Thunderbird - Change default email 'save as' extension

Saving an email as '.txt' allows the content to be checked without the risk of triggering a 'nasty'. The default 'Save as' uses '.eml' but it would be handy to allow the default to be changed to '.txt' as I've never yethad cause to save an email as '.eml'.

I don't know of any way to change the default to txt, but another possibility is to install [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/ ImportExportTools] and choose the text format from the message right-click menu.

Thunderbird changes outgoing email address

Composing a new email:
In the "To" field I start to type an address. Thunderbird provides a drop-down of matches from my address book. I select one of the addresses. Thunderbird puts it into the "To" field. At this point, my cursor is still in the "To" field. Then I hit Enter to move to the next field, & Thunderbird changes the email address to a different address (a different address from my address book).
If I add a space after the email address before pressing Enter, Thunderbird leaves the email address as is.
Behavior is kind of random - address is not replaced all the time. Also, for a while Thunderbird will make one change - like always changing address X to address Y, then it will switch to another change - always replacing address Z with address W.
The replacement address is always one that is in the address book.
Also, Thunderbird randomly colors some outgoing email addresses as red, even though they are in my address book.

The easiest method is to use the contacts sidebar as described in option 2.
But contacts do need to be in an Address Book.
However, if your issue is to reveal more TO fields, then you can drag the divider downwards. See image below.
If you write using Plain Text , there will be no Formatting Bar. If you use HTML formatting, then there will be a Formatting Bar.
In the image below there is a Formatting Bar between 'Subject' and the composing area. In the image below, I've indicated this with a red line.
Use mouse and hover over this line, the mouse should chnage to a double headed arrow. Left click and hold down to grab the line. Then move mouse downwards to move the line. It will reveal more TO fields.

Select a file of that type, choose Get Info from the File menu, change the Open With setting, and then the default for that file type.

Send from Finder with Thunderbird as default email

Greetings,
Finder will not open Thunderbird (default email client in System Preferences) to send documents.
Apple Mail crashes repeatedly, therefore, I resort to Thunderbird (works without crashing).
Please instruct me on how to set Thunderbird (already default email client) so that I may send email attachments within Finder. Finder/Share shows Thunderbird's icon, when clicking on the icon, I hear that irritating bird chocking, and Thunderbird does not reply.

Thanks for this. It works well for creating a new email when one file is selected as an attachment. As the bug thread pointed out, it opens up a separate message for each file in a multi-select. Now that I know about Automator, I will see if I can implement something similar for multi-selects.
Interestingly, something like this has to be done for MS Outlook as well. Frustrating that integration with well-known third-party software isn't built into the OS.

"mail to" does not appear in apps list, so cant change default email to yahoo.

Need to change default email for iCal and Discussions

I have a dual problem tonight. my first problem is trying to reset my default email address in iCal to my new email address since we changed ISP. I have read that I need to change the default in MAIL, but everything there is with my new email address (@Telus). My old email was (@Shaw). When I set up a meeting on iCal and send it out to others, the reply email is @shaw and I can't seem to find how to change it to @telus. No one can reply with confirmation since it is going to a dead letter box.
However, in trying to find something here on the discussions I noticed that my apple account to log into discussions still has my @shaw address, but for the life of me I can not find the account settings that will let me change my email on my user name/profile. I won't get a notice of a solution of either of these questions through the automatic reply as it will go to dead email land. I don't want to have to close this user name and my history and start all over again. Yet the edit profile only lets me reset my biography information, not my email account.

On Mac OS X, 10.7.2: After several days of trying all the suggestions, I went to the Apple store. It took 2 Geniuses two hours to figure out that invitiations were being sent from the email that I have set as primary with Apple. It didn't matter that the account wasn't even listed on My Card in Address book nor was it even anywhere in mail preferences. What mattered was that I had that email as primary. So, I went to

and changed the Primary Email address. Now all my invites come from that address.
Supposedly iTunes and everything else will come along...

Changing default email account in iPhone mail

Hello,
I have initially setup my Mail with my "primary" .mac email address, but the problem is that any email I reply to on my iPhone uses that email account & alias, even if the email was sent to another email alias provided my my .mac account. This does not happen on the Mac version of Mail.
How can I either have the iPhone version of Mail use the same email alias for sent messages depending on which alias the incoming mail was sent to?
I tried changing the default email alias in Mail Settings but did not get a successful authentification. But if I can change the default email alias for sent messages, that would be OK too.

