Thunderbolt display firmware update 1.2 won't install correctly

On Friday 11/13/2014, I received a Software Update notification in OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 that there was an update available for "Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update 1.2". I tried installing this several times, but every time it tells me "The Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update could not complete." Now I have 6 failed install attempts showing in Software Update, plus still the still to be installed update itself.
If I click on the "More info" button in the failed installation message, it takes me to this page: About Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update 1.2 - Apple Support
On that page it suggest to check the "About this Mac" info for Thunderbolt Display, where "The Firmware Version should be 26.2 and the Port Micro Firmware Version should be 2.0.7 after the update."
My Thunderbolt Display is currently on Firmware Version 22.2, with Port Micro Firmware Version 0.0.21. Why won't this update install?

I had a similar problem: The "Thunderbolt display firmware update 1.2" kept reappearing in AppStore, even though the uppdate seemed successful.
According to Apple[1] the update was successful when the the Firmware Version is 26.2 and the Port Micro Firmware Version is 2.0.7 (visible in About this Mac -> SystemReport).
Above versions were correct in my case, but the update still kept appering in AppStore... (probably I did download and install the update manually after the first failure, but I don't remember ...)
To get rid of the annoying update in AppStore I used the softwareupdate command[2] on the commandline:
    softwareupdate --ignore TBdisplayFWUpdate1.2

• Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update 1.2

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) and two thunderbolt displays. I recently started getting notified there was an update available, Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update 1.2 and App Store kept prompting me to download and install.
I tried multiple times, and each time it states it failed to update. According to this KB article About Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update 1.2 - Apple Support it states Firmware Version should be 26.2 and the Port Micro Firmware Version should be 2.0.7 after the update.
I checked and my Mac is in fact reporting the updates were applied. See information from the system report below. I am prompted every day, multiple times to download and apply this update again, over and over. I don't understand why.
I contacted Apple Support and the rep I worked with was pretty much useless. In fact, I am fairly sure I know more and *NIX than he does. Anyway, does anyone have a suggestion on howe to remedy this?

Strange. The downloaded dmg file package said that the upgrade was successfully installed, but the App Store still says I need to update. I haven't tried it with my MBP cover open but I'll give that a shot.

• Thunderbolt Display firmware update 1.2 failed

Thunderbolt Display firmware update 1.2 fails to complete.  I have made four attempts to load this software update.  The odd thing is that the software list shows that the update has been installed.  But every time I check for updates, Thunderbolt Display firmware 1.2 is listed as a needed update.

• Thunderbolt firmware update 1.2 won't install

I can't find a way to get Thunderbolt firmware update 1.2 installed. I need this update because my external display won't work without it. Machine is late 2011 13" Macbook Pro running OS X 10.9.5. Other updates install without problems, only this update is keeping coming back. Installation seems to go fine, however it doesn't actually install it and update re-appears to App store.
Stuff I've tried already
Install update on AC & fully charged battery
Download & install update manually from Apple website
Install update with & without thunderbolt connected
...with these combinations, App store update log shows 8 installs for that update (and it's still not actually installed)
Anyone had similar problems? Any ideas how to get it installed?

Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.

• Zen Xtra fails PlaysForSure Firmware update - Now it won't install a firmw

Zen Xtra 40 - Was upgrading from .30 firmware to 2.0.03 to support WMP and VistaFirmware Upgrade to Failed to Complete
Downloaded and ran PlaysForSure Firmware 2.0.03
It identified my Zen Xtra and started the upgrade, Zen Xtra rebooted and just sat there. 2 hours later I disconnected Zen Xtra and its in Recovery Menu. Reboot says Firmware Problem and goes to the recovery menu again.
If I plug it back into my system it says it found a 20mb 'Portable Device' MTP and lets me open the device but nothing is on the 20mb partition.
If I run PlaysForSure Firmware 2.0.03 again it says I must plug in the device, even though its definitely plugged in and recognized as an MTP device.
Seems like the PlaysForSure Firmware 2.0.03 isn't designed to identify the device after a partial upgrade? Tried older .30 Firmware install program, it can't identify the device either. Device shows up in Device Manager as Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra using a Microsoft Driver.
I've installed the latest JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US_2_0_00.exe drivers and it does not help. Device still detects as a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra. If I uninstall Windows Media Player it won't install any drivers and won't accept the PCW Driver either.
Where can I get a firmware updater that will function when my Zen Xtra wants to be an MTP device?I tried another computer with WM9, just PCWDRV 2.0 drivers, and it will not detect and install the drivers when I plug the device in. Says it can't find suiteable drivers for this device.
Tried Cleanup, Reload OS, Reboot.
Boot v.4 and HW v0.0. Any ideas?

