangle will show the list of episodes: the latest one will be downloaded automatically and you can click on 'Get' to download the earlier ones. All subsequent episodes will be downloaded automatically as soon as they are published (provided iTunes is running). When you play them you will see the images.

  • Map ID not appearing in "Edit Map IDs" dialog box

    I have RH HTML 8. I am adding new topics and assigning map IDs to those topics via the Edit Map IDs dialog box.
    All of my map IDs appear in the BSSCdefault.h file as well as the project's .hm file. I even manually added the topic string to the project's ali file. However, it is not appearing in the Edit Map IDs dialog box. If it's not appear there, where does this dialog box get the map strings and map IDs from?
    No FARP685 string:

    Peter,
    I think your discussion of this problem could explain the situation and propose a workaround more simply than it does.
    Based on your article, I assumed that Robo displays only the built in Word list styles such as List and List Continue (since those were the only styles showing up in the style mapping dialog and since your example shows matching a Robo style named List Mapping to a Word built in style named List). I assumed I would have to match my Bullet style to a style named List in Word, and match the indented bullet style to List 2, and so on. The actual situation is that Robo, for some godforsaken reason that only idiots would understand, will not show a Word style if any numbering (bullets or numbers) is applied to it. That is, one does not have to avoid a class of styles called “List styles”, one only has to avoid applying numbering to the styles until later.
    Thus the workaround is to create the word styles (with names that match the Robo styles!) that contain every attribute you need EXCEPT the numbering. That is, I can link Bullet to Bullet and Number to Number and Indented Number to Indented Number, and so on and on, as long as I have all the Word styles in the template with their numbering set to None.
    Then after I generate the document, I can modify the styles to add the appropriate numbering, and voila!
    Currently scrolling the doc & modifying styles. Might be a glimpse of daylight.

  • Image not appearing correctly in table

    Hi Friends,
    I am doing the Store Front tutorial and as a part of I am displaying the product details as the table. The details are showing fine in the table. However in the image it is showing text. I have added a image component in the text and also set the binding to #{bindings.image.inputValue}.
    Now when I select the first row in the table, all the images for the other rows are same. It shows the same image as that of the first row in all rows. When I go to the second row it shows the image related to second row in all rows. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    the binding should be
    #{row.bindings.image.inputValue}.

  • Images not Appearing after Deinstall

    We deinstalled Portal30 and the Login Server for 3.0.8 using Oracle Portal 3.0 Configuration Assistant. (9iAS 1.0.2.2). Then reinstalled. Now the images appear when we go to the gateway.htm page but do not appear on the Oracle portal30 or portal30_sso dad pages. If we right-click over the placeholder for where the image is supposed to be and do a 'View properties' for the image we get 'Forbidden You do not have permission to access /images/image_name' on this server - Oracle HTTP Server Powered by Apache/1.3.1.2 Server.

  • Images not appearing/printing in PDF properly

    I'm working in CS4. I never had this issue in the past, but now when I save files as PDFX1a some of my images do not appear when printing. I can see them in the PDF, but they print as a white silhouette. I did embed the images.

    Where is it you want the navigation to appear?
    Try this CSS -
    #mainnav {
    clear: both;
    display: block;
    float:right;
    margin-right:50px;
    margin-top:25px;
    overflow:hidden;
    padding:0;
    width:350px;

  • Image not appearing in the Web Parameter Form

    Hello Folks,
    I have image in the Parameter form, which is not showing up in the Web Parameter Form. I had set up the "REPORTS_PATH" also and still not appearing.
    Any clue greatly appreciated..
    Thanks,
    Senthil

    I ran into this problem as well, and there is a work around if you do not want to apply the patch. Put the image in your <oracle_home>/apache/apache/htdocs directory. Then in your report in the parameter section, create a text box. Put this in the text box:
    <img src="http://<your_servername>.<your_domain>:<your_port>/<your_gif>">
    Go into the parameters of the text box you just created(hit F4) and choose YES for Contains HTML. Then when you run the paramter form on your web server the image will be displayed.
