Thunderbird won't launch after upgrading to Lion

The subject line metions Thunderbird, but this is really a Lion problem.  I just bought a new MacBook Pro (with Lion).  I had been using an OLD MacBook Pro Core2Duo with Snow Leopard.  I used Migration Assistant to transfer everything to the new MacBook Pro, then started launching programs to make sure things work OK.  I use Thunderbird for email, and it crashes on launch.  It worked fine on the old MPB with Snow Leopard.  I did system updates (three times) to make sure I have the latest/greatest version of Lion.  I downloaded a fresh version of Thunderbird from the Mozilla web site and installed it.  Still have the same problem.
Here are the first 30 or so lines of the crash report.  I really appreciate any help.  I have a brand new Mac, and if I can't use it for email, then I can't use it.  (And thanks in advance for the inevitable suggestions, but I don't want to switch to Mac Mail.)

In lieu of relaxing on Sunday, I've been working on this.
I tried launching Thunderbird (TB) in TB's "Safe Mode".  This launches TB like it's being used for the first time - and it didn't crash, which got me hopeful.
So I deleted the TB profile folder and the TB preference file from the ~/Library folder.  Then I manually copied them over from my old Mac to my new Mac - figuring that maybe something got damaged by Migration Assistant.  After I installed all of the TB files and folders into the right places in my ~/Library folder, I rebooted the Mac (just to be safe) and tried to launch TB - and it crashed upon launching, with essentially the same crash log as shown above.
So it looks like there is something in my TB Profile that Lion doesn't like (but that Snow Leopard was fine with).
Any suggestions for how to find and fix/remove the offending item?  Is there something I could search for in the crash log that would point me to the offending item?

  • ITunes won't sync (after "upgrading" to Lion because my four year old macBook can't use Mtn. Lion) With a little ranting sprinkled in.

I hope someone out there has the expertise to tell me what I am doing wrong. I expect a learning curve from a new Mac operating system, but I don't expect weeks of problem solving and glitches. Lion...well, they won't let me use that word.
Since I "upgraded" to Lion, when I hit "sync" in iTunes on the computer, I get one of three things:  1. Nothing happens, or:  2. A message appears that there is not sufficient room on the Nano for the changes, which is not true, or:  3. It syncs down to next to nothing on the Nano and I have to hit revert.
Sometimes I'm confronted with a screen that wants me to check or uncheck each and every album (but not songs) that I want synced. I have already kept up to date a more specific and complete list of the same sort elsewhere in iTunes: the "Music" list in my itunes "Library." Today I unchecked some songs and checked some others expecting to easily have the corresponding changes made on my iPod, as I have for years.  This is the list that I have refined over the years based on new music acquired, my changing tastes, and room left on the iPod.  Am I really expected to duplicate this process on another list only to end up with no options for individual songs I do, or do not, want synced? What is the purpose of this exercise?
I finally got it to upgrade to iTunes 10.6.3.  I was repeatedly getting a message in iTunes that there was an upgrade available. I would hit upgrade within that mesage in iTunes.  It would go through the process of checking for new software and then tell me my software was up to date. (I was running iTunes 10.6 (40).) Software update also told me my software was up to date. I had to go to the Apple site to find and download and install iTunes 10.6.3. The change made no difference to the above problem. I'm not used to screw-ups like this from Apple.
I can't think of a single change in Lion that I like. Not one. I hate the new calendar. I hate the new Safari, and I hate the new Mail. I hate the combination of Google search and the address bar.  I hate the way hiting a hot link in Mail opens a new tab in Safari instead of a new window. And the number of hassles and fixes and problems to be solved in the move from Snow Leopard to Lion has been like nothing I have experienced before on a Mac.
An iMac and a laptop are not iOS devices. And iPads and iPhones are not laptops or desktops. To try to merge the operating systems is a major error in my opinion. Thanks for putting up with my rant. I never expected to be so frustrated by a Mac "upgrade."  And I've been using Macs a log time. Any advise would be apreaciated.

  • Aperture 3.1.3 won't open after upgrade to Lion

Using latest Aperture 3.1.3 on Mac Mini, 2.53 Core Duo, 4GB.  Worked fine before upgrade to Lion last week.
Repaired permissions, deleted com.apple.aperture preferences (in now hidden ~/Library), deleted program and reinstalled as new download from App store.
    Error message upon startup says:
    Dyld Error Message:
      Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
      Referenced from: /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/MacOS/Aperture
Reason: no suitable image found.  Did find:
/Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager: no matching architecture in universal wrapper
BTW - "Option - Cmd" during startup won't get to Aperture repair option.
Maybe I am missing something simple.  Anybody have any ideas?  Thank you!