Wow after searching hundreds of documents on this forum I got my firmware updated
!!! I took my notebook, which I had recently upgraded from WMP9 to WMP after I could not get it to recognize and upgrade my Zen. I uninstalled WMPI uninstalled WMP RuntimeRebootedI went to Microsoft and get WMP0 specificallyInstalled it and closed itI ran the ZenXtraPS4Audible_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.exeOn the Zen I selected Reload OS, I click to have it reload OS, while it was doing that I plugged it into the notebook. The Firmware Tool Detected the Device again!!Current version 2.0.03Upgrade will be 2.0.03I click Upgrade!?It upgraded this time!!?The bummer is ALL MY MUSIC is wiped off my device. I didn't format it, but I guess the upgrade does it for you. Which means I just lost hundreds of dollars worth of songs since WMP doesn't have a license transfer and all my music was on the ZEN. So even though I have the files on my computer, they won't play because I don't have the license any longer.

• EFI Firmware Update 1.2. won't install

I can't find exactly my problem but some threads are close. I keep getting software updates for EFI Firmware Update 1.2.
I shut down, then startup holding on-button until it flashes, release, buzz buzz, chime, then very briefly the apple logo and status bar, then gone, buzz buzz, chime and restart. After everything loads, there is the update window with install instructions, telling me to repeat if I see them, to no avail (tried several times over several weeks). My HD appears to be correctly partitioned, with this boot ROM: IM51.0090.B03 which would seem to indicate the update has not happened. I have unplugged all my peripherals (printer, zip drive) but not DSL modem.
any ideas?
thanks in advance
craig

I would delete the firmware updater that is in your Utilities folder and check your account settings(System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items) to see if it has been added to your login items. If so then remove. Re-run your software update and see if the Firmware update shows up again. If so then download and try again. According to Apple your BootROM should be IM51.0090.B09 after the update.

• TS3499 MacBook SMC Firmware Update 1.4 won't install

Just received my new Magsafe 60w Power Adaptor from the apple store today, however although it is powering my MacBook, it is not charging it.
I bought my MacBook in early 2008 and it is version 10.5.8, it has an intel core 2 duo processor, and leapord OSX, so I looked for solutions and followed this guide on the apple support site http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3499.
I dowloaded the firmware update http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1312 accordingly but when I try to install it, it says " Alert: This computer does not need this update"
I looked at other solutions, and tried removing the battery and holding down the power button for 5 secs, I've checked that my Mac intel dual core is using the GUID disk partition which it is.
So I am pretty much lost with what to do, has anyone else had this problem and managed to resolve it?
Thanks Anyone

If you have a MacBook with the removable battery you can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody use the same battery.

• Firmware Update 1.5 won't install?

When I try to expand BluetoothUpdate1.5.pkg, It blows back error #17530 (a folder was specified when a file was required). What gives?? Thanks in Advance

Thanks All for my replies (in both forums). Family biz kept me away for a while. Been following the 'Bluetooth Wars' & I'm sure my problems are software related. I even tried a Iogear dongle that my nephew sent me, but to no avail. Since this a Skype issue I believe the quickest (& cheapest) way to go is a Logitech USB desktop mike & call it good. I'll cross the Bluetooth bridge later when I get an iPhone. I'm a bit surprised that a 3rd party developer hasn't jumped into the fray with a Haxie or something to fill the gap!

