Thumping Sound thru Car Speakers

I am getting a thumping sound when I connect my Itouch 2G to my car stereo jack (3.5mm) This doesn't hAppen when I connect earphones. I can sometimes get it to go away but it's not because of jiggling or turning the connection. No rhyme or rreason why it abates. No consistent time-line for when it stops. Will start again if I disconnect cable and then re-connect.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!!!

I reported this same problem last Oct. Still no response or resolution. I hoped the new software would eliminate the problem, but no such luck. Now my album artwork is wrong on the touch, but shows correct on my MBP. Would REALLY appreciate answer on how to get rid of this ANNOYING thumping sound! Have itouch 2G.
Thanks much!!

  • Listen to touch thru car speakers with 1/8" audio cable

I had a 1st gen touch that I could connect to my car with a 1/8" audio cable. It allowed me to listen to my touch through my car speakers. I got a 3rd gen 32 GB touch and it doesn't work with the same cable. When I plug it in, the sound comes out of the touch's speakers. Is there a special 1/8" audio cable that I can buy that will allow my new touch to play through my car's speakers? Thanks!

I have a similar problem - I have a Logic 3 adapter that connects to the dock adapter and a 3.5mm plug on the other end to a jack in the car. Worked like a charm with an iPod but doesn't work with the iTouch. Also noted that when attached to a Bose sound dock - no charging but the music works. There must be something different in the design. Tried Bluetooth also but not able to connect it to the audio system (Blackberry works fine).

  • "Thump" sound coming from speakers after upgrading to 10.4.10

After updating to 10.4.10, there's a not so loud but discernible "thump" sound coming from the speakers every like 5 minutes or so. Very anoying.
It's very easy to spot it when having external speakers connected to the audio port.
It just wasn't there before, anyone else having that??

I can't seem to find any of the posts you mention (??) about the "pop" sound, it has to be the same type of sound is very anoying I had to disconnect my external speakers.
My volume has been always very low, yes 1-3 clicks are not audible. I would hope they made an option of this lower volume thing just like the ipods have it, where one would decide where to limit (or not of course) the volume.
I hope they resolve this issue soon.

mine does that too (very strange) but i just hit the home button which takes me back to the home screen.
You are right, but for some reason the Voice control screen comes back after a few seconds.
Another issue is that when connected to the Aux of my radio I loose the microphone on the iphone...
How did you work out this problem?
i don't have that problem of losing the microphone when the iphone is connected to the aux in the radio. when i attach my iphone to the aux (through the headphone jack) the voice control screen pops up, i hit the home button and continue to use the iphone as i normally would.

  • How to route phonecalls through the car speakers?

    Hi
Just bought iCarkit/Allkit FM transmitter/handsfree holder for Iphone.
    I have a Iphone 3GS 16 gb.
I've managed to get the ipod music thru the car speakers BUT not phonecalls.
    Could anyone please help me?
    Best regards
    Per from Norway

I played with it yesterday. The phone directs sound back out of the phone's speak when it is connected to the FM transmitter via the charging cable, but if you use the audio jack connector then voice will come out of the car stereo and the phone's microphone is sensitive enough for this to work. It is a bit of a pain though so I won't bother with this.
I didn't get any instructions with my unit I can not figure out how to set the presets. To be honest at the moment I am just using it as a holder for the phone as the beeping was driving me crazy. When the unit was plugged into my phone it seems to stop and start charging every few seconds causing it to keep going back to the battery indicator if left at the home screen - I thought this was probably not good for the phone.

Nowdays, since I have iPhone 5c, incoming calls, sound on speakers, but as soon as I answered, sound goes back to phone, then I need to change to vw phone by hand to hear conversation on the car speakers. Well tha's not safe, neither hands free calls, need help

We had the problem with our new iPhone 5 using i.o.s.6.0.1.  So we updated to 6.0.2 and the problem continues. Sure worked great with the iPhone 4s though.
Makes me think we shouldn't have moved to the iPhone 5.

  • Can i play my phone calls over my car speakers?

For some reason after installing my bluetooth I can hear my game sounds over my car stereo speakers. I've always wanted to be able to hear my phone calls over my speakers. Does anyone know if I can do this and if so, how do you set it up? Thanks.

Sure, if your car has the right features ...
My (and a lot of other) car(s), have a bluetooth pairing capability that includes a microphone in the car (ceiling).
So I can play music through the car speakers, and if a phone call comes in, the music will stop (iPhone feature) and once I answer the call (which I can do from pushbuttons on the steering wheel), I can talk (through the car's microphone) and hear (through the car's speakers).
Check out if your car is set up for this.

