Thunderbird will receive but not send messages.

I have been using Thunderbird for a year with no problems until now. It seemed to start right after I downloaded a Thunderbird update. The server and port settings seem right. I do not know what else to check. Should I re-enter my account password?

Error message as follows when trying to send message: "Message could not be sent using SMTP server for an unknown reason. Please verify that your SMTP server setting are correct." I have done this a number of times. Settings seem correct and I keep getting this message. Any ideas would be most welcome!!

Trying to set up mail.... will receive but not send. Already called internet provider. They said ask Apple.

Hi ...
Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2), Lion.
From the Lion Help viewer ...
If you can’t send messages
If the Send button is dimmed or you see an alert that your message can’t be sent using the outgoing mail server, you might not be able to send messages. Here are some things you can try:
Make sure the outgoing mail server is specified correctly, as directed by your email service provider.Verify your outgoing mail server
If you try to send a message and a dialog appears saying you need permission, an administrator has limited the email addresses you can correspond with. Click the Ask Permission button.Request permission to send messages
Choose Window > Connection Doctor, and follow any instructions displayed in the Details column. Check whether there is a problem with your outgoing mail server or a firewall, if applicable, or if there was a login failure. If the Connection Doctor indicates a firewall problem:Verify there is no firewall software blocking email traffic on port 25, 465, or 587.Check whether you’re affected by another firewall. This could be either software installed separately from Mac OS X or built into an Internet sharing router, or software administered by your Internet service provider. Contact the appropriate person to find out whether a firewall exists.
You may be able to send messages from only a certain location. For example, if you send messages from school, you may not be allowed to send messages using the school’s outgoing mail server when you’re at home. Or, the email service provider may allow you to send messages but with stricter settings (such as requiring a name and password). Get the information you need from your provider and then change the outgoing mail server settings in Mail preferences.

• My o2 email will receive, but not send on my ipad

My o2 email will receive, but not send. I've got other email accounts on the ipad & they all work OK. The o2 mail account used to work properly, but I needed to remove the account & since I've put it back on, it won't work on my ipad. Works ok on android mobile phone. I've checked the settings & spoken to o2, but they couldn't solve! It may be since I've joined the cloud? Any advice, gratefully received. Thanks.

Recheck the settings once again. There is something wrong. And it seems to happen to O2 people with some regularity. Google o2 mail settings and you will get a page with the details. Pay close attention to the port setting, you may need to change it on the pad, and that may be the problem.

• Additional email address will receive but not send

My .mac email address works fine, sending and rerceiving in "Mail" I have another email address with virgin.net. which will receive but not send. I get a pop-up window saying "cannot send using smpt mac.com" (this is the server selected for my .mac address account) I have tried selecting the virgin smpt server but that doesn't work either. What should I do?
Thanks for all suggestions

Most, if not all ISPs block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network (or not provided by the ISP) on Port 25. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only (such as the .Mac SMTP server) that is outside of the network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless.
Sounds like BT Broadband allows the use of an authenticated SMTP server that is outside of their network on Port 25 and the virgin.net SMTP server must not be authenticated.
Are you accessing an email account and SMTP server provided by BT Broadband with the Mail.app?
Something to try.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for the virgin.net account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
If this doesn't resolve the problem and you are accessing an email account and SMTP server provided by BT Broadband in Mail, select/use BT Broadband's SMTP server to send mail with your virgin.net account which is invisible to all recipients.
These SMTP server restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.

• Email will receive but not send after installing os7 on iPhone 4S

Email will receive but not send after installing os7 on iPhone 4S. Checked all settings against iPad and second 4s phone and they appear identical. Other devices work fine.

Thanks Spaidr,
That was part of it. I did an end-around by setting up an alternate outgoing (send) server which was the same as the primary, identical settings, name, password. I deselected the primary and used only the secondary. Reboot as you suggested and Voila! Something must have been corrupted in the primary.
Thanks and hope this helps others.

• Mail will receive but not send!!!!!!

Hi, my imail is receiving but not sending. I have 3 other computers in the office with different email address using imail and they are working fine? I deleted the account then added it and still cant send mail. its not a server issue because all other email address for our office email work just not mine.
any help will do.

