Thunderbolt device not showing up...

I am having issues with my Thunderbolt device (Matrox MXO2 Mini) which allows me to monitor HD video on an external monitor when using Final Cut Pro on my iMac. When I opened my System Profiler, it says there is no devices connected to the thunderbolt port when there is clearly one connected. Could it be a bad cable? Could the port itself be bad? I did notice the cable felt loose when connected to the port and not snug. I've checked all the cables on the Matrox box and they seem to check out but am not thinking this could be a thunderbolt problem with my iMac. I only have 1 TB port on this iMac and don't have any other TB device to test to see if in fact its a problem with the port.
Everything has been working fine until today when I went to edit a video, I was not getting a picture on my external monitor.
Any thoughts?

The initial problem has now been solved. I hate to even admit this but it was "Operator Error". I didn't have the TB cable seated all the way in to the port on my iMac which was not able to detect my Matrox. Once I fixed that and checked System Profiler, the Matrox Thunderbolt Adapter was listed.
Now I am not out of the woods just yet.
So I open Final Cut Pro 7 and its not seeing my Matrox! I've tried everything from disconnecting all cables on the Matrox again to selecting another HDMI port on the HDTV monitor I use. I even swapped out HDMI cables and still nothing.
When I go into my Matrox Utilities folder, and click Matrox MAX Firmware Updater, Its saying: ERROR MESSAGE, No Matrox video devices were detected in your system. The firmware updater cannot be performed.
My Matrox is clearly connected and hasn't been tampered with and had been working just fine. I am the only person who uses this computer so I am clueless how its working fine one day and then the next time I use FCP, I am having all these issues.
I agree, I will have to give Matrox a call tomorrow and see if they can suggest something else to try!
Thanks for your help!

Had the same issue. Tried everything that was posted for troubleshooting bye apple and on the discussions.
Finally, tried something that solved it and it works flawlessly now. I changed my wireless router.
I was using my ISP's supplied ZyXEL PN660 ADLS2+ with Wireless N. Swtiched to an older Linksys WRT160N and it is working beautifully now.
Take a look at your router, make sure the firmware is up to date, and that UPnP is enabled, and if all is correct, and you have done everything else, try another Wireless router if you can.

  • Firewire device not showing

    Greetings
    using a G5, tiger 10.4.9
I have been using this computer for many months with no problem using firewire devices. I recently set up a seperate user account on the computer for my daughter. Prior to this ( for many months)I had a fireiwre device - LACIE external HD -connected that would mount each time at startup and show up on the desktop. Now, I can't get the icon on the desktop of the LACIE to show when I startup. I connected a camera to the computer using firewire, but it too would not show ( before it would). When I connected the camera using USB, it showed up on the desktop. Looks like firewire devices not showing. I checkd System Profile and it shows the LACIE device as connected and functioning. But it won't show up on the desktop. Any ideas on why I can't ge the Firewire devices to show on the desktop?
Thank you in advance for you help. . . .

Sounds like you have the name wrong. Open Disk Utility and take a look to verify the volume name. Disk Utility will list the drive itself, then indented below that is the volume name. To verify that you are using the correct name, try launching Terminal and do a list command:
    ls -a /Volumes/"Name of Volume"
Hit the return key and see if the contents of the volume are listed. There is a space after "ls" and another after "-a"--if you don't get anything or get an error then you might want to try
    ls -a /Volumes
and try copying the name from the list and pasting into the AppleScript.

  • Thunderbolt port not showing connected device

I'm trying to use my 2d iMac 27" as a second monitor.  I have the two iMac's connected via thunderbolt ports systems do not show any devices connected to either port.
Also, CMD F2 function (Target Display Mode) is not working.
    Has anyone else this problem?
    Thanks

    Thanks dastoelk & Russ,
That definitly sounds like the issue, but the only thing new on the drive since the last time I opened FCPX is some new P2 media that's buried in the "PROJECTS" folder and some NEFs from a school play I recently filmed, in the "Greater Tuna" folder.  But I have other P2 media and NEFs on this drive that have been on it for a while.  Also, forget to mention, runnig FCPX 10.0.9

  • Lion 10.7.2 / iTunes 10.5 - Devices not showing up

Any device attached via USB is not showing up in iTunes.  I have the following ipad2, iphone 3gs and itouch (latest gen)
USB connections are working as ipad2 and itouch devices show up in iPhoto.
I have a Mac Pro Early 2008 version.
    I've tried the following:
    1) switching USB ports on my Mac Pro
    2) rebooting Mac Pro leaving devices powered on
    3) rebooting devices leaving Mac Pro on
    4) turning everything off, and booting Mac Pro first.  waiting 2minutes and then powering on ipad2, iphone, itouch
Nothing seems to work.  Hoping someone else is stuck in the same spot or can advise next steps.
    Thanks,

So far the only solution I have been able to find has been launching the recovery partition and running disk repair.  That will fix the problem until you trigger it again.  Fortunately, or unfortunately, I have pinpointed what triggers it on my computer.
Seems to be a flaw in keychain access.  When Safari's connection times out due to an expired certificate (common in university networks that require a log in every few hours), the security settings freak out and effectively shut down safari's ability to do anything.  The fact that it attacks KeyChain access and iPhoto and more is just a really big system wide glitch.  Here's the run down:

  • Network devices not showing up under "shared" in finder bar

Ok so i have a network that consists of a maxtor nas device, 2 win xp pc's, 1 win7 pc, d-link 524 router, and my macbook pro. I would like to be able to transfer files between my mac and the devices and use the printer attached to my maxtor. My issue is that none of the computers show up under the "shared" section of finder or under network. I use to have this issue with leopard but it resolved itself. Now under snow leopard for a couple months and i have yet to get it work. I can access my mac and other pcs from a pc. Anyone know how to get my network to show up on my mac?