  • IN SL can't get chime to play thru external speakers

In 10.5 all my computer's sounds were set to be played thru external speakers. Now I can't get the startup chime to do it as it only plays thru the INTERNAL.
    Any reason?
    rd

Older Macs could play the startup chime through external speakers plugged into the headphone socket; but from a few years back this changed and on modern Macs the chime always comes from the built-in speakers.

  • Static interference from powerbook and thru my speakers is driving me crazy

I am using the powerbook 1.67, an airport express and klipsh speakers for my sound. there is a mexican radio station that is playing at a very low but very annoying level thru the speakers. I have a 2.4 cordless phone on my desk as well as a printer plugged into the AX. I unplugged the phone and it is not coming from there. I restarted the AX as well as the modem and it's still there. The only way it stops is when I unplug the speakers. So the speakers themselves are somehow picking up this interference it looks like. Any suggestions? It's driving me crazy.

+INTERESTING that there is no radio static from the iPod, but my silver Powerbook G4 sends out the static the second it is plugged in.+
+*and now the speaker company wrote back again*....+
Since the static did not follow the speaker to another source at least you now know that the problem is not in the speakers. I would have the sound card in your Mac checked, something seems to be sending out a strong enough magnetic wave to overcome the shielding in the speakers.

That is unfortunate to put up with.
There might still be some simple cures yet to try.
The entire house wiring may be one cause picking up the source and is using your devices as final output.
    1. I'd look for a power conditioned master brick to plug your PowerBook, and other devices.
USP back up power devices can also condition the power lines noise.
There are all types available as listed:
    http://www.thecablepro.com/cableDetail.php?cID=120&cgID=1
Each of the 12 outlets is individually filtered and double filtered from every other outlet providing maximum component to component isolation.
    http://www.crutchfield.com/ search 'surge'
    2. The Cables: as mentioned where chokes are already in place on them. Most USB come with them.
    3. The Speakers: Not sure, but they must be the self powered type as well from AC wall outlet. That brand is known for high quality.
Could foil the inside of cabinets “Faraday Cage” to reduce radio signals.
    4. AC Outlets: Are they 3 prong grounded type?
Check your fuse box area to see if a ground cable
(roughly 4-6 gauge) is fastened to plumbing, and should be.
You can also pick up a ground fault checker that just plugs into outlet to verify correct outlet wiring. A HomeDepot tool about $6.
    5. Lead from PowerBook to speakers:
If this lead is extra long leading to speakers, it too could gather radio.
If you have extra cat 5 laying around, convert the ends to make alternate lead. Each pair in the cable is color coded like Blue/Blue Wt. These pairs are twisted to shield out interference together with foil rapped covering. Or get shielded cable.
In the old days of Amps doing all the power to speakers, some people would have a pile of wire rolled up behind speaker, and it also made a perfect antenna.
Lamp cords: Make sure these cords are not mixed in with your devices. As in crossing over each other.
Dimmers: If you have lamps on line dimmers, they can go bad over time and cause interference.
Then back to circuit panel and cut off each circuit to isolate other sources.
    Hopefully you solve it.

  • Soft sound from rear speakers while playing mov

Hi,?Gaming and music is done via all speakers (i'm using analogue connection) just fine, but when i play a movie (using powerdvd 6?deluxe) i get faint sounds from the rear speakers. I had contact with creative's help desk in my country and we ran thru all system settings (e.g. thnx console). Everything was configured correctly., tho still a weak sound from rear speakers. They could not help me further ?I'm using a x-fi fatality soundcard with a logitech z-5400 speakerset.
When running a movie it shows a logo near the system tray : dolby digital. I am hoping one of u has a solution to this problem. Greetz,?Nask

In most of the cases, movies with mutichannel soundtrack do not use constantly every speakers. I think your case is normal and that's only your DVD's mix (as many DVD) that concentrates more on the front. try some of the sample there: http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/do...s/trailers.phpIf the first one sound at the same level for each speakers then it's alright.

