Thunderbird mail account order change

My objective is to sort my Thunderbird email accounts (not folders). However, it seems that the manually-sort-folders add-on is what is being recommended.
When installing the add-on "manually-sort-folders-1.1-tb.xpi", I get an error message saying that the add-on is not compatible with Firefox 35.0.1.
When trying to change prefs.js or use about:config, I cannot find any reference to "account1" as a starting point (I have 3 accounts).
What is going on?

Hello,
You could change the order of your accounts in the folders pane by modifying your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Prefs.js_file prefs.js] file as described in [http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=56225 this thread]. If you have trouble figuring out which accounts are assigned to which account numbers in prefs.js, or if you try changing the order of accounts in prefs.js but the order displayed in the folders pane is not what you expected, see [http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=544764#544764 this thread] for further information.

  • Mail Account order

The order of the accounts on my iPhone is different than the order on my Mac. Since these accounts sync, why is the order different?
How can I change the order on the iPhone?

    1. Delete ALL the mail accounts on your iPhone.(Do this on the iphone itself)
    2. Then, add each account one at a time at each sync in the order you want them to appear on your iphone (add 1st account then sync, add 2nd account then sync,
    etc...).
They should now appear in whatever order you want.

  • Mail account order sorting in 10.8.1

10.8.1 seems to have decided that I want my Mail accounts sorted alphabetically rather than the way I prefer (by usage). It reflects the order in Mail -> Preferences but there doesn't now seem to be any way to alter the sort order. Am I missing something?

Unfortunately, you can move your accounts in the sidebar as mende1 suggested, but, eventually, Mac OS will decide that you can't be right and that you can't have your way. It keeps switching back to its own sort order. This needs fixing. Right up there with random default appointment settings in iCal and more.

  • User's Mail account info changed

My wife just called me at work with a bizarre Mail situation. Our iMac at home has 2 user accounts, mine and hers, and each has Mail configured for our own individual e-mail accounts, reasonably enough.
My Mail account is a full .Mac account. Her e-mail account is an e-mail only .Mac account, with her own e-mail address, obviously.
This morning the power went off and the computer with it. When she restarted, she logged into her account and got my e-mail. And when she checks the account details it is indeed configured to receive my mail.
For the time being I've asked her to use webmail until I get home to take a look. Could this have something to do with the upcoming .Mac changes? How could a power outage switch Mail accounts?

Now that I've come home I can guess roughly what happened. The power outage must have caused one of the Mail files--preferences or something--to become corrupt, and so the account didn't show up when Mail started.
Now, my .Mac settings are in her system preferences. So Mail, being friendly and accommodating, must have automatically created a .Mac account for her when it found no other accounts configured in Mail and since my account settings were in system preferences, it was able to do that no problem.

  • Mail account type change

We have a user who recently got an ipad.  Until now she only accessed her email via a laptop with mail.app or via a browser.  Now she wants to access with the mobile device and keep the laptop, ipad and server email messages in sync.
The email account is set up on her laptop as a POP account and as an IMAP account on the ipad.  We'd like it all to be set up using Exchange protocol.
If we delete the existing POP account and re-establish the account as exchange, what will happen to all the old email messages on the laptop?  The user does not want to lose them.
    Thanks for any help.
    Rich

You can drag the mail folder (not the application or icon, the mail folder that houses the messages) to the desktop and all of her messages will be stored there and can be reimported back into the mail application. Its a good way to back up incase something happens!
If you're on OSX 10.7, its a hidden folder. In previous versions, you can spotlight search and the 'mail' folder will show up (not to be confused with the 'Mail Downloads' folder). If she's on OS X 10.7, you can find the folder like this:
    1. Click the 'Finder' icon on your dock (happy face guy)
    2. At the top of your screen you'll see the Apple > Finder > File > Edit etc etc... Click 'Go'
    3. Select 'Go To Folder' and type ~/library and press 'Go'
    4. (You should be in the library folder at this point) -- find the 'Mail' folder and drag it to the desktop.. then you can delete and re-add the mail account and reimport the mail and mailboxes.
    Hope this helps!

  • Change Mail Account order

I wish to change the order of my 4 email accounts in MAIL.   That is, that order in which they are listed on the side bar and in Preferences; Acounts.
How do I do that?  thanks!

For the account listing, drag them into the order you want. For the Preferences, I don't think it makes a difference where they are, and there is no way to reorder them.

  • HT1199 Why is mail stuck in a do-loop of "There is a problem" with the mail account after changing iCloud password?  How can it be fixed?

