Thunderbird takes 30 seconds to startup with Unresponsive Script citing mailWindow.js. 6-8 IMAP accounts, mainly gmail.

I have Thunderbird 31.1.2, on my Windows 8.1.
I have about 6-8 IMAP accounts, mainly from gmail.
Thunderbird has always opened within a second or 2 when I click on it. Then all of a sudden it started taking 30 seconds to open.
The main toolbar at the top will appear, with the folders on the left. The main viewing window stays blank and Thunderbird remain unresponsive for 30 seconds. Then everything loads fine.
I couldn't bother to figure out the problem so I lived with it for a few months.
Now the same thing has happened with my Thunderbird on my Windows 7 installation, opening the same IMAP accounts. Just that the Windows 7 installation gives this error after the 30 seconds:
"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
Script: chrome://messenger/content/mailWindow.js:174"
So now that I have 2 Thunderbirds taking so long to open, I have to find a solution.
Can anyone assist? Thanks

I wouldn't expect the size of the mail files to be a problem in the first place. However, are you accumulating messages in Inbox? If so, move them to a different folder.

  • Firefox 16.0.1 Crashes, Not Responding with Unresponsive Script Warnings and Adobe Flash Plugin Crashes

    Hello,
    I'm experiencing some issues with Firefox 16.0.1 which I had also experienced with Firefox 15.0.1.
    On numerous occasions Firefox has crashed while attempting to access a website link contained in an AOL e-mail message.
    Unrelated to that issue, Firefox has hung up frequently with associated unresponsive script warnings and occasionally with the Adobe Flash Plugin crashing. Some of the unresponsive script warnings are:

    I've reset Firefox and disabled all the plugins and yet these problems persist.
    What are those script warnings actually telling me and are there any recommendations on how to resolve these issues?
    Thank you,
    Mike

    You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
    *disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
    *disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
    *disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • I have an unresolved problem with unresponsive scripts despite the ed-meister's kind help

    on approx.dec.10,the ed_meister emailed me answer 122359 and i took his advice and registered at informaction(noscript)forum.they were supposed ti email me a key to complete the registration but they never did so i subsequently uninstalled noscript.however,i continue to get error messages re unresponsive scripts that seem to be a payback,e.g.,
    a.chrome://noscript/control/main.js.3722
    b.file:///C:program%20files/mozilla%20/firefox/modules XPCOMutils.jsm:165

    BLOCKLIST SERVICES.js:648
    f."script"chrome://saff/content/safplg.js.2864'
    There are more but i'm just too tired.
    on noscript's FAQ re whitelist,i was amazed to see that one can disable any item except chrome from whitelist because "firefox would not work without it because it is a priviliged pseudo-protocol used by firefox". I thought chrome was a rival browser to firefox!
    but since chrome's daddy is google and they are the new microsoft
    (the 800 lb.web gorilla),i get it that its best to play nice with them.
    Look, i really don't care.i'm just an old dude who doesn't know crap about tech and just don't want these damn scripts to slow up my old pc any more than it is. i can't recall these problems before installing Noscript and can't get why i keep getting them even after uninstalling Noscript.Have they taken Firefox over?i have refused many requests to make chrome by default browser because i'm old school
    and loyal but this really has me wondering.Can you resolve these problems for me or not?Ed-meister,if you read this,i'm not mad at you,pal.You are a gent and you did try to help.i'm grateful to you.

    I also have this problem and never had it before. This scripts that become non responsive and there are more than just this one, really really cripples my system to the point where I have to wait 5 minutes between clicks in the web browser... When is FireFox going to address this issue?
    This is the error message I get: Script: file:///G:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsLoginManager.js:302

  • Dealing with unresponsive scripts?

