Thunderbird gets wrong DNS address

Thunderbird has just begun using an old server address when downloading emails, not my current server address. I have been using the new host with the same name for years.
I can connect using Firefox webmail,
I can connect using Thunderbird on another computer on my home network.
Ping returns the correct DNS address
Here is a log snippet

Note that virtus.fuber.org is the wrong address and is now not used anywhere in my system. Correct addresses are the macomputer domain names.
This happened overnight - working last Wednesday night broken last Thursday night

We're new to supporting Thunderbird here, so apologies for not knowing the program well.
I don't think this is a DNS problem, since the host name is completely different. Usually a DNS problem would be getting the wrong IP address for a host.
If you do not have any accounts on the old server set up for send/receive, then there's no reason for Thunderbird to be connecting.
I have a guess, based on experience with Microsoft email clients. If you open an old message that you have not read before (or move it out of your Inbox without reading it), and it is set to send a Read Receipt, this can trigger attempts to send the receipt out using the connection on which it was received.
If you have Thunderbird set to never send a read receipt, or to prompt you, then this probably isn't the issue. You could check your receipt setting here:

  • DHCPv6 gives wrong DNS address

DHCPv6 in the Time Capsule gives me wrong DNS address (same as GW). I can not figure out how to solve this problem. I am using the latest version 7.6.1.
    First relevant screen (IPv6 page):
I configured everything statically. There is no problem in routing. I can ping everywhere. But there is problem in DNS.
    Second relevant screen (TCP/IP page):
IPv4 is configured statically too. Time Capsule is giving IPv4 DNS 192.168.0.2 by DHCP correctly, but the IPv6 DNS is ignored.
    Thirth relevant screen (Windows box):
This machine works as a Domain Controller and DNS so I need the DNS requests to end here. At IPv4 no problem. At IPv6 Time Capsule`s DHCPv6 is giving incorrect DNS address. It shoud give the one from line "IPv6 DNS Server(s)". Instead of it it gives the one from line "LAN IPv6 Address".
Because of this I have to shut the whole IPv6 down otherwise clients report that they can not resolve.
    Thanks for any idea.

  • EA6900 Bridge mode setup - not getting proper DNS addresse

I have an EA6900 that I am trying to use just as an access point (have an existing sonicwall as my internet connection / router device)
Here are the steps I have completed
I have logged in to the modem, and created a modem password - can log into modem wirelessly with modem password
I went into the connectivity settings and selec ted bridge mode - with auto IPv4 settings
I get the right IP address segment on my laptop, but the DNS addresses are not from my network (not even the settings from my sonicwall)
I then set the IPv4 settings manually, and enterred a static IPv4 address, as well as the gateway (as my sonicwall), and the DNS addresses of 2 of my servers as well as an external DNS server address
When I connect to the EA6900 with a laptop, I still do not get the DNS addresses I have enterred in the fields on the EA6900 connectivity setup screen
I even tried to enter my server as a gateway - not the sonicwall, and that does not work either (laptop gets the same DNS server addresses)
    Any way to do this?
Briudge mode, Get DHCP from my server (works), get DNS server addresses as are enterred in connectivity settings (not working)

"I have logged in to the modem, and created a modem password - can log into modem wirelessly with modem password" Modem? or do you mean the Router? Modem and router are two different things.
That DNS are you seeing on the devices?

  • Multiple Mac Mail Users Getting Wrong Return Addresses

    Hello,
Having an odd problem with Mac Mail. We just switched to Gmail and it's been working fine for about two weeks until this. I have a computer with 4 users using Mac Mail. It's been that way for about 4 years now. What happens is this...
When one of the users sends out an email, somewhere along the line the return address is getting changed to another user of that computer. So for example: Joe Brown ([email protected]) is what his email address SHOULD look like in the return address. But for some reason it is this: Joe Brown ([email protected]) Whenever someone replies to Joe's email, it gets sent to Steve's mailbox instead due to the wrong email address.
    Things I've tried.
    1. Rebuilt the mailboxes
    2. Deleted all the accounts and started over
    3. Repaired Permissions
    4. Made sure there's enough space on the computer (In the past, odd problems have crept up because there wasn't enough disk space.
At first it seems to be fixed but eventually it all starts over again...
    HEEEEELP!!
    Thank you - Randy

    Randy,
Is it always the same user in the return address ?
And can we assume that whatever email address is involved it ends up with a return address at gmail.com or googlemail.com (or other GMail variant) ?
could be the smtp login used for all the mail has been set to an address on gmail. I don't use OSX Mail, but I use this feature in Entourage, I can send mail from any of my email addresses - some by different ISPs who would normally require me to dial in to their network to send mail, Gmail allows me to use their SMTP server to send mail from my other ISP mail account.
A consequence of this is that any replies come back to my gmail (googlemail.com in my case) account.
This doesn't happen by default, I needed to set some preferences on gmail, key a few passwords, etc. Can't check your gmail settings, but start by checking the SMTP server, and login, used for each user sending mail.

