"Thump" sound coming from speakers after upgrading to 10.4.10

After updating to 10.4.10, there's a not so loud but discernible "thump" sound coming from the speakers every like 5 minutes or so. Very anoying.
It's very easy to spot it when having external speakers connected to the audio port.
It just wasn't there before, anyone else having that??

I can't seem to find any of the posts you mention (??) about the "pop" sound, it has to be the same type of sound is very anoying I had to disconnect my external speakers.
My volume has been always very low, yes 1-3 clicks are not audible. I would hope they made an option of this lower volume thing just like the ipods have it, where one would decide where to limit (or not of course) the volume.
I hope they resolve this issue soon.

  • Scratchy sound coming from speakers

    # After searching the forum,?I had to post. I have the X-Fi Xtreme Audio card installed. When I playback any songs or videos, i get a scratchy sound from the audio. I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled twice with no improvement. Please help!

It's a shame a company this large doesn't have some moderators that will at least help pointing you in the right direction. I did consumer electronics repair for many years but that's been like 20 years ago. I came into the field just as we were switching from tubes to solid state. Fortunately electrons still flow in the same direction and block diagrams are still pretty much the same for most things.
I'm having the same problem with a THX 550 5. surround sound system. That scratchy sound unfortunately can come from many things from leaky electolytic capacitors to amplifier transitors breaking down to a physical aspect which is... if you have overdri'ven your speakers too many times the coils can be cooked which creates a scratchy sound as the speaker cone moves forward and backward. To make sure that is or isn't the problem get access to the speaker cone and apply pressure EVENLY to the cone and push it in and listen for the scratching. By evenly I mean put a couple of fingers on opposite sides of the cone and GENTLY? push in. Depending on the size of the speaker it travels a very little bit. Say on a 2? inch woofer the travel might be something like a quarter to half inch of travel. If that's your problem solution is simple... replace it. If not I'ld start looking at the larger electrolytic caps in the amplifier section. The only way to check these without a good and I mean good cap checker, the cheap ones will lie to ya, is to simply remove and replace. Best bet is if you can replace the board itself.
Hope that helps you a little.

  • Mic sound coming from speakers on X

Right now whenever I use my mic the sound that im inputing into the mic will come out the speakers. How can I make it so that the sound does not come out the speakers.

In the Windows volume controls (aka Windows Mixer), do you have "microphone" listed in the Playback section? If so, mute that, and in the Recording section select "microphone." That will let applications "record" microphone but won't pass it through to your speakers/headphones.

  • Low muffled sound coming from the speakers on IPod Touch

How can I resolve the low muffled sound coming from speakers on IPod Touch 4th generation?
Reset of apps was done and full reset of the IPod was done.

This is not normal and there is no solution you can administer from home without voiding any warranty you may have... i suggest taking it to your nearest apple store and letting them know, they are very good when it comes to these small problems and will most likely give you another iPod while they fix/throw away your old one... Do a backup first though, so you can load your files back onto the new one.

  • Sound coming from both speakers and headphones at the same time in probook 4440s

I have a Probook 4440s with windows 8 pro(64 bit) with IDT high definition codec installed. Yesterday when i was playing some songs i noticed that the sound was coming from both headphones and speakers even when my headphones are plugeed in and my lappy was having no such problems a few hours earliers while i was watching a movie. Please help..

It may be because you have both the internal speakers and headphones enabled at the sametime on your laptop. This might just happen automatically when you plug your headphones in. You need to manage your audio devices on your laptop.
Go to Control Panel> Hardware and Sounds> Manage Audio Devices> Playback Tab (which should already be selected)
In the playback tab there should be a list of all the audio devices you are using on your computer. Right click on the one you don't want to use and click disable. This should stop the sound coming from that audio device.
Remember: You will need to enable that audio device if you want to listen to sound through it again. Your internal speakers won't work once you enable them again. This might also be the case with your headphones. You may also have to do this every time your plug in a device or once you restart your computer.
Another note: Sometimes disabled devices will not show up on the audio device list so once you disable a device it will dissappear. This is an easy fix too. Just right click on an audio device and make sure show disabled devices and show disconnected devices is checked.
    I hope this helps.
(I was using a computer with Windows XP to explain the instructions but it should be similar with your Windows Operating System. You may however have to play around a little on your computer because it may be slightly different)

Do you have sound coming from the audio output port using headphones?  If so, when the plug is pulled out, is there a red light?