Your problem is very common under Snow. At first my shares did not show up under shared in finder windows. I, then, of course, used "Connect to Server" to connect to the shares--both Mac and PC. I found that the more I kept the shares active the more likely they were show up under shared. Then, I discovered that if I kept the computers from sleeping during the period of needed access they would tend to stay in shared without nearly so much keeping the connections active.
If you do not like the above work around, then there are two other possibilities. You can elect to show mounted items on your desktop. Do that and connect to each share. Then, go > users > unlock > + login options > try dragging the mounted shares to the login item window. If successful, then the shares should be available at login.
Another approach is to mount and connect as indicated above. Then, making an alias to the share should at least make things faster.

  • Shared devices not showing up in finder

Shared devices on my network are not showing up in Finder on my MacBook Air. Problem just began in the last 24 hours, and is limited to just this computer. Have done usual things -- checking, unchecking shared devices in Finder; relaunching Finder; restarting computer. Any ideas?

  • EA4500 Router Device not showing up in device list - Please Help

    Hi all
I have an EA4500 and am using Cisco Connect Cloud software. Its working mostly fine except that I have one device on the network that will not show up in the device list. This is not an issue in itself and normally I would ignore (although it used to show up when I forst got the router) however.......
The device is a WDTVLive media unit and required access to windows shares on a media server. Now the WDTVLive device is server an ip address by the router and is available from everywhere on my network but every couple of days it loses the capacity to search windows shares.
I know what you are thinking and I initially thought the same, this is an issue with the WDTVLive box. However one day I spent a few hours trying to resolve (Am an IT Consultant and know a little about networks) and found that I could not fix the issue. I then rebooted the router and it started working. I have since confirmed that every time it breaks I have to reboot the router.
So I kind of think the two issues are linked.
Sorry for the ramble. Can anyone help please.
    Thanks in advance
    Alan

Further to this issue which I ignored as it did not really cause any issues, I recently clicked a samsung tv device which thinks that is three different devices. It has three lan addresses listed. One of the addresses listed is the original device that will not show up so I suspect that this is why it does not show up.
It seems that I have a conflict but I can find nothing anywhere to allow me to resolve.
I cannot even delete the Samsung TV device as its x button is not editable.
Should I just try removing the cloud connect software. I must admit that I am starting to think that I made a bad decision with this router.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Successfully enrolled devices not showing in profile manager

On a newly installed (from scratch, formatted etc) Mountain Lion server, I'm having an issue where I can successfully enrol a device, an iPhone with 6.1 iOS in this case, but the enrolled device does not show up in the devices?
I see a previous post in these communities with a similar issue, the solution was to add place holders after the device was enrolled, unfortunately this is not a solution for me, as soon as you re-enrol the placeholder dissapears  I have another server running mountain lion at another site and this is working just fine.
Any solutions?  I'm pulling my hair out with this.  I have a niggling feeling that with the other server I had a similar problem when I upgraded to Mountain Lion and had to edit one of the ruby files in the profilemanager to display the devices but I can't remember where or when
    Regards,
    Stephen...

    ok update to this problem:
If I enroll a Mac device, in this case the mini server itself then these are displayed under the device library.
also tried an iPad with iOS6 and this was successful, and displays in the device library.
Currently the iPhone is not displaying although enrolled successfully is an iPhone4 so I'm going to experiment with a few other devices and see whats happening

  • Devices not showing up in CM

Sometimes all my devices show up int he CM, other times not, when they do not show, I have to "search" for them by the exact name.
We have redunsant CM's and I wonder if this could be some sync issue, or if there is something wrong with my user.
Othwer users on the CM do not experience this problem (to my knowledge)
    Best regards
    Ole

    Hi Ole,
Looks like a bug. Has this happened after upgrading a browser or making any changes to the CM or after deleting a WAE device from CM? There is a known issue where after deleting a WAE device CM page doesn't show any devices. Reload of the CM resolves the issue.
CSCtu31886:  No Data shown after deleting WAE from CM
A permanent software fix for this defect is in 5.0.1 and higher. The workaround is to
    reload the CM.

  • Devices not showing up in client software Administration section

None of our devices are showing in the "devices" portion of the administration section in the client app.
Everything is functioning fine and I can administer devices through SysPrefs, but will eventually need to get back to this setup to add "edit in place" volumes, etc. I've tried refreshing, creating a new device to refresh list and many other things. I can't even search for a device by name in the "devices" section. Again, this is the only place where I can't see them.
Any ideas? Need it back bad!
    Ryan

    Hey!
Correct, not seeing any devices, but ONLY in the "devices" portion of the client admin. I see all my devices everywhere else and the entire system is functional, except for the fact that I can't get to them through the client admin. I can access it through the Sys Prefs portion of FCS, but need to get into the client admin for "edit in place", etc...
I do have backups from as far as 6 months ago, however - Much has changed on the server and I'd had to have to revert to one of those. Not sure exactly when this issue started, but I've seen it for at least a month.
