Thunderbird rejects the password I've been using. I asked for a new one. Thunderbird said it would email it to me. I did it twice. I got no email.

Thunderbird has nothing to do with administering your email password. There is no place to request that Thunderbird send you a new one. I would love to see the link where you did this. I have asked lots of people for the link where Thunderbird promises to send you a new password but no one ever provides it.
You need to work with your email provider to reset your password. Go to their web mail or email help page and look for a link to reset your password.
There are other things that can return the password error even if you use the correct username and password. Incorrect server settings or an overactive antivirus software could be the real problem. When you are at your providers web mail page use your username and password to log into your account. If they work there then you have a different issue.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If it is still under warranty, and they determine it is a manufacturing defect, they will replace it. Be sure to back everything up before taking it into the Apple Store. That way, if you do get a new device, you will be able to set it up from the backup.

You can use the Tab key to select a search engine on the bottom bar and press Enter to use the search engine to do the search.

In the current Firefox 34 release there is a new "one-off" search bar.
This search bar doesn't show the name of the search engine and a logo.
You can type one letter to make a drop-down list appear where you can see suggestions and see the used search engine and that also has bar at the bottom where you can select other search engines that are enabled via the Search tab in Options/Preferences.
You can use the Tab key to select one of the other available search engines and press the Enter key to search with the selected search engine.
Click the search engine icon and click "Change Search Settings" to open the Search tab in Options/Preferences (positioned between Tabs and Content) to select the default search engine and select which search engines to show in the search bar drop-down list that opens when you start typing search terms.

The messages obviously did not transfer over to my new phone as I had to restore my new phone from a backup performed a few days ago. Is there a special trick that will allow me to somehow enter my cell number, since it is still the same, in order to recover texts that were received in between wiping my old phone and getting a new one?

You can use an iPhone file explorer such as TouchCopy to get the messages off the old phone. But you can't put them on the new phone as messages. You could put them in a pdf file that you could read on the new phone.
Normally when you get a new phone the first thing you should do is transfer the contents of the old phone to it (Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device - Apple Support)). Then the problem does not arise. You are even prompted to do this when you activate the new phone. Once you have started using the new phone without doing this it is too late.

I've had to reset my password 3 times in the last 3 days.
At first, I couldn't get my email. I sweated it out for 12 hours, reset my password and I was good to go again. 48 hours later, I ran into the same issue. Only problem is, not only do I get the 'Incorrect username or password' on my device, but my iCloud.com login no longer works. so now I can't read my messages on the web OR on my device/computer.

If the setting is greyed out perhaps you have restrictions enabled that would prevent someone from changing accounts. Settings>General>Restrictions>Allow Changes>Accounts.

You should have no need to use the Old Sync account.
As long as device or devices are Firefox 29 or later (They should all be Firefox 30 now) you should use the New Sync.
You may use the same email address with both accounts.

When I went to bed last night, Apple Mail (Lion, MacBook Pro) worked fine on my home IMAP server, as they have done for some time.
This morning, I cannot log in and I now get the following error message:
The IMAP server “...” rejected the password for user “...”.
The password is definitely correct. I have typed in the password repeatedly (although it was already correct) to no avail - I just get the same error message again.
Since then, I have tried:
my Linux laptop using Thunderbird
my Xoom (running Android ICS) and K9
my SGS2 (running Honeycomb) and K9
my iPad 2 using IOS Mail
Roundcube (webmail client) on the MacBook Pro itself (so no connectivity issues)
and all still work perfectly. There have been no changes to my mail server (which is Dovecot running on Debian Squeeze, which has been running flawlessly for years) and none to my MacBook Pro (unless they were silent).
I have tried deleting all the relevant items from my keychain, but that has made no difference either.
Any ideas because I'm stumped?

Since I posted this, there has been more, but slightly different, weirdness.
In the middle of a session yesterday, Apple Mail started to do something different. When I typed in the password, it briefly worked (downloading one or two messages) and then the error dialogue box popped up again so clearly the password was always correct.
A short while later, it accepted the password and stopped complaining until ten minutes ago. This time I only had to type in the password once and it is working at the moment but who knows how long for?
