Thunderbird incompatible with centurytel outgoing mail

Centurytel is "upgrading" their mail servers, and a recent upgrade is causing a very odd problem: Thunderbird can now send outgoing mails using my Centurytel account to some domains and not others. I.e. sent mails to a godaddy hosted email address is bounced with the error:
----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<[email protected]>
(reason: 554-p3pismtp01-058.prod.phx3.secureserver.net)
----- Transcript of session follows -----

but some sent emails are sent successfully to other domains, such as the att.net domain.
The same Thunderbird client can still send outgoing mail to ANY domain using both a GoDaddy-hosted email account and an AT&T hosted email account.
I just spent over an hour with third level Centurytel techs and since this problem does not occur in Outlook or the Centurytel Webmail app, they determined it is a Thunderbird issue.
Wonderful. Any ideas?

Agreed, I was bummed when they dropped the case. The 3rd level Centurytel tech either didn't know, or wouldn't tell me what mail server package they used, so I couldn't follow up with that vendor.
The issue is tied to some aspect of the header formatting or content as created in T'bird. I ran tests using Outlook from here and had zero problems with my mails being delivered to any other mail server or domain. I also used the Centurytel Webmail client and had no problems.
I also sent messages created in T'bird and sent them with no problkem through an AT&T and GoDaddy account and didn't have any delivery issues. Only when I create and send the message from T'bird and deliver it through the Centurytel mail server does the selective delivery behavior rear it's ugly head...go figure.
I've used T'bird since it came out years ago and love it...but this is getting in the way, and my email addy is legacy and I am loathe to abandon it. I may have to change my email client to, *urp* Outlook or something else...
Thank you for checking in on this, Matt! If you think it would help I can send you the transcript of the rejected mail?

  • Problems sending mail: some problem with the outgoing mail server SMTP?

I can't send e mails: some problem with the outgoing mail server SMTP?

I had this same problem with both my imac and mac book pro using hotmail via mac mail with bt as my internet provider. Suddenly 4 months ago out of nowhere i could receive emails but could not send them. I scoured all the threads followed all the fixes none of them worked. However I just phoned apple support and fixed it in a matter of minutes. I am SO happy. This is what the technician advised me:
Go to your apple icon and scroll down to system preferences. Then dependant on what machine you have it is different for my imac and mac book pro click on either air port/wifi then the advanced tab in the bottom right hand corner. Then click on the DNS tab. Hit the + sign on the left hand side and type in 8.8.8.8 then hit the + sign again on the left hand side it will create a new line underneathe and type 8.8.4.4 then hit okay on the bottom right and then hit apply, again on the bottom right. Then send a test email to check but it should be fixed.
Had to share this. Its been driving me mad for months.

  • How do I fix my iPod touch's problem with hotmail outgoing mail server?

I have just received a new replacement iPod touch 8Gb.
On my old model I used the house wifi network to connect to HOTMAIL in the mail app it would set the account up immediately and work perfectly.
This time, when I tried to set the account up I had a long delay while it verified account details. Then after opting to set up account without using SSL an account was generated with an error message to say I may not be able to send or receive mail.
Incoming mail is OK, outgoing is not working.
The error message told me that I needed to configure my outgoing mail server.
My default outgoing server is set to smtp.live.com and works on port 587.
I have an additional server set to 'on', which is also smtp.live.com working on port 465, which was set up when I tried to alter the port number on the default server. Still no outgoing mail.
    Any suggestions?

Followed your instructions and again, account verification failed using SSL.
I chose to create without SSL and got the following message:
'The SMTP server 'smtp.live.com' is not responding'. I accepted the details,
the email Inbox populated, and everything looks normal.
    Same error is occuring:
'Connection to outgoing server 'smtp.live.com' failed. Additional outgoing mail servers can be configured in settings>mail, contacts and calendars'
    The settings are as follows:
    Incoming mail server
    Host Name: pop3.live.com
    username: is correct
    password: is correct
    Outgoing SMTP:
    Primary server
    host name: smtp.live.com
    username: is correct
password: is correct (has been re-entered just in case)
    Use SSL: OFF
    Authentication: password
    server port 587
I have duplicate SMTP servers listed under 'Other SMTP servers' with exactly the same details as above so it seems as if the iPod is retaining some settings even after I delete account.
Also, I wonder if there is anything I need to get the network administrator to do, because he did ask for the Wi-Fi address of my previous iPod touch could it just be a case of allowing it as a specific device on our network?

  • Trouble with all outgoing mail servers

Was there an update that would have knocked out my ability to send outgoing mail?  I can still receive mail from gmail.com, live.com and a business email account that had all been working fine till about a week ago.  I had not made any changes, but have since changed the outgoing port to 587, to no avail.  I have also tried to Repair Disk Permissions using the Disk Utility.  However, I still am not able to get the smtp servers to connect.
    Any ideas?

