Thunderbolt adaptor to fire wire not working

I just Got the focus rite pro 40. works great with fire wire. I recently purchased the apple thunderbolt adaptor.
Plug up power on device then computer. The software says hardware not connected.
I'm using the plain Firewire 400 to 800, 6pin to 9pin cable with the apple thunder bolt.
My computer is a  Mac mini server mid 2010, 2.66 intel 16 gb currently running 10.8.5
Running Saffire mix control 3.4.
So just trying to figure out why this isn't working at all
Do I need to download drivers for the  thunderbolt adapter ? I can say that My thunderbolt worked fine with the adapter for Vga to run another monitor.
My focusrite works fine with just firewire.  So could it be a bad adapter or is my mac mini not compatible.
Any help with this is much appreciated

The 2010 Mini does not have a Thunderbolt connector. It has a mini displayport for video out.
The Thunderbolt to FW adopter only work when connected to a Thunderbolt port on a computer. It will not convert FR to Thunderbolt on an accessory.

  • Fire Wire NOT Working

    I have a Mac G5 2.5 For years I have had an M Audio interface connected to the Fire Wire port in the back; it worked consistently. I disconnected the M Audio last night in order to connect my video camera into the Fire Wire port (to import videos into iMovie) However, the computer would not detect the camera. Then I tried the Fire Wire port on the front of the computer, and still the computer would not recognize the camera. I gave up on trying to connect the video camera, disconnected it from the Fire Wire port, then plugged back in the M Audio. But now the M Audio will not work either! I tried both Fire Wire ports, AND I even tried another M Audio Fire Wire 410 just to make sure there was nothing wrong with the first one. I know there is power coming from the Fire Wire ports because the light on the M Audio will flicker, but the computer will not recognize it to allow me to use it the device. I also connected a Fire Wire hard drive - same thing.....the light goes on but the computer does not see the hard drive.
    At this point I have to assume that there is something wrong with the Fire Wire ports, as all 4 of my devices would not work. I have worked for years this way with minimal problems. What can I do?

    Hi rolesh79,
    I have read that it is not too difficult to burn out the firewire controller on the logic board. Especially, when the device is turned on when plugged in to the mac.
    You might try a third party firewire pci card as a replacement. A repair of disk permissions may have an effect. Or try a 800 to 400 adapter: http://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Detail.htm?sku=461273&oext=1038A&cisrc=14110944&cisku=461273.

  • I have a 10m HDMI to connect to my projector using a thunderbolt adaptor, but it will not work?

    I have 2 different adaptors, a kanex and one bought from eBay, but I am getting nothing. The HDMI works on it's own. Does anyone know why this is happening??

    Hi Gary,
    The projector has 2 HDMI ports, so only using an adaptor the Mac end. I've tried both and also plugging in when the projector is already on to no avail.......it just reads no signal.

  • Thunderbolt to Gigabit ethernet does not work anymore.

    I had purchased a Thunderbolt to Gigabit ethernet a few months back and has been working fine. Recently in my Network Preference it is not recognized anymore. I removed it hoping it would pickup and nothing. I switched ports and nothing. I tried my adapter on another MacBook Pro and it worked fine. I tried a new TB to Gigabit ethernet adapter and still did not work. Thinking something maybe wrong with my ports I tried a Thunderbolt to DVI adapter and works fine.

    This is a late reply, but I had this same question and found the answer here:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/70931/how-to-force-thunderbolt-ethernet -connection-when-switching-networks-without-res
    To me, it was a network reconfiguration problem, I simply went to System Preferences --> Network --> Assist Me, had it reconfigure my connections, and now my Thunderbolt-to-Gigabit-Ethernet adaptor works fine.

  • Toshiba Ext.HDD 320GB USB wire not working?