Ok - found my own solution after a more thorough search of forums.  Tried it and this solved the problem:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15111356#15111356
    (Thanks!!!)
In a nutshell,my guess is that my installing Motion 5 was the culptrit, as there seems to be something that installing Final Cut and /or Motion does to affect the Library structure of Aperture.
The suggested deleting and re-downloading of the plugin manager buried deep in /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.frameworks/Versions/B/PluginManager  did the trick.
    Aperture works like it should.

  • Classic won't launch after upgrade to Tiger

I have a user who's machine was just upgraded to 10.4.5, and now Classic won't launch.
I copied the system files from the resource folder in case they were corrupt, but it didn't help.
I tried to launch classic with extensions off, no go.
    Rebuilt the desktop, no help.
when you try to launch Classic, it opens the start window and just hangs. Left it for half an hour, and it never launched.
I looked for the DivX file in /Library/application support, nothing there.
    classic worked fine under 10.3.9.
Any thoughts on what to do next? Is it safe to reinstall OS 9.2 overtop or is a complete wipe and load necessary (hope not, as user has beaucoup third party apps).
    Help!

  • Pogo Games won't load after upgrade to Lion

Upgraded to Lion recently.  Everything seems to be working okay, except that I play a lot of games on Pogo.com, and now none of the games will load.  I made sure everything (Java, etc) was up to date, but none of it fixed the problem.  I tried the games on both Safari and Firefox, and got the same result.  Any game I try to open just says "Now Loading (Name of Game)..." and that's all it does.
I went back to an older mac that is still running Snow Leopard, and the games loaded just fine. So I figured it was an issue with Lion.
BUT... on the Snow Leopard computer, I noticed I had an old version of Firefox installed, so I upgraded that to the newest version, and now Pogo games won't load on that either!  So, the problem isn't actually Lion.  It's the newest versions of the browsers.
I tried contacting EA (pogo) support, but their help page is completely useless.  I thought I'd check and see if anyone here has any ideas.
    thanks,
    Dan

I'm using Fouiny packages for a year (now it's cvs-20060621-1), as he provides ~all of them & they worked without issue ever since. Latest version's getting a bit old

I've gone through the uninstall and reinstall process, but still no dice. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. • Mail Won't Launch After Upgrade to OS X vs.10.5.8

After installing the OS X 10.5.8 upgrade, I get a message "You cannot use this version of the application Mail with this version of Mac OS X" when I try to launch the Mail application. I looked, but there is no newer version of Mail available...my software is fully up to date.

    Hi,
I have done this update, and Mail is working. The update to 10.5.8 did change Mail's version number, so the issue that must be considered is whether anything has caused the 10.5.8 Update to not advance Mail.
Is the Mail app properly in the Applications folder, in its root level, and not ever renamed? In the Applications folder, control-click on the Mail app Icon, and use Get Info -- what version is reported? It should be 3.6 and show having been modified at the same time as your update to 10.5.8? If Mail could be opened, which I understand it cannot for you, the exact version would be Mail 3.6 (936), and previously is was Mail 3.6 (935/935.3) if memory serves me correctly.
Use Spotlight to search to see if there is more than one copy of a Mail app on your Mac.

  • ITunes won't launch after upgrade - says files are missing

I had trouble upgrading to version 6 but disabled my anti virus software (McAfee) and the upgrade seemed to run OK. After restarting my computer iTunes won't run as it says files are missing and I need to install them. It was all working fine before. I have over 4200 tracks and I'm worried I've lost them although they are all still on my iPod. What do I do next? Please help.

Also when I try to reinstall Safari from Apple.com I get an error saying "...kfjcl5g3.dmg cannot be saved. the source file cannot be read".
Is there an known fix for this problem?

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Go to your Applications folder. Which version of Safari is installed - for Leopard 10.5 or 10.5.1 it ought to be Safari 3.0.4. For 10.5.2, it ought to be either 3.1 or 3.1.1.

Welcome To  Discussions Luke N Forhelp!
Unless the Hard Drive has failed, although that error is not exactly good news, it is not necessarily a death knell, and the situation may not be hopeless.
DiskWarrior has a high success rate at rebuilding when Disk Utility reports "Underlying task reported failure" when repairing a volume (Error -9972).
Or TechTool Pro can also be used.
    In the above link it states;
*Back up as much of your important data and files as you can, then try using a third-party disk utility to repair the drive. Be sure that you use one that works with your version of Mac OS X."
DiskWarrior, also linked above, is just such a third-party utility.
But in case it is unsuccessful, and you need to perform an Erase & Install, I suggest that if possible, you back up the system, or at least any data that you cannot afford to lose ASAP.
If you have access to another Mac that is Firewire enabled, you might be able to backup, or retrieve data, using Firewire Target Disk Mode.
