Thunderbolt display not working on Macbook Pro - previously the display did work

I have upgraded ML but when the MBP tries to restart with the upgrade the MBP does not restart so I susapect the ML upgrade is not complete ? When you refer to 10.8.5 supplemental is this a separate upgrade ? When I connect the Thunderbolt to the MBP the Thunderbolt charges my MBP & I can play music from iTunes via the Thunderbolt. It is only the display that is not working on the Thunderbolt

  • Does Adobe Photoshop Elements work with MacBook Pro with Retina display?

Does Adobe Photoshop Elements work with MacBook Pro with Retina display, please?
Have searched Adobe website for answer - most recent is 2013 answer, saying no.
Contradicted by a staff ember who only referred to Photoshop, not Elements.
Reason I need it is that iPhoto does not support very high resolution photos - which I have now scanned onto my MacBook and do not want to re-scan!! After 90 minutes at my local Genius bar (lovely folk, very conscientiously searching for an answer...), re-scanning was their final piece of advice.
    Help, please...

    Hello Smis,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand you are having issues with your HP Monitor on your MAC. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Updating a Monitor Driver, where it states under the sub-heading Using HP monitors on a Mac "HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment. However, newer Macs use graphics with VESA modes and can display to most HP LCD monitors. To do this, connect the monitor to the Mac while the Mac is off, and then turn on the MAC. The monitor should operate at 60Hz. The INF and software for the HP monitor are for Microsoft Windows and cannot be run in a standard MAC OS environment."
This being said all I can advise is that you check to see that the monitor is set to operat at 60Hz and contact Apple for assistance if that does not get your monitor displaying correctly.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Will elements 11 work with Macbook Pro with Retina Display?

I am thinking of buying a Macbook Pro with Retina Display.
I am wondering if Photoshop Elements 11 will work OK with this as I have heard there is a problem.  Any suggestions of how to make them compatible would be appreciated.  I really don't need anything more complicated than elements for what I do so don't want to spend out on one of the CS programmes.
    Thanks

Yes, it will work like any other program that isn't optimized for the display (in other words, okay, but not as well as if it had been).

  • 15 inch Macbook pro w/o retina display or 13 inch Macbook pro with retina display?

Want to get a macbook for university. Going to be used primarily for work and casual use. Have a 32inch full hd tv to connect up to for watching movies etc, which is the better choice?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
I recommend a non-Retina MacBook Pro unless you need the Retina display. MacBooks Pro with Retina display are very limited and you can't replace anything if you don't want to void warranty. Also, repairs are more expensive, so purchase AppleCare for your MacBook Pro with Retina display.
Go for the 15-inch MacBook Pro if you need good GPU performance. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display has got an Intel HD Graphics 4000 as the graphic card, and it's not supported in Adobe apps, for example. Also, apps that require GPU performance won't work properly.
If you are not going to do any heavy task, the 13-inch MacBook Pro should work

  • Connecting a January mini DisplayPort MacBook Pro to the display of a May Thunderbolt iMac

I generally had the impression that Thunderbolt displays will have some level of compatibility with Macs shipped before the Thunderbolt transition which began with the February 2011 MacBook Pros, and awaiting on the Mac Pros. This impression of mine was a reason for purchasing a Thunderbolt iMac as opposed to a DisplayPort Cinema Display and a Mac mini combo. If I buy a Thunderbolt cable, is it possible to connect a mini DisplayPort Mac to a Thunderbolt display, such as that of the Thunderbolt iMacs?
Inevitably, during the transition, we are going to have a mixture of displays and Macs of the two interface varieties. No one is going to throw away everything pre-Thunderbolt, just because they bought a single Thunderbolt product. If not compatible, is there an ETA for the DisplayPort-Mac-to-Thunderbolt-Display compatibility bug fix?

The TB display specifically calls for the System Requirements of a "Thunderbolt enabled Mac"...
From the product specs on Apple's page:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC914?mco=MTgwOTQzMzk#overview
BUT!!!!!  You may have been confused by peoples reference to Legacy devices since the new Mac's (w/ TB) CAN be connected to old "Legacy DISPLAYS" (mDP).
So if you have the older (mini Display Port) display, you can still use it by plugging it into the TB port of a newer Mac (w/TB).
But the opposite is Not true...  Older machines (without TB) can Not power and utilize the newer Thunderbolt Displays.

  • Full Screen Mode - not "Full" on MacBook Pro w/30" Display

I'm using a 15" MacBook Pro (early 2011) OS 10.7.2 w/Photoshop 12.1 x64. I'm using a 30" Cinema Display. When I select Full Screen with Menu Bar Mode there is a gap at the bottom of the screen where the desktop is visible. I also notice that the Rotate View Tool is not available when the 30" display is in use with MacBook, although it IS available when I work from the MacBook screen. (Open GL Mode - Normal is selected in PShop Prefs) Any fixes for this?
I also work at another studio which has a MacPro running PS 12.1x64 on a 30" display. The full screen mode & Rotate View both work properly on that system.
Perhaps someone will insist that this is a question for the Apple forum, but I'm guessing that forum will insist that I start here. So here goes. Thanks.