I've had this question for a while myself.
I do have my iPhone IMAP'd to a gmail account. In that gmail account I have set up various address that I send from, and I have setup Gmail to reply to the address an email was sent to. From within Gmail, I can set any of my addresses in the FROM field when I reply or compose an email. I am using Gmail as a funnel to catch all mail I get from various accounts, and I wish to use this Gmail funnel as my only account to check on my iPhone.
On my Mac Mail on my desktop, I can accomplish what I want by having multiple accounts setup but then setting them as OFFLINE. This prevents Mac Mail from retrieving duplicate messages from multiple accounts, but it allows me to change the address in the FROM field of any message when I reply or compose.
On my iPhone, the only way to change the address in my FROM field is to have an active account online on the phone. Once I turn an account OFF, that address is no longer available in the FROM field. And the mail that comes in from Gmail does not automatically set the FROM to be the same as the address the mail was sent to, despite having that setup at Gmail.
Is there any way to have the iPhone do what Mac Mail does, allowing me to set an address in the FROM field without having to have that address set up as an active account on the phone?
Any workaround for this?

Cannot change default email when using MDM

I use an MDM (AirWatch) to setup Exchange ActivSync email for all my users. It sets up a profile with the user's email. If they have other personal email addresses on the phone, they cannot change the default email to Exchange email that I setup through the MDM. It is not an option in the Settings-Mail/Contacts/Calendars-Default Account field.
The option to change the default account for the default Calendar is there, but not for email.
When I email by clicking on an email address in a website it opens Mail, but the Exchange email is not option.
If I manually setup the Exchange email I can select it as default.
If there are no other personal emails setup the Exchange that is setup from the MDM it will mail from that account.
Any thoughts?

I figured out the issue. The MDM (AirWatch) has a feature of the ActivSync setup called "Prevent use from third party apps"
This stops the Exchange ActivSync email account from being able to be set as the default account Settings-Mail/Contacts/Calendars-Default Account field.
I do not know why they think that the Safari browser built into the phone as a "third party app" but atleast we are working.

Change default application for mp3 extensions

Hello! Thank you in advance to any helpers. This is what I think is wrong:
I recently had some problems with safari, so I downloaded Firefox. In doing that, I think I changed my defaults for certain extensions, namely mp3.
So, all email mp3 attachments are opening in another webpage, instead of iTunes (which was the previous default). I do not have any start up disks as this is a hand-me-down laptop and I cannot figure out how to change the default back.
I tried dragging the file to the desktop, from the email, and it still showed up as a webpage. So I did the whole "get info" and "open using" and "change all" but then the system wanted to change ALL of my itunes files to the .mp3. This was because I had to rename the file (which I know doesn't do much) Any ideas?

well, I can't click on the file because it is in an email message and if I click, it opens to the internet page with a QuickTime audio player. I've checked all my quicktime stuff, too. I don't think that's it. All the songs in itunes library are ".m4a" The only way I was able to even get to the "open with" and etc. was to drag the .mp3 file onto the desktop and it wasn't even an mp3 file at that point, it was a weblink. I was able to open in in iTunes but it's not an audio file. Itunes put it in my podcast section with an exclamation point next to it.

Change default email text when submitting a form

How do I amend the standard, default text that shows up after a user clicks the submit button of a form?
Next to the XML-attachement, this is the standard text that currently shows up:
"The attached file contains data that was entered into a form. It is not the form itself.

first please remove the submit by email botton in your form.
and place new botton in your form and set the property for the button type as submit.
and then once you click that submit button on your form.
it will initiate your workflow.

Changing default email program for Control Click file to use Outlook

Hi,
We have an interesting issue when when you Control click a file and select "New email with Attachment" it always brings up Mail, I want to change this to Outlook (latest office for Mac). I have checked everywhere for this setting and made sure Outlook is set as the default mail program everywhere.
Can someone point me in the right direction and this would be a quick win for out customer.

"New Email with Attachment" is a Service provided by Mail.app. To use Outlook, you would need an Outlook service. If Microsoft doesn't provide one, it might be possible to make your own using Automator. If you search, somebody might have already done that.

Stop firefox changing default program of .pdf extension on install

i need to install firefox on a terminal server, but when I have installed version 31.00 on client machines it always changes the .pdf file extension from Adobe Reader to Firefox's version. I need to be able to install this without fear of having to change the default file association for each user..
can anyone assist in this please?

this change was introduced through https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452254 but should only apply when no other program was set as pdf viewer during the time of the firefox installation. (also see comment 38, it apparently doesn't happen during a regular update or when firefox isn't set as default browser in the installer). if it is really overwriting the adobe programs in your environment i'd recommend filing a new bug at bugzilla.mozilla.org with more details about your system...

CS-MARS. Change default email subject "System Scheduler"

We have a CS-MARS 100 with the last 4.2.1 and I've configured several reports to be sending by email. I'd like to change the default subject that it's shown as "System Scheduler (scheduler)" in the email client (Outlook, p.e.) and if it's possible the account used for sending that mails: [email protected]
We can change the domain name but not the account name or email subject.
Does anybody know how to do that?

10.10.2 changes default email account

Since the 10.10.2 upgrade mail has changed the account it selects for default when I send a message. It seems to have defaulted to the order in the system preferences internet account panel. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to drag an account to the top, and I am a little reluctant to delete and read accounts in hope that the readied accounts will go to the bottom of the list.