  • Updating apps and getting wrong email address

I recently purchased a new iPhone 5S.  On three occasions, the app store has indicated that I have apps to update.  When I click to update, it asks me for a my password but shows the wrong email address.  All three times it is the same address.  This address is not an address that has ever been related to me or anyone in my family.  There is not a problem with any other app updates and this is not happening with my new iPad. I am somewhat worried that I have been hacked already with owning this phone for only 3 weeks.  If you can't help me with this please give me some advice on how to get tech support from Apple because going through their system did not seem to work for me.

Thanks.  I think this was the second time I had the problem with the one app.  I had some problems (but different) with the other app on my old phone.  I am a little leary that this problem is resolved because with deleting the apps, it is just deleting them from the phone not from the cloud so when I loaded them on the phone I am thinking that I am just loading the same messed up app again.  Both apps that have given me this trouble are very commonly used non-Apple apps.  Anyway, I will come back again if I have problems with this again.

  • IPhone connects to network but do not get router,DNS address

I can connect to wireless networks no problem, however DHCP does not work properly at all. I get a an IP address and netmask address but this does not correspond to computers already on the network and I cannot connect to the internet.
i do not receive any DNS or router address on any network (checked a friends iPhone and they have the same problem).
Only if I go to static and manually enter a correct ip address, netmask, router and DNS can i actually surf the web!
I cant see any settings to tweak or change to fix this. anyone else experiencing this or know of a fix?

Works for us using pptp-vpn by propagation the nameserver through radius.

  • IPod Touch Not Receiving DNS Address

For the past week or so, my iPod Touch has not been receiving a DNS address from the wireless router in my workplace. The router is a Netgear RangeMax WPN824, currently using WPA-PSK encryption. The iPod indicates that it successfully connects to the router, but it does not have any internet connectivity in Safari, Mail, or any other internet-required apps, and when I check on the wireless connection, it does not have a DNS address assigned.
I have no trouble connecting to the wireless network using my laptop, and the IP configuration on my laptop indicates that the laptop gets a DNS address of 10.0.0.1. I've tried manually entering that address, as well as an OpenDNS address, into the wireless settings on the iPod, with no success.
My iPod Touch is running the 2.0.2 firmware, but one of my friends who uses the 1.1.x firmware is also unable to get any connectivity. Any suggestions, anyone?

Same here! All the other computers (MacBook, Gateway Vista desktop, husband's Toshiba XP laptop and my old Mac notebooks) on my wi-fi network are connecting just fine (using a Time Capsule as my router), but my iPod Touch either can't see my network or if it does, rejects my password (even though I enter it exactly the same way as on my other machines that do connect successfully). I went to Settings and there is no DHCP address or DNS server info; and numerous resets of the Touch's network settings were no help. I haven't called AppleCare (they're never open when I have the time) and am afraid they will tell me to update the TimeCapsule's firmware or AirPort Utility--which I did last week and promptly killed my network till I reverted to the previous versions.
I have all these fun killer apps but can't get online except with a computer. (Last resort is to see if I can get on to a wi-fi hotspot). I just paid ten bucks and killed 3 hours to break my iPod Touch. Is this an attempt by Apple to get us to buy yet another device or even an iPhone (which I DON'T want because my phone service is expensive enough as it is).

  • HT5622 I changed my Apple password and I get the information at the wrong email address.  The correct email shows in my Apple account.  Why is the mail going to the wrong email? How do I fix it?

Okay so I associate the e-mail address as the apple ID and that seems to be a wrong assumption.  I did go to my Apple ID and changes the e-mail address and the password but for the same and only Apple account I have ...
That is good.  In that case, your one and only account has not changed, just the login credentials you use for it.  All your previous purchases will remain associated with that account, and the new login.
In essence, an AppleID is an email, but it has two parts.  One is the login email address and password everyone traditionally thinks of as an AppleID.  But that in turn is linked to an account with Apple.  As long as you use the manage Apple ID portal to just change the email address and/or password for your exisiting AppleID, then the internal account tracks along with those changes as well.
However, on your iOS devices, you will need to log out and then log back in with the new login credentials:
settings -> iTunes & App Stores - tap your AppleID, and choose log out.  Then log back in with the new email address and new password.

