Thunderbird updated... now links wont open

Links in emails worked prior to the update. (Chrome browser).
If I log into the web based email (Gmail & Yahoo) the links still work just fine.
Another new development, every time I close and reopen TB, I get the message:
Do you want to allow the program to make changes to this computer?
Did I get a corrupted file?

close Thunderbird.
check to see if Thunderbird is set to run as Administrator.
Right-click the Thunderbird desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
Compatibility mode:
'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' should not be selected
Privilege Level:
'Run this program as Administrator' should not be selected
You can check the permissions by selecting the 'Security' tab
click on 'Apply' and 'OK'
Re open Thunderbird.

    no, in the case of this error message the problem is typically caused by a broken QuickTime. the article that Jeff linked travhawk too is the first thing to try:

    I have recently by way of software updater, updated iTunes to the latest 10.1.1 and now iTunes will not open up on my mac at all. I have never had a problem with this program before. Are they any ways to correct this problem such as downloading the update directly from apple, and if that is the case do I have to uninstall iTunes first or will the downloaded file from apple directly overwrite the previouse problem update file to get me back up and running?

    Earlier iTunes (and supporting applications) need to be completely uninstalled before you can install the new version. Here's the complete Apple info on this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
    Mobile device application will most likely fail to uninstall, so you would need to visit its location(s) and manually delete the files then folder(s). The location of the folders is documented in this link from Apple.
    You won't lose your music when you uninstall iTunes. It's located in your music folder and won't be touched.