    Hi,

  • External cd/dvd drive not mounting on Macbook Pro with retina display, help?

Hi, I've recently purchased an amazon cd/dvd drive, this one to be exact http://www.amazon.co.uk/External-DVD-LIGHTSCRIBE-Burner-Netbook/dp/B00ABGW9J8, and it's not showing up on my desktop, sidebar or even the disc utility. When I plug it in the drive turns on and I can insert/eject discs, but it isn't mounting on my 10.9 macbook pro, any idea's how this can be fixed?

There have been numerous reports of problems with the USB 3.0 ports on the 2012 models - both Retina and non-Retina. There was a 'fix' that was issued before ML was released that seemed to have solved some problems but not all. ML was supposed to be the real 'fix' and I've not seen too many post about USB 3.0 problems lately. It just seems as if some drives work and some don't. Apple did issue a tech note about using USB 3.0 ports - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5172#12 - but I'm not sure that it will help you or not.
I've not read of any problems with TB storage devices, so you'll likely be OK there. It's just those USB 3.0 devices that seemed to be causing some kinks.

  • My Kingston usb is showing on desktop but not running in macbook pro with retina display...

showing message : kingston is not spourting os x

Its possible to replace it yes.   Its not easy, as you have to dissasemble the MacBook to get to it.
The drive you want is not compatible.  The drive in current 2014 MacBoock Pro´s is not even a Sata type drive.  Its a PCie Blade type drive.

  • Display won't turn on even though my Macbook Pro detects the display

I've had a long running issue with this but now rather than intermittantly, it just won't work at all. I have a 17" Mackbook Pro running Lion and an older style aluminium 23-24" cinema display (the boxy one). The problem also exited under snow leopard. I used to arrive home, pull my MBP out of my bag, place it on a stand, plug the power, USB for my keyboard and mouse and display cable (inculing the USB and firewire) and hit the keyboard and my display turned on and off I went. But now when I try to do that, I get the light on the display flash once and then the display appears to be dead. I'll go into detect displays and it's there and detected but I can't for the life of me figure out why I get no response from my monitor other than one flash from the little power light. Anyone know how I can fix this? Is there a fix or is it a hardware problem? I've zapped the PRAM and done an SMC reset. No dice.

This is a long-standing problem we've all been waiting on a fix from.  I was rooting for the EFI update this morning to fix it, but no love.
I have a MBP 15" early 2011, with a 27" Cinema Display (the last pre-Thunderbolt one)... and periodically, when returning from somewhere and plugging the Mac back in, it acts like it's seeing the monitor, but just doesn't display.
I've found, after a year of this, that the following all helps:
    1) leaving nothing else plugged in while first plugging in the display.  Don't hook up the power or USB, don't have anything plugged into the USB hub on the back of the monitor, or it won't ever detect.
    2) Just keep trying... leave the MBP open, plug in the display port and nothing else... if the big monitor doesn't turn on, but the MBP display flips to "I'm an extra display" mode, unplug, wait for it to go back to "MBP is solo display" mode, then repeat... eventually, for me at least, the big monitor will turn on for real, then I can close the MBP and all is well.
This is sucky, but it does eventually get the 27" to show something.
The other symptoms are all the same... when it's doing this, the computer thinks it's displaying to the 27", USB and power are being sent to the MBP just fine, audio's working... just nothing is actually on the display.
Oh, and for me, it also does it sometimes when the 27" goes to sleep, so I have the syspref set to "never sleep"... it goes black from the screen saver, but never turns off, 'cause then it's iffy if it'll come back on.
I'd LOVE for them to eventually fix this... it's something in either the MBP firmware, the monitor firmware, or just something wrong with one or the other that isn't fixable... but it'd be nice to know.
In the meantime, I rarely use my MBP as anything other than a desktop nowadays, so I leave it plugged in, don't let the monitor sleep, and all is well.

  • I have a 2009 Macbook Pro and the charger stopped working. Will this charger work for it, or do i have to find an old 1 online?

I've looked into the replacement program and i don't qualify.

Wil this work for an older macbook pro?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That charger is perfect for your MacBook Pro, so you can buy it and use it with your computer. If you want, you can buy the 85W one, that provides more power and makes the battery charge faster, at least for the 15 and 17-inch MacBook Pro

  • I have some problems with my battery of macbook pro 13", the mac doesnt work, what can i do to solve this?

My mac does not work, i have problems with the battery, what can i do to solve this, can it run without battery?

Desktop Systems use large capacitors in their power supplies to smooth out fluctuations in the supplied power, to avoid having power fluctuations damage the computer.
NoteBook computers use the battery to do this job. It is not a good idea to run it without a battery in place, because this allows fluctuations in supplied power to go directly into the computer without buffering. This may cause damage.
Apple has lowered prices on many battery replacements to around the US$150 range. The quality of third-party batteries varies widely, but they must generally be cheaper than that (or no one would buy them).

Here's a test you can run:
1 - copy a set of photos from the disk to a folder on the desktop.
2 - download and unzip the Automator workflow Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile. You can download it from Toad's Cellar.
3 - select the files in the folder and drag and drop onto the workflow app.
4 - try to import the resulting files.