  • My 4S died and I was given a new one.  Now I can't get it to sync with my old info. I think I put the wrong email address for my apple ID, how can I change it?

My 4S died this week and I was told it could not be repaired, so I was issued a new one.  During set up I could not remember my password, so set up a new one.  I think I used the wrong email address, not sure.  At any rate, now my phone and pad don't sync.  How can I get this corrected?  Thanks!

It looks like your printer isn't on the list of air print enabled printers. It'll still work, you just need to do some tweaking.
You can see if samsung has any apps to enable printing.
    or
You can look into a third party app like Print n Share or Print Central.
Then you can print from your iPad.

  • I had to do a re-install of Thunderbird after a crash. How do I get my old address book into my new one?

I had to do a re-install of Thunderbird after a crash. How do I get my old address book into my new one? There are only a few of the contacts I had, so there must be a location where the rest are, but not sure where to look. And once I find them (with your help), how do I get them into the address book?

If you copy abook.mab or history.mab into a profile folder, they will show up as Personal Address Book and Collected Addresses. But if the mab files have names other than abook or history, they can only be imported to TB with the use of [https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html MoreFunctionsForAddressBook].

    I'm very glad that helped!
It's good you looked in the Manual first. Certainly not everyone does that.
With Apple products, I've found that not everything is completely documented, but sometimes if you try something that seems like it should work, it actually does work.
That's how I personally learned about this feature.

  • HH5 issuing wrong IP and DNS address

My Win7 desktop pc is connected via ethernet to a HH5 and worked until this morning when it wouldn't connect to the internet. Various restarts of pc and HH didn't work so I checked the properties of the pc network. It stated that the IP address was valid (192.168.1.65) but the DNS was 192.168.0.254 instead of 192.168.1.254. After I changed it it worked OK so I manually set it to the DNS values in the HH5 setup of 62.6.40.162.
All is working on my pc but now my win7 laptop is having the same problem when connected wirelessly to the HH. Also my Brother wireless printer wouldn't connect so I restarted it's network wizard which seemed to work until I checked the IP address and it's 192.168.0.104 so can't be seen by other devices.
However, assorted iPads and iPhones all seem to connect and get the correct IP and DNS addresses OK giving good internet access.
This only started this morning and as far as I know nothing has changed.
    What is going on ?
Oh and I have already tried a factory reset of the HH5 by sticking a pin in the reset hole.

Try disabling IPv6 on the Windows machines.
This suggestion by forum member  gg30340, should fix the problem.
    Select Start
In the Start Search field type ncpa.cpl and press the Enter key on your keyboard.
In the new window, right-click on your Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.
In the This connection uses the following items section, remove the tick beside (i.e. disable) Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and then press OK.
Left click on Internet Protocol IPV4, click on properties. Check the options to obtain IP address and DNS Server address automatically.

  • I have read all these - no info. Catch22 - to get an email address you have to already have an email address. Mine is POP3 and won't transfer to Thunderbird

I have bought a shiny new desktop PC with Windows 8.1. It does not permit POP3 email providers. My current email provider does not support IMAP (it is a freeserve.co.uk address from orange.co.uk also known as EE). I have had my email address for 16 years and would like to keep it if possible but if it has to go then so be it.
Thunderbird is recommended as a provider that enables POP3 email accounts to be set up (imported is I think the phrase but I try to avoid jargon). I followed the instructions carefully, making and correcting mistakes. I was told I had set up the POP3 account in Thunderbird retaining my old address. Yes I could send messages but could not receive. I deleted that account after a few days.
So I thought I'd set up a brand new email address in Thunderbird but it seems that I can only do this if I use another email address that I might already have (such as gmail, yahoo, or live.com). I don't want to use these corporate giants. Enough of my private life goes their way already without them reading my friends/family/business correspondence. And anyway if I had (say) a gmail account why would I want or need to run it through Thunderbird. It'd work OK on its own wouldn't it?
QUESTION: is it possible to start from scratch with a new email address as if this was my very first time on the internet? If so, how? And where?
    Thanks for any advice.

First of all you need to create an account with an email provider of your choice. Typically you'd do that via the provider's web site. Whatever provider you choose, you don't have to have another email address for that.
I don't see any reason why you shouldn't continue to use your existing freeserve.co.uk address. Since you apparently deleted the account in Thunderbird, you'd need to set it up once again.
I can't tell why this didn't work initially, most likely one of your settings wasn't correct.
Follow these instructions when setting up a new account in Thunderbird.