After changing passwords for iCloud, Mail is stuck in a do-loop "There is a [problem..."  The error appears in less than one second after responding "Later"

Nope.  Turns out that even though I have two Macs running 10.9.4, the one in question doesn't get the SMTP settings changed by iCloud settings when the password is changed, so I had to "Edit" the account in Mail, plow down to the password settings for the Apple SMTP server, and change the password myself.  Nothing in the System Preferences iCloud setting tab lets you change any settings on the local machine.  Apple is sure they are controlling everything when you make changes in iCloud, but they are wrong.  Identical versions of 10.9.4 are configured differently on two different Macs.

  • Mail Accounts Order

I've got 13 email accounts on my iPhone. The Accounts screen only shows 8 accounts at a time. Is there a way to change the order that they are listed on the screen?
Some of these accounts are fairly inactive, but I don't want to just delete them, yet they sit at the top of the screen while more important (active) accounts are at the bottom and have to be scrolled to.
Today, in order to (finally) get MobileMe push of my contacts and calendars to work, I had to go on the iPhone and delete the old .Mac account from the iPhone, and recreate it with the MobileMe add button. This put this account (my most important one) at the bottom of my accounts. I'd really like it at the top without having to delete and reenter all the other accounts in the order that I want them to appear.
    Any suggestions?

But the answer turns out not to work (quite apart from being disappointing). In whatever order I create the three accounts after deleting them. they always appear in the same order in Preferences. I should be most grateful for more guidance.

  • Mail account ordering

I set up two email accounts on my iPhone 3GS.  When I start the mail app it checks the first one first, and I would like it to check the second one first.  How can I make it do that?

There is no setting for this.

  • How can I change the default mail account in mail v6.3

I have in my mail preferences four accounts. The first one is a "Google IMAP" and all others are just "IMAP". When I'm composing a new email it defaults to the wrong account. Intuitively I think the the first account listed under mail preference would be the default one, but I'm unable to move the order. How to I change this?

To change your default mail account, you just have to change the mail accounts order in the Mail sidebar. First of all, if you don't see your mailboxes under "Inbox" (at the top of the sidebar), press the arrow, and your mail accounts will appear.
Now, you just have to drag the mail account you want by default to the first position

  • How Can I Change Default Mail Account in Mail Application?

I have 2 Gmail accounts. Gmail1 and Gmail2. When I changed the password of my Gmail1 account - which used to be my default mail account - it changed in the Mail application so that now Gmail2 is my default mail account.
I know that usually you can go
Preferences -> Accounts -> And on the list on the left you can just drag the mail account you want to be the default account to the top of the list. But it doesn't work. It's just not possible to move them around on the list, they are all stuck.
Can anyone help me understand why I can't reorder my mail accounts, or if there is another way to which I can change my default mail account?
    Thanks.

    Hey wilhel10002,
Thanks for the question. My answer to your question relies on what you determine to be the default account. If it is simply which account is at the top of the list, yes you can re-order the accounts in the sidebar as needed (not from Mail > Preferences > Accounts).
However, I personally perceive the default account as the account that I send new messages from. This behavior can be adjusted in Mail > Preferences > Composing > Send new messages from
    Mail (Mountain Lion): Composing preferences

    Thanks,

  • Changed password for e-mail account and cannot send e-mails

Went into setting, "mail, contacts and calendar" under my e-mail account I changed the password, but now I can't send any e-mails out.  Checked with comcast and all the settings are correct.  What is the problem?

If your email provider requires the password for sending emails then as well as changing it on the account when you tap on it in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, you may also need to tap on SMTP (under the 'outgoing mail server' heading) on that popup screen and then tap on the outgoing server name on the next screen and update the password there as well.

  • How do I delete an old e-mail account from my Apple ID?

When I purchased my iPad, I registered with an old y-mail account and a backup e-mail to my girlfriend's e-mail address, Now I have a g-mail account and need to delete the y-mail account and change the backup e-mail account. I cannot find information that will help me accomplish this.

    Try here...
I no longer have an email address that was also my Apple ID. Can I still use the email address as my Apple ID?
Apple recommends you change your Apple ID to your current, working email address. This will not create another Apple ID, it will only change it to your working email address. See Changing the name you use for your Apple ID if you'd like more information.
Note: @mac.com and @me.com Apple IDs can not be renamed.  If you no longer use the .mac or .me email address be sure to add your valid email address as an additional email address.

  • Mozilla Thunderbird Mail

I am still learning my new ipad. Is it possible to add my Thunderbird mail account along with my mail folders? I like to sort by folder instead of everything being kept in one place.

To my knowledge Thunderbird is a mail program not a mail account. If the mail account is a IMAP account then the iPad mail app may automatically duplicate your folder. However, if it is a POP3 account then the folders will not be duplicated. If you do not know, we might be able to help you if you say who is your email provider.