    So I have a Toshiba External Hard Drive that connects plug and play via USB 2.0 wire Male A to Mini B. Problem is, is that I have about 5 usb 2.0 wires all ranging from 2feet - 6feet in length and absolutely none of them work. I used to have one that worked it seemed a bit thicker than other USB 2.0 wires but lost it and am using a friends 6 inch us 2.0 wire that works fine but seeing as it's his I need to acquire a new one. I don't want to waste money on a wire that won't work so I was wondering if anyone at all knew what the problem seems to be. I have searched the internet for the solution as well as went to the local tech shop and they had no clue what the heck was going on. The man there said it was probably the length of the wire but the original USB 2.0 wire I had was about 2.5 feet in length and it worked fine. It's not a problem with my ports seeing as my frineds works in all the ports and not a problem with vista obviously seeing as yes, it works. I just need my own USB 2.0 wire and need not to waste money on something that won't work. Anyone with a solution please? Thanks!
    *the hard drive powers up with the wires I have but Vista won't recognise it*
    *the drivers do not need to be installed seperately seeing as it is plug and play and has all drivers on the hard drive itself.*

    Check all usb cables to learn if signs of wire crimping/bulge is observed, those need to be replaced. Length not too much of a problem these days.  Generally, belkin have good cable units. If there is too many plugged into the laptop could cause non-working conditions and recommend a usb hub to be utilized, worth a check out.  You could also deinstall the USB controllers via Device Manager and reboot, let hardware wizard reinstall.
    On the external HDD not recognized, put the disc that came with the device.  When not recognized no driver is on board yet, but you will still get some sort of indicator of an attempt at install.  Try putting usb into the laptop after it has been operational.  Check Computer to see if it is recognized, and take off all other external usb units.

  • Why does my fire fox not work correctly?

    I was notified on April 30, 2010 that I need to up-date my flash player and my fire fox has not correctly since. It either hangs up in the loading process and crashes altogether. It can take as long as 5 hours to partly load a website. It took 47 min. for Mozilla support to load tonight. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox twice and 2 seperate comp tech have tried to locate & fix the problem to no avail. Both tech could get fire fox to run for about an hour correctly unless I tried to go to a new website or a new page on the site I was on

    Hello Dorothy.
    This kind of issues are, unfortunately, more common and the we'd like. Thankfully, 99% of the cases are very easy to solve. However, you do need to diagnose what your exact problem is. Do this:
    #run Firefox in safe-mode to disable all extensions and plugins. If this fixes your issues, be them with RAM or CPU usage, then you know it's a problem with plugins or extensions. Proceed to number 2. If safe-mode doesn't fix the issues, then read bellow, after this list;
    #update all extensions and plugins in your Firefox. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
    #disable all extensions and plugins in your Firefox (not running safe-mode). Being certain that, as in safe-mode, the problems you're having have gone away, enable one plugin at a time. You should be certain that you WANT that plugin to be enabled, so keep your overall number of plugins as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic plugin, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all plugins (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all.
    #enable one extension at a time. Again, be certain that you WANT that extension to be enabled, so keep your overall number of extensions as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic extension, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all your extensions (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all;
    #you're done! You've fixed your problems with problematic add-ons.
    Ok, if disabling all extensions and plugins through safe-mode didn't work to bring Firefox's CPU and RAM usage to good levels, then you have different issue. The most likely scenario is that you have a third party software running on your computer that is messing with Firefox. Do as follows:
    #do a virus/malware check on your computer. If this doesn't fix it, proceed;
    #disable all software running in the background that you don't want to have running in the background (in windows, this is done by pressing WINDOWS+R in your keyboard, typing "msconfig" (without the commas) and pressing enter. Now, under the "Startup" tab, you can uncheck the software you don't want, and reboot your system for changes to take effect. If you're unsure of what software you want running, ask someone with more experience). If this doesn't fix your issues with Firefox, proceed;
    #check your firewall/antivirus/security suite for enabled functions/features that you don't want and/or may be conflicting with Firefox. You'll find that these features are most likely tied to Internet Security features, such as link scanners or URL checkers and the like. If you're not sure they are conflicting with Firefox, simply try to disable them to see whether or not that's true. As long as you don't browse the web with your antivirus completely off and your firewall completely turned off, there should be no problems. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
    #check your operating system security options, mainly advanced options that are not configured by default. While it's very unlikely that this may be the cause of the problem (after all, it's the last item on the list), it's remotely possible. If this doesn't work, proceed to the following point;
    #clean up your OS registry, using appropriate software. If this doesn't do it, I'm out of ideas. Except make sure you've followed my instructions correctly.