You should go to the web site for the iTrip product and see what app it is, I'll bet there's a link there that will take you right to the app.  Don't worry, as you get more stuff it'll be easier to figure it all out, eventually it'll be plain old common sense that solves these types of issues for you

  • Problems Setting-up Airport Express to Play Music thru External Speakers

    Hi:
I have an HP dv6500z laptop connected to an HP printer C6280 via LinkSys wireless network using the LinkSys 54G router and PrintServer. It works fine.
I purchased an Apple Airport Express and want to connect it to this network so that I can play songs from within iTunes through external powered speakers wirelessly. The powered speakers are connected to the Airport Express (AE).
The AE is plugged into the AC outlet and the speakers are turned on. The AE is roughly 10 feet away from the laptop/router, just across the room. The AE's
LED is flashing amber (It does not yet recognize the network). I installed the Airport Utility from the enclosed CD, downloaded all patch upgrades and it installed successfully.
Now, how do I tell the Airport Utility to recognize and connect to my existing LinkSys network, so that the AE recognizes it ? The instructions are not clear on this note...they say to run the Airport Utility and then follow the on-screen instructions. The instructions tell you that you will lose your wireless network connection if you continue...and you do if you try.
The same information comes up if you try to do a manual install.
How do I connect the AE to an existing network ? This information seems to be missing. If I go to the AirPort Utility Help and search and search on Setting Up AirPort Express, it tells me the following:
Connect your stereo or powered speakers to your AirPort Express using the mini-jack on the top side of your AirPort Express, and then plug your AirPort Express into a wall outlet.
Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a computer using Mac OS, and in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows.
Click Music in the toolbar, and select the Enable AirTunes checkbox.
Problem: What Music in What toolbar ? I do not see this...
Enter an iTunes speaker name and password. This is the name displayed in the pop-up menu at the bottom of the iTunes window.
Problem: Where does this information come from
If you're setting up your AirPort Express for the first time, choose Assist Me from the Base Station menu and follow the onscreen instructions.
It seems like something is missing from the setup.
Aaah...Just for the heck of it, I went under Base Station > Assist Me
and told it to continue even though the dialog box said it would change the network.
It displayed a tabbed dialog box where I could configure the AirPort Express, including a tab named Music.
    Note:
The following two items are listed in Apple's on-line Help inside of Airport Utility, and on the web, yet I did not see them inside of Airport Utility when trying t oconfigure my AE.
I did not see a checkbox to check, named Enable AirTunes.
I did not see any place for entering the name and password for my speakers.
I followed all of the instructions and things looked like they were going well until I clicked Finish.
Them it said something like it could not save the settings..try again.
Well, I did, but when I brought Airport Utility back up, it kept saying that it could not detect the AE,
and when I went under the Base Station menu, all items were grayed-out, so I couldn't do anything.
Please help... the instructions need to clearer and more detailed.
    Thanx, Dale
HP dv 6500z Windows Vista New Airport Express

    Hi:
    Thanx for your reply.
After several more hours of trial & error over the weekend,
I finally have the Green Light (LED) on the Airport Express.
And it stays green, even if I unplug it from the AC outlet,
and plug it back in later. I have the green light so this
tells me that I have gotten past one hurdle.
OK...in order to get this far, I had the AE wired to the
laptop or LinkSys router via an Ethernet cable. How do
I go about making this a "wireless" connection. LinkSys
told me how to take my laptop from a hardwired connection
to wireless, but it doesn't address the issue when you have
a 3rd party device hardwired that you want to make wireless.
    Side Note:
I have not tried this yet, but I found a note on the web that
stated something like this: after getting the green light,
this guy then disconnected the Ethernet cable from the AE,
unplugged the AE from AC power for a few minutes, plugged it
back in to AC power, and voila! ... he was wirelessly on his network.
OK...let's assume that my AE is now on the wireless network.
What type of special settings do I need to make inside of iTunes
in order to get sound to the speakers.
I have my powered speakers recognized by iTunes...I can select them.
But, it appears that something may be blocking my AE from talking to
my network...I keep getting a pop-up box from Symantec saying that it
is detecting a "virus" (for lack of a better term) at the IP address
that I set my AE to. Oh, yes...that's another question...
When manually setting up the AE, I have my router network's IP address
(dotted-quad) in the list of parameter settings, but...near the top of
the list, the Airport Utility software asks for your AE's IP.
Well, what is it ? Nobody has told me ... Where do I get it from ???
Or...do I assign an arbitrary value to it based on the dotted-quad below ?
The router has an IP address of something like 192.168.1.xyz. I know what
the xyz is for the router but, what number do I use here for the AE, or
does it matter as long as it isn't being used by another network device.
    My network is static.
So, after using a number not used by my network elsewhere (that I am aware of,
and...inserting a $ (to specify hexadecimal format)in front of my encryption password, NOT the router password (they intermix the naming of these) I finally managed to get the Green Light on the AE. Note: I am using the WEP-64 bit encryption which is also refered to a "40 bit" (No..not hexadecimal..$40 = 64) which is 40-bit to which a random 24 bit is added to give you 64 bit encryption.
    To summarize;
I appear to have the AE configured via hardwire (I have the green light).
In iTunes, I can see and select my powered-speakers from the drop-down menu in the lower right corner, but i am s not yet streaming (hearing) the music.
It appears that Symantic may be knocking me off the network, or not letting the AE talk to the laptop/router...I have not yet tried this, but another nugget that I found on this site says to go to System Preferences (where?), click on the Firewalls tab, click Advanced , and uncheck "Block UDP Traffic".
Is this what may be blocking my AE talking to the laptop/router ?
Any help/feedback would be appreciated...Thank you.
I'm getting close...but no cigar (yet).

