Thunderbird can download and send mail with Cox POP Mail, Mail cannot?

I have Thunderbird and Mail installed.
I can download and send mail with Thunderbird.
I can't even set-up an account with Mail because it cannot find the POP Mail server.
I have Firewall on with ports 25, 110 and 587 open.
This really seems strange that I can use Thunderbird to set up and use POP Mail access to Cox, but not Mail.
My servers are:
pop.central.cox.net
smtp.central.cox.net
I've followed the steps on Cox's support web site, no success.
I've already called Cox, they're clueless.
Thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Well since Tbird works, we can rule out lots of things.
Mail cannot find the POP server
You are using the Welcome to Mail assistant to do this, and when you type in your incoming mail server info it spins the gear a bit, gives an error, and says that if you continue Mail may not work -- yes? What does the error say specifically?
No disrespect at all, but the most likely problem is a typo somewhere / mis-specified username. Please go 'round once more.

1) Google: ADF Faces file upload
2) Google: ADF Faces image download
3) Google: ADF send mail
I get all the relevant hits (documentation and blog entries) by using these 3 queries in Google.
If you mean "Web Service" by "Service" then better - just Google for Web Service and image handling to find information on this. You don't use ADF to build Web Services, which is why you need to express your search criteria different

Can't send e-mails via Mail with a Gmail e-mail address using Sky internet

Can anyone help? My brother has an iBook G4 Mac OS X 4.1 and is trying to send e-mails via Mail with a Googlemail e-mail account. He is using Sky for his broadband. I assume it has something to do with his outgoing smtp e-mail Preferences in Mail, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. He can receive e-mails OK, its just that when he tries to send he gets the 'server can't send error'. Any ideas?

Here's my gMail IMAP SMTP settings...

Authentication: Password
SSL
Sky may require another port to pass through...
IMAP is port 143
IMAP-SSL is port 993
POP is port 110
POP-SSL is port 995
SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users.

We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support.
If you don't have access to your rescue email account, or you don't have one on your iTunes account, then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

When they've been reset you can then use the steps half-way down this page to add/change a rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312

I understood from your help file that synchronization is compatible only with IMAP mail provider

from yahoo help I managed to find configuration for IMAP , but could not apply them on TB , as TB have already Yahoo as POP in the configuration list

You cannot convert an existing account, but you can set up your Yahoo account as IMAP in parallel to the existing POP account. See

I understand that you are getting a 404 message when you access a website from a Mac, not a PC.
First check the cache for the site:
Reload the webpage while bypassing the cache using '''one''' of the following steps:
*Hold down the ''Shift'' key and click the ''Reload'' button with a left click.
OR
*Press ''Command'' + ''Shift'' + ''R'' (Mac)
Second try to [[Delete cookies to remove the information websites have stored on your computer]]
Let us know if this solves the issues you are having.

Why can't I send emails through Mac OS X Mail when I'm using another internet connection (besides my main home connection)?

This is likely either because when at home you are using the SMTP provided by your ISP, and it is not separately Authenticated and thus blocked by the host ISP at the other venues, or you are using a third party SMTP successfully on Port 25 at home, but in the other venues, they are blocking third party SMTP on Port 25.
If the SMTP of your ISP, check to see if they have a version that can be authenticated for travel use -- many do.
If using another SMTP at home on Port 25, change to Port 587 which should work either at home or away.
More info, please, if this does not solve, including who your ISP is?

No, you must install Windows to run Windows software. You do not need to use Boot Camp (yes, it's free because it comes with OS X.)
Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.

VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. You can change the primary email address on an account by logging into it via the 'manage your apple id' button on http://appleid.apple.com, or via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes, or by tapping on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store on your phone and logging into it.
You won't be able to change it to an email address that is being used an alternate or rescue email address on the account (they can be viewed/changed/removed via http://appleid.apple.com), nor to one that is currently being used as the primary email address on an account

Your Apple ID is tied to the US store. Log out of the store, then trying logging back in.