    FF 35.0.1, no plugins active, no add-ons installed, Mac OS X 10.6.8
    Hi, Every time I browse newegg.com (different accounts/boot drives), at least one open tab will soon spinning-beach-ball hang with message:
    Warning: Unresponsive script
    A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped
    responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in
    the debugger, or let the script continue.
    Script: http://cdn.krxd.net
    /ctjs/controltag.js.0663le6b152733188c0cac5a80502b56:2
    [ ] Don't ask me again
    (Debug script) (Stop script) (Continue)
    The only way I've been able to *sometimes* close the tab, is - if able - choose (Debug script), wait until debug window section fill in, then hit the close "x" on the right side of the tab, wait for the tab to close, and then for the same error message to reappear, then hit any of the choices to finish the closure. Otherwise Force Quit.
    Thanks for any comment.

    Thanks for the reply.
    Mainly I was trying to find out if there was a "stronger" way to get out of such a hanging/unresponsive tab without a Force Quit of the entire application - for future reference.
    To me it looks like the script is associated with custom ads located along the side of the page, or tracking. I suspect that script is run only when certain ads are pushed to the page. (cdn.krxd.net is apparently part of Krux "Consumer Web Data Management".)
    If further detail might assist: As stated above I run no extensions or add-ons (and generally either run as private browsing, or clear *everything* at least at the end of every session). Malware is not an issue, and the problem was repeatable on various accounts and boot volumes.
    The newegg website is useless with javascript disabled, so that is not an option. I'd rather not start using add-ons, but it appears that there are some "JavaScript blacklist" ones out there. I suspect that the problem will probably disappear unexpectedly when the ad run expires or the script changes.

  • Every 5 seconds Firefox says "warning: unresponsive script"!!I

    I've always used firefox, but all of a sudden for seemingly no reason, every 10-15 seconds that warning pops up. Sometimes if you hit continue it works, sometimes it keeps popping up until you hit stop, then it starts up again. It doesn't matter what website I'm at, if I'm even loading a website, or if it's loading fast. Even after a website has completely loaded, it keeps happening. It will freeze, do the spinning wheel, and produce the warning. Therefore, Firefox is unusable for the time being. Any suggestions?

    Crashes are pretty random - can't link them to any particular site or action. The unresponsive script messages mostly come from e-mail sites (yahoo, gmail). Pop-ups are frequent and annoying, and may be causing some of the crashes.

  • T450s startup takes 35 seconds before showing splash screen. (11 sec wake-up)

    The follwing are my problems:1. When starting up the machine, it takes about 35 seconds before the first screen activity appears (Lenovo splash screen). After that it boots quite normal.
    2. When waking out of sleep mode it takes 11 seconds before I see the power led stopping to "breath" and the screen wakes up.
    It feels like this is a hardware/bios related issue, as (so far I know) hdd/ssd is only accessed after the bios has loaded and has finished its hardware checks. When sticking in a bootable usb it only starts flickering after the bios had loaded on screen.
    Question:
    Does anyone has an idea why my laptop is waiting so long to boot or to wake up? I don't mind waiting a bit, but waiting for 35 seconds + the normal boot time is really annoying. Specially with the fact that the laptop doesn't show any sign of live for 35 seconds after briefly lighting up the keyboard backlights. The wake-up delay is also very annoying since even my 7 year old BSOD laptop wakes-up faster, and I'm using sleep mode a lot.
    Some origins that I'm thinking about:
    - Hardware check during initial hardware startup does not yet recognize a dedicated GPU card. (POST: Power On Self Test)
    - I don't think this is a problem with my software since the problems occurs before reading any media.
    Things I tryed already:
    - Reset bios.
    - Start in legacy mode.
    - Bios update
    - rebuilding MBR (although I don't expect this to be the problem.)
    - Refreshing windows installation although I don't expect this to be the problem.)
    This problem was already at the beginning (with origenal hardware):
    From the first time I started the laptop (so even with the HDD) I noticed it took quite long to start. I remember pressing the ON/OFF button multiple times and thinking I did something wrong, when suddenly the "Lenovo" splash screen appeared.
    I hope someone can help me!

    My problems have been solved! An engineer contacted me that they have recieved a spare mainboard and they wanted to make an appointment. I gave them the adress where I worked the next day since I'm very mobile, and the next day an engineer came by. He seemed like a skilled IBM engineer and tested my machine and came to the same conclusion as me. He then did a few tests to see if the problem was caused by something else then the mainboard but ended by replacing my mainboard with good care. After the replacement the the boot and wake-up time was normal like it should be. I'm very pleased by the service Lenovo ThinkPad has given me. I need to add that when I called for support I got someone on the line that could not really understand me, neighter dutch or english. But that was also duo a bad connection it seemed.. But after that call I did not really expect this would come to a good end. I was then really suppriced that 5 day's later a dutch engineer manager called me to make a appointment.

    I have a problem with my new Apple Air. It usually takes few seconds for the laptop to be untouched in order to be locked. So, sometimes when the screen starts to get dim in order to lock, I immediately touch the keypad to avoid locking the laptop, the result is a black screen appears with no responding to anything from pressing the keyboard to pressing the touchpad. It takes few minutes for the laptop to open again and then a message appears saying that there was a problem with the lock security.
    What is happening exactly?

    It sounds like your sleep timers are set to too low of a value.  Go to System Preferences -> Energy Saver and set both timers to longer times.  The computer sleep timer should be a longer time than the display sleep timer.

  • Downloading 4.0 onto XP it takes a long conection process, with boxes on unresponsive script and a java scipt app saying type error and is all very annoying so what can I do I want the old firefox back a

    I downloaded Firefox 4.0 replacing an earlier Firefox version. I have XP on my computer. When I now click on the Firefox icon after a time a window saying Unresponsive script and underneath script chrome etc comes up. I then press stop script and another window comes up Java Script application and type error. Eventually I get on to the internet but it's all very frustrating. I wish I had ignored the request to download 4.0
    Please help

    I can assure you that the sympton is indeed identical. For as the computer got worse, eventually it refused to start up and made 3 beeps. It has done this before, but today more times than before (just like when it first had this problem). Where-ever you go on the internet, it will tell you that the 3 beeps suggest the RAM is at fault. So, the same 3 beeps, means the same problem, which is the RAM.
    With that in mind, I re-ask my question with the same reasoning and justification; am I still covered under warranty? (Reasoning/Justification: Considering the original problem was not entirely fixed, though something else was to make the MacBook Pro last a little longer before the reoccurance of this problem).

  • Brightness control at startup with systemd

    I finally upgraded to systemd (I know... a bit later than I should have), and the transistion has been smooth, except for enabling brightness controll at boot.
    I currently have a bit of a hack working to enable brightness control on my Dell XPS 13 ultrabook. I have two backlight interfaces (/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight and /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0), and I have found that the only way to alter my screen brightness is to set the intel_backlight brightness value to 0 and then alter the brightness file under the acpi_video0 interface. I must always write the 0 to the intel_backlight/brightness file, even if it already contains 0, to enable brightness control through acpi_video0.
    I had had this code in my rc.local previously, and it worked exactly as I needed to enable brightness control:
    #!/bin/bash
    # set intel interface to 0, allowing acpi interface to take precedence
    echo 0 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
    # set the permissions of the acpi brightness file for video group (me) regular user modification
    chgrp video /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
    chmod 664 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
    # initialize brightness to a low level
    echo 3 > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
    exit 0
    Currently when I run this script normally it grants me the brightness control I desire through the modification of /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness. I have made this script into a systemd service initiated at startup, with the service file below:
    [Unit]
    Description=Brightness Control Initialization
    [Service]
    Type=oneshot
    ExecStart=/usr/lib/systemd/scripts/bright_init
    RemainAfterExit=yes
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
    My issue is that although the service is initiated at startup without error, my brightness control does not function like it does when I run the script manually myself. I have verified that systemd considers the service to have run successfully after startup, and I have also enabled both the multi-user.target and above service.
    My questions are twofold:
    1. Is there a better way to allow brightness control other than the somewhat hacky method of zeroing the /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness file with the above script?
    2. And does anyone have an idea as to why my service doesn't work, even though I can run the script after startup and it functions as I desire?

