Thunderbird 3.1 and 10.6 Server Mail Services

I am trying to connect to our Mail Server which is part of OS X 10.6 server. I just can't get it to work. What settings should I be using for a standard connection. Any help would be fantastic and greatly appreciated.

Yes we are using SSL and there in may be the reason I just don't seem to be able to get it to work. I am also trying to connect using IMAP which I don't know what the right port is as well as the right authentication method. Again any help is greatly appreciated.

At 10.5.2, we find that most of the problems with email accounts and VH sites are ... still broken.
After they are addressed (cull these forums for an indication of the problems the current code does not address), I'd like to suggest some other areas of improvement.
On a per-server, per-domain (or per-account) basis, can we set what happens to rejected mail. If a RBL or refuse item comes to the server, can we elect to choose between:
reject and return to sender
reject and discard
If the mail server supports such settings.
That would be lovely.

Albeit, not through the GUI, you can adjust the behaviour of the content-filter to your liking.
Have a look at /etc/amavisd.conf. Many settings are explained in the file.

Command to Stop and Start the SBO Mailer Service

Good day,
I have an issue on my SAP server (SAP 2007 SP01 PL10) where the SBO Mailer server is intermittently stopping. This is causing Emailed Alerts and emails from SAP to stop working.
I want to create a Scheduled Task in Windows to run a batch file which will stop then restart the SBO Mailer service.
Do you know the DOS command to stop and also start the SBO Mailer service?

We are still working on this issue. I have a feeling itu2019s the SMTP rejecting the emails

Use OS X Server Mail service as archive

Hello -
We don't use the OSX Mail service of our server in our business. Instead we rely on our ISP - and generally that works fine (especially as our server is not hosted in a secure environment).
But as a result, we regularly have to clean out our mailboxes as we hit the 2GB limit.
Would it be a good idea / sensible to use the Mail service as an archive tool? We could then make an IMAP folder per project and archive all mail for that project together in one place.
Or is there a better / more efficient way?

Mail is good for mail, but it tends to get overused. Using mail as a coordination tool is a hassle, and the usually question is how badly you will get burned by its use. Stuff gets lost in mail files and hard to find, and new folks don't have the benefit of the history, folks aren't sure what the newest versions are, folks get added onto or left off of distribution lists, and there's no change synchronization and little or no change tracking. Leave mail for messages, and particularly for assets and information that are ephemeral; for tasks it is suited for.
As for remote access, there are remote protocols for allowing that access, with the most secure being a VPN into the external firewall. With that and with the VPN tunnel connected, the remote clients appear to be local on the LAN.
There are other approaches toward this goal, including WebDAV sharing. That allows file access via port 80 into the web server. When WebDAV is enabled, Finder can connect remotely. (Presuming authentication is enabled and port 80 http or port 443 https is open through the external firewall.)
One of the more flexible approaches for these sorts of tasks a tailored purpose-dedicated front-end.
For contact management, that front-end can be something like the SugarCRM package. There are other options for contact management.
For files and such, distributed source code control systems can be useful; tools such as git or mercurial (Hg) allow distributed caching of files for offline access, and updates and conflict resolution, as well as tasks such as change tracking.
For brute-force file caches, tools such as rsync can be appropriate, but (if you go this route) you'll want to look at tracking as well as collision detection when more than one person is working on the same file.
There are front-ends for project status and bug tracking and related task management including Trac and Bugzilla, and many other choices.
For some tasks, web content management systems such as Drupal or Wordpress can be appropriate.

Azure and Unity Master Server What Service Should I Use?

This is a noob question. I never buy cloud service before. I want to know, if I want to host my own Unity Master Server (an exe file as server) what service should I use? (Virtual Server? Mobile Services? Cloud Services?)
Really glad if someone can give a little explanation what they differ from each other in the simplest and practical way.

Thunderbird constantly freezes when using google corporate mail services (spinning ball) (Mac OS X)

Howdy
I've worked through the self help guides up to this point on eliminating performance issues in thunderbird.
With google corp e-mail (imap) and many folders/messages, thunderbird literally locks up and spins to high CPU for up to a minute. This even happens when in the middle of composing an e-mail message, which is very disruptive to using thunderbird as a mail client. I've also rebuilt the global DB now a few times, but this has not helped. Are there additional things that can be done?
It would be nice if mail message editing was not delayed like this while thunderbird processes new inbound mail in the background (it would make end user not aware of whatever it is thunderbird is spinning over in the background w. IMAP)

first things first. If you have McAfee anti virus that will most likely be the cause (Recent release issue for them)
Most slow downs and script timeouts are a bad interaction with anti virus or other security software. Although a PC that is borderline in the system requirement can also exacerbate the issue.
The size of folders on disk can have an impact (any around 4Gb?)
Have you unsubscribed the all mail folder?
What version of Thunderbird. Older version have issues with reindexing all the time, with gmail