  • Buzzing/whining sound coming from top left keyboard area...?

For a couple of months now (I think, I can't pinpoint when exactly this started), there has been an annoying buzzing/whining sound coming from the very top left part of my keyboard (I think). It happens when the computer is on and dies down once I turn it off but kind of does a very quiet "tick-tick" thing for a few minutes after shutdown. At first I thought it was the screen because it sounds like it's coming from the very bottom left corner of the screen (or the very top left corner of the keyboard, I can't tell)... but adjusting the brightness doesn't seem to affect it. It increases when I'm typing or moving the cursor and decreases when I'm not doing anything, but it's always present. I have checked my hard drive and everything's okay, so I'm not sure what it could be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Performance hasn't been affected (as of yet), so it's just more of an annoyance.
Another thing - for a while now (probably over a year), the screen has been flickering intermittently. It will go darker to lighter to darker to lighter quickly whether the screen has been on only a few minutes or several hours. This seems to have decreased lately, but maybe the two issues are related...?
I got my MacBook soon after they came out with the first black one, whenever that was.
    Thanks for your help!

Why not answer my question if you want help? Does your "ordinary keyboard that has midi capabilities" have a transpose function or a split keyboard mode that you may have accidentally activated? Did you try the solution I offered you?

  • Harsh rattling sound coming from fan.

Normally, when I use an application that requires a lot of CPU power or when I'm watching a YouTube video, the internal fan speeds up to 6000+ RPM but it started sounding weird the past week. Right when I "wake up" my MacBook from sleep, I here a faint rattling sound coming from where the fan should be but it disipates after a few minutes. When I view a video though, the rattling becomes a bit louder combined with the normal sound of the fan. Also, I noticed when I picked up my macbook when its fan was going fast and tilted it to its sides, the rattling sound corresponds with the movement of the computer (louder each time I tilted it left to right).
Could the fan be broken/loose? I sprayed some air into the keyboard to get rid of dust but nothing changed. I recently ran out of my Applecare warranty last September. Thanks in advance!

    Hey
Sorry to say but you could be looking at a hardware problem. That being said there are still things you can  try.
Try this artile: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 for an SMC reset.
If that does not work make sure all of your software is up to date. If it is, you may have a hardware problem.
Run the Apple hardware test that came on the disc with the computer to see if it comes up with anything... Although sometimes it doesn't even if there is a problem.
    Regards,
    Britt.

  • Loud Beeping Noise Coming from Speakers - Virus?

    Ok,
So when I'm surfing in Safari i suddenly get beeping or actually its more of a drumming sound coming from the speakers a bit like 'dum dum dum', if i click on something on the page the noise will stop providing i don't release my finger off the mouse, once i do the noise starts again. If i close safari the noise will stop, however it randomly starts again... sometimes during the night when i've gone to sleep (with safari logged off).
Also during this stage of 'dum dum dum', if i click on anything in a menu bar the pull down appears however my chosen open which i have highlighted with arrow appears to highlight something else in the menu.
So far i've changed the mouse, can't narrow it down to a particular application. Any ideas? Virus perhaps?
By the way, i'm still trying to upload a video of the sound on youtube but its taking ages,
    Thanks in advance.

Yep, disabled that one. Sound has gone way for the moment, but now my mouse is having the same problem, when i click on a menu e.g History (in safari), move my mouse pointer to say Yesterday it highlights something else in the menu and jumps around. Very strange this.