I have cleared my outbox and resent a test email from one account to the other, which I know is receiving emails.  I am using the Apple Mail application, which had been working just fine with all 3 accounts for the past 2 years.

  • Problem with some outgoing mail accounts

I have several pop accounts in Mail. On my home iMac, they use my ISP for outgoing. For example, one account is arizona.edu for incoming; it uses smtp.comcast.net for outgoing. This has worked perfectly for years. Suddenly last week, the outgoing mail stopped working.
The dialog box says the server has rejected the sender address. The only way I can send the message is to edit it, changing the "from" address to my mac.com address.
There's nothing new on my system. No software changes. When this happened, I tried re-entering my account info in Preferences, but no joy. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Thanks for chipping in.
    This is what I do.
    1.Enable IMAP in Gamil settings
    2. In iphone setup the mail by using Gmail option.
    3. I enter the user name, pswd et
    4. I save and it verifies the account
Now if I go to home screen and checks the mail account details again, the pswd field is blank again.
I have set up my yahoo account and it works perfectly well.
Hope the above info helps foryou to understand the issue and help me out.
    Thanks,
    Alex

  • Is Thunderbird incompatible with Office 365?

Our University recently migrated to Office365. According to our IT help desk Office365 doesn't "talk" with Thunderbird. All installation has been performed, but I get this "Login to server imap-mail.outlook.com failed" when I try to log in. Incoming and outgoing server settings are supposedly correct per our IT page. So, it seems there is some sort of block or language problem either at the Office365 exchange server or the Thunderbird code. Are there any reasonable solutions to this issue?

    Hi GregAld,
There was another question about this: [http://it.ucmerced.edu/get-help/guides-faqs/emailcalendar/office-365-emailcalendar-configuration/thunderbird-windows]
You may have to edit the advanced settings for example like what cornell does: [http://www.it.cornell.edu/services/thunderbird/howto/config-exchange.cfm]
I hope this helps, I do not know how the 365 server is configured, this will depend on the administrator.

  • JavaMail Problem with Outgoing Mail

Hi, I's using a J2EE web application that makes use of JavaMail and an SMTP mail server to send outgoing mails and POP3 mail server to recieve mails.
Everything is going fine with the POP3 mail server the application is able to recieve mails, and parse them.
But I have problem with the outgoing mails, The application is successfuly sending mails through the SMTP mail server to addresses inside my organization, but failing the relay them to external addresses.
Example: The application is successfuly sending mails to [email protected], but failing sendimg mails to [email protected]
PS: the Address I configured the application to send emails from, can send mails to external users.
    I'm using Microsoft Exchange Server.

Yeah man, I know. But the thing is am not familiar
with the Microsoft Exchange Server configuration. And
I guess my problem is a configureation problem. Then maybe a Java forum isn't the best place to be looking for help, innit? :-)
    Any
expertise with Exchange Server ?Somewhere between "zero" and "none whatsoever."

  • Outgoing mail problem

    hello mac users...
having problems with mac mail, again. spontaneously, without any changes to my system, i am not able to send mail. am able to receive, and am able to communicate with the outgoing mail server (as per a check with the system administrator) but all outgoing mail is held in my out box and i receive a generic error message when attempting to send mail. i had a problem with mail before that was remedied by deleting the envelope folder from the mail library, tried that again this time, to no avail...
    any suggestions?

You are able to send messages.
If a message cannot be sent for whatever reason, it will remain in the Outbox mailbox with an error message provided.
A message will not be moved to the account's Sent mailbox unless it was successfully sent by the SMTP server used by the account. Open any message in the account's Sent mailbox and at the menu bar, go to View > Message and select Long Headers.
Information in the Message ID field (ends with @mac.com or the domain for the email account provider used to send the message) is another indication the message was successfully sent.
A successfully sent message is either accepted or rejected by the recipient's incoming mail server. Due to spammers using "dictionary" attacks - guessing at email addresses for an email account provider's domain and not providing a valid sending or return email address, many ISP's and email account providers are no longer sending a return email error message to the sender of a message when a message is not accepted by recipient's incoming mail server.
If a message is accepted by the recipient's incoming mail server, what happens to the message after that has nothing to do with the email client used.
Although for the most part, messages are received in a matter of seconds but not always since successfully sent messages do not take a straight line from the account's SMTP server to the recipient's incoming mail server.
I completely reformatted my secondary hard drive, installed a
new system only and configured my mail account from scratch
and the problem is still there. I have also cleared the cache's using
Onyx, repaired permissions, even removed the battery to reset
other setting, but nothing has helped.
None of this has any effect or helps in this situation since these messages were successfully sent.
Contact your providers and ask if there is anything they can do with the Message IDs for these successfully sent messages.

  • Anyone having trouble with Verizon outgoing?

I was having issues with both my .Mac and my Verizon outgoing servers. I thought perhaps this was just a bad connection on my end but for the past few days I have been able to receive emails from both accounts without problems. The errors always occured when trying to send an email. I looked on the Apple support page and found that I could change my port # from 25 to 587. Magically I was able to send email through my .Mac account again!! Woohoo!
I still however cannot connect to the outgoing mail server for Verizon. The idiots on the phone at Verizon told me its' an Apple issue so here I am looking for some help. Anyone have any suggestions about how to resolve my connection issue with the outgoing mail?
I have tried deleting the account, creating a new one, using connection doctor to check connections, repaired permissions, etc. I can't pinpoint it exactly but it also seems that this started happpening right near the release of 10.4.8. Hope they didn't break my email!!!
    Thanks in advance.
    Bob
P.S. - I triple checked all the settings and am satisfied that they are indeed correct and contain no errors.

I haven't been affected by any sending problems with any of my accounts and SMTP servers nor have I seen any other reports here about the same so it is doubtful the 10.4.8 update is to blame here.
Do you have any other SMTP servers available in Mail besides the .Mac and Verizon SMTP servers?

  • PIXMA MX512 software incompatiblilty with Windows Live Mail

I recently bought a PIXMA MX512 and followed the instruction for installing the MX510 series software onto my 64 bit Windows 7 PC.  Then I started randomly getting wlmail (Windows Live Mail) errors with messages that make no sense.  I went back to a restore point before installing the software and the errors stopped.  I conclude at least one of the drivers or utilities must be incompatible with Windows Live Mail.  My Windows and virus protection is all up-to-date, and I have tried the Repair all on Windows Essentials 2012.
Does anyone else have experience with the MX510 series software while using Windows Live Mail.  I guess my plan now is do another system restore and try adding just one piece of software at a time to see if I can figure out which has the conflict, unless someone here has run into this and knows another solution.

    Hello.
Pleaes try downloading the latest MP Driver for the unit to see if this resolves your issue.  The program can be downloaded at the following link:

  • Roadrunner outgoing mail problem

Since my comcast account was changed to a Roadrunner account, I have had problems with my outgoing mail on my powerbook. I have no problem while at home hooked up to my RR cable. But when I travel and am on the hotel internet access, I can receive with no problem but cannot send via RR using Mail on my MacOS system. I must always go to the web based RR acount or use my seldom used .Mac account. Any ideas why I can't send email out. I am using smtp-server.tx.rr.com; port 25 no authentication, unchecked SSL.

You can try changing the Server Port from 25 to 587 for RR's SMTP's server when traveling and not connected to the internet via RR and if this doesn't work, you need to check with the hotel's front desk or with the hotel's internet service provider for their required settings when using an SMTP server that is outside of their network.
Since hotels have business and other types of travelers that take a notebook along and need access to their email accounts including sending messages with an email client such as Mail that requires using an SMTP server, certainly the hotel and/or the hotel's ISP is aware of and takes account for this but maybe not.
I don't travel as much as I once did but in my experience with some recent travel staying at a hotel with Ethernet internet access only in the room and wireless network access in the lobby area, after I logged in to the hotel's website that is provided when first connected and launching a browser, the hotel provides a password or passkey when checking in for gaining internet access via their network and internet access provider and after entering the required password, I was able to send messages with .Mac's SMTP server using Mail which is authenticated separately but I use 587 for the Server Port.
RR does not have or support an authenticated SMTP server so using 587 for the server port may work and if not, you must check with the hotel's front desk or with their internet service provider that should include technical support for their required settings.

  • No outgoing mail verizon yahoo

I am using a new Mac Pro laptop (snow leopard and all latest updates installed) and using Apple mail via Verizon Yahoo. I have an account and my wife has a sub account. They are both set up identically except for user ID and passwords.  I was sending out mail on my account and then all of sudden I lost outgoing mail capability with my outgoing mail name showing it to be "offline". But both accounts were set to online. Able to receive mail okay and my wife's sub account receives and sends mail okay.
I had this same problem once before with my desktop G4 and Tiger. But corrected, but do not remember how I did it, but do not think I reinstalled mail. I tried deleting my account and creating a new account using same login and password without success. I went into yahoo and signed in (using the my same mail ID and password) and was able to send and receive mail on my account. Any ideas?

I sent out a mail message successfully today from wife's subaccount, but later on when I tried to send another my wife's outgoing mail name shows "offline" as mine does. So now neither accounts have outgoing mail capability.
I took a screenshot yesterday (when her subaccount was working okay) of my wife's outgoing preference panel that shows the outgoing ID and PW, now after not being able to send out mail, I took another screenshot and the password has disappeared. This is the same thing I observed when  I lost outgoing mail on my account. Putting in the password again and saving the preferences did not regain outgoing mail capability.