I've gotten no where. In my last attempt all sasl errors and no mech connections had stopped but mail did not appear to go anywhere. No trace. I stumbled across a post that said ssl connections from Mac OS X Yosemite are broken and just don't work.
Now the real rub. I have gotten the same thing working with Linux in 5 minutes following this post:

Then within an hour my crontab and scripts were written, debugged, and blissfully sending email.

maybe it helps or not, I solve a other performance problem which is more related to the mailbox speed but this error on client side is gone afterwards:
In Yosemite there is still also a problem with the automatic settings detection in Mail.
That means that the application try's to find a working authentication mechanism in combination with different ports and encryption.
So far so good, this feature would be okay but the application never stops to do that. So we are shortly connected but the connection becomes invalid again.
This leads to performance issues and the application becomes very slow!
If you refer your client log file maybe you can see some "Failed to start the SASL connection" issues (coming from Mail.app).
In case that you are running a OS X Server which is used by Mail you will see in /var/log/mail* /Library/Logs/mail* various login failures. In case that you have enabled the Adaptive Firewall it can be happen that your IP is blocked for 15 minutes.
Of course this must not be a issue for everyone I believe it strongly depends on your email server / provider which auth. stuff is supported or enabled.
To solve it:
1.) Open the Mail Preferences
2.) Goto "Accounts" and select your Provider/Account
3.) Klick Enhanced (the last right tab)
4.) Disable the automatic settings detection (first checkbox)
5.) In case you didn't enable "MailDrop"
This works in Mail 8.1 on Yosemite 10.10.1

Migrate server mail files

Due to mail problems - filtering etc - I am considering rebuilding my server from scratch. The problem is I have a number of users who have iOS devices and use their server mail files as data depoistories - you have very powerful mail search functions of you server databases for IMAP mail on iOS.
The question is how do I restore / rebuild the existing mail databases for each user - I think all mail is stored in /Library/server/mail/data/mail/<user directory> although I don't know how you access or work out which directory belongs to which user?
Anyone tried this or know of a way of migrating the mail databases?

I bought a new Mac mini server running MLS and restored all did a complete restore of the time machine backup of my broken SL Server. This restored everything under the MLS operating system but as you know broke a number of things - Sieve, mail authentication etc. Many of these I have fixed except for Sieve. I need some kind of Server side mail filtering for the users who only have iOS devices with no client filtering - plan was to use your Roundcube/manage sieve approach.
Secondly, I tried, using the second hard disk in the new server for now, to do a clean install and reset up the ML Server from scratch rebuilding a subset of users and then copying the mail store directories from the time machine backup of the SL Server to the new Server.   I failed to find a way to associate the mail store directories and permission for the newly set up users. The server just built new mail stores and I could not find a way to transfer or combine them with the old mail stores.
Finally I tried the 'target disk mode' route to build an SL disk on an external FireWire drive that would boot the ML Server hoping I could just rebuild the original server on the new hardware. I used a CoreDuo Mac Mini we have to do the build but have so far not been able to get the new server to boot.   It just hangs before getting to the log in screen. I have given up on this as I doubt I can ever get this stable enough with all the unsupported (by SLS) hardware in the new mini (e.g. Intel HD3000 graphics).
I have now run out of ideas on how o achieve my goal of a stable server, with my existing mail stores and users, with a server side spam filter.   Any ideas are very welcome!

Mail service setup basics

I have been searching and digging for days trying to understand this setup.
I purchased a mac mini with server software and trying to get mail services to work.
It should not be this hard! I have set up my dns for my local domain and doubled checked via terminal that my ip matches the name. I have mutiple doamins I would like to revcieve mail from on this server. All my users are the same on each domain. like, [email protected] and [email protected], ect.
In the general tab of mail services I set the following
domain name : mydomain.com
host name : mail.mydomain.com
in the advanced tab I checked include server daomain as local alias and added my other domain names like
myother.com
myother2.com
I then went to my mail client that I added the local email info,,
What should I use for the incoming mail?
Outgoing mail?
I have looked at mail services user guide, searched through tons of threads, googled everthing from smtp, dns, mail server setup, ect.
I am able however to manually set up a mail client and all works but that kinda defeats my reasoning of this server.
Is there a basic guide I can get that maybe clairifies the basic set issues?
I am sure I am not the only person having these issues?