• Thunderbolt display firmware 1.2 install error not "connected directly"

I have tried with 2 macs today to install the Thunderbolt display firmware update 1.2. My firmware is old (22.2) and I have had display problems since Mavericks (now with Yosemite too), so I would really like to try the new firmware.
With the TB Display directly connected with a single TB cable to a mac mini or alternately directly connected to my MB Pro I get the error:
I have tried to use both software update and a downloaded version of the Firmware update. Both have the same error message issue on both of my computers. Also, software update keeps showing the firmware as a recommended update after the failed installations.
Does anyone know a fix to this?
Thanks

Solution:
As I proofread my post, I realized I did not note the part about the "built-in" cable and only focused on the "connected directly" part of the error.
Using the built-in Thunderbolt cable I was able to successfully install the firmware.
If anyone else makes this dumb mistake, maybe this post will help you not feel too bad!

• Thunderbolt Display Firmware 1.2 / 10.10.1 Update device connected but no display

I looked through a lot of the Thunderbolt Display Firmware 1.2 posts about the display not functioning but never saw one with circumstances quite like mine. In my case, I updated the firmware and the display continued working until I had to reboot for the 10.10.1 system update. After the reboot, my display stopped displaying.
The display wasn't completely non-functional. The symptoms I saw were:
The Displays system preference only showed one display available (my rMBP)
The System Report under About This Mac showed my Thunderbolt Display was connected
The keyboard connected through the Thunderbolt Display worked properly
Just no display at all. First I tried a simple reboot with no success. Then I tried a PRAM reset (3x) again with no success. Finally I disconnected all Thunderbolt connections from my rMBP and did an SMC reset. After booting back up I reconnected the display and boom back in business!
Hope this helps someone.

Solution:
As I proofread my post, I realized I did not note the part about the "built-in" cable and only focused on the "connected directly" part of the error.
Using the built-in Thunderbolt cable I was able to successfully install the firmware.

• MacBook Air SMC Update v1.8 - Won't install

Software update says to install, but it won't install even when I click the checkbox to install it (in Software Update). I install, then run S/W Update again and the darn thing is still in there saying it needs to be installed. I have tried several times to install, even tried downloading it directly from Apple website and installing from there - still shows up in S/W Update as needing to be installed. Maybe it is installed and there's some bug in the S/W Update App that won't "release" it from S/W Update's tracking of versions? What gives? Now there is a firmware update 1.9 - can I install 1.9 if 1.8 won't install?
MacBook Air 13" (late 2010)/OS 10.6.8 (and no, don't tell me to upgrade OS - not gonna do it - finally got a stable system - other than this - and am not gonna wreck it)
Any advice GREATLY appreciated, since I am now experiencing some funkiness with the battery charging/magsafe adapter (sometimes won't charge even though battery is below 60% charge) and am hoping this firmware update might fix that.

No more than a minute. It is a two step process. Run the installer, reboot, watch a progress bar and finished. If you are still in the run the installer stage it should be safe to perform a force quit (hold power button for 10 seconds). If it is in the middle of the reboot you may need to visit an Apple store.

• MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 will not install.

Hi
The latest MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 will not install.
It runs and I restart my Mac but when I search for more updates it appears as a required update again.
Anyone know why this may be?

I had the same problem today. I called Apple support who transferred me to second level support and no resolution. I decided to try a combination of the items I have seen below.
I restarted my computer. I went to apple support download and downloaded the software EFI firmware update 2.0 by typing in search window. I made sure the power cord was pulled into the wall and the laptop had a FULL charge. I installed the update and the computer restarted.
I went to check the software update window after the update and restart completed and SUCCESSFUL.
I do not know why the Genius Bar or the second level support could not resolve my issues but, by me reading information here I hope at least this issue is resolved.
Thanks ALL.......... Happy Mac ing

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.