Try 'synchronize' under mailbox menu. Have had the same problem sporadically for no apparent reason. Have 3 email accounts set up and sometimes just one of them does this- different one every time. I call the ISP and it is not a problem on their end- and I know that is true because I can logon to the web-based version and see the emails that I am not getting in Apple Mail. Synchronize sometimes has fixed this problem for me.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again.

• Mac mail will receive but not send, happened yesterday!

Hi, my mac will receive email but not send anything. I didn't do anything differently and it was working just fine before. Can someone please help me. I am trying to get work emails out and they won't send. Gmail and exchange won't send, it's not just one email provider. Please advise. I have looked up other forums and I don't think it has anything to do with the settings because it worked before.
Thanks for your help.

• Why can I receive but not send messages through Mail?

I recently installed a wireless router (linksys). I can send mail at the local coffee shop, yet here at home I can't. I know it's something very simple, but I'm giving up...and asking for help in fear of tweaking the settings beyond my knowledge. I get a popup that tells me I can't use the listed server for outgoing mail. I have a couple choices...1) lynksys 2)stmp.mac.com:tugboater.
I wish I could get it set up...Its annoying to have to use mt yahoo address.
Heelllppp!

Help! I have read through this string, but not found an answer. I too, can receive emails but not send them. The problem started last week - I've been successfully using my mail account for 2 years and then last week, stuff I send just disappears - no error messages. I didn't change any settings or do any updates. All sent messages show in my "sent" folder, as well. I have tried everything, including restoring my hard drive from a backup copy made before I was having difficulty.
I used suggestions in the online help, including using the "ping" function to see if I was communicating with my outgoing mail server. Trying to ping mail.mac.com I get the error message:
"PING mail.mac.com (17.250.248.152): 56 data bytes
--- mail.mac.com ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
I am using mail and .mac mail through a cable DSL line and Airport wireless connection.
I tried changing my outgoing port to 110 and to 25 without help.
Any thoughts?

• After updating to iOS 5 email accounts will receive but not send

After updating to iOS 5, email accounts will receive but will not send. Have made sure my SMTP is correct and are turned on. Any suggestions?

Actually, I resolved this by going to the list of servers and selected the same server from the 'Other SMTP Server' category (which happened to be the same server as the primary server) and can now email.

You have the wrong outgoing (SMTP) server settings. Contact your email provider for the correct settings.

• TS4268 My phone will receive but not send iMessages?

Lately, I have been able to receive iMessages but not send any, any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks :3

One thing you might want to do is search on google to see if they are reporting any issues with mail client usage.
Also, another option would be to reboot your Mac. Sometimes all you need to do to fix an odd problem with a computer is to reboot.

• Messages app on MacBook will receive but not send

I have an iPhone 5, an iPad 2, & a 13" Retina MacBook Pro. I have sent and recieved iMessages from all of these devices without trouble until recently. For the past few days my Messages app on the MacBook updates with my iPad and iPhone, so that I can see all the messages I have sent and recieved on my other devices, but if I try and respond to a message from my MacBook Messages gives me the error, "Your Message Could Not be Sent: XXX-XXX-XXXX is not registered with iMessage." This error shows up for every single person I try to send an iMessage to with the MacBook.
The problem has to be on my end because I am recieving iMessages just fine on all 3 devices and I'm sending messages just fine on the iPhone and iPad, so my friends numbers ARE registered with iMessage.

Hi,
When we were dealing with the preceding app (iChat) in earlier versions of the OS it would not launch properly if the Address Card that referred to your details (The My Card) was not linked or set up correctly.
Open Contacts app and use the Card Menu to select the My Card and check it is your Details.
As was stated above in the Green Bordered answer sometimes the Sync for the Contacts app.
This refers to the method you are using to keep the Contacts app on iPhones, iPads and Macs the same as far as the details for all Cards goes.
For this you will need to open the Contacts App and look at the Preferences > Accounts settings.
It may also pay to go to System Preferences > iCloud (if you are using this method) and untick the Contacts app for Sync for a few minutes then re-apply the tick.
After that it may be that the app on the Mac is only managing a partial Login to the server.
Try Quitting the app and then Restarting the computer.
If that does not work use the Sign Out button in the iMessages account pane before repeating the Quit the app and restart the computer process.
Basically the first steps are to do the minor resets mentioned above.