It should be this hard. It's actually quite simple once you take the time to ensure you have a fundamental understanding of numerous key concepts. Marketing for 10.6 server aside (a separate & interesting conversation), it's no more Apple's role to educate any would-be server administrator of these fundamentals than it is for Microsoft to do same with their product manuals, or for that matter Sun (Solaris) or RedHat...

Ddns mail service

I am using a Mac mini server (Mountain Lion) and want to use it as web server and mail server with server.app.
I also have my own domain name of 'scheduler.co.kr'.
Mac mini server is connect to internet via the router's port forwarding of 80, 25...etc.
Mac mini server IP is private like 192.168.0.x.
The router's IP is dynamic not static.
So I registered to the DDNS (dynamic domain name service) provider and I can configure the records of A, CNAME, MX and etc in it.
My problem is I can not use 'Mac mini server's mail service'.
The web service is good through wordpress and MySQL.
But mail service is not.
My question is followed;
1) Should I make DNS configuration in the MAc mini server using server.app?
2) In the case of router's dynamic IP environment, can I configure a mail service of sending and receiving using Mac mini server?
If it is possible, how can I configure my mac mini server in DNS and Mail service feature?
3) Should I use mac mini server With DDNS service of outside provider?
Or can I configure all services of mac mini server.app without DDNS service?
I want to receive the reply from the experienced or Expert.

SQL Server Reporting Service 2008 R2 - The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

I got the error "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." when I call the Reporting Service Web Service.
The code is very simple:

The SQL Server is installed on a different machine (say server A) from the Web server (say server B). We are using Windows Server 2003.

iii) If the web server and sql server is using same server (i.e. not distributed)
I'm using windows authentication and impersonation. Any idea?

If I understand correctly, the issue only happens in the environment that the web server is different with the SQL Server Reporting Services server. This means the web server is a remote server of the Report Server. Windows Integrated authentication is used
in this case. When running the web page, the 401 error occurs.
If so, it is actually a double hop issue. The double-hop problem will usually only be an issue to those of you who write some sort of web-based code (a web application or web service) that uses impersonation.
To fix the issue, we can configure kerberos authentication for the web application and the SQL Server Reporting Services.

I tried to register the SPN but unfortunately it still doesn't work. I'm not sure whether I'm using the correct SPN name.
I have 3 reporting server instance on the SQL box. So the Web Service URL is like

What's the SPN I need to register?
I tried
Setspn -a http/Server:80/VirtualDirectoryDev domain\account
and

But both of them are not working :(

Thunderbird 24.0 and mail server problem (STARTTLS mode)

I have thunderbid 24.0 problem with Apple XServer 10.6 in STARTTLS mode? Thunderbird 17.0 working fine with mail server without any problem.
In TB 24, when you use STARTTLS to make security connection to mail server. And you send the message, you getting error messages that you failed to sent? In TB 17, no error and able to sent message without any problem.
Also note: that Thunderbird 24 for Windows ALSO problem as well. same problem as above.
I wonder if mail server need update or change setting to be working with Thunderbird 24.0?

When I sent the message and got error message: Send Message Error. Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent using SMTP server mail.****.*** for an unknown reason. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact your network administrator.

You see a remote view of folders on the server.
So the folders in Thunderbird and the folders you see via webmail using a browser are one in the same.
When you delete in Thunderbird or via webmail you are deleting off the server.

well turn it off and see if that makes a change. After all IDLE is a server technology. If Google supports it and Yahoo does not then configuring Thunderbird the same means nothing. (I have no idea if Yahoo support it or not)

How do you store "sent" mail locally and on the server?

Hello. This is a slightly lengthy...but hopefully someone can help!
I am using the Mail program in Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4.3) with an IMAP account. I am wondering how you set up the preferences so that the e-mails that you send (outgoing) are stored locally on my computer and also on the server (so that I can .
So far I have tried checking and unchecking the option to 'store mail on the server' (in the 'Mailbox Behavior' window of the Preference Box). When I uncheck the box, the sent mail is stored ONLY locally on my computer.
When I check the box so that the mail is stored on the server, I cannot view any copies of the sent mail on my computer, nor can I view the sent mail through my other school account (same account b/c it's IMAP).
My IMAP account is setup with my school, so I have a folder called 'Sent' that I have programmed so that copies of my sent mail are stored there (viewable locally on any computer that I log-in to). I formerly user Thunderbird (with Mozilla) and it allowed me to save sent mail into that same folder, but I am unable to do so with Mail in the Tiger program.
I hope this is understandable...anyone able to shed some light on this issue? Thanks!

mail.app to automatically blind copy to yourself any
messages you originate (and then use a rule to
automatically file these messages in a "sent" folder
of your choice).
A method to do setup this default bcc is on
MacOSXhints.com, in this article: Permanently add Reply To headers in
Mail.app. It references this command line:
