Thunderbird no longer gets my email

It was working and it did some upgrades and it allows me to send emails, but after a few days I noticed when someone complained I hadn't responded to my email that I wasn't getting any. I checked my isp with webmail and sure enough there were 13 emails sitting there. I never saw any error messages and mea culpa I hadn't paid any attention to the little text bar on the bottom left of the main screen believing if I had an email it would be in my inbox. Failing to retrieve it had never previously a problem.
I checked the tools/error console and found a bunch of gooblygook about some file not existing and line 124 errors. Googling that I learned a 124 bug was fixed in Thunderbird 30. So I tried that. No luck. The line 124 error is NOT gone but a bunch of new error stuff now also exists. Of course nothing about any of the error messages or what to do about them is found in the 'Thunderbird help' files. The number of emails sitting in my ISP has grown but Webmail by browser seems to be the only way to view them so far.
When I click on get messages, in the bottom left screen, Thunderbird connects to my isp, it sees the emails, announces that is commencing download of X# of emails (30 today), but does nothing and after a few minutes that information also disappears.
My machine is a 32 bit Compaq tower type XP (SP3).
The error messages in tools/error console are;

Things I have tried without success. Closing Thunderbird, then deleting it from my C:\Program files, then clearing all caches and temp folders, rebooting and reinstalling Thunderbird.
Closing Thunderbird and deleting the Db-sql file in the mail folder buried in Documents and Applications then restarting Thunderbird.
I have no add on files that could be interfering.
I have even tried disabling my anti virus before attempting to start Thunderbird (which is a really, really dumb thing to try), but still Thunderbird just sits there and lies about retrieving my email and does nothing.
What is the fix?

errors in the error console are mostly junk. To the point that you have to clear it try the action and then decide if anything that appears looks like it might be relevant.
I actually think you might have been on the right track with the anti virus.
To that end, try restarting the operating system in [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 safe mode ]with networking. and then try geting your mail.
If that works you were on the right track. If it does not, moving right along.
Who is your mail provider.? Please copy and paste the troubleshooting information from the Help menu to a message here so we can check your settings.

  • I can no longer get my email to open

My email has stopped working on my IPAD. It has worked for months but stopped. I have deleted and re-entered my email address....I have syned again....still doesn't open email. Any help would be appreciated.

From what you are saying - It is not clear as to whether the mail app will not open or if the app opens but you can't get your email. In any event, try the basic troubleshooting steps if you haven't tried them already.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit the mail app and restart the iPad. In order to quit or close apps - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button. The task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. If you are using multitasking gestures in iOS 5 - you can swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the task bar. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Turn the email account off and then turn it on again. Go to Settings>Mail>AOL Account>Mail>Off. Launch the mail app. Then quit the app as described above. No need to restart. Go back to Settings>Mail>AOL Account>Mail>On. Go back to your email account and see if it works.

  • For no apparent reason I can no longer get my email icon to work.  All I get is a completely blank screen.

For no apparent reason I can no longer receive or send emails.  In fact when I touch the email icon all I get is a blank screen.  I have checked my email settings all seems fine.  Regards Kim

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • I am using iPhoto version 9.6 and I can no longer get an email sent with a photo attached. I get an error message saying the email did not go through because the server did not reply. I can send the photo with Mail. Help!

I have upgraded to Yosemite and also updated the iPhoto application to version 9.6. I am no longer able to send a photo from iPhoto via email. I get an error message saying the server is not responding. But, when using the same server in Mail, I can attach the photo and send it. My wife is using the older version of iPhoto and it works fine.
I have checked the settings for the outgoing server, etc. and the Mail settings match those in iPhoto.
Could this be due to either the Yosemite upgrade or the iPhoto upgrade?

This solution is for those of you using 2-step verification for your Apple ID and are using iCloud as the mail server that you are trying to mail photos with.
I too had this issue. The problem in my case occurred because I had setup 2-step authentication for my Apple ID. If you have done this then you will get the error message "the mail server did not recognize your email/password...". To solve the problem go to:
    https://appleid.apple.com
    Click "Manage Your Apple ID"
Verify your identity with the device you selected (if this step does not show up then you have not likely set up 2-step authentication and this is not your solution)
Click Password and Security in the left column
    Click Generate an app-specific password
Enter iPhoto as the name of the app
Copy the password and paste this into the password box in iPhoto where you would normally enter your apple ID (in the mail account section in iPhoto preferences).
    And...voila' (I hope)

  • HT4859 My emails no longer appear on my computer but only on my iPad and iPhone. How do I get my emails to also appear on my computer?

Hello I have a problem - I live in France so this might be something to do with my service provider (orange).  But I can't work out how to continue to get my emails on my mac mail application on my computer when I have icloud switched on on my iphone and ipad.  I receive my emails on both iphone and ipad but not on my computer.  It's as if my computer has become a slave to my ipad.
I can disable the icloud service for mail on my iphone but then I can't send emails from my second account from my iphone (I have both a .mac account and another account).  When icloud is switched on and when I'm using the g3 on my iphone,  when I receive an email on my orange account all I have to do is change the address from which I am sending an email in the "from" line from my iphone and I can reply from my phone.
However if I switch off icloud on my iphone I can indeed reply from my .mac address but not from my other address - ie the drop down menu doesn't appear which means I have to copy out the original email if I wan to reply in detail.
But if I keep icloud switched on I no longer get my emails on my computer - only on the server. I think there ought to be something I can switch over on icloud but I don't know what.
    Any ideas?

I would understand it if you checked email on your Mac, and then those messages were not available on your iOS devices if you had the advanced account setting "remove copy from server after retrieving message:" set to immediately.
I looked through my iPhone settings and don't even see an option to tell my phone to pull the only copy of a message and delete it from the server.
Possibly there is another setting in Lion (I am running Snow Leopard still) that tells your Mac to only synchronize mail to your iOs devices and is not pulling mail directly from iCloud.
You could try disabling your current iCloud email account in Mac Mail, and adding a new one and just telling Mail it is a standard IMAP account (imap.mail.me.com incoming and smtp.mail.me.com outgoing).
I did that for Leopard to get my email even to work after MobileMe is cancelled and it seems to work fine with my iPhone.
If that doesn't work, you can delete that new email account and re-enable the temporarily disabled iCloud email account from above.
    Hope this helps.

  • I forgot my password to get inot email on Thunderbird. How do I retrieve the password or set a new one?

When I ttry to get my email through Thunderbird, it is now asking me for my password, but I have forgotten it, it has been so long since I have been asked for it. How do I retrieve the password, or set a new one?
YOU CANNOT EMAIL ME MY ANSWER SINCE I CANNOT OPEN MY EMAIL. CALL at 240-305-7128 or email at [email protected]
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

You need to go to the website of your email provider, only there can you change your password, or let them send you a new one to a different address. Thunderbird can't help you with that.

  • Cannot send or receive email using Thunderbird, but can get it just fine on Verizon server.

Every time Mozilla/Thunderbird does a major upgrade I have a problem with sending and receiving my email. When trying to send an email, I get the message:
"An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.7.1 Missing or literal domains not allowed. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again."
Using my regular email password, I am able to get my email from the Verizon server just fine. It simply will not work with Thunderbird. Every time there is a major upgrade I spend hours and hours with Verizon techs with them trying to figure out what is wrong. Yesterday was one such day and we looked at EVERYTHING and no reason could be found for the problem. The tech concluded that the problem had to be with Thunderbird and that I should re-enstall it!!!! I don't have time to reinstall it! Somehow it has been fixed before but we don't even know how.
    Please HELP!!

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • HT1338 i downloaded new updates to my garage band and when I restarted a warning popped up when i opened my mailbox that the version I have no longer is being supported.  Then, for some reason, the app is gone and don't know how to get my email back on my

i donwloaded new updates for my garage band with instruments (which was about 1.2gb) .  When I started my email a message popped up that my email is not supported with the version of the email - I was confused and went into applications and tried using the "mail.app" and then I lost my "Mail" app on my dock and now there's no way for me to get my emails or find the app to load back on my dock.  Could someone please help me??

If your Mail app is no longer inside your Applications folder, use Spotlight to locate the application.  Once you find it, place the application back inside the Applications folder.  Then drag the original Mail app to the dock & let go.  The Mail app should now appear in the Dock.

  • Can get on fav website, check new items& account--but when I go to order, it won't process order. other websites no longer get get email sent to me

Problem 1: There is a local website that I have an account with (for a long time) that offers good deals with vouchers...etc. Since I have got Firefox, I get their emails, I can go on the site and check the emails, get to my account to see what I have, delete used vouchers, etc. But than when I place order and go to my cart, I put in the couple items you always have to put in (ph# and hit x confirm by the rules)==I hit confirm order and the site doesn't take the order. It erases my ph number & x by confirm. I put it in again and does same thing. I missed out on some good deals because of this. I called the place (our newspaper) that runs this HOP On It by the Billings Gazette & they got an order through on their computer & said it has to be with my computer. Yesterday I tried to place another order and the same thing happens. Could you please tell me what is going on and how to correct this? This is an important site for me. Thank you.
Problem 2: I have some websites I also like to get emails from for store ads & coupons (Hobby Lobby) and a site called SplitCoast Stampers. For some time now, I don't get their emails. I tried several times to resign up for the newsletters and/or emails. I either get the message you are already registered, but than still no in-coming mail or it will let me resign up and no mail. This has happened with a couple other places I've done business with too, but right now can't remember which other ones. Can you help with this problem too? Thank you.