  • I used to able to access and listen to my itunes library from my ipad using the remote app but this no longer works.  I am connected but sound thru ipad.  Is this because of they want us to use itunes match

I used to able to access and listen to my itunes library on my ipad  using the remote app but this no longer works.  I am connected but sound thru ipad- just controls my library on iMac.  Is this because of they want us to use itunes match

That has nothing to do with iTunes match. The Remote app on iPad can control the computer's iTunes but not play content from iTunes on your iPad.
To play for example iTunes imusic on iPad
You need to have Home Sharing On.
Check Settings > Music > Home Sharing (key in your Apple ID & password here, must be the same on computer's iTunes)
Start iPad's Music app, tap the ... More (bottom right), tap Shared.
Choose your iTunes' library and have fun.

  • Problems with sound from external speakers after iOS 5.0.1 update

Have others experienced problems with external speakers on the Iphone 4 after iOS 5.0.1 update?  My phone no longer rings, sounds when i receive a text message, sounds alarm, etc.  Vibrate works fine and when i plug in headphones I can hear music through the headphones.  Any fixes for this?

    Hi Guys,
I have post eariler on another forum and I have the same problem, I have tried all the things listed here and nothing was perminant in fixing this painful iphone hating problem.... and failed.  You probably have the problem when you use youtube or your music external speaker that there is no volume bar and no sound.   I have had the same problem But I need to happily say that I now have the fix!!!!  This worked for me and I fixed it by myself so you don't need to go to apple or service centre or anything.
Ok I like so many of you here truly believed this was as IO5 issue as it only dropped the sound on the speakers once that IO5 update came along.  I tried a bunch of reset, reboots, home clicks, lock and unlocks, to fix this and all failed.  some worked for an hour but then failed.  hours of my life that I will never get back.   but since I have learnt this is not a IO5 problem but a hardware issue! ...  and in paticualar is has to do with your bottom connection.  Your phone is thinking it is docked all the time.
To fix the no sound problem what you need is...
    1.  a torch
    2.  a tooth brush
    3.  methalated spirits
    4. a butter knife
    Step 1.
get your torch and shine it down the bottom connection plate to see what kind of dust, sand, hair or anything you have stuck in there.   all that need to be removed!  everything!  it might look clean but still thats ok go to step 2.
    step 2.
Turn on your music app and put the speakers on!  If your phone is like mine it should not work.  you most probably don't even have the volume display to turn it on but its ok, just do it! and it should still play with no sound.   its important you try and run the speakers as this will show you that it is a hardware problem.
    step 3.
Dip your tooth brush into some methated sprits.   then at your sink tap the exess metho out of your brush as you just want the brushes to be slightly damp, not soaking wet and then scrub the bottom connetiors on your iphone.  work the brush back and forward in a way that scoops the dirt out of the phone, not just pushing it side to side.
(As you bushing you should notice the volume bar come back on or off as you scub.   This happened to me and that is how I realised I was on the right track to fixing this problem as I was doing something external that was actually controling when the volume display came on or off.   but once I cleaned it this still didn't fix the problem...)
    Step 4.
Use the back side of a butter knife (not the sharp side) to gently slide over the connectors on the iphone.  Do this gently as you are only pushing down on the tiny metal contect bars and you should notice the volume display come on again.  slide it back and forward.  Now the area of interest is about 2/3 along the connection plate to the right.   This is the area that has the infomation sent when your iphone thinks its docked.
This has worked for me and I have not had a problem since I did this 2 weeks ago.   I have since learnt that the new IOS 5 has activated a different part of the bottom conectors.  if you have been using dodgy connectors or unapproved apple cables (as I was)  any damage or hair and dirt on the terminal this is effecting it.  Try it.   just remember if you can do something external to your phone then there lies the problem.
Hope this works for your phone as it did for mine.
    Cheers