  • Thunderbolt 2 external hard drive not working with Macbook Pro (early 2011)

    Hi,
    I'm new to this forum and I hope you guys can help me with this:
    I've recently bought an external hard drive that works on Thunderbolt 2 (LaCie d2 3TB). When I connect the new drive to my Macbook Pro through the thunderbolt port, the drive isn't recognized. However, the drive works fine through a USB connection.
    I thought that Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 are compatible, however this doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe it's because the OS X / driver / firmware version that I'm working on that is not updated? I work on an early 2011 Macbook Pro: OS X Version 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
    Thank you very much for your help!
    Daniel

    Hi danielsh6,
    I recently bought the new Lacie Thunderbolt 2 D2 3TB and I had the same problem as you, i have a macbook pro early 2011, those support thunderbolt but many times there is a bug that doesn't let you connect any thunderbolt drives to your computer. The solution I found was installing this update:
    Thunderbolt Firmware Update v1.0
    Before doing this I would recommend you updating to mountain lion (not yosemite yet as there is still some glitches and more on preview's macbook pro's).
    Hope this helped!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    If you have a PPC mini (an early one with just two USB ports on the back) then do a PMU reset:
    - Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
    - Wait 10 seconds.
    - Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button on the back of the computer.
    - Let go of the power button.
    - Press the power button once more to start up your Mac mini.
    If you have an Intel mini (with 4 USB ports on the back) then do an SMC reset:
    -From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
    -Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
    -Wait at least 15 seconds.
    -Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time.
    -Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
    -Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.

  • How can I test my thunderbolt port? It's not working after the update to 10.10.1

    I have been using my computer with the Thunderbolt Port for a while and after updating to 10.10.1 and after I while of using my computer I tried to use the thunderbolt port with my external monitor.. and it doesn't work at all.. video doesn't come out.. I tried a different screen with the mini adapter from thunderbolt to HDMI and another with thunderbolt to VGA and in both adapters I don't get video from my mac.
    Any idea how can I test my Thunder bolt port?
    This is what I have done:
    1 cable adapter thunder bolt to mini HDMI to an LCD screen with HDMI : No video, but my computer detects that there is something connected
    2 cable adapter thunder bolt to VGA to an LCD screen with VGA : No video, but my computer detects that there is something connected
    3 cable adapter thunder bolt to mini HDMI to an 40' TV with HDMI : No video, but my computer detects that there is something connected
    All the test pass from the Hardware test at the startup (press D at boot time).
    Any ideas? my guarantee it's expired and no coverage. Due the nature of where the port it's installed, if this is a hardware problem seems that I will (may be) have to buy the Logic Board.. no good. No bueno!!
    Thanks!!!

  • Ipod wire not working?

    So starting around December, my ipod would be so difficult to connect. When I'm trying to charge it and I move my ipod, it would unconnect and reconnect even though the wire is still attached to the ipod. I thought it was an ipod wire problem so I bought another one. However, it is still happening. Finally, the wire I was using said it was not certified and it doesn't support my ipod. I'm not really sure what's going on, I don't think it's a wire problem anymore. Is it a problem with my ipod? This ipod is the newest generation by the way. I got the ipod in February 2013.