    It is interesting to see that this is working for you. I had to add OWNER="root" to the rule. Otherwise when testing the rule with `udevadm test` I always recieved a permission denied error. But even with OWNER="root" Udev did not actually write the ATTR{brightness}="2" into the file.
    Manually doing that by echo 2 > ... works well. I searched a bit on this topic and found a thread on the Gentoo forum where they say that it is not wise to use Udev for writing anything to /sys. Instead you should use Udev to run a script that does that:
    [orschiro@thinkpad ~]$ cat /etc/udev/rules.d/50-powersave.rules
    SUBSYSTEM=="power_supply", ENV{POWER_SUPPLY_ONLINE}=="0", RUN+="/home/orschiro/Scripts/powersaving battery"
    SUBSYSTEM=="power_supply", ENV{POWER_SUPPLY_ONLINE}=="1", RUN+="/home/orschiro/Scripts/powersaving AC"
    [orschiro@thinkpad ~]$ cat /usr/local/bin/powersaving
    #!/bin/sh
    case $1 in
    battery)
    echo "Running powersaving on AC in 3 seconds"
    sleep 3
    # screen power saving"
    echo 200000 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
    AC)
    echo "Running powersaving on battery in 3 seconds"
    sleep 3
    # screen power saving
    echo 4270725 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness

  • ITunes loading delays on screaming machine - takes 90 seconds to load

    Need some help. Just built a new machine from the ground up. It has Intel Duo Core E6600 2.40 ghz CPU, 1066Mhz FSB, 4 mb L2 Cache; 2 gb DDR Ram; 500gb Raid 0 HDD; GeForce 7600GT 256mb Video card. Running Windows XP Home until Vista comes out. Screams. All other apps load in <1sec. iTunes 7.0.2 takes 90 seconds to load. With NAV & Firewall off still takes 75 seconds to load. iTunes load on other older PC's in the house takes 5-20 seconds. When watching Task Manager on itunes.exe; in first second ~25,000k loads into memory, then hangs for 90 seconds and then remaining load happens taking memory usage up to ~45,400k. Any ideas as to what's going on? Baffling?

    sorry for the delay in getting back to you Windbeam. 60-odd reply-notification backlog in my inbox, and i'm trying to alert people that i'm not going to be around much for the next 2 weeks.
    Seems to be related to hardware or the OS. Solution is to have a cd in the drive and then the load screams. Makes no sense at all! Very strange.
    good lord ... that is peculiar. if it wasn't for the fact that having the CD in there was helping boot times too, i'd be wondering about a problem with your iTunes CD drivers ... but they don't load on startup.
    perhaps check on the general wellness of the drive? i'm getting similar symptoms at the moment from belladonna (just during boot-up, though). her optical drive is broken at the moment, and when she's booting there is a significant delay, and i can hear the desultory clunky/whirr noises as the drive tries to run during those delays.
    so it might be worth just doublechecking if your firmware is up-to-date on the drive. there's some info in these documents that might help with that:

  • Mail problem with some IMAP accounts - login fails, Thunderbird OK

    After upgrading to Mountain Lion Mac Mail fails to connect to some of my IMAP accounts. I tried everything I can think of. The problem is, the accounts work fine with Thunderbird. However, one of my IMAP accounts works with my main user account's settings (it was imported from my Lion set up), but it fails to set up with a second user. It seems to me that using IMAP with my provider and the Mountain Lion Mail is not working.
    Rebooting my saved Lion installation confirmed that it still works...
