Thunderbird Frozen & Not Responding

I installed Thunderbird today on a new laptop.
I set up one email account with no problem, however, I have encountered problems after setting up a second email account. Upon setting it up, it proceeded to download thousands of emails going all the way back to 2011 from the server. As they were loading, I was deleting them and got to a point where most were deleted.
However, Thunderbird has now frozen.
When I open it, nothing happens, the cursor timer just rotates, "Not Responding" appears at the top and when I try clicking anywhere, the screen goes white. To close the programme I use Task Manager and try re-opening but with same result. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing and opening in safe mode, but nothing seems to work.
Getting to point of giving up and using a different mail client unless anyone has any suggestions?
Thanks

you are aware you have just deleted all the mails form the server don't you?

• Spinning circle * Thunderbird is not responding when I try to write or access emails. I had attempted to delete a bunch of old txt messages in seldom used Gmail

I saw I had almost 30,000 txt messages on a Gmail account that I had created a gmail account for on Thunderbird. I didn't realize that they were going here from Gmail. I highlighted all of them and attempted to delete them. The spinning circle finally went away and all of them were gone. But when I tried to do anything else on Thunderbird with my regular email accounts (Comcast & Hotmail), I would get a spinning circle and Thunderbird is not responding. I had to use Ctrl Alt Del and then reopen. I tried compacting but this morning when I tried to write an email from one of my Comcast emails in Thunderbird, again I got the spinning circle and Thunderbird is not responding. In order to do anything, I have to close the program by hitting Crrl Alt Del and try again.
My Trash Local folders says 8300.
This morning, when I tried accessing Thunderbird at the bottom of the taskbar it said, "downloading....of 17,000 to All Mail. Had no clue what that meant. I let it continue until all were and thought my issue would be resolved. But no. :(
Something obviously got corrupted in the program. What do I need to do to fix this?
Thank you.

When I try to go the Gmail address. it has the spinning circle and says, "opening folder and at the top Thunderbird is Not Responding"

• For several weeks, Thunderbird downloads the same emails more than once, back to back. Also when I try to delete messages, "Thunderbird does not respond."

The entire screen whites out when I try to delete or open another email. The margin above the File button shows that "Thunderbird is not responding." Finally, a new window appears in the middle of the screen asking me if I want to close Thunderbird. I am not sure if this problem started when I renewed my McAfee Total Protection program approx. 2 months ago. I also have over 1000 messages saved in both received emails and sent emails. I would like to just highlight a full page of them and delete all messages at once, but this is not possible.
Thank you for your time.

• I was re-naming a folder with many sub folders suddenly Thunderbird did not respond and the folder and sub folders I was re-naming disappeared.

I was re-naming a folder with many sub folders attached, suddenly, Thunderbird did not respond and the folder I was re-naming disappeared along with all the sub folders attached to it. How can I get them back? I am not a computer savvy person. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Turned out that my anti-virus was doing a scheduled scan and had found a virus in an email attachment in my deleted items folder, thus nothing being able to do during the scan.

• I can receive emails, but when i try to open the email it tells my thunderbird is not responding

I can send emails. I cannot get into any local folders. I have gone into my server and had a tech support person check and all is correct there. If it does finally open one I cannot delete it as it will not respond. I have scanned with malwarebyte and McAfee, no help.

McAfee is the problem.

• Upgraded Thunderbird/Lightning to latest - Thunderbird does not respond and appears to hang.

I believe this has to do with the calendar that is currently enabled in Thunderbird using Lightning.
Unfortunately, uninstalling/reinstalling lightning, Thunderbird simply hangs when it restards and is "Not responding". Disabling all Add-ons enables you to check email. Is there a way to disable the current calendar, reinstall Lightning and set-up a new calendar? I suspect the current calendar is google based.