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    - Try another cable. Non-Apple cables have a al ot problems but even Apple ones fail.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Fire Fox not working lost my passwords and book marks

    Hello, my old version of firefox needed updated for a long time now, I have a Mac Book OXS 10. 5. 7.
    The firefox worked ok however, but I went to update the new version, when I opened up the downloaded file, it asked me if I wanted to replace the other version, I selected yes, and when I did, the new one says it wont allow me to open it, now I have no fire fox anymore, my book marks are gone, and my passwords were remembered by my firefox if you know what I mean. I really need some help, what do I do now???
    Bill

    The version of Mac that you are running doesn't support modern versions of Firefox. Download Firefox 16.0.2 from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/16.0.2/mac/en-US/ and install it. You should have Firefox back up and running.
    You should seriously consider upgrading to at least Mac 10.6, preferably something like 10.7 or higher. 10.5 hasn't received any updates in a very long time, and if I remember correctly, the 10.6 upgrade is only about $40 US. You will then be able to use a modern version of Firefox

  • File adaptor not working.

    Hi ,
        I am trying some scenario using file adaptor but it is not working. I tried with Runtime Workbench but my adaptor entry is not there in Adaptor monitoring.
        Can anybody plz tell me how to check whether adaptor is working or not?
        I am new to XI detailed explanation will be helpful.
    Thanks in advance.
    Atul.

    Hi Atul,
    Just adding on to what Shabrish has suggested..
    I Guess you should first see if the file is being picked... for that do the following.
    While configuring your Sender File Adapter, let the mode be DELETE. This way, we will know if the file is being picked by the File adapter. The file will be deleted and you can be sure that it has been picked up.
    In your runtime workbench home, there will be a tab, Component Monitoring, click on it. Select status as all, and click on display. The components will be displayed on ur screen. In that, under Integration Server, there will be a link for Adapter Engine. Click on it. Now, scroll down, and u will see a link to adapter monitoring, there under FILE ADAPTER see the log of the file adapter
    and also, you can see the flow of your message in the integration engine in SXMB_MONI.
    Do this and let us know what is happening...
    Regards,
    Abhy

  • Fire wire incompatibility between OS 10.10 (IMAC) and OS 10.4.11 (Mac Mini)

    Fire Wire does not work between my Imac running Yosemite, and my Mac Mini running 10.4.11. It does not seem to be a hardware problem.  I was wondering if anybody knows why?  Is there something between the two OSs that makes fire wire a no go?  Is it a Power PC vs Intel issue.  Are there any work arounds? Both computers drop into target mode correctly, but neither will put an Icon up on the other's desktop. Speculation is that I'd have  to run 10.6+ to get fire wire to  work with Yosemite.
    Sure would be nice to know...

    Is it a Power PC vs Intel issue.
    I believe that is the problem. Here are several articles from Apple:

  • Connecting AirPort Express using Fire Wire

    Hi, can't see this posted anywhere else. Have been running my MacBook Pro off my AirPort Express quite happily for some time. However recently purchased a Sonos S5 that needs to connect to my wireless router via ethernet. Only problem is the Airport Exp. only has the one ethernet port. So figured I could use the FireWire connection for the Airport/Modem and then the ethernet for the Airport/Sonos.
    Only problem is I need to configure the FireWire in System Preferences and despite my attempts at guessing configuration I have no idea what I am actually doing. Not sure if it's an easy answer, but if anyone can help with config I would be very grateful.

    Hi, thanks for the response and sorry that I am unclear - not my area of specialty.
    Currently I have my airport express router that connects to my modem via ethernet.
    I purchased a sonos unit that streams music over the internet and plays it through the unit. It uses its own base station/router to connect to my wireless network so the main unit then becomes wireless and I can move it any where in my house.
    As I understand this base unit needs to connect into my router via ethernet. The problem is the Airport Express has one ethernet port and one fire wire port. I was hoping to get around this by using the fire wire to connect to my modem, and then that would leave the ethernet port free for the Sonos base unit.
    In case I have just been confusing again the manual for the Sonos refers to the ethernet connection 'use category 5 ethernet cable to connect to a router, computer or additional network device'
    This might not be possible, just assumed fire wire would work but no idea how to configure. Possibly it will involve me having to buy a hub (or extreme) to get multiple ethernet ports.
    Thanks for your help - I am (obviously) lost here so any advice is great!!