Hey Tony,
It appears it was the Airport settings and the router. Here is what I did.
I opened the ports you listed on the Linksys router using port range forwarding. I did not add the jabber ports because I'm not using Jabber and Linksys apparently allows only 10 ports (or port ranges) to be forwarded. One of them is forwarded to my apache server which I did not want to change.
I forwarded the ports to 198.168.1.1
The Apache server is forwarded to 198.168.100
I unticked the iChat I added in the sharing/firewall. The original iChat/Bonjour setting is still ticked on.
I finally found the UPnP setting on the Linksys router under Administration/Management and enabled it. What I had enabled (and then disabled) earlier was the UPnP forwarding under Applications&Gaming/UPnP Forwarding.
While looking at the Linksys settings under "setup" I saw that the the local DHCP server is set to start addresses at 198.168.1.100 So I tried setting the ports to forward to that address instead of 198.168.1.1 No luck. So I set them back to 198.168.1.1
Finally I went into Airport and turned off the port forwarding as suggested by Ralph's note that you attached. That solved things.
So I'm not sure if it was the last thing I did or a combination of all. Thank you for your help.

• HT1414 my screen is frozen, not responding.help.

Just got a new ipad two weeks ago, and the screen is frozen and not responding to touch, what can I do ?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

• Thunderbird constantly not responding and restarting

I use Chrome and Avast on my work computer. Thunderbird constantly freezes, then I get a "Not Responding" status, then it restarts and everything is fine. Until 3 emails later/I try to move a message into a folder/I click on another folder/etc/etc, then it starts all over again.
Help!

Hello,
This seems like a conflict with other system software or an installation problem.
To diagnose such conflict problems with Thunderbird, you can try one of the following:
*Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
*Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.
If the above doesn't help you can perform a ''Clean Reinstall''. This means you remove Thunderbird's Program Files then reinstall Thunderbird. Please follow these steps:
#[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb?esab=a&s=TB+profile&r=0&as=s#w_backing-up-a-profile Backup your current Thunderbird profile]
#Download the latest version of Thunderbird from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download is complete, close all Thunderbird windows (Click Exit/Quit from the menu button on the right).
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Thunderbird:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to open Thunderbird after clicking the Finish button.
#At this point you can [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb?esab=a&s=TB+profile&r=0&as=s#w_restoring-a-profile-backup restore your backup] or setup Thunderbird accordingly
WARNING: Do not run Thunderbird's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Thunderbird data, including but not limited to, extensions, emails, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!
Please report back to see if this helped you!
Thank you.

"What exactly is "anti-virus s/w"?"
Your anti-virus software, i.e. Bit Defender in your case.

• Frozen, not responding, frozen charging symbol when plugged in?

My iPod Mini wont turn on, wont respond to any buttons, and when I plug it into my computer the charging symbol shows up but doesn't move and my computer wont reconize it.
I've tried the 5 "r"s with no luck, along with a few other things. What can I do.
thanks in advance.

Hi Ansata,
You could try this, and see if it makes any affect on your iPod:
1 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
2 - Now begin to rapidly toggle the "Hold" switch back and forth while your iPod is connected.
3 - After you've done that for a little while (for perhaps 15-20 seconds), eject the iPod if needed, then disconnect it from your computer.
Also, try forcing your iPod into disk mode. For instructions on how to do that, see this article:
Putting iPod into disk mode
With the iPod in disk mode, try connecting it to your comptuer for a restore.
Any success with either of those things?

• Ipad 2 frozen not responding to anything locked out can not even turn off all because i down loaded iso 8 thanks apple love you to and a merry christmas to you to anybody help please

help

First thing to do is reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.
Then see what happens as the device restarts. You said you updated to iOS 8? What version of iOS 8 do you presently have on your iPad? iOS 8.1.1 is now the latest version of the iOS. Many users have reported improved performance on an iPad 2. If your iPad does not have iOS 8.1.1 I suggest you update your iPad.

• My Thunderbird email is not responding. I have been unable to open it.

I tried rebooting my PC several times, but the result is the same. None of my mailboxes or address book can be utilized. The page is blank and says that Thunderbird is not responding. How can I get this to work again? All of my other programs are working correctly so it must be a problem with Thunderbird only.

Worse yet, mine were installed from DVD and it won't let me upgrade because it claimes it's tied to another account. So, like you, I can't buy or upgrade my iPhoto leaving me dead in the water because I have mistakenly upgraded Aperture so my library is now incompatible!
I see reports that Apple has corrected this issue for some, but it's not for us.
